Abstract

We successfully demonstrate a monolithic integrated dual-polarization (DP) IQ modulator based on thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform with a silicon substrate, which consists of IQ modulators, spot-size converters (SSCs) and a polarization rotator combiner (PRC). After coupled with polarization maintaining fibers, the measured insertion loss of the modulator is 12 dB. In addition, we experimentally achieve a single-carrier 1.6 Tb/s net bitrate transmission.

Abstract

Novel hierarchical CuS/ZnS hetero-nanowires were designed and successfully synthesized through a template-free and surfactant-free chemical solution method with a mixed solvent of dimethyl sulfoxide and ethylene glycol. The precursors of CuS and the molar ratio of Cu:Zn, play a crucial role in controlling the morphology of the CuS/ZnS heterostructure. The precursors of CuS serve both as a source material for chemical transformation to CuS and as sacrificial templates for the growth of ZnS nanosheets by adding zinc(ii) ions, finally forming a ZnS/CuS hierarchical nanomaterial with p-n heterojunctions. The as-prepared samples were examined by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements. Photocatalytic activities for methylene blue and rhodamine B were investigated under visible-light irradiation, and appreciably increased photocatalytic activity compared to individual counterparts is achieved by the hierarchical CuS/ZnS hetero-nanowires. The p-n heterojunction, one-dimensional nanostructures and large specific surface area are responsible for the improved photocatalytic activities.

13. “Cofactor Corona” Equipped Gold Nanozyme: From Enhancing Catalytic Activity to Oral Cavity Application

Abstract

A versatile agent with the desired catalytic activity for disinfection and pigment removal, good affinity with bacteria, and excellent biocompatibility is essential for both eradicating the oral bacterial biofilm and tooth whitening in the oral cavity. Herein, we proposed a strategy to construct a “cofactor corona” equipped a gold nanozyme by using antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as promising green reductants and “cofactor” due to the specific physical and chemical properties to reduce HAuCl4into gold corona (Au@AMP) by a simple and eco-friendly redox way. Compared to gold nanoparticles, the as-prepared peptide corona equipped nanozyme via “cofactor” mimicking contributes to enhancing the POD-like catalytic activity by donating electrons from peptides to gold. Meanwhile, it could be used in targeting bacteria by peptide corona and killing S. mutans, disrupting the S. mutansbiofilm efficiently by locally generated ROS from a regulated POD-like catalytic reaction with a low amount of H2O2under NIR irradiation to maintain the optimized temperature. Moreover, it can display excellent capability of tooth whitening in cases of both extrinsic tooth staining and intrinsic tooth staining without enamel damage. The “cofactor corona” equipped gold nanozyme is biocompatible, shedding light on the development of functional and biosafe enzyme mimics and exhibiting potential in diverse biomedical applications.

25. Comprehensively Enhanced Performance of MISIM β-Ga₂O₃ Solar-Blind Photodetector Inserted With an Ultrathin Al₂O₃ Passivation Layer

Abstract

Recently, $\beta $ -Ga2O3 solar-blind photodetectors (PDs) have been of great interest, and the attempts to improve their device performance have been extensively explored. However, surface passivation, a critical technique that has been widely explored in other electronic and optoelectronic devices for the enhancement of performance and ambient stability, has been rarely reported in the field of $\beta $ -Ga2O3 solar-blind PDs. Herein, the $\beta $ -Ga2O3 metal-insulator–semiconductor-insulator–metal (MISIM) solar-blind PDs passivated with ultrathin Al2O3 layers were fabricated and comparatively investigated. The physical mechanisms behind the passivation technique are in-depth discussed as well. It was found that the device passivated with a 3-nm Al2O3 layer not only has lower dark current but also exhibits improved photocurrent as well as responsivity due to the change of dominant carrier-transport mechanism at metal/semiconductor (M/S) interface and the effective physical isolation that eliminates the oxygen chemisorption/desorption process at the active area, resulting in the highest competitive responsivity and specific detectivity of 83.3 A/W and $1.35\times 10^{{15}}$ Jones, respectively, among the fabricated devices. This reveals that the key factor for the comprehensive improvement of $\beta $ -Ga2O3 solar-blind PDs lies in precisely controlling the deposition thickness of Al2O3 passivation layer. This work not only provides an alternative pathway for comprehensively enhancing the performance of $\beta $ -Ga2O3 solar-blind PD, but also suggests an effective technique for reducing its energy consumption and noise level without degrading the other performance such as sensitivity and response speed.

37. The Association between Standardized Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin Concentration and Risk of Anemia: A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

Abstract

The relationship between standardized serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentration and incident anemia in the United States (U.S.) is unclear. The purpose of our study was to examine the association between serum 25(OH)D and anemia risk. We performed a cross-sectional analysis of the U.S. population participating in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2001 and 2018. A generalized linear model and restricted cubic spline (RCS) plot curve were constructed to assess the relationship between serum 25(OH)D concentration and anemia incidence. Additionally, the association between serum 25(OH)D concentration and red blood cell (RBC) count and hemoglobin (HB) levels was investigated using generalized additive models with smooth functions. Subgroup analysis also was performed. A total of 29933 individuals were included in our research. After adjusting for known confounding variables, compared with the lowest quartile, the odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for association of serum 25(OH)D with anemia across the second, third, and fourth quartiles were 0.735 (0.651, 0.829), 0.527 (0.461, 0.602), and 0.696 (0.611, 0.792), respectively. Serum 25(OH)D concentration was associated with anemia risk in a U-shaped pattern, as shown by an RCS plot (P for nonlinearity <0.001). In addition, RBC count and Hb levels initially increased and then decreased as serum 25(OH)D levels increased. Serum 25(OH)D concentration and risk of anemia are associated with a U-shaped curve in the U.S. general population. Serum 25(OH)D concentration in the range 59.7-70.3 nmol/l was associated with anemia incidence <1. However, data on the outcomes of treatment for Candida tropicalis fungemia in patients with neutropenia remain limited.Methods: In the present study, 90 neutropenic adult patients with proven Candida tropicalis fungemia, who received initial antifungal therapy, were retrospectively analyzed.Results: These results revealed that the overall 8-day and 30-day mortality among patients in the entire data set were 22.2% and 33.3%, respectively. However, there was no significant difference between the survival and death group, in terms of baseline characteristics. The univariate analysis of risk factors identified the treatment with azole as a predictor of mortality, while treatments that containing amphotericin B were associated with reduced mortality. In addition, the survival rate on day 30 was observed in 60.7% (17/28) of patients who were initially treated with echinocandins, while this was observed in 86.4% (19/22, P= 0.039) and 100% (13/13, P= 0.024) of patients treated with amphotericin B plus echinocandins and amphotericin B, respectively.Conclusion: These data indicate for the first time that the initial therapy with amphotericin B-based agents was associated with a better survival rate and could be assessed as the optimal strategy for the treatment of Candida tropicalis fungemia in patients with neutropenia.Keywords: Candida tropicalis, candidemia, hematological malignancy, neutropenia, amphotericin B, echinocandins
