Objectives Methods Results Conclusions Patients in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) who are high in interpersonal sensitivity may have difficulty fully engaging in treatment because therapy sessions require intimate interpersonal interactions that are especially uncomfortable for these individuals. The current study tests the hypotheses that patients who are high in interpersonal sensitivity benefit less from CBT for symptoms of depression and anxiety, show a slower rate of change in those symptoms, and are more likely to drop out of treatment.Participants were 832 outpatients who received naturalistic CBT. We assessed interpersonal sensitivity before treatment began and depression and anxiety symptoms at every therapy session. We assessed early, premature, and uncollaborative termination after treatment ended. We constructed multilevel linear regression models and logistic regression models to assess the effects of baseline interpersonal sensitivity on the treatment outcome, the slope of change in depression and anxiety symptoms, and each type of dropout.Higher baseline interpersonal sensitivity was associated with a slower rate of change and less overall change in anxiety but not depressive symptoms. Baseline interpersonal sensitivity was not a predictor of dropout.Interpersonal sensitivity at baseline predicts less change and a slower rate of change in anxiety symptoms. Early detection of elevated interpersonal sensitivity can help therapists take action to address these barriers to successful treatment and help scientists build decision support tools that accurately predict the trajectory of change in anxiety symptoms for these patients. Cancer metastasis, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, remains a complex challenge in medical science. Stephen Paget's "seed and soil theory" introduced the concept of organotropism, suggesting that metastatic success depends on specific organ microenvironments. Understanding organotropism not only offers potential for curbing metastasis but also novel treatment strategies. Microphysiological systems (MPS), especially organ-on-a-chip models, have emerged as transformative tools in this quest. These systems, blending microfluidics, biology, and engineering, grant precise control over cell interactions within organ-specific microenvironments. MPS enable real-time monitoring, morphological analysis, and protein quantification, enhancing our comprehension of cancer dynamics, including tumor migration, vascularization, and pre-metastatic niches. In this review, we explore innovative applications of MPS in investigating cancer metastasis, particularly focusing on organotropism. Background: Regularizing bedtime and out-of-bed times is a core component of behavioral treatments for sleep disturbances common among patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although improvements in subjective sleep complaints often accompany improvements in PTSD symptoms, the underlying mechanism for this relationship remains unclear. Given that night-to-night sleep variability is a predictor of physical and mental well-being, the present study sought to evaluate the effects of bedtime and out-of-bed time variability on daytime affect and explore the optimal window lengths of over which variability is calculated. Methods: For about 30 days, male U.S. military veterans with PTSD (N = 64) in a residential treatment program provided ecological momentary assessment data on their affect and slept on beds equipped with mattress actigraphy. We computed bedtime and out-of-bed time variability indices with varying windows of days. We then constructed multilevel models to account for the nested structure of our data and evaluate the impact of bedtime and out-of-bed time variability on daytime affect. Results: More regular bedtime across 6–9 days was associated with greater subsequent positive affect. No similar effects were observed between out-of-bed time variability and affect. Conclusions: Multiple facets of sleep have been shown to differently predict daily affect, and bedtime regularity might represent one of such indices associated with positive, but not negative, affect. A better understanding of such differential effects of facets of sleep on affect will help further elucidate the complex and intertwined relationship between sleep and psychopathology. Although single items can save time and burden in psychology research, concerns about their reliability have made the use of multiple-item measures the default standard practice. Although single items cannot demonstrate internal reliability, their criterion validity can be compared with multiple-item measures. Using ecological momentary assessment data, we evaluated repeated measures correlations and constructed multilevel cross-lagged models to assess concurrent and predictive validity of single- and multiple-item measures. Correlations between the single- and multiple-item measures ranged from.24 to.61. In 27 of 29 unique single-item predictor models, single items demonstrated significant predictive validity, and in one of eight sets of comparisons, a single-item predictor exhibited a larger effect size than its multiple-item counterpart. Although multiple-item measures generally performed better than single items, the added benefit of multiple items was modest in most cases. Background: The unified protocol (UP) is a promising transdisgnostic treatment for emotional disorders; limited data exists with trauma‐exposed populations. This study compared effectiveness of the UP, presented centered therapy (PCT), and treatment as usual (TAU) in trauma‐exposed veterans presenting to routine care. Method: Trauma‐exposed veterans with one or more emotional disorder diagnoses participated in a pilot hybrid‐1 effectiveness/preimplementation study. Thirty‐seven male and female veterans were randomized to one of three conditions. Results: Multilevel growth curve modeling demonstrated improvement over time across conditions with large effect sizes (range: −2.15 to −3.32), with the UP demonstrating the greatest change. The between group effect sizes for reductions in number of comorbid diagnoses were medium to small and statistically significant (TAU and UP, d = 0.49, p =.056; TAU and PCT d = 0.18, p =.166, UP and PCT d = 0.31, p =.229). Only the UP led to a decrease in the number of comorbid diagnoses (d = −0.71). Psychosocial functioning varied by group, with slight increases in impairment in PCT and TAU, and medium effect size reduction in the UP. Only the UP exhibited significant decreases in self‐reported anxiety and depression. Between group differences for UP and PCT were medium to large and statistically significant for depression across two measures (d = −0.72 to d = −1.40). Conclusions: This represents the first trial examining effectiveness of the UP, PCT, and TAU in trauma‐exposed veterans. Neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders have become increasingly prevalent; however, the development of new pharmaceuticals to treat these diseases has lagged. Animal models have been extensively utilized to identify underlying mechanisms and to validate drug efficacies, but they possess inherent limitations including genetic heterogeneity with humans. To overcome these limitations, human cell-based in vitro brain models including brain-on-a-chip and brain organoids have been developed. Each technique has distinct advantages and disadvantages in terms of the mimicry of structure and microenvironment, but each technique could not fully mimic the structure and functional aspects of the brain tissue. Recently, a brain organoid-on-a-chip (BOoC) platform has emerged, which merges brain-on-a-chip and brain organoids. BOoC can potentially reflect the detailed structure of the brain tissue, vascular structure, and circulation of fluid. Hence, we summarize recent advances in BOoC as a human brain avatar and discuss future perspectives. Parametric arrays have been widely investigated due to their high directivity in the low-frequency region when measuring the acoustic characteristics of materials, such as sound transmission and reflection properties, in the limited space of acoustic water tanks. Because a parametric array utilizes nonlinear interaction across the frequency components, nonlinear phenomena arise in both the acoustic medium and the hydrophone system. The unwanted nonlinear sound generated in the hydrophone and instrumentation is termed pseudo-sound. This study devised an experiment to measure the pseudo-sound without a truncator to assess the effect of the pseudo-sound in the near field. In order to separately measure the pseudo-sound, the hydrophone was placed close to the projector so that the pseudo-sound was dominantly generated. The method is based on the fact that, if we can suppress a parametric signal by minimizing the propagation path length in the medium, the resulting measured signal can be attributed to the pseudo-sound. The resultant signal levels were matched to the levels at corresponding distances based on the primary levels of a (separately conducted) distance-varying experiment. Single-cell level analysis of various cellular behaviors has been aided by recent developments in microfluidic technology. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based microfluidic devices have been widely used to elucidate cell differentiation and migration under spatiotemporal stimulation. However, microfluidic devices fabricated with PDMS have inherent limitations due to material issues and non-scalable fabrication process. In this study, we designed and fabricated an injection molded microfluidic device that enables real-time chemical profile control. This device is made of polystyrene (PS), engineered with channel dimensions optimized for injection molding to achieve functionality and compatibility with single cell observation. We demonstrated the spatiotemporal dynamics in the device with computational simulation and experiments. In temporal dynamics, we observed extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation of PC12 cells by stimulating the cells with growth factors (GFs). Also, we confirmed yes-associated protein (YAP) phase separation of HEK293 cells under stimulation using sorbitol. In spatial dynamics, we observed the migration of NIH 3T3 cells (transfected with Lifeact-GFP) under different spatiotemporal stimulations of PDGF. Using the injection molded plastic devices, we obtained comprehensive data more easily than before while using less time compared to previous PDMS models. Background: Physical health concerns (e.g. chronic pain, fatigue) are common among clients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Prior research has indicated that clients report improved physical functioning and fewer physical health symptoms after receiving Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD. However, less is known about the impact of physical functioning on the clients' PTSD symptom improvement in CPT. Objective: The current study examined the patterns of change of and between physical functioning and PTSD symptoms over the course of CPT among a diverse military, veteran, and community sample. Method: We collected clients' (N = 188) physical functioning and PTSD symptom severity prior to and during CPT using the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey and the PTSD Checklist. We used multilevel modelling to 1) evaluate the impact of baseline physical functioning on the PTSD symptom trajectory, 2) examine the trajectory of physical functioning, and 3) assess the dynamics between physical functioning and PTSD symptoms over the course of CPT. Results: Our multilevel analyses indicated that 1) physical functioning significantly improved for those with low levels of functioning prior to treatment, 2) poorer baseline physical functioning predicted slower improvements in PTSD symptoms, and 3) poorer physical functioning in one session predicted less PTSD symptom improvement by the next session. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that while physical functioning can interfere with PTSD symptom improvement, physical functioning can also improve over the course of CPT. In light of the interconnected nature of physical health and PTSD symptoms, clinicians may need to attend to lower levels of physical functioning when providing CPT or other trauma-focused therapies. As Function Block Diagram (FBD) programs are used to implement safety-critical systems such as nuclear reactor protection systems, it is crucial to generate effective test cases. FBD programs are running on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that execute the programs repeatedly within a particular scan time. Among the elements of FBD programs, function blocks and feedback variables save the inputs or outputs of the previous scan cycle into internal memories. The data stored in the internal memory are used to operate the function blocks of the next scan cycle. Researchers have recently developed an automated test generation technique aiming to satisfy several structural test coverage criteria for FBD programs. Among them, Jee et al.'s approach has an advantage of generating tests from FBD programs without requiring any intermediate models. However, test sequence generation for FBD programs with internal memory states was not fully automated in Jee et al.'s approach. This paper extends Jee et al.'s work by generating test sequences from FBD programs with internal memory states in a fully automated manner. The key technique involves explicitly unwinding FBD programs and solving the test requirements using an SMT solver. We conduct experiments on increasing the coverage of test requirements by unwinding cycles and evaluating the effectiveness of the test set using mutation analysis with several subject programs, including a real-world reactor protection system. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to generate effective test sequences for FBD programs. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach, we compared the test sequence generation time required for our approach with those for other approaches. The comparison results show that even excluding the generation time of test models of other approaches, the proposed approach increased the time-efficiency by more than 11 times. Recent research on cellular responses is shifting from static observations recorded under static stimuli to real-time monitoring in a dynamic environment. Since cells sense and interact with their surrounding microenvironment, an experimental platform where dynamically changing cellular microenvironments should be recreated in vitro . There has been a lack of microfluidic devices to support spatial and temporal stimulations in a simple and robust manner. Here, we describe a microfluidic device that generates dynamic chemical gradients and pulses in both space and time using a single device. This microfluidic device provides at least 12 h of continuous stimulations that can be used to observe responses from mammalian cells. Combination of the microfluidic de­vice with live-cell imaging facilitates real-time observation of dynamic cellular response at single cell level. Using stable HEK cells with biosensors, ERK (Extracellular signal-Regulated Kinase) activities were observed un­der the pulsatile and ramping stimulations of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor). We quantified ERK activation even at extremely low EGF concentration (0.0625 µg/ml), which can not be observed using conventional techniques such as western blot. This article uses an eclectic approach of network and discourse analyses to examine symbiotic relations between the formation of professional networks and the constitution of normative discourses in international affairs. Based on more than 2000 English and Korean mixed materials about the five most-mentioned North Korean defector-activists in the media in 1998–2015, and assisted by a computer-based content analysis tool, the author demonstrates how each of those five defector-activists has employed their endogenous identities to join the system of international human rights activism and offered legitimate narratives for the campaigns against North Korea, while forming transnational networks in South Korea, the USA and the UK. She argues that individuals’ endogenous identities and agency are critical for shaping normative discourses in international human rights activism against North Korea in the first instance, which then grow exponentially through transnational networks formed by individuals. Over the past two decades, there have been notable changes in North Korean migration: from forced migration to trafficking in women, from heroic underground railways to people smuggling by Christian missionaries. The migration has taken mixed forms of asylum seeking, human trafficking, undocumented labour migration and people smuggling. The paper follows the footsteps of North Korean migrants from China through Southeast Asia to South Korea, and from there to the United Kingdom, to see the dynamic correlation between human (in)security and irregular migration. It analyses how individual migrant's agency interacts with other key actors in the migration system and eventually brings about emerging patterns of four distinctive forms of irregular migration in a macro level. Abstract: Cathode active materials with a composition of LiNi0.7Co0.3O2 were synthesized by a solid-state reaction method at 850°C using Li2CO3, NiO or NiCO3, and Co3O4 or CoCO3 as the sources of Li, Ni, and Co, respectively. Electrochemical properties, structure, and microstructure of the synthesized LiNi0.7Co0.3O2 samples were analyzed. The curves of voltage vs. x in Li x Ni0.7Co0.3O2 for the first charge–discharge and the intercalated and deintercalated Li quantity Δx were studied. The LiNi0.7Co0.3O2 sample synthesized from Li2CO3, NiO, and Co3O4 had the largest first discharge capacity (127mAh/g), with a discharge capacity deterioration rate of 2.9mAh/g/cycle. The LiNi0.7Co0.3O2 sample synthesized from Li2CO3, NiCO3, and Co3O4 had the smallest capacity deterioration rate of 1.3mAh/g/cycle. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In this paper, I demonstrate the identity transformation of North Korean women in interaction with state and non-state actors and domestic and regional structures, which I formulate for the purposes of this paper. From a state-centric social constructivist perspective in politics and international relations, I examine how the identities and interests of North Korean women are constituted and reconstituted in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the People's Republic of China and five South-East Asian countries along their migration routes before they reach the Republic of Korea - the so-called 'Seoul Train in the Underground Railway'. Back in their country of origin, North Korean women are socially constructed as Confucian communist mothers. In China, the most frequently depicted images of North Korean women are trafficked wives. By paying for smugglers to cross borders to neighbouring South-East Asian countries, North Korean women finally become the agents of their own destiny, refugees in waiting to be transferred to South Korea. The MR (Mobile Router) by existing top-down or bottom-up methods may not be the optimal MR if the numbers of mobile nodes and routers are substantially increased, and the scale of the network is increased drastically. Since an inappropriate MR decision causes handover or binding renewal to mobile nodes, determining of the optimal MR is important for efficiency. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that decides on the optimal MR using MR QoS information, and we describe how to understand the various structured MLP (Multi-Layered Perceptron) based on the algorithm. This article focuses on the Marxist characteristics of North Korea in its interpretation of human rights. The author's main argument is that many Marxist features pre-existed in Korea. Complying with Marxist orthodoxy, North Korea is fundamentally hostile to the notion of human rights in capitalist society, which existed in the pre-modern Donghak (Eastern Learning) ideology. Rights are strictly contingent upon one's class status in North Korea. However, the peasants' rebellion in pre-modern Korea was based on class consciousness against the ruling class. The supremacy of collective interests sees individual claims for human rights as selfish egoism, which was prevalent in Confucian ethics. The prioritization of subsistence rights and material welfare over civil and political rights was also the foremost important duty of the benevolent Confucian king. Finally, unlike Marx's reluctant use of the language of 'duties', rights are the offspring of citizens' duties in North Korean human rights discourse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For the past decade, the author has examined North Korean primary public documents and concludes that there have been changes of identities and ideas in the public discourse of human rights in the DPRK: from strong post-colonialism to Marxism-Leninism, from there to the creation of Juche as the state ideology and finally 'our style' socialism. This paper explains the background to Kim Jong Il's 'our style' human rights in North Korea: his broader framework, 'our style' socialism, with its two supporting ideational mechanisms, named 'virtuous politics' and 'military-first politics'. It analyses how some of these characteristics have disappeared while others have been reinforced over time. Marxism has significantly withered away since the end of the Cold War, and communism was finally deleted from the latest 2009 amended Socialist Constitution, whereas the concept of sovereignty has been strengthened and the language of duties has been actively employed by the authority almost as a relapse to the feudal Confucian tradition. The paper also includes some first-hand accounts from North Korean defectors interviewed in South Korea in October–December 2008. As a sound transmitting device that relies on the nonlinearity of a medium, a parametric array (PA) can generate high-directivity low-frequency signals using a small aperture transducer and high-frequency signals. Despite their relatively low source level, the PA is frequently used to measure the acoustic properties of materials in low-frequency regions owing to their high directivity in confined acoustic water tanks. Therefore, methods for improving the source level of secondary signals are of interest. Currently, there are two driving methods for PA: the dual-frequency PA and the broadband PA with amplitude modulation. In this study, we share the results of an elaborate and comparative experimental investigation of these two driving methods. Comparisons are made and discussed in terms of the intensity of the generated secondary signal and its characteristics in the frequency domain. Based on these factors, we confirmed that the broadband PA was more suitable as the sound source of the low-frequency characteristic measurement system of acoustic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, the number of electric-power facilities, including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and flexible AC current transmission system (FACTS), has rapidly increased, owing to restrictions regarding the expansion of existing AC networks. Traditionally, a final site acceptance test (SAT) is conducted following controller performance verification in a factory acceptance test (FAT), based on an equivalent small network or voltage sources. Furthermore, several standards and guidelines related to the FAT and SAT of HVDC and FACTS have been published. Meanwhile, as the number of power electronic devices and the complexity of power systems increase, controller performance tests reflecting the wide area dynamic characteristics and control operation of adjacent devices should be required. However, a wide-area dynamic performance test (DPT) requires a large-scale real-time simulator and high-level operational technology. Owing to these difficulties, the definition, standard, procedure, and test protocol of hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS)-DPT, based on a large-scale power system, have not yet been established systematically, and only a few applications have been reported. This study aims to establish and propose procedures, a test protocol, and a methodology of HILS-DPT and large-scale power system modeling for testing. To this end, a case study was conducted to demonstrate the necessity of the DPT procedures and methodologies for the static VAR compensator controller installed at the Shin-Jecheon substation, an ongoing project undertaken the by Korea Electric Power Corporation, as of 2019. This paper presents the hardware-in-the-loop simulation for dynamic performance test (HILS-DPT) of power electronic equipment replicas using a real-time hybrid simulator (RTHS). The authors developed the procedure of HILS-DPT, and as an actual case example, the results of HILS-DPT of Static VAR Compensator (SVC) replica using RTHS is presented. RTHS is a co-simulation tool that synthesizes real-time simulator (RTS) with transient stability program to perform real-time dynamic simulation of a large power system. As power electronics applications have been increasing, the electric utilities have performed HILS-DPT of the power electronics equipment to validate the performance and investigate interactions. Because inspection tests are limited in their ability to validate its impact on the power system during various contingencies, all power electronics equipment newly installed in the Korean power system should take HILS-DPT using large-scale RTS with replicas since 2018. Although large-scaled RTS offers an accuracy improvement, it requires lots of hardware resources, time, and effort to model and simulate the equipment and power systems. Therefore, the authors performed SVC HILS-DPT using RTHS, and the result of the first practical application of RTHS present feasibility comparing the result of HILS-DPT using large-scale RTS. The purpose of this paper is to introduce, examine, and evaluate the industrial experiences and effectiveness of a Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) replica controller installed in Korea in 2019 through a review of its configuration, test platform, and practical application, and further to propose operational guidelines for replica controllers. Four representative practical cases were conducted: a Dynamic Performance Test (DPT) under a sufficiently large-scale power system prior to the Site Acceptance Test (SAT), pre-verification for on-site controller modification during operation stage, parameter tuning to mitigate the control interaction, and time domain simulation for Sub-Synchronous Torsional Interaction (SSTI). None of these four cases can be performed in a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) or on-site. Therefore, TCSC control performance was accurately verified under the entire Korean power system based on a large-scale real-time simulator, which demonstrated its effectiveness as a powerful tool for operations including multiple power electronics devices. Our review herein of these four practical cases is expected to show the usefulness of replica controllers, to demonstrate their strength to deal with practical field events, and to contribute to the further expansion of the application area from a perspective of electric utility. Apoptosis inhibitor (IAP) proteins are overexpressed in many cancers and implicated in tumor growth, so the development of antagonist that disrupts with the binding of IAP to their partner protein is a promising therapeutic strategy. In an effort to increase cellular activity and improve favorable drug‐like properties, we newly designed and synthesized monovalent analogues based on imidazopyrazinone structure of 9. Optimization of cellular potency led to the identification of 17, which showed increase of submicromolar activity (GI50 = 234 nM) and caspase‐3 activation (6.3‐fold) in MDA‐MB‐231 breast cancer cells. Extracellular response kinase (ERK) is one of the key regulator of cell fate, such as proliferation, differentiation and cell migration. Here, we propose a novel experimental pipeline to learn ERK kinetics by temporal growth factor (GF) stimulation. High signal-to-noise ratio of genetically encoded Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) biosensor enables to get a large number of single-cell ERK activity at each time point, while computer-controlled microfluidics fine-tune the temporal stimulation. Using this platform, we observed that static Epidermal growth factor (EGF) stimulation led to transient ERK activation with a significant cell-to-cell variation, while dynamic stimulation of 3′ EGF pulse led to faster adaptation kinetics with no discrepancy. Multiple EGF pulses retriggered ERK activity with respect to frequency of stimulation. We also observed oscillation of ERK activity of each cell at basal state. Introducing of Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) inhibitor, U0126, was not only dropping the average of basal activity for 7.5%, but also diminishing oscillatory behavior. It is unclear whether the visualization methods for artificial-intelligence-based computer-aided detection (AI-CAD) of chest radiographs influence the accuracy of readers' interpretation. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of radiologists' interpretations of chest radiographs using different visualization methods for the same AI-CAD. Initial chest radiographs of patients with acute respiratory symptoms were retrospectively collected. A commercialized AI-CAD using three different methods of visualizing was applied: (a) closed-line method, (b) heat map method, and (c) combined method. A reader test was conducted with five trainee radiologists over three interpretation sessions. In each session, the chest radiographs were interpreted using AI-CAD with one of the three visualization methods in random order. Examination-level sensitivity and accuracy, and lesion-level detection rates for clinically significant abnormalities were evaluated for the three visualization methods. The sensitivity (p = 0.007) and accuracy (p = 0.037) of the combined method are significantly higher than that of the closed-line method. Detection rates using the heat map method (p = 0.043) and the combined method (p = 0.004) are significantly higher than those using the closed-line method. The methods for visualizing AI-CAD results for chest radiographs influenced the performance of radiologists' interpretations. Combining the closed-line and heat map methods for visualizing AI-CAD results led to the highest sensitivity and accuracy of radiologists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In light of the well-established relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicidal ideation (SI), there has been a push for treatments that simultaneously improve symptoms of PTSD and decrease SI. Using data from a randomized controlled hybrid implementation-effectiveness trial, the current study investigated the effectiveness of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT; Resick, Monson, & Chard, 2016) on PTSD and SI. The patient sample (N = 188) was diverse in military and veteran status, gender, and comorbidity, and 73% of the sample endorsed SI at one or more points during CPT. Participants demonstrated significant improvement in SI over the course of CPT. Multilevel growth curve modeling revealed a significant association between PTSD symptom change and change in SI. Results from cross-lagged multilevel regressions indicated that PTSD symptoms predicted SI in the next session, yet SI in a given session did not predict PTSD symptoms in the next session. Potentially relevant clinical factors (i.e., military status, gender, depression diagnosis, baseline SI, study consultation condition) were not associated with the relationship between PTSD symptoms and SI. These results add to the burgeoning literature suggesting that evidence-based treatments for PTSD, like CPT, reduce suicidality in a range of individuals with PTSD, and that this reduction is predicted by improvements in PTSD symptoms. Recent advanced information and communication technologies can provide more accurate and comprehensive information. In particular, mobile phone data provide a new data source for urban structures and mobility. It is important for urban and transportation planners to be able to use data containing valuable location information that is not easily obtainable from traditional datasets, such as expensive household surveys, extensive traffic counts, or aggregated socioeconomic statistics. This study explored the potential of using mobile phone data to characterize and compare urban activity and mobility patterns from daily and hourly mobile phone records across 10 cities in Korea. We compared the internal and external mobility of phone users, and calculated urban attractiveness and home-based trip length frequency distribution for comparisons of different sized cities. The spatiotemporal evolution of urban activity within a day was examined, and the spatiotemporal extension for each city was calculated, showing the degree of spatial dispersion of residences and other activity locations. We also identified urban activity subcenters and hotspots based on density and time persistence criteria, as well as their compactness. Policy makers can expect to see more applications using mobile phone data, and this study helps demonstrate the potential of such data. Abstract: MgH2, rather than Mg, was used as a starting material in this work. A sample with a composition of MgH2–10Ni–4Ti was prepared by reactive mechanical grinding. Activation of the sample was completed after the first hydriding cycle. At n = 1, the sample desorbed 2.53 wt% H for 10 min, 3.99 wt% H for 20 min, 4.58 wt% H for 30 min, and 4.68 wt% H for 60 min at 593 K under 1.0 bar H2. At n = 2, the sample absorbed 3.59 wt% H for 5 min, 4.55 wt% H for 25 min, and 4.60 wt% H for 45 min at 593 K under 12 bar H2. The inverse dependence of the hydriding rate on the temperature in the initial stage and the normal dependence of the hydriding rate on the temperature in the later stage were discussed. The rate-controlling step for the dehydriding reaction of activated MgH2–10Ni–4Ti was analyzed as the chemical reaction at the hydride/α-solid solution interface. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
