Malachite green is a common environmental pollutant that poses a great threat to non-target organisms, including humans. This study reports the characterization of a bacterial strain, Pseudomonas veronii JW3-6, which was isolated from a malachite green enrichment culture. This strain degraded malachite green efficiently in a wide range of temperature and pH levels. Under optimal degradation conditions (32.4 °C, pH 7.1, and inoculum amount of 2.5 × 107 cfu/mL), P. veronii JW3-6 could degrade 93.5% of 50 mg/L malachite green within seven days. Five intermediate products from the degradation of malachite green were identified: leucomalachite green, 4-(dimethylamino) benzophenone, 4-dimethylaminophenol, benzaldehyde, and hydroquinone. We propose a possible degradation pathway based on these findings. The present study is the first to report the degradation of malachite green by P. veronii and the identification of hydroquinone as a metabolite in the degradation pathway.

Minimizing frictional resistance and preventing the attachment of marine organisms are extremely important for global ship navigation to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. However, there is still a lack of an effective and environmentally-friendly drag reduction and antifouling method. Here, we propose a spontaneous fast-moving air film to resolve this problem. We first developed a serial brachistochrone-shaped superhydrophobic pattern to easily capture underwater air bubbles and realize the spontaneous and directional transportation of bubbles with an average velocity of 444 mm s−1 that is the fastest in the whole world. Then, the continuous supply of air bubbles and serial brachistochrone-shaped superhydrophobic pattern were combined to form a spontaneous fast-moving air film, which not only prevents the escape of supplied air bubbles but also replenishes the air film on a superhydrophobic surface. The spontaneous fast-moving air film showed an amazing 27% drag reduction rate and simultaneous 80% antifouling rate, which was an outstanding capability that had never been reported before. This effective and environmentally-friendly drag reduction and antifouling method will minimize energy consumption and carbon emissions and has strong implications for global sustainable development. Spontaneous and directional water droplet transportation based on patterned surface with super-wettability is crucial for the development of frontier science technology. However, water droplet transportation cannot meet both long distance and fast transportation simultaneously. Here, we overcame this limitation by proposing an asymmetric serial brachistochrone-shaped pattern (ASBP). Water droplet could be transported on the ASBP with a transportation distance of 72.52 mm and a transportation velocity of 158 mm/s after a series of single-factor experiments, orthogonal design optimization, and junction transition optimization. In addition, the water droplet could be transported on a curved ASBP, a super-long ASBP for multi-droplet scenarios, and an ASBP at an inclination angle. Moreover, acidic and alkaline aqueous solution droplet showed similar transportation distance and transportation velocity on the ASBP. Based on the aforementioned superb water transportation capacity, this ASBP can be applied in the fields of fog collection, solution mixing and reaction, and reagent detection. Superhydrophobic surfaces have broad application prospects in various fields due to their special surface wettability. However, most artificial superhydrophobic surfaces are fabricated on rigid substrates or flexible substrates with low deformability, and their performance is difficult to guarantee when a large deformation occurs, hindering further application. Here, a superhydrophobic ultra‐stretchable (SU) film is fabricated by simple template replication and low surface energy modification method using the mixture of vulcanized natural latex (VNR) and silicone emulsion as raw material. The prepared SU film exhibits excellent elasticity and wettability stability and can maintain good superhydrophobicity even after 500% tensile strain. Moreover, droplets dropped on the SU film are bounced in time without any residue, avoiding the accumulation of droplets on the film. Finally, a magnetoelectric generator composed of a SU film and an electromagnetic system are developed to realize the efficient utilization and conversion of droplet energy via droplet impacting and bouncing behavior.
