BACKGROUNDSunitinib, a vascular endothelial growth factor pathway inhibitor, is an effectivetreatment for metastatic renal-cell carcinoma. We sought to determine the efficacyand safety of sunitinib in patients with locoregional renal-cell carcinoma athigh risk for tumor recurrence after nephrectomy.METHODSIn this randomized, double-blind, phase 3 trial, we assigned 615 patients withlocoregional, high-risk clear-cell renal-cell carcinoma to receive either sunitinib(50 mg per day) or placebo on a 4-weeks-on, 2-weeks-off schedule for 1 year oruntil disease recurrence, unacceptable toxicity, or consent withdrawal. The primaryend point was disease-free survival, according to blinded independent central review.Secondary end points included investigator-assessed disease-free survival,overall survival, and safety.RESULTSThe median duration of disease-free survival was 6.8 years (95% confidence interval[CI], 5.8 to not reached) in the sunitinib group and 5.6 years (95% CI, 3.8 to6.6) in the placebo group (hazard ratio, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.59 to 0.98; P=0.03). Overallsurvival data were not mature at the time of data cutoff. Dose reductions becauseof adverse events were more frequent in the sunitinib group than in theplacebo group (34.3% vs. 2%), as were dose interruptions (46.4% vs. 13.2%) anddiscontinuations (28.1% vs. 5.6%). Grade 3 or 4 adverse events were more frequentin the sunitinib group (48.4% for grade 3 events and 12.1% for grade 4 events)than in the placebo group (15.8% and 3.6%, respectively). There was a similarincidence of serious adverse events in the two groups (21.9% for sunitinib vs.17.1% for placebo); no deaths were attributed to toxic effects.CONCLUSIONSAmong patients with locoregional clear-cell renal-cell carcinoma at high risk fortumor recurrence after nephrectomy, the median duration of disease-free survivalwas significantly longer in the sunitinib group than in the placebo group, at a costof a higher rate of toxic events. An exhaustive study of the phase diagram of binary system Li2SO4-Na2SO4 is presented. Phase diagram was determined using thermo-X-ray diffraction in powder samples and calorimetry ATD. A new phase with formula Li2-xNaxSO4 has been obtained, with 1 ≤ x ≤ 1.22. The crystal structure of β-LiNaSO4 was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This study shows that the crystals usually become twinned when the growth is by solution; which explains the poor spontaneous polarization. The Raman dispersion of Li2SO4, Na2SO4 and LiNaSO4 compounds is explained from the structural data. The measurements have been made at different heating and cooling rate.Se presenta un estudio exhaustivo del diagrama de fase del sistema binario Li2SO4-Na2SO4. El diagrama de fases se determinó mediante termo-difractometría de rayos-X en muestras de polvo y calorimetría ATD. Se obtiene una nueva fase de fórmula Li2-xNaxSO4, con 1 ≤ x ≤ 1.22. La estructura cristalina de β-LiNaSO4 se determinó por difracción de rayos-X sobre un monocristal. Este estudio muestra que los cristales usualmente se maclan cuando el crecimiento es por solución, lo cual explica la baja polarización espontánea. Se explica la dispersión Raman de los compuestos Li2SO4, Na2SO4 y LiNaSO4, a partir de los datos estructurales. Las medidas experimentales se han efectuado a diferentes velocidades de calentamiento y enfriamiento.

The preparation and characterization of mixed crystals with formula Li(NH4)1-xKxSO4 has been carried out. The characterization was by thermal analysis (DSC and ATD), X-ray diffraction on powder and single crystal samples at variable temperature and Raman spectroscopy at variable temperature. Two type of phases have been obtained: A solid solution with 0.94 < x < 1, with the same phases to those observed in the LiKSO4, but new phases, which are not shown by the LiKSO4, can be obtained according to the crystallization process. The second type of compounds have the formula Li(NH4)0.53K0.47SO4, with an hexagonal structure (a ≈ 3 aLiKSO4). This compound have a phase transition at 463K.En este trabajo se estudia la preparación y caracterización de las fases de los cristales mixtos de fórmula Li(NH4)1-xKxSO4. La caracterización se ha efectuado por análisis térmico con DSC y ATD, difracción de rayos-X sobre polvo cristalino con temperatura variable, difracción de rayos-X sobre muestra monocristalina a temperatura variable a fin de determina su estructura cristalina y por espectroscopia Raman a temperatura variable. Se han obtenido dos tipos de fases. Una solución sólida con 0.94 < x < 1 que presenta los mismos tipos estructurales que el LiKSO4, pero según el método de cristalización pueden aparecer nuevas fases que no presenta el LiKSO4. El segundo tipo de compuesto tiene por fórmula Li(NH4)0.53K0.47SO4, el cual presenta una estructura hexagonal con parámetro a ≈ 3 aLiKSO4. Este compuesto tiene por encima de la temperatura ambiente una sola transición a 463K.

Item does not contain fulltext New complexes with 5(3)-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3(5)-methylpyrazole (H(2)phpz), [Co-2(H(2)phpz)(Hphpz)(2)(phpz)(2)](.)3CH(3)CN (1), [Ni(Hphpz)(2)] (2) and [Cu(HphpZ)(2)] (3), were synthesized and structurally characterized. The ligand coordinates in the form of 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-5-methylpyrazole in all cases, except for one ligand in the Co-III complex, where it coordinates in the 5-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methylpyrazole mode. Crystallographic analysis revealed that 1 contains two chemically and crystallographically distinct cobalt(III) ions triply bridged by one phenoxide and two pyrazolate groups, giving rise to a [Co-2(N-N)(2)O] core with a (CoCo)-Co-... distance of 3.154 angstrom. Additionally, the H(2)phpz ligand shows four different coordination modes with the metal ions, demonstrating its versatility. The dinuclear unit of 1 is stabilized by strong intramolecular N-(HO)-O-... hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the phenol oxygen atom of the H(2)phpz ligand and the N-H functionality of the pyrazole ring. The crystal structure of the isomorphous complexes 2 and 3 reveals the presence of centrosymmetric mononuclear units with the MN2O2 [M = Ni-II (2), Cu-II (3)] chromophore displaying a slightly distorted square-planar geometry. The mononuclear structures of 2 and 3 are further stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds established between the acid N-H group as donor and the phenoxide group of the H(2)phpz ligand as acceptor.
