The joint involvement of family and society in elderly care is a crucial factor in improving the health status of older adults and narrowing health disparities, which are essential for achieving sustainable development goals. However, the interactions between these entities and their mechanisms of influence require further investigation. By utilizing data from the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS) spanning 2014 to 2016 and employing the Kakwani index of individual relative deprivation in conjunction with a two-way fixed-effects model for unbalanced panel data, in this study, we investigated the mechanisms through which social elderly care security and familial support influence health inequalities among the elderly. The findings reveal that only senior benefits (=−0.009, p < 0.05) significantly mitigate relative health deprivation in this population. Enrollment in pension insurance amplifies the sense of relative health deprivation among the elderly, but this effect becomes insignificant after controlling for temporal effects. Both economic support (=−0.002, p < 0.05) and emotional support (=−0.004, p < 0.01) from offspring significantly reduce the level of relative health deprivation among the elderly. Mechanism testing results indicate that individual attitudes towards aging serve as a mediator in the relationship between relative health deprivation and preferential treatment, economic support, and emotional support. The results of further heterogeneity tests suggest that the impact of various elderly support models on relative health deprivation differs by age, gender, and residential area.These findings confirm that support from both society and family plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable health outcomes for the elderly. Consequently, it is recommended to enhance the social elderly care security system, bolster familial support functions, cultivate positive individual attitudes towards aging, and address health inequalities among the elderly in accordance with their distinct characteristics, thereby improving their quality of life and sense of fulfillment, and contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development. The United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development has induced the empirics to find the factors that can contribute to sustainable development. However, limited empirical evidence has estimated the impact of forest trade, bioenergy, and economic policy uncertainty on sustainable development. This study fills the gap by analyzing the impact of forest trade, bioenergy, and economic policy uncertainty on sustainable development in China and the USA using the ARDL and QARDL approaches. The findings of the ARDL model suggest that forest trade helps boost both short- and long-run sustainable development in China and the USA, while bioenergy fosters sustainable development in the short and long run only in China and in the USA, bioenergy improves sustainable development only in the long run. In contrast, economic policy uncertainty hurts sustainable development in the short and long run in China, while in the USA, only the long-run negative association between the two variables is observed. Thus, policymakers in China and the USA need to focus on enhancing trade in forest products, fostering bioenergy generation, and reducing uncertainties in economic policy to promote sustainable development. Environmental sustainability is the primary objective of policymakers all around the globe. The most viable option to deal with this situation is to increase the use of renewable energy sources, particularly bioenergy, a carbon-neutral energy source. Trading activities in clean and green products can also enhance environmental performance. The literature on the impact of bioenergy and trade in environmental goods on ecological sustainability is growing. However, the empirical literature has not shed light on the impact of forest products trade (FPT) and rural bioenergy on environmental sustainability, leaving a significant gap in the literature. To address this gap, this analysis examines the impact of FPT and rural bioenergy on environmental sustainability using 23 economies from 2000 to 2022. Empirical estimates of the model are obtained by applying several estimation techniques, such as fixed effects (FE), random effects (RE), two-stage least squares (2SLS), generalized method of moments (GMM), and cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lag (CS-ARDL). The findings confirm that FPT and rural bioenergy reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to environmental sustainability. The estimates of control variables of economic growth, industrialization, technological development, urbanization, and financial development are positively significant, confirming that these factors increase carbon footprints and thus hurt environmental sustainability. In contrast, political stability negatively impacts carbon emissions and thus promotes environmental sustainability. The BCIST economies have reinforced their identity as an emerging power in the fields of environmental technology and green transportation. The green transport sector undoubtedly plays an important role in green growth but also reduces CO2 emissions. The present study's objective is to examine the impact of transportation taxes on CO2 emissions in a comparative setting for BCIST economies in periods ranging from 1991 to 2019 by employing the nonlinear ARDL approach. The finding shows that transportation taxes are also a vital asymmetric determinant of CO2 emissions. An upsurge in transportation taxes lowers CO2 emissions in China, India, South Africa, and Turkey, while a decrease in transportation taxes intensifies carbon emissions in Brazil, China, and India in the long term. More transportation taxes limit CO2 emissions in South Africa as well as China in the short run. Watershed water environment governance has always been a research hotspot in the field of transboundary governance. Based on evolutionary game theory, the regional governments of East Dongting Lake, West Dongting Lake and South Dongting Lake were taken as participants to construct a tripartite game model, and the game evolution strategies under unconstrained and constrained conditions were explored respectively, so as to analyze the influencing factors of the construction of synergistic mechanism of water environment governance in Dongting Lake Basin. The results show that: (1) Under the unconstrained condition, the stable strategy of the evolutionary game is “two parties govern, one party does not govern”. However, without intervention of external restraint measures for a long time, the players keep learning and improving according to the game results, and the final synergy mechanism cannot be achieved. (2) Under constraint conditions, the composition of synergistic mechanism mainly depends on the size of ecological compensation and punishment given by the superior government and the duration of constraint by the superior government.
