Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is one of the blood cancers responsible for 80% of children's leukemia and is also the most common malignancy in patients aged under 14 years (frequency of 23% among all types of cancers). Regarding the importance of identifying clinical symptoms to diagnose the disease in the early stages, this study is conducted to investigate the symptoms at diagnosis in ALL children. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 350 patients aged under 14, referring to four hospitals of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences as reference hospitals in Southern Iran, participated between 2013 and 2019. Their information was collected using patients' records, and the data were analyzed using SPSS version16. Results: Based on the findings of this study, the first clinical manifestations of the disease happened suddenly and acute, occurring within a few days to a maximum of 6 weeks before diagnosis. Fever (70%) and hepatomegaly (60%) were the most common signs and symptoms in patients. However, a significant percentage of ALL patients referred with non-specific symptoms. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the importance of recognizing common and unusual signs and symptoms based on a complete and thorough history taking and accurate physical examination as well as rare symptoms that may be ignored or misdiagnosed by physicians. Background: Self-disinfecting impression materials would reduce time and energy needed for impression disinfecting process in clinic. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of alginate mixed with nanosilver solution at a concentration of 500 ppm and 1000 ppm on common oral microorganisms and assess changes in working time, setting time, and surface detail reproduction. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, three groups were assigned. The first group was alginate, the second group was alginate mixed with 500 ppm nanosilver, and the third group was alginate mixed with 1000 ppm nanosilver. Antimicrobial effect on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans was studied using direct contact test in each group (n = 10). Working time (n = 10), setting time (n = 10), and surface detail reproduction (n = 10) were evaluated separately using the ISO 21563 protocol. Descriptive tables were used to describe the data. Kruskal–Wallis test used to determine significant differences in the number of colonies was counted in antimicrobial test (α = 0.05). Results: No adverse effects observed in working time, setting time, and surface detail reproduction of alginate impressions. Alginate mixed with silver nanoparticles showed no inhibitory effect on S. aureus and C. albicans, but the number of E. coli colonies were counted in the group 1000 ppm was significantly lower than 500 ppm (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Antimicrobial effect of alginate mixed with silver nanoparticles is not clinically indicated. Nevertheless, its physical features did not change significantly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study phase- pure new spinel structure, Mn0.5Cu0.5Cr2O4 was prepared by hydrothermal method successfully and the degradation of Malachite green as an organic pollutant was investigated and compared with Cr2O4. Purification of obtained nanoparticles was measured by using X-ray diffraction method (XRD) in which crystal structure and the structural properties were studied by using X'Pert package and Fullprof program. Also, the morphology of obtained materials was modified by field-effect scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). These materials were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. UV-vis diffuse reflectance analysis was done for determination of band gape which evaluated 1.37eV. The photocatalytic application of synthesized materials was evaluated by the degradation of malachite green (MG) in the presence of H2O2 that were assessed by UV-vis spectroscopy analysis. The comparison study of photocatalytic result reviled that Mn0.5Cu0.5Cr2O4 has higher activity than Cr2O4. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
