This study aimed to carry out a systematic review of existing research on physiological, physical and anthropometric parameters in padel. After searching through PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, 33 articles were analyzed, covering physiological, physical, and anthropometric parameters. Physiologically, heart rate varies by sex and play level; men amateurs show a lower maximum heart rate compared to semi-professionals and professionals (154.75 vs 169.72 vs 188.6 beats per minute). Women players maintain consistent maximum heart rate across levels (∼178 beats per minute). Lactate levels during competition indicate effort within the aerobic transition zone, peaking at 2.40 millimole per liter in women and 3.38 millimole per liter in men. Regarding maximal oxygen consumption, padel players exhibit levels around 76.3%, increasing to 95.1% during peak exertion. Biochemical and hematological parameters vary by sex, with men players typically having higher basal levels, while competition reduces certain elements like copper and zinc. Physically, men players exhibit superior jump height, strength, and maximum speeds around 2.09 kilometers per hour, with significant lateral movements. The average distance covered per match is 3000 meters, with higher-level players traveling less. Anthropometrically, men players are taller with a mesomorphic-endomorphic profile, while women players have an endomorphic-mesomorphic somatotype. The study highlights the need for tailored training based on specific player characteristics and calls for further research to better individualize physical preparation in padel. Due to the economic development in Indian society, most people are experiencing a sedentary lifestyle and least physical exercise, which is responsible for the increase in various health issues. Exercise plays a great role in maintaining our health, and dancing is an enjoyable exercise which involves various body movements to stay fit and maintain the body shape. The present study attempted to find out the differences in body types between female dancers and non-dancers used as a control group. Out of total 140 female participants aged 18–40 years, 70 were dancers and the remaining 70 were age-matched controls. Heath and Carter's method of somatotyping was used to estimate the somatotypes of dancers and controls. Dancers and controls differed significantly (t -test, p <.05) in terms of their body types and shapes, with dancers having greater mean values of mesomorphy, while lower mean values of endomorphy and WHR compared to the control group. This study suggests, based on somatotype, that dancers were more muscular and less fatty than the control group. Also, dancers were found to have a lower waist circumference than the hip circumference, resulting in a pear-shaped body. In light of this, the study indicates that dancing is a useful art form and a health-beneficial substitute for other forms of exercise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Anthropometric parameters related with the periocular region (PR) have gained great importance with the optical technology used in the treatment of eye defects. They have also become important parameters that determine the limits of treatment in aesthetic surgery procedures in PR and the treatment of orbital diseases. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship of PR measurements with somatotype. Methods: Somatotypes were determined by using the Heath-Carter method. Ten indirect anthropometric measurements, namely nasal root (mf-mf), outer chantal distance (ex-ex), inner chantal distance (en-en), interpupillary distance (p-p), right and left palpebral fissure width (ex-en), palpebral fissure height (ps-pi), and orbital height (os-oi), were taken from PR with Image J program. Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to compare data with each other. Post-hoc Mann-Whitney U test was used to find out which group caused statistically significant differences according to the results of the Kruskal-Wallis H test. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between some indirect anthropometric measurements taken from PR and somatotypes (P < 0,05). This difference was found to result from central group somatotype, in which no somatotype component has different effects from another one, for both genders. In almost all of the indirect anthropometric measurements, it was found that balanced ectomorph somatotypes reached the highest median values, while central group somatotypes had the lowest median values. Conclusion: As a result of this study, somatotype affects the appearance of PR. It will be possible to obtain more accurate and reliable results in aesthetic surgery interventions and identification studies. Our study is the first and a pioneer in its field in the literature. It will inspire and guide future researchers, surgeons, anthropologists, and forensic doctors who will work in this field.

Aim – to identify a correlation between the somatotype of a patient with liver cirrhosis and changes in the composition of the intestinal microbiota. Material and methods. The study included 46 patients diagnosed with liver cirrhosis of various etiologies. The somatotype of the patients was determined using a bioimpedance analyzer of body composition (ABC-01 "Medass"). The intestinal microbiota was analyzed once by 16s rRNA sequencing. The processing of the received data was carried out using the program “Statistica". Results. Among 46 patients diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, the majority (26 patients) had a mesoendomorphic somatotype, 14 patients were representatives of endomesomorphs. The predominance of representatives of the genera Streptococcus (p-value = 0.02), Campylobacter (p-value = 0.049) and Holdemanella (p-value = 0.048) was statistically significant in the group of endomesomorphs, while bacteria from the genera Klebsiella (p-value = 0.01) and Gammaproteobacteria (p-value = 0.048) prevailed in the group of mesoendomorphs (p-value = 0.02). Taxa of the intestinal microbiota of Pyramidobacter were expressed in patients with the endomorphic somatotype (p-value = 0.016).

Background/Objectives: This study aims to analyze and compare the somatotypes of professional football players from Slovakia with a non-athletic population. Methods: Comparative analysis of professional soccer players by their positions, goalkeepers (n = 4; 8%), defenders (n = 16; 32%), strikers (n = 15; 30%), and midfielders (n = 15; 30%), in average age 16.88 ± 1.29 years, based on selected anthropometric parameters, somatotype components, and the resultant somatotype using the Heath–Carter method. Results: The average somatotype of the soccer players was categorized as an ectomorphic mesomorph (40%). Goalkeepers showed significantly greater body height (BH 187.98 ± 3.166 cm) and weight (BW 82.33 ± 4.922 kg) than midfielders (BH 179.25 ± 6.126 cm; p = 0.03; BW 68 ± 6.304 kg; p = 0.014) and strikers (BH 176.04 ± 4.998 cm; p = 0.026; BW 68.93 ± 6.591 kg; p = 0.026). Defenders had significantly greater BH (182.14 ± 4.853 cm; p = 0.026) than strikers. Goalkeepers also had a significantly higher BMI than midfielders (23.28 ± 0.698 vs. 21.14 ± 1.282 kg/m2; p = 0.02) and greater epicondylar width of the humerus (EWH 7.36 ± 0.14 cm) compared to strikers (EWH 6.79 ± 0.308 cm; p = 0.014). The average somatotype values identified goalkeepers [2.0–4.1–3.1], defenders [1.6–3.9–3.2], and strikers [1.7–4.2–2.9] as ectomorphic mesomorphs, while midfielders were identified as mesomorph–ectomorphs [1.6–3.7–3.6]. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the changes that may occur in the morphology of the anal sphincter muscles in hemorrhoidal disease. The relationship between the somatotype features of individuals and the disease was also evaluated. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted with 76 stage IV hemorrhoidal disease patients and 75 controls. Internal (IAS) and external (EAS) anal sphincter muscle thicknesses were measured at the middle anal canal level, and in four quadrants (anterior, posterior, right, left), puborectalis muscle thicknesses were measured at the upper anal canal level and in two quadrants (right, left) by using 3D-endoanal ultrasonography (3DEAUSG). Anal triangle dimensions were measured with a digital caliper and the area was calculated with the relevant formula. The somatotype features were determined using the Heath-Carter formula. Results: It was observed that the external anal sphincter muscle thicknesses were higher in the right and posterior quadrants of the patients compared to the control group. The internal anal sphincter muscle thicknesses were thicker in the right and anterior quadrants in the patient group. Somatotype features of individuals in the patient and control groups were similar. Conclusion: The thickening in some quadrants of the anal sphincter muscles in the patient group can be considered a result of hemorrhoidal disease. However, the fact that there is no difference the mean value cannot confirm its relationship with the disease. Determining the reference base of anthropometric parameters on a sample of elite athletes is one of the foundations of further research and forming a clearer picture of each sport and sports discipline. In this study, the aim was to describe the anthropometric and somatotype profiles of elite Finn class sailors and to determine the differences in the measured parameters between sailors at different levels of general competitive success. The subject sample included 57 Finn class sailors who competed at the open Finn European Championship. A set of 25 anthropometric variables were applied. The sailors were divided into three groups according to their level of general competitive success using World Sailing Rankings. Finn sailors had higher average values in almost all morphological characteristics when compared to the sailors in other Olympic classes. Considering the average values of somatotype categories, we determined that Finn sailors fit the endomorphic mesomorph somatotype category (3.94 ± 1.19 − 5.50 ± 1.19 − 1.63 ± 0.74). Significant differences were observed between more-successful, medium, and less-successful sailors in the variables of age, body mass, muscle mass, arm muscle mass, and endomorphy rating. These results indicate the possibility of selection processes and/or adaptation to sailing occurring in the Finn class. The anthropometric characteristics of Finn sailors compared to sailors in Olympic classes further "support" the Finn class being called the "heavy dinghy" male class. This study on anthropometric parameters, determined via a sample of top Finn sailors, may be of great help to coaches and young sailors when deciding on the selection of an adult sailing class. Determining the physical development of the population of the regions is quite convenient within the framework of identifying the level of public health, while it is very important to track changes in the physical health of adolescents entering the reproductive phase of life, depending on the periods of development of the country. The aim of this study was to identify significant changes in the morphological profile of adolescents in Penza and Penza region over 15 years. Material and methods. The object of the study were 492 people of both sexes, 16 to 21 years of age, born and permanently residing in Penza and settlements of Penza region, divided into two groups according to the year of birth (group 1 – born in 1986–1990, 2 group – born in 1999–2004). Anthropometry and somatometry were carried out by the method of V.V. Bunak with subsequent comparative analysis of statistical indicators. For a comparative assessment of the level of physical development and identification of significant differences between the two groups, the following index methods were used: body mass, Rohrer, Erisman, Pignet, Rees-Eysenck, Tanner. Results and discussion. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that Penza residents of 1999–2004 birth, compared with predecessors, there was a significant increase in the studied absolute anthropometric parameters with a simultaneous shortening of the hand and shin length. Among the representatives of the modern youth of the region, when compared with the group of 1986– 1990 birth, the number of people with mesomorphy increased by 2.2 times, the number of people with overweight – by 1.5 times, the number of individuals with a narrow chest – by 1.3 times, the number of cases of a low degree of physical development, hypersthenic type (according to the results of calculating the Rees-Eysenck index) – by 1.2 times, at the same time the number of normosthenics increased by 1.1 times (according to the results of calculating the Pignet index). Conclusions. Comparative analysis showed significant changes in the constitution of the autochthons of Penza region of adolescents over 15 years.

Introduction. Body mass index (BMI), which is measured as the ratio of body weight to height squared, is one of the widely used criteria for classifying overweight and obesity. Despite its popularity, BMI is often criticized for not taking into account individual differences in body composition and fat distribution, which can lead to inaccuracies in the classification of the degree of obesity. Aim. To develop and test a somatotype diagnostic algorithm based on the integration and comprehensive analysis of fat content, skeletal muscle mass, and fat distribution. Materials and methods. The study was conducted on a group of 82 men with different indicators of BMI. A developed algorithm was used to diagnose somatotype, which included body fat index (IBF), limb muscle mass index (IASM), and waist circumference to height ratio (WHtR). The results were analyzed and classified according to the defined criteria. Results. The proposed algorithm was tested on a sample of 82 examined men, who were divided into 2 groups depending on BMI. Thanks to our algorithm, it was possible to identify prognostically unfavorable somatotypes characterized by sarcopenia with a central type of fat distribution. These are F1S1C1 and F2S1C1 somatotypes, the total number of which was 9 examined (10.96% of the sample). Approbation of the algorithm was carried out on a group of examined men, confirmed its effectiveness and ability to detect different somatotypes, taking into account complex parameters of the body. Conclusions. Our research algorithm turned out to be a useful tool for somatotype diagnosis, especially in cases where BMI may not accurately reflect the real state of health. Taking into account individual differences in body components such as fat content, skeletal muscle mass and fat distribution, we provide a more accurate classification of somatotype and the possibility of a more individualized approach to treatment and prevention.

The aim of this study was to investigate the anthropometric characteristics of streetlifting athletes in the different body weight categories and to develop specific equations to predict the individual performance in the different exercises included in competitive programs (chin-up, dip, muscle-up and squat). A total of 79 athletes (60 men and 19 women; age: 26.1 ± 6.4 y; body mass: 72.7 ± 13.2 kg; height: 171.7 ± 8.9 cm) were tested in accordance with the Italian National championships. Athletes were tested for anthropometry and body composition before the competition, and the performance in each lift was registered. A partial correlation of 0.47 and 0.60 was detected between arm girth and chin-up and dip performance, respectively. On the contrary, body fat was negatively correlated with the same exercises (r = −0.42). Squat performance appeared mainly determined by fat-free mass and thigh cross-sectional area, while body fat did not affect the performance in this exercise. The prediction equations developed were based on anthropometric and body composition parameters and showed near-perfect correlations with the participants' competitive results (R2 between 0.66 and 0.90). The normative data presented in this investigation and the prediction equations developed may help coaches and practitioners in athlete evaluation and comprehension of the key factor of streetlifting performance. The article studied the level of situational and personal anxiety of students with different somatotypes, as well as external indicators of breathing: respiratory rate (RR), tidal volume at rest (TVR), vital capacity (VC), inspiratory reserve volume (IRV), expiratory reserve volume (ERV) under exam stress. Currently, the health of students requires a lot of attention, because students are one of the representative groups of the population of our country. The health of the younger generation is formed under the influence of biological and social factors. The ability to maintain the resistance of one’s body to exogenous factors and to adapt to changing environmental conditions depends on the state of physical development of students, the functioning of organs and systems. Adaptation to a complex of factors characteristic of higher education in a modern pedagogical environment is a complex and multi-level socio-psycho-physiological process, accompanied by significant tension in the body’s compensatory systems. Anxiety is a mental state of a person associated with increased emotional or physical stress, a tendency to experience anxiety and fear in specific social situations. The relevance of studying the factors of anxiety and emotional stability (tolerance) is determined, first of all, by the extremity and dynamics of the subject’s current life, which leads him to stress, chronic psycho-emotional tension and fear in space and time. Homeostasis of the respiratory system is a prerequisite for its normal functioning and is ensured by a number of physiological mechanisms, among which the conditioning function of the lungs occupies a particularly important place. The change in temperature and humidity of inhaled air to the state of the body is carried out due to complex processes of heat and mass transfer in the respiratory tract. Many aspects of this process in normal conditions and especially in pathologies of the respiratory system are controversial issues. Our study showed a decrease in the adaptive and physical abilities of first-year students with different somatotypes to learning conditions, and changes in physiological indicators after exam stress. During the study, first-year students with an asthenic somatotype had very high levels of personal and situational anxiety; this increase in anxiety indicates insufficient emotional adaptation to an extreme situation. A high level of anxiety threatens a person’s mental health and contributes to the development of neurotic conditions. A high level of constant anxiety is considered as a condition leading to the development of psychosomatic pathology. The article examines the indicators of the respiratory system in first-year students during the exam: in comparison with hypersthenic students and asthenic students, normosthenic students have significantly increased hemodynamic indicators, which indicates the influence of exam stress on a significant increase in respiratory rate, which is a large factor. Breaking is a performative art that has recently undergone a process of sportification, developing into an aesthetic sport included in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Despite its growing worldwide popularity, there is a lack of research on Breaking. Accordingly, this pilot study's aim was twofold: (a) to provide an initial understanding of the anthropometric measures, body composition data, somatotype profiles, and strength performance of male (B-boys) and female (B-girls) Italian Breakers divided into elite (international) and sub-elite (national) levels and (b) to guide further research on the area, providing the methodological approach for future investigations. A total of 24 B-boys (elite n = 5; sub-elite n = 19) and 9 B-girls (elite n = 3; sub-elite n = 6) were included in this study. Descriptive analyses revealed that B-boys and B-girls displayed low height and weight (1.70 m (63.8 kg) and 1.58 m (54.2 kg), respectively), low levels of body fat percentages (10.3% and 17.6%, respectively), and a balanced mesomorph somatotype (2.28–4.64–2.69 and 2.34–5.16–2.38, respectively), revealing a marked development of muscular mass. Due to the small sample size, Welch's test and correlation analyses did not report any elite vs. sub-elite difference. It was hypothesized that Breakers' morphological profiles result from the selection procedures and training regimens related to Breaking aesthetic, athletic, and physiological demands. Relevant properties of the somatotype as important indicators can be associated with the body composition characteristics as well as both metabolic and bio-mechanical efficiency of athletes in the sport concerned. The primary aim of this single cross-sectional study was to determine the somatotype profiles in association with body composition and nutritional profiles among Lithuanian elite athletes (n = 189) involved in water, cycling and combat sports. The body composition along with the somatotype profiles and the nutritional status of athletes were evaluated using a battery of multiple frequency (5, 50, 250, 550, and 1000 kHz) bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and a 3-day food record analysis. In terms of the prediction for athletes to be classified as endomorphs, mesomorphs or ectomorphs, the linear discriminant analysis was conducted to assess the grouping of samples. Both the multiple linear regression and multivariate logistic regression statistical analyses were performed to explore the associations between the independent and dependent variables. The central tendency values for the somatotype components of endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy in athletes playing water, cycling and combat sports were 4.3–4.9–3.4, 4.3–4.8–3.4 and 4.5–5.5–2.9, respectively. The central mesomorph somatotype with a trend towards endomorphy was dominant and varied according to a high muscle-to-fat ratio in elite athletes. Significant (p ≤ 0.001) positive associations between both endomorphy and mesomorphy values and higher body fat percentage as well as lower and upper limb muscle mass were identified. The lower levels of trunk muscle mass were related to athletes' endomorphy and mesomorphy, too. Furthermore, in the athletes' sample under analysis, high-level mesomorphs were prone to consume low-carbohydrate (adjusted odd ratio (AOR) 0.5, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.2; 0.9) and high-protein diets (AOR 2.5, 95% CI 1.1; 5.5). Contrastingly, the elite athletes with a higher expression of endomorphy were on high-carbohydrate (AOR 5.4, 95% CI 1.1; 8.3) and high-fat diets (AOR 4.6, 95% CI 1.5; 7.1) along with insufficient protein diet (AOR 0.3, 95% CI 0.1; 0.9). Finally, whilst nutrition goals as a mediator can play a significant role in undergoing the maintenance of balance between the optimal body composition for athletic performance and the development of an ecto-mesomorphic somatotype, the elite athletes with higher levels of endomorphy value should be aware of lowering the body fat percentage coupled with dietary fat reduction and higher protein intakes. The findings obtained from the study may serve as an antecedent for a more targeted management of the elite athletes' training process. Somatotyping as an additional assessment method can be successfully deployed in choosing correct coaching techniques, contributing to talent recognition processes or identifying reference morphometric parameters in elite athletes competing in water, cycling and combat sports. Humans share a similar body structure, but each individual possesses unique characteristics, which we define as one's body type. Various classification methods have been devised to understand and assess these body types. Recent research has applied artificial intelligence technology utilizing noninvasive measurement tools, such as 3D body scanner, which minimize physical contact. The purpose of this study was to develop an artificial intelligence somatotype system capable of predicting the three body types proposed by Heath-Carter's somatotype theory using 3D body images collected using a 3D body scanner. To classify body types, measurements were taken to determine the three somatotype components (endomorphy, mesomorphy, and ectomorphy). MobileNetV2 was utilized as the transfer learning model. The results of this study are as follows: first, the AI somatotype model showed good performance, with a training accuracy around 91% and a validation accuracy around 72%. The respective loss values were 0.26 for the training set and 0.69 for the validation set. Second, validation of the model's performance using test data resulted in accurate predictions for 18 out of 21 new data points, with prediction errors occurring in three cases, indicating approximately 85% classification accuracy. This study provides foundational data for subsequent research aiming to predict 13 detailed body types across the three body types. Furthermore, it is hoped that the outcomes of this research can be applied in practical settings, enabling anyone with a smartphone camera to identify various body types based on captured images and predict obesity and diseases. This article uses a mixed-methods approach combining historical inquiry and quantitative science mapping techniques to examine the expanding reach of the somatotype body measurement and classification system, based on posture photography and anthropometric measurements, well into the twenty-first century. It illuminates the persistence of deterministic thinking about the relationships between physique and athletic ability in physical education and sports science, as well as how these views evolve. While William Sheldon, founder of the somatotype system, increasingly shifted his research focus toward criminal anthropology, physical educators throughout the second half of the twentieth century found the somatotype useful for assessing the physique and performance of Olympic athletes, often drawing on a priori racial and ethnic categories. By the early 2000s, somatotype research was becoming increasingly popular internationally, focused mainly on the measurement and assessment of sporting talent through drawing correlations between body type and sports performance and relying on commonsense assumptions about the innateness of athletic ability. This study aimed to provide reference values for anthropometric characteristics of elite male and female soccer players, considering a group of individuals from the general population as controls. The anthropometric profiles of 357 elite soccer players [184 males (age 24.3 ± 4.3 y) and 173 females (age 25.2 ± 5.1 y)] participating in the first Italian league (Serie A) and 363 subjects from the general population [188 males (age 24.2 ± 4.8 y) and 175 females (age 25.0 ± 5.1 y)] were measured according to the guidelines of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). Reference percentiles for stature, body mass, circumferences, eight skinfolds (biceps, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac, supraspinal, abdominal, front thigh, and calf), breadths, and somatotype were calculated and stratified by player position and sex. No difference (p > 0.05) was found in age between the two groups. Soccer players showed lower values for the sum of the eight ISAK skinfolds than individuals from the general population of the same sex. This suggests lower adipose tissue, as indicated by a lower endomorphic component. The somatotype was endomorphic mesomorph and mesomorphic endomorph for the male and female individuals from the general population, respectively. The male soccer players were ectomorphic mesomorphs, while the females were balanced mesomorphs, defining a sport-specific morphology. This study provides sex- and role-specific anthropometric standards for elite soccer players. The purpose of the present study was to determine and compare the children's somatotypes of three ethnic groups living in the Plovdiv region, Bulgaria. Material and Methods: A cohort of 194 children were enrolled in the study. They were divided into four groups by sex and age. Each group were divided by ethnicity into three subgroups: Bulgarian, Turkish and Roma origins. The regression equations introduced by Heath and Carter were used to determine the somatotype components. Results: The somatotype of Bulgarian and Roma boys aged 11-12 years was defined as mesomorph-endomorph, while the somatotype of Turkish boys was determined as central. The somatotype of boys aged 13-14 years was defined as follows: Bulgarian boys- balanced endomorph, Turkish boys- endomorph-ectomorph and Roma boys with central somatotype. The mean somatotype of Bulgarian girls aged 11-12 years was defined as ectomorphic an endomorph, while the somatotype of both Turkish and Roma girls was defined a mesomorphic endomorph. Similar results were found analyzing the mean somatotype of girls aged 13-14 years. Conclusion: The period of puberty has a very important impact on the development of the human body. The mean somatotype of Bulgarian boys aged 11-12 years has changed from mesomorph-endomorph to balanced endomorph. The mean somatotype of Turkish boys aged 11-12 has changed from central to endomorph-ectomorph. The mean somatotype of Roma boys aged 11-12 has changed from mesomorph-endomorph to central. The mean somatotype of Bulgarian girls was ectomorphic endomorphic; for Turkish and Roma girls it was mesomorphic endomorphic for both age group.

Abstract Background Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a rapid and user-friendly technique for assessing body composition in sports. Currently, no sport-specific predictive equations are available, and the utilization of generalized formulas can introduce systematic bias. The objectives of this study were as follows: (i) to develop and validate new predictive models for estimating fat-free mass (FFM) components in male elite soccer players; (ii) to evaluate the accuracy of existing predictive equations. Methods A total of 102 male elite soccer players (mean age 24.7 ± 5.7 years), participating in the Italian first league, underwent assessments during the first half of the in-season period and were randomly divided into development and validation groups. Bioelectrical resistance (R) and reactance (Xc), representing the bioimpedance components, were measured using a foot-to-hand BIA device at a single frequency of 50 kHz. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was employed to acquire reference data for FFM, lean soft tissue (LST), and appendicular lean soft tissue (ALST). The validation of the newly developed predictive equations was conducted through regression analysis, Bland–Altman tests, and the area under the curves (AUC) of regression receiver operating characteristic (RROC) curves. Results Developed models were: FFM = − 7.729 + (body mass × 0.686) + (stature2/R × 0.227) + (Xc × 0.086) + (age × 0.058), R2 = 0.97, Standard error of estimation (SEE) = 1.0 kg; LST = − 8.929 + (body mass × 0.635) + (stature2/R × 0.244) + (Xc × 0.093) + (age × 0.048), R2 = 0.96, SEE = 0.9 kg; ALST = − 24.068 + (body mass × 0.347) + (stature2/R × 0.308) + (Xc × 0.152), R2 = 0.88, SEE = 1.4 kg. Train-test validation, performed on the validation group, revealed that generalized formulas for athletes underestimated all the predicted FFM components (p 0.05), with R2 values ranging from 0.83 to 0.91, and no trend (p > 0.05). The AUC scores of the RROC curves indicated an accuracy of 0.92, 0.92, and 0.74 for FFM, LST, and ALST, respectively. Conclusions The utilization of generalized predictive equations leads to an underestimation of FFM and ALST in elite soccer players. The newly developed soccer-specific formulas enable valid estimations of body composition while preserving the portability of a field-based method.

Background/Objectives: This study aims to analyze and compare the somatotypes of professional football players from Slovakia with a non-athletic population. Methods: Comparative analysis of professional soccer players by their positions, goalkeepers (n = 4; 8%), defenders (n = 16; 32%), strikers (n = 15; 30%), and midfielders (n = 15; 30%), in average age 16.88 ± 1.29 years, based on selected anthropometric parameters, somatotype components, and the resultant somatotype using the Heath–Carter method. Results: The average somatotype of the soccer players was categorized as an ectomorphic mesomorph (40%). Goalkeepers showed significantly greater body height (BH 187.98 ± 3.166 cm) and weight (BW 82.33 ± 4.922 kg) than midfielders (BH 179.25 ± 6.126 cm; p = 0.03; BW 68 ± 6.304 kg; p = 0.014) and strikers (BH 176.04 ± 4.998 cm; p = 0.026; BW 68.93 ± 6.591 kg; p = 0.026). Defenders had significantly greater BH (182.14 ± 4.853 cm; p = 0.026) than strikers. Goalkeepers also had a significantly higher BMI than midfielders (23.28 ± 0.698 vs. 21.14 ± 1.282 kg/m2; p = 0.02) and greater epicondylar width of the humerus (EWH 7.36 ± 0.14 cm) compared to strikers (EWH 6.79 ± 0.308 cm; p = 0.014). The average somatotype values identified goalkeepers [2.0–4.1–3.1], defenders [1.6–3.9–3.2], and strikers [1.7–4.2–2.9] as ectomorphic mesomorphs, while midfielders were identified as mesomorph–ectomorphs [1.6–3.7–3.6]. Conclusions: The results highlight the importance of somatotype in player position suitability and its impact on physical attributes in football.

The background of the problem is that there are many influencing factors, one of which is the compatibility of the body type somatotype and BMI that supports the sport involved. In order to get maximum performance, a condition is needed for players who have good physical abilities, techniques, and tactics and are supported by good somatotype conditions. This type of research is quantitative. One dependent variable is the heading ability of a soccer athlete, and two independent variables, namely somatotype and body mass index. The sample of this study were all football athletes from the Senopati club. Data research instruments used BMI measurement tests, anthropometry tests, and heading ability tests. The results of this study are that there is a good relationship between somatotype and the heading ability of soccer athletes, and there is a good relationship between body mass index and the heading ability of soccer athletes. The percentage is very good 50%, good 45%, and very bad 5%. The conclusion from the research results is that there is a good relationship between somatotype and the heading ability of soccer athletes, and there is a good relationship between body mass index and the heading abilities of soccer athletes.

Background and Study Aim. Comparative analysis of physical development and body composition using the index method in kickboxing athletes with different training experience. Material and Methods. Participants: 30 kickboxing athletes, group 1 – 15 people, (13.20±0.60) years old, training experience (0.71±0.13) years. Group 2 - 15 people, (15.20±1.14) years old, training experience (6.80±1.16) years. 18 anthropometric indicators were determined. 21 indices were calculated based on them. The median (Me), 1 (25%) and 3 (75%) quartiles were determined. The somatotype was determined by the bioimpedance method using the OMRON BF-511 body composition monitor (Japan). The significance of differences in the groups was assessed by the nonparametric Rosenbaum test (Q). Results. A significant excess of indicators of the 2nd group in terms of Erisman's index (Q=10), Pignet's index (Q=7), Livy's index (Q=12), Isakson's body surface area (Q=11) and relative body surface (Q=21) was established , relative length of arm (Q=11) and leg (Q=14), index of arm circumference (Q=15) and leg (Q=6), shoulder index (Q=10), indices of massiveness of segments of the forearm (Q=11) and shoulder (Q=30), conditional moments of force of the forearm (Q=30), shoulder (Q=30), lower leg (Q=30) and thigh (Q=30). A trend towards a decrease in fat content and an increase in muscle tissue in more trained athletes has been confirmed. Conclusions. A comparative analysis of the physical development and body composition of kickboxing athletes with different training experience confirmed certain differences. More trained kickboxers had better indicators of the shoulder index, which reflects the posture of the athletes. The Erisman index illustrated the increase in the muscles of the torso under the influence of training loads. The increase in body surface area and relative body surface reflects the greater adaptive potential of more trained kickboxers. The large relative length of the arms and legs, the indices of the ratio of the segments of the limbs, the indices of massiveness and the conditional moments of the segments' strength reflect the best technical capabilities of more trained athletes, the ability to blow at a greater distance and with greater force. The adequacy of using the method of indices as more informative than anthropometric indicators is shown. It is proposed to use these indices in monitoring the state of kickboxing athletes.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the anthropometric features used in the determination of somatotypes of patients with rotator cuff tears (RCT) and the condition before and after physiotherapy. In our study, 84 patients (43 female, 41 male) who were admitted to Tekirdağ State Hospital in 2020-2021 and diagnosed with RCT were included. Participants were grouped and evaluated in terms of age and gender. Visual analog scale (VAS) scoring for pain, Western Ontario Rotator Cuff (WORC) index, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), and Quick Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) scores for shoulder function and range of motion (ROM) values were measured. The Heath-Carter method was used for somatotype determination. Conventional physical therapy was applied to patients. 64 (76.2%) patients had endomorph-mesomorph, 14 (17%) had mesomorph-endomorph, 4 (5%) had mesomorph-endomorph, 1 (1%) had balanced mesomorph and 1 (1%) had ectomorph-endomorph somatotype. 71.4% of the participants younger than 45 years of age and 50% of those between 45 and 55 had partial tears; 80% of those between 56 and 65 and 76.5% of those older than 65 had a complete tear. Of the patients, 53.3% had cardiovascular diseases, 41.3% had problems with the digestive system, 25% had diabetes, and 24% had problems with the musculoskeletal system. The presence of RCT in the non-dominant shoulder was detected in 33.5% of the patients. There were statistically significant differences between the median values of VAS, Quick DASH, WORC, SPADI, and ROM before and after physical therapy. Regardless of gender, RCT patients had predominantly mesomorphic body types. Individuals with mesomorphic body types are more likely to have RCT. The presence of full-thickness tears was found to be closely related to advanced age. Physiotherapy has been proven to be beneficial for RCT patients in our study. Introduction: Sports performance is multifactorial, including body composition and somatotype. These factors can potentially influence the development of an athlete's biological potential and, more specifically, interfere with the technical execution of the sport. Purpose: Determine the body composition and somatotype of swimmers from the Maldonado Sports School, Uruguay. Materials and Methods: The sample size (n) consisted of 38 individuals aged between 10 and 18 years old. Body composition was determined using four-component method. Somatotype was determined by assessing the three components of somatotype separately (endomorphy, mesomorphy, ectomorphy). All parameters were determined and classified by sex. Results: The average values for fat tissue, bone tissue, muscle tissue, and residual weight for female athletes were 16.48, 17.20, 45.43, and 20.90, respectively. For male athletes, the average values were 9.88, 19.02, 50.22, and 20.90, respectively. The somatotype components for female athletes were 3.248 (endomorphy), 4.787 (mesomorphy), and 2.565 (ectomorphy), while for male athletes, they were 1.773 (endomorphy), 4.533 (mesomorphy), and 3.373 (ectomorphy). Discussion and Conclusion: It was found that female athletes exhibited a predominance of adipose tissue, while male athletes showed a higher proportion of bone and muscle tissue. Regarding somatotype, there was a trend towards centrality with a predominance of the mesomorphic component for both sexes (female = mesoendomorphic, male = mesoectomorphic). The aim of this study was to investigate the anthropometric characteristics of streetlifting athletes in the different body weight categories and to develop specific equations to predict the individual performance in the different exercises included in competitive programs (chin-up, dip, muscle-up and squat). A total of 79 athletes (60 men and 19 women; age: 26.1 ± 6.4 y; body mass: 72.7 ± 13.2 kg; height: 171.7 ± 8.9 cm) were tested in accordance with the Italian National championships. Athletes were tested for anthropometry and body composition before the competition, and the performance in each lift was registered. A partial correlation of 0.47 and 0.60 was detected between arm girth and chin-up and dip performance, respectively. On the contrary, body fat was negatively correlated with the same exercises (r = −0.42). Squat performance appeared mainly determined by fat-free mass and thigh cross-sectional area, while body fat did not affect the performance in this exercise. The prediction equations developed were based on anthropometric and body composition parameters and showed near-perfect correlations with the participants’ competitive results (R2 between 0.66 and 0.90). The normative data presented in this investigation and the prediction equations developed may help coaches and practitioners in athlete evaluation and comprehension of the key factor of streetlifting performance.

Breaking is a performative art that has recently undergone a process of sportification, developing into an aesthetic sport included in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Despite its growing worldwide popularity, there is a lack of research on Breaking. Accordingly, this pilot study’s aim was twofold: (a) to provide an initial understanding of the anthropometric measures, body composition data, somatotype profiles, and strength performance of male (B-boys) and female (B-girls) Italian Breakers divided into elite (international) and sub-elite (national) levels and (b) to guide further research on the area, providing the methodological approach for future investigations. A total of 24 B-boys (elite n = 5; sub-elite n = 19) and 9 B-girls (elite n = 3; sub-elite n = 6) were included in this study. Descriptive analyses revealed that B-boys and B-girls displayed low height and weight (1.70 m (63.8 kg) and 1.58 m (54.2 kg), respectively), low levels of body fat percentages (10.3% and 17.6%, respectively), and a balanced mesomorph somatotype (2.28–4.64–2.69 and 2.34–5.16–2.38, respectively), revealing a marked development of muscular mass. Due to the small sample size, Welch’s test and correlation analyses did not report any elite vs. sub-elite difference. It was hypothesized that Breakers’ morphological profiles result from the selection procedures and training regimens related to Breaking aesthetic, athletic, and physiological demands.

This study describes the anthropometric measurements and somatotype of the elite female futsal players from Brazil in 2021 and analyse the changes and trends over time in these physical characteristics. Data were collected from the 396 female futsal players, of whom; 169 players were assessed in 2021 then compared to those assessed in 2001 (n=112) and 2011 (n-115). Anthropometric measurements, including body weight, height, breadths, girths, and skinfolds were assessed. The somatotype was calculated and graphically represented. The changes between 2021 and the previous years were analysed using ANOVA and multiple linear regression. A jointpoint regression was performed to verify the annual percentage change. The comparison between 2021 data versus the other time points showed a higher age and lower fat content (2001: 22.7 ± 5.1 BF%; 2011: 22.2 ± 5.2 BF%; 2021: 19.0 ± 5.1 BF%). Players from 2021 had higher tensed arm and relaxed calf girths. All the positions, excluding pivots, significantly decreased their body fat units between 2021 and 2001 (goalkeeper: b=-4.49; defender: b=-2.78; winger: b=-4.48). Over the last 20 years, body fat reduced, and tensed arm and relaxed calf girths increased, suggesting an increase in fat-free mass content from the limbs.

Background. Constant monitoring and identification of trends in changes in the physical development of childhood and adolescence leads to the most effective detection of diseases that affect the gene pool and reduce the working capacity of the country’s population. The purpose of the study is to identify significant changes in the somatometric and anthropometric profiles of adolescents by the example of residents of Penza region aged 17-21, divided into 2 groups according to the year of birth. Materials and methods. To achieve the goal of the study, we used the results of anthropometric and somatometric studies of 207 boys aged 17-21 years old, born and permanently residing in Penza and settlements of Penza region, divided into 2 groups according to the year of birth: the 1st group was 110 boys 1986-1990 birth, the 2nd group consisted of 97 young men in 1999-2004 birth. Variation-statistical methods were used to compare the results of the examination of the two groups. Results. The changes affected both anthropometric indicators and the results of calculating the indices. The representatives of the 2nd group showed an increase in standing height, a latitudinal increase in the axial skeleton with a simultaneous decrease in chest circumference. There was a significant change in the length of the upper and lower limbs. An increase in the number of people with a narrow chest, normosthenic and asthenic body types is characteristic; there was an increase in the number of cases of underweight and overweight, mesomorphy, persons with a low and moderate degree of physical development. Conclusions. The study revealed significant changes in the anthropometric and somatometric profile of Penza residents.

BACKGROUND: Somatotype causes differentiation of physical, physiological and biochemical metabolisms in the body. To what extent meniscopathy (M) is affected by somatotype profiles has been an issue of concern. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate whether somatotype profiles have an effect on kinesiophobia, pain, proprioception and isokinetic muscle strength in patients with an M diagnosis. METHODS: 172 (85 female, 87 male) M patients between the ages of 18 and 65 were included in the study. The Heath-Carter method was used to determine somatotype components. Biodex Isokinetic system at 120 ∘ /sec angular speed was used for muscle strength measurements, a digital inclinometer with goniometer was used for proprioception measurement, the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS) was used for the assessment of kinesiophobia, the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) fatigue scale was used for the assessment of fatigue and pain, and the visual analogue scale (VAS) was used for pain assessment. RESULTS: Five somatotype profiles were found. When the right-left knee proprioception values were compared according to the somatotype profiles of patients, a significant difference was found in favor of balanced ectomorph at 15 ∘ and 30 ∘. No significant difference was found when TKS, FACIT, VAS values were compared in terms of somatotype profiles; while no significant difference was found in TKS, FACIT, VAS (REST-NIGHT) in terms of gender, a significant difference was found in VAS MOVE. Endomorph somatotype was dominant in the M patients. CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with M disease showed significant differences in terms of endomorph components. Featured Application: This research shows the results of the body composition of male soccer players from different divisions of Spanish soccer, differentiated in turn by the different playing positions which, until now, had not been analyzed. These results could be a guide for the medical and technical staff when focusing and individualizing training objectives to achieve maximum performance. Body composition is an important factor in a soccer player's performance, and anthropometry is one of the most widely used methods of measurement. The physical demands of Spanish soccer have evolved over time, so the ideal body composition requirements must be adapted to the present day. The aim of this study was to describe the anthropometric and body composition profiles of professional soccer players in the second, second B, and third divisions during the 2019–2020 season in order to compare the anthropometric parameters of players among positions and competitive divisions. A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine differences in kinanthropometric and derived variables in a sample of Spanish soccer players. A total of 615 soccer players from the second (116 players), second B (310 players), and third (189 players) divisions participated in this study. After comparing the groups according to the playing position and category, it was observed that at higher levels of play, soccer players show lower values of fat mass (FM) and higher values of muscle mass (MM) and bone mass (BM); at lower levels of play, soccer players show more anthropometric differences between playing positions. Lastly, the somatotype of the elite soccer player is balanced mesomorphic, with higher levels of mesomorphy at higher levels of play. This study aims to assess the nutritional status of Aymara and non-Aymara children in Arica, comparing anthropometric measurements of boys and girls aged 4-10 to inform interventions for child health and development. We conducted a non-experimental, quantitative, cross-sectional study in Arica, Chile. The sample included 458 children, with equal representation of Aymara and non-Aymara children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Trained research assistants collected anthropometric data using standardized techniques. IBM SPSS statistical software was used for data analysis, including Student's t-test and the Levene test. Both Aymara and non-Aymara children showed high prevalence of overweight and obesity. Boys had a meso-endomorph somatotype, while girls had an endomorph somatotype. Among 8-year-olds, non-Aymara children had a slightly higher mean body weight (35.87, SD 4.50) compared to Aymara children (32.27, SD 4.31), but the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). However, 10-year-old Aymara girls had a significantly higher mean body mass index (22.34, SD 4.21) than non-Aymara girls (20.10, SD 3.58) (p=0.05). Regarding body fat percentage, 10-yearold non-Aymara girls had a slightly higher mean (31.01, SD 5.64) than Aymara girls (26.12, SD 5.63), but the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). The study found high levels of overweight and obesity in children from northern Chile, increasing with age for both Aymara and non-Aymara groups. The somatotype patterns were consistent across both groups. Although the differences between Aymara and non-Aymara children were not statistically significant, the Aymara group showed slightly higher levels of overweight and obesity. Further research with a larger sample size is needed to confirm these results and identify potential trends. The objective of this study was to describe the anthropometric profile, cardiorespiratory capacity and lung function in a high-performance Chilean triathlete ranked first in the national ranking. For this, the body composition profile proposed by Kerr, the somatotype according to Carter and Heath, lung volumes with spirometry according to the criteria of the ATS/ERS, the maximum dynamic inspiratory strength (S-index), the maximum inspiratory flow (FMI) and the maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) with a treadmill cardiopulmonary exercise test were evaluated. The results showed 50.30% (30.28 kg) of muscle tissue, 21.46% (12.92 kg) of adipose tissue, a musculoskeletal index of 4.4, and a balanced mesomorphic somatotype (ENDO 2.0 - MESO 5.1 - ECTO 2.3). The VO2max was 77 ml/kg/min, the S-Index was 189 cmH2O, the FIM was 10.1 l/sec, the FEV1 was 4.08 l, maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) was 153 l and a maximum expiratory flow (FEM) of 584 l. In conclusion, the triathlete has a high level of muscle tissue and optimal percentage of subcutaneous body fat with a balanced physical form towards the muscle component. An outstanding cardiorespiratory capacity, inspiratory strength and lung function represents a great adaptation to the endurance tests that make up triathlon, especially swimming on inspiratory strength. Artistic swimming is a sport that requires combination of aerobic and anaerobic power. There is little data in the literature on the anaerobic capacity of synchronized swimmers. This study aimed to track the observed changes in the anthropometric and anaerobic parameters among young female synchronized swimmers over a one-year period. The study included 9 female artistic swimmers with average values for age 11 ± 2 years, height 148.2 ± 11.1 cm and weight 39.5 ± 9.2 kg at the initial measurement. Measurements were conducted twice within a period of 1 year. The measurements take place in late April, before the participation of the athletes in important key competitions. Body composition assessment, somatotyping, Wingate and Sargent test were performed. Results indicated an increase in the body mass index over the year, attributed to enhanced muscle mass as a result of from training. Their somatotype varied little in the two measurements, but the variations were minor, a statistically insignificant decrease in the mesomorphic component and an increase in the ectomorphic component shows that as a result of synchronized swimming training, female athletes form suggested the formation of a characteristic sports somatotype. Maximum power of the studied group of artistic swimmers progressively increased over the study period and after 12 months was significantly higher than at the beginning of the study. A statistically significant difference between two measurements was observed in vertical jump and calculated peak power (Wilcoxon signed rank test, P value = 0.0039 and P value = 0.0039, respectively). These results are further evidence that finding underscore the profound impact of artistic swimming training has a strong impact on increasing the anaerobic capacity of athletes. Tracking the anthropometric and anaerobic characteristics enables the analysis of changes in artistic swimming athletes allows for the analysis of their changes. Targeted training guided by these observations can contribute to the improvement of specific qualities, in the case of desired changes in body composition and anaerobic capacity. This research investigated the differences in the anthropometric and morphological characteristics of elite male cricket bowlers and batters over time. A systematic review was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) guidelines, between September 2021 and October 2022. A literature search was carried out on three main databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and EBSCOhost. This was based on keywords and several inclusion and exclusion criteria. A quality assessment was carried out using the evaluation criteria for quantitative investigations focusing on the problem statement, design of methods, participant characteristics, outcome measures, sample size, analytical methodology, estimation of variance, reporting of results, and overall conclusions, to assess manuscript quality. Data were presented as mean ± SD where appropriate. Fifty-two papers matched all criteria and specific data from each was used for the systematic review. The most common measures investigated were stature, mass, and percentage of body fat. Elite bowlers were found to be significantly (p < 0.001; ES = 1.29) heavier (83.54 ± 4.42 kg vs 79.02 ± 4.26 kg) and significantly taller (p < 0.01; ES = 1.03) (185.64 ± 3.48 cm vs 181.23 ± 2.57 cm) than batters. A strong, positive and significant (p < 0.05) correlation (R2 = 0.77) was shown for batters between stature and time (years) (1987: 179.80 cm; 2021: 183.00 cm). Research on the anthropometrical and morphological characteristics comparing elite cricket bowlers and batters over time is limited. Further inquiry is needed to quantify the effect of these different traits on batting and bowling performance. This is important for player selection, talent identification, and program design. It has been found that anthropometric swimming performance factors may be related to and affect swimming performance. In light of this, the study's objective was to examine the association between certain motoric and anthropometric traits and 25-meter freestyle swimming performance results. A total of 16 male swimming students from Yozgat Bozok University's Faculty of Sport Sciences (age: 21.75±1.23 years; weight: 78.29±13.04 kg; height: 177±5.44 cm; body fat percentage: 17±7.5 %) took part in the study as volunteers. Height, body mass, skinfold thickness, circumference measurements (biceps in flexion, calf), diameter measurements (humerus epicondyle, femur epicondyle), static flexibility measurements (shoulder flexion, trunk-neck extension, ankle extension), and strength measurements (leg strength, back strength) were carried out to assess the anthropometric measurements of swimming students. In a semi-Olympic swimming pool, short-course freestyle scores of swimming students were recorded. The data appeared to have a normal distribution after the skewness and kurtosis tests, so the Pearson Correlation test was used to look at the correlation between 25-meter freestyle swimming levels and other characteristics. It was discovered that there was no statistically significant correlation between static flexibility and strength tests and 25-meter freestyle swimming performance results, but there was a negative and statistically significant correlation between swimming performance results of swimming students and mesomorph variables (r=-0.529, p=0.035). The aim of our study was to evaluate the anthropometric features used in the determination of somatotypes of patients with rotator cuff tears (RCT) and the condition before and after physiotherapy. In our study, 84 patients (43 female, 41 male) who were admitted to Tekirdağ State Hospital in 2020-2021 and diagnosed with RCT were included. Participants were grouped and evaluated in terms of age and gender. Visual analog scale (VAS) scoring for pain, Western Ontario Rotator Cuff (WORC) index, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), and Quick Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) scores for shoulder function and range of motion (ROM) values were measured. The Heath-Carter method was used for somatotype determination. Conventional physical therapy was applied to patients. 64 (76.2%) patients had endomorph-mesomorph, 14 (17%) had mesomorph-endomorph, 4 (5%) had mesomorph-endomorph, 1 (1%) had balanced mesomorph and 1 (1%) had ectomorph-endomorph somatotype. 71.4% of the participants younger than 45 years of age and 50% of those between 45 and 55 had partial tears; 80% of those between 56 and 65 and 76.5% of those older than 65 had a complete tear. Of the patients, 53.3% had cardiovascular diseases, 41.3% had problems with the digestive system, 25% had diabetes, and 24% had problems with the musculoskeletal system. The presence of RCT in the non-dominant shoulder was detected in 33.5% of the patients. There were statistically significant differences between the median values of VAS, Quick DASH, WORC, SPADI, and ROM before and after physical therapy. Regardless of gender, RCT patients had predominantly mesomorphic body types. Individuals with mesomorphic body types are more likely to have RCT. The presence of full-thickness tears was found to be closely related to advanced age. Physiotherapy has been proven to be beneficial for RCT patients in our study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
