Purpose: To assess and compare the salivary pH reversal phenomenon and calcium concentration in subjects consuming paneer and cheese after an acidogenic challenge and also to compare the salivary pH measurements using pH strips and a portable pen-type pH meter.Material and Methods: Sixty caries free undergraduate students were randomly selected and divided into two group: 1. paneer; 2. cheese. After determining the resting salivary pH using pH strips and a pen-type pH meter, participants were subjected to an acidogenic challenge (10% sucrose). Following consumption of test foods (10-gram cubes), salivary pH was measured at intervals of 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 min to record the time taken for the salivary pH to return to baseline. Colorimetric salivary calcium concentration was estimated (Biochemical Analyzer) at baseline and after 60 min of test food consumption. The statistical tests used were Shapiro-Wilk's test for normality, repeated measures ANOVA, and the independent t-test.Results: Test meals reversed the fall in pH after acidogenic challenge starting at 5 min and returning to baseline values after 30 min in both groups (p = 1.000). Colorimetric estimates showed higher salivary calcium concentrations with paneer (p < 0.001). The pen-type pH meter showed superior efficiency in terms of time (p < 0.001) compared to pH strips.Conclusion: The salivary pH reversal phenomenon was evident after consumption of both paneer and cheese following the acidogenic challenge. To assess and compare the effect of herbal and fluoride mouth rinses on Streptococcus mutans count and glucan synthesis by Streptococcus mutans and dental caries, a parallel group placebo controlled randomized trial was conducted among 240 schoolchildren (12–15 years old). Participants were randomly divided and allocated into Group I (0.2% fluoride group), Group II (herbal group), and Group III (placebo group). All received 10 ml of respective mouth rinses every fortnight for a period of one year. Intergroup and intragroup comparison were done for Streptococcus mutans count and glucan synthesis by Streptococcus mutans and dental caries. Streptococcus mutans count showed a statistically significant difference between Group I and Group III (p=0.035) and also between Group II and Group III (p=0.039). Glucan concentration levels showed a statistically significant difference (p=0.024) between Group II and Group III at 12th month. Mean DMF scores showed no statistical difference between the three groups (p=0.139). No difference in the level of significance was seen in the intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis. The present study showed that both herbal and fluoride mouth rinses, when used fortnightly, were equally effective and could be recommended for use in school-based health education program to control dental caries. Background: Orthodontic treatment is commonly associated with pain and discomfort, impacting patient experience and treatment compliance. Understanding the factors influencing pain perception is crucial for improving pain management strategies during orthodontic adjustments., Methods: Pain levels were assessed using a " Visual Analog Scale (VAS)" before and after each adjustment session. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted immediately post-adjustment. Statistical analyses were performed to compare mean pain scores before and after adjustments, and thematic analysis was conducted to identify common themes in qualitative data., Results: Quantitative analysis revealed a significant increase in mean pain scores following orthodontic adjustments ( P < 0.001). Qualitative analysis identified themes related to pain experiences, including anticipation of discomfort, adaptation over time, and coping strategies employed by patients., Conclusion: Orthodontic adjustments induce varying levels of pain and discomfort among patients. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to evaluate patient satisfaction and long-term consequences after temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc replacement surgery in a tertiary care environment., Methods: 500 patients who had TMJ disc replacement surgery at a tertiary care facility between 2010 and 2015 were the subject of a retrospective investigation. Pre-operative clinical features, demographic information, and intraoperative information were gathered. Standardized measurements were used to evaluate functional results, pain levels, and patient-reported outcomes. Descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and significance set at P < 0.05 were all used in the statistical analysis., Results: There were notable improvements in functional outcomes, with a mean increase in lateral excursion from 8.7 mm to 12.6 mm ( P < 0.001) and maximal incisal opening from 30.5 mm to 40.2 mm ( P < 0.001). The pain level was found to have greatly diminished, as evidenced by the VAS scores falling from 7.8 to 3.2 ( P < 0.001). The Jaw Function Limitation Scale scores (42.6 to 21.8, P < 0.001) and patient-reported outcome measures scores (58.3 to 76.5, P < 0.001) exhibited significant increases in patient-reported outcomes., Conclusion: In conclusion, tertiary care TMJ disc replacement surgery shows positive long-term outcomes, such as enhanced jaw function, less discomfort, and high patient satisfaction. Background: Dental implants are an effective treatment option for edentulism, which poses a substantial barrier to oral health. The quality of the bone at the implant site may have an impact on the outcome of implant therapy. The purpose of this retrospective investigation was to assess implant survival rates and problems in individuals who were edentulous and had varying forms of bone., Methods: Patients who were edentulous and had dental implants placed between 2020 and 2022 were included. Preoperative radiographic examination was used to establish the kind of bone, which was then used to analyze implant survival rates and problems. A statistical study was carried out to compare the results between various bone kinds., Findings: The analysis comprised 225 edentulous patients in total. The implant survival rates varied according to the kind of bone; kind 1 bone had the highest survival rate (94.0%), while Type 4 bone had the lowest (75.0%). As bone quality declined, so did the incidence of complications such as peri-implantitis, implant movement, and implant breakage., Conclusion: In conclusion, this study emphasizes how important bone type is for implant survival rates and issues in edentulous individuals. Background: Wisdom tooth extraction often requires various surgical techniques due to differences in tooth position, root morphology, and patient characteristics. This research aims to compare traditional surgical extraction with minimally invasive techniques such as piezo surgery and laser-assisted extraction, as well as extraction with the aid of 3D imaging and navigation systems., Methods: Patients requiring wisdom tooth extraction were randomly assigned to one of the surgical technique groups. Preoperative imaging assessed tooth position and root morphology. Intraoperative variables and postoperative outcomes were recorded, including pain levels, swelling, and healing time. Patient-reported outcomes were assessed using standardized questionnaires., Results: Piezo surgery, 3D imaging, and navigation-guided extraction techniques demonstrated a shorter mean duration of surgery and lower incidence of intraoperative complications compared to traditional extraction and laser-assisted extraction. Postoperative outcomes were superior in the 3D imaging and navigation-guided extraction group, with lower pain scores, reduced swelling, and faster healing time., Conclusion: Advanced imaging-guided techniques, particularly 3D imaging and navigation-guided extraction, offer significant benefits for patients undergoing wisdom tooth extraction by improving surgical precision, minimizing complications, and enhancing postoperative outcomes. Background: Socioeconomic variables continue to play a major role in the global persistence of dental health inequities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and dental health outcomes at a tertiary-care facility over a 10-year period., Methods: Patient demographics, socioeconomic factors, and dental health outcomes were analyzed retrospectively from dental health records. To determine the relationships between socioeconomic characteristics and disparities in oral health, statistical studies were carried out., Results: Tooth cavities and untreated dental problems were more common in people with lower incomes and educational levels. There were notable differences in oral health outcomes between various socioeconomic groups., Conclusion: In conclusion, this research shows that there is a persistent relationship at a tertiary-care facility between socioeconomic characteristics and disparities in oral health.
