BACKGROUND: Gallbladder disease is known to affect a substantial number of people throughout the world. In India, the disease prevalence is on the rise, largely attributable to dietary & lifestyle changes, thus causing a signicant disease burden. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the varied histological manifestations of gallbladder pathology and their association with cholelithiasis. MATERIALS & METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted in the department of pathology, Kilpauk medical college from January 2018 to December 2018. The clinical data and the histopathological changes were evaluated. RESULTS: Of the 156 cases which were studied, 120 cases (77%) had gallstones. The mean age was 47 years. Females had a slight preponderance for gallbladder diseases with the Male: Female ratio being 1:2. 138 cases (89.8%) were diagnosed as chronic cholecystitis. 3 cases were diagnosed to have invasive malignancies. CONCLUSION: A diverse spectrum of diseases affect the gallbladder encompassing inammatory conditions, parasitic infections, pseudoneoplastic lesions and neoplasms. Routine cholecystectomy specimens should be evaluated meticulously as incidental ndings and diagnosis can be transformative.

INTRODUCTION: Polyps are projections or elevations from the surface of mucosa. Histopathological examination of polyps is very important because of the risk of malignancy associated with certain polyps. The aim of this study is to analyse spectrum of polyps in different locations of Gastrointestinal tract. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive study conducted in Department of Pathology, Government Kilpauk Medical College for a period of 3yrs. 156 cases were included. Polyps were analysed based on age, sex, location, endoscopic appearance and histologic findings. RESULTS: Gastrointestinal polyps are most common in males(61.5%) and in age group of 46.60years(37.8%). Most of the polyps are sessile(73.1%) and occur in the large intestine(41.6%). The most frequent polyps based on locations are Squamous papilloma in esophagus , hyperplastic polyp in stomach, inflammatory polyp in small intestine and adenomatous polyp in large intestine. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The results were compared with other similar studies. Most of the study results correlated with study by Gurung P et al. Esophageal polyps correlated with study by Patit et al. Inflammatory polyps are the predominant Sessile polyps, Hyperplastic polyps are the predominant diminutive polyp and adenomatous polyps are the predominant pedunculated polyps. This study provides information regarding most frequent polyps based on locations and gross appearance and helps to find the changing trends in the incidence of polyps.

Introduction: Burns constitute an important health concern all over the world. The main aim of burns treatment is reducing morbidity and mortality. Platelet count was proved to be an important prognostic index in burns. The main aim of this study is to find the significance of other Platelet indices in burns patient. Methods: This study was conducted in a Tertiary care Hospital in Chennai for a sample size of 143 burns patients. Patients were divided into two groups based on the Total burn surface area (Group A with 30% Total Burn Surface area). Normal persons with similar ages are taken as Control. Platelet indices were analysed for these patients on the day of admission and on the fourth day of admission using Sysmex 5-part analyser. BAUX score was also calculated for the Burns patient. The results were compared between platelet indices, clinical parameters and Baux score among different groups. Results: The results of platelet indices between group A, group B and control group were compared. In group A, no significant change in platelet indices was observed. But in group B, the mean value of Platelet count decreases from 217 on the day admission to 164 on the fourth day of admission and the Mean Platelet Volume increases from 9.88 on the day of admission to 10.54 on the fourth day of admission. Mean Platelet Volume also correlates linearly with BAUX score. Conclusion: BAUX score is a prognostic scoring system in which higher value indicates poorer prognosis. MPV correlates linearly with BAUX score which indicates raising MPV act as poor prognostic factor. Platelet indices which can be analyzed with simple automated analyser can act as important prognostic factor in burns patient which helps in deciding appropriate treatment at appropriate time.

Introduction: Fetal death rate and Perinatal Mortality rate are important indicators of a country’s Health care system. Stillbirth forms a prime contributing factor in deciding these rates. But the causes of Stillbirth and autopsy findings associated with Stillbirth remains a gray zone. The aim of this study is to analyse the pathological autopsy findings associated with spontaneously expelled stillbirth babies and placenta. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted in Department of Pathology, Govt. Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai for a period of 1 and half years. 29 Stillborn cases were received in our department during this period. Fetal autopsy was done in these cases by using a standard protocol. The external, internal examination findings and histopathological findings of both fetus and Placenta were analysed and compared with the Antenatal clinical findings. Results: Stillbirth is more common in the third trimester constituting 72.4% cases and peaks at 27-30 weeks of gestation. Placental pathology is more frequently associated with stillbirth with 44.8% followed by Fetal causes with 34.5% and maternal causes identified in 6.9% cases. In the second trimester stillbirths fetal causes are common and in third trimester placental pathologies were common. Among the fetal causes, congenital anamolies are seen in all cases with CNS and Kidney anamolies being the commonest. Among the Placental causes, placental infarct is seen in most of the cases. In 13.8% cases, no pathology identified even after complete autopsy. Conclusion: A Complete schematic autopsy of fetus and placenta along with a good knowledge and correlation of pathological and clinical findings help in arriving at a diagnosis of cause of fetal demise. A correct diagnosis of the cause of stillbirth can alleviate parents worries and helps the clinician in deciding the counselling, care and management of future pregnancies.
