Natural products and their structural analogs are the main sources of pharmacotherapy. Various Aglaia species have been investigated since the 1960s for their phytochemical constituents and biological properties. This research focuses on isolating the terpenoid group from Aglaia shawiana, to provide a basis for further research to identify lead compounds for drug development. The hexane extract of Aglaia shawiana leaves was isolated using vacuum liquid chromatography and gravity column chromatography, employing solvents with varying polarities. The isolation process yielded two compounds: compound 1 and compound 2. A total of 15 mg of a pure isolate was obtained for compound 1, and 4.5 mg for compound 2. Their structures were characterized using 1D NMR (¹H, 13C, DEPT 135) and 2D NMR (HMQC, HMBC, 1H-1H COSY) and by comparing them with previously reported spectral data. It was concluded that compound 1 has the molecular formula C30H50O3, is a triterpenoid type cycloartane, and is named cycloartan-3β,29-diol-24-one, while compound 2 has the molecular formula C30H52O, is a steroid compound, and is named 23a-homostigmast-5en-3β-ol. These compounds were discovered for the first time in this species.

ABSTRACT. Sesquiterpenoids are a class of terpenoid compounds with a remarkable diversity of structures and biological activities. Sesquiterpenoids are primarily found in higher plants, such as the Meliaceae family's Aglaia genus. Aglaia cucullata is a species of Aglaia that is still rarely explored and can potentially contain sesquiterpenoid compounds with cytotoxic activity. Hence, the research intended to isolate sesquiterpenoids from the n-hexane extract of A. cucullata stem bark and evaluate their cytotoxic effect against A549 lung cancer cells. Compounds 1 and 2 were isolated and purified from n-hexane extracts utilizing various chromatographic techniques. The structure of compounds 1 and 2 was determined by analyzing various spectroscopic methods (IR, MS, and NMR) and comparing them to previously reported spectral data. Compound 1 was identified as an isodaucane-type sesquiterpenoid, 10-hydroxy-6,10-epoxy-7(14)-isodaucane, and was first reported in Meliaceae family. Compound 2 was confirmed as an eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoid, eudesm-4(15)-ene-1β,6α-dihydroxy, and was first reported in Aglaia cucullata. Cytotoxic activity of 1 and 2 were investigated in vitro against A549 lung cancer cells using the PrestoBlue assay and resulted in inactive and low cytotoxicity with IC50 values of 292.77 and 90.55 μM, respectively. Sesquiterpenoids belong to a group of terpenoid compounds with interesting structures that are abundant in natural products especially in higher plants. Sesquiterpenoids have a wide variety of bioactivities with great potential cytotoxic activity. The species Dysoxylum excelsum belongs to the Meliaceae family known as higher plant, but only a few sesquiterpenoids have been reported particularly for their cytotoxic activity. Therefore, this research aims to isolate and elucidate the sesquiterpenoids structure from D. excelsum stem bark and examines their cytotoxicity against HeLa cervical cancer cells. Through various column chromatography separations, four known sesquiterpenes namely β-caryophyllene oxide (1), caryophyllenol II (2), humulene dioxide A (3), and guai-6-en-10β-ol (4) were acquired from the n-hexane extract. Compounds 1-4 were isolated for the first time from D. excelsum species. The sesquiterpenoid structures were elucidated according to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Infrared, and HR-TOF-MS analysis. The cytotoxicity compounds 1-4 was determined against HeLa cervical cancer cells by examination with the PrestoBlue method and compound 3 exhibited the most potent cytotoxicity with an IC50 value of 160.74 µM. Ulva Lactuca, commonly known as sea lettuce, is a green seaweed species that has attracted significant attention due to its remarkable potential as a prolific source of bioactive compounds. This comprehensive review explores the various extraction techniques harnessed to isolate these bioactive compounds from Ulva Lactuca while shedding light on the diverse health applications these compounds encompass. Within the review, considerable emphasis is placed on detailing the plethora of bioactive compounds inherent to Ulva Lactuca, spanning polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, fatty acids, pigments, minerals, and vitamins. Furthermore, a comprehensive analysis of the potential health benefits of these bioactive constituents is provided, encompassing their roles in antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory properties, cardiovascular health, neuroprotection, and skin health enhancement. Addressing the broader scope of this review, significant attention is given to the challenges that currently permeate this field of research, including issues related to sustainability, standardization of extraction processes, formulation strategies, and avenues for further exploration. This examination culminates in the realization that Ulva Lactuca is a promising and versatile reservoir of bioactive ingredients, potentially revolutionising various industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Consequently, the future promises exciting prospects for the continued exploration and exploitation of Ulva Lactuca's wealth of bioactive compounds.

Aglaia foveolata Pannell (A. foveolata) is a type of plant that has many benefits, including the skin, leaves, roots, and seeds as medicinal ingredients. The potential of this plant is inseparable from the content of various bioactive compounds. This study aims to isolate, characterize the active compound from the stem bark of A. foveolata and test its activity as an antioxidant with the ABTS method, cytotoxic (MCF-7 cancer cells) with the MTT method, and antibacterial (bacterial strains ATCC and MDR) with the MIC. There are four isolated compounds obtained, namely (1) 17,24-epoxy-25-hydroxybaccharan-3-one, (2) β-stigmasterol glucoside, (3) Eichlerianic acid, and (4) 17,24-epoxy-25 -hydroxy-3- oxobaccharan-21-oic acid, which is a class of triterpenoid and steroid compounds. The best activity as an antioxidant was compound 3 (25.68 µg/mL); cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cells namely compound 4 (94.59 µg/mL); antibacterial activity against ATCC strains: (1) P. aeruginosa namely compound 3 (29.4 µg/mL), (2) E. coli, (3) S. aureus, (4) B. subtilis for compounds 1, 2, and 4 have the same activity (62.5 µg/mL) while compound 3 was not active; MDR bacterial strains: (1) P. aeruginosa namely compound 4 (62.5 µg/mL), (2) E. coli namely compound 3 (62.5 µg/mL), (3) S. aureus namely compound 4 (62 .5 µg/mL), (4) B. subtilis namely compound 4 (62.5 µg/mL) and (5) K. pneumoniae namely compound 1 (125 µg/mL).

The Aglaia species, which contains triterpenoids, is the most numerous in the Meliaceae family. The A. cucullata species, of which there are only a few known examples, has received scant research attention. This investigation aims to identify triterpenoids in an n-hexane preparation of A. cucullata stem bark and evaluate their effects against the A549 lung cancer cell line. Five dammarane-type triterpenoids were isolated from the A. cucullata trunk bark, which is (1) (20S)-20-hydroxydammar-24-en-3-one, (2) cabraleone, (3) cabralealactone, (4) eichlerianic acid, and (5) (+)-fouquierol. Their chemical structures were determined using infrared, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance, as well as through data comparison of the reported compounds. Compound 1 was priorly separated from the Aglaia genus, compounds 2–4 were first isolated from the A. cucullata species, and compound 5 has been reportedly isolated from the Meliaceae family and the Aglaia genus. All substances were tested for their lethal potential against the A549 lung cancer cell type. A seco structure in the A ring of dammarane-type triterpenoid might play an important part in the lethal activity of component 4, which showed the greatest activity with an IC50 value of 32.17 µM against the A549 lung cancer cell line.

With about 120 species, Aglaia is one of the largest genera of the plant family Meliaceae (the mahogany plants). Various Aglaia species have been investigated since the 1960s for their phytochemical constituents and biological properties. This research objective was to find secondary metabolites that have activity as anti-breast cancer compounds from endemic Indonesian Aglaia, such as Aglaia angustifolia Miq. Two cholestan type steroids, stigmast-5en-3α-acetat (1), as a new steroid with α-sterochemistry of acetyl moiety at C-3 and 23a-homostigmast-5en-3β-ol (2), with unusual side chain were isolated for the first time from the stem bark of Aglaia angustifolia Miq or known as segara tree in Kalimantan. The chemical structures of two steroids were identified with spectroscopic data, including IR, NMR (1H, 13C, DEPT 135°, HMQC, HMBC, NOESY, 1H-1H COSY) and HRTOF-MS, as well as by comparing with previously reported spectral data. These two steroids were isolated for the first time from this genus. Steroids 1 and 2 were evaluated for cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells and showed weak activity with IC50 values of 829.0 and 903.0 µg/mL, respectively.

Antibody production is becoming a trend, especially during a pandemic like now, although there have been many developments in antibody production in previous research. Antigen synthesis and characterization is one of the determining factors for the success of antibody production. This research developed a method of antigen characterization using the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) method. The research conducted in these 4 stages begins with antigen synthesis, then continues with antigen characterization using NMR, then antibody production, and the last stage is antibody characterization using the Enzyme Linked ImmunoAssay (ELISA) method. The results of antigen characterization using NMR show that NAS has been perfectly conjugated with BSA and produces a NAS-BSA conjugate. This is shown by the presence of 1 methylene (CH2) olefinic at δH chemical shift of 6.27 ppm with an integral of 4 and having 1 piece of methine (CH) sp2 at δH chemical shift of 5.73 ppm with an integral of 2. NAS-BSA antigens have been shown to successfully produce antibodies. This is shown from the anti-NAS-BSA, NAS, and Acrylamide antibodies that begin to appear in the second, third and fourth boosting (respectively)

Marine environment is known as a source of potential steroids with multiple biological activities, one of which is an anticancer agent. Atactodea striata are one of the seashells distributed in Indonesia located in the Kei Islands, Southeast Maluku. During the course of our continuing search for biologically active substances from Indonesia seashells, seven steroids have been isolated from the n-hexane fraction of A. striata and they were identified as 7β-hydroxy-sitosterol (1), campesterol (2), β-sitosterol (3), cholesterol (4), 5α,8α-epidioxycholest-6-en-3-β-ol (5), 7-keto-cholesterol (6), and 7α-hydroxy-cholesterol (7). The structure was identified by spectroscopic methods including 2D NMR techniques, FTIR, HRTOFMS, and chemical shift comparison with previously reported spectral data. Compounds 1-7 were evaluated for their cytotoxic effects against MCF-7 breast cancer cells and showed weak or no anticancer activity.

The influence of pH and ozone dose, as well as ascorbic acid addition during the ozonation process, on the properties of Rice Bran Oil (RBO), was examined. The spectroscopic characteristic of RBO before and after ozonation was analysis directly, while the physicochemical property was assessed by density, viscosity, pH, iodine number, peroxide number, and acid number. With an increase in ozone dose, the carbon double bond in the RBO reduced. The primary product of the ozonation process is ozonide, and one of its by-products is 1,2,4-trioxolane, which contains a carbon single bond as a result of the ozonation reaction. According to this study, the pH 4 and ozone dose of 440 mg O3/L are the optimum parameters utilized in the RBO ozonation process. RBO's density and viscosity were 0.918 g/mL and 0.042 cP, respectively, at these conditions. Its iodine number, acid number, and peroxide number were also 3.173 g/g RBO, 2.3 mg NaOH/g RBO, and 55 mgeq/kg, respectively. Analyses of gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed the presence of 1,2,4-trioxolane. Ozone dosage is critical because greater ozone concentrations place RBO in a saturated state, making the 1,2,4-trioxolane unstable and readily destroyed, whereas lower temperatures can avoid this.

Sesquiterpenoids are derivatives of terpenoid compound that have a diverse skeleton and broad spectrum of biological activities, particularly anticancer activity. This research reported the isolation and elucidation structure of sesquiterpenoid from Chisocheton lasiocarpus stem bark, as well as their cytotoxic activity. Four sesquiterpenoid compounds, namely eudesm-4(15)-ene-1β,6β-diol (1), allo-aromadendrane-10α,14-diol (2), allo-aromadendrane-10β,14-diol (3) and guaianediol (4), were isolated for the first time from Chisocheton lasiocarpus stem bark. The chemical structure of all compounds was identified by spectroscopic analysis, including IR, MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and DEPT, and compared with previous reported spectral data. The cytotoxic activity of the isolated compounds against MCF-7 breast cancer line were examined by using the resazurin method. The results showed compound 1 shown the highest cytotoxic activity with IC50 108.08 ± 0.58 µM.

Morinda citrifolia fruit (Noni) has been used as a folk medicine in several countries. Noni possessed various pharmacological activities such as; anticancer, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antarthritic, and antioxidants. The present study evaluated pharmacognostic properties, profiling of active constituent through High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) and Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution Mass Spectrometer (LC-HRMS) run for quantitative and qualitative phytochemical analysis and determining angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor activity of Noni from three different locations. The physicochemical parameters of crude drugs and extracts met the requirement of Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopeia. Total phenol content was 2.16-3.08 mg GAE/g extract and total flavonoid content was 0.11 - 1.58 mg QE/g extract. HPTLC analysis revealed that scopoletin content in Noni was in the range of 0.44 - 0.51%. The results were also corresponding well with LC-HRMS fingerprint analysis. In addition, Noni fruit extract from Bogor potential exhibited activity in inhibiting ACE with an IC50 value of 206.26 µg/mL.

The n-hexane fraction from the stem bark of Lansium domesticum Corr. Cv. Kokosan afforded 3 sesquiterpenoids, namely eudesm-4(15),7-dien-1β-ol (1), eudesm-4(15)-ene-1β,6α-diol (2), and octahydro-4-hydroxy-3a-methyl-7-methylene-a-(1-methylethyl)-1H-indene-1-methanol (3). These three compounds were discovered in the Lansium genus for the first time. Their chemical structures were determined based on data generated from various spectroscopic methods, including one- and two-dimensional NMR, as well as mass spectroscopy. Sesquiterpenoid compounds (1-3) have also been evaluated on MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines and the compound 1 showed the strongest activity with an IC50 value of 17.97 µg/mL while compounds 2 and 3 showed moderate and weak activity with IC50 values of 121.65 and 201.57 µg/mL, respectively. The implication of the findings of these compounds is as an illustration that one of these sesquiterpenoids has potential as an anticancer with the presence of double bond which played important role in the cytotoxic activity that can be studied for new drug discovery.

Limonoid is derivatives of triterpenoid compound that have a wide variety of structures due to various ring-opening, rearrangements, and high-degree of oxidation. Limonoid is known as compounds that have wide-range of biological activities, including anticancer activity. This research was aimed to determine the chemical structure and cytotoxic activity of limonoid in the n-hexane extract of Chisocheton lasiocarpus fruit. Dried powder of C. lasiocarpus fruit was extracted using methanol followed by fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. Five azadirone-type limonoids, 6α-(acetoxy)-14β,15β-epoxyazadirone (1), dysobinin (2), 7α-acetylneotricilenone (3), 6α-O-acetyl-7-deacetylnimocinol (4), and 7α-hyroxyneotricilenone (5), were isolated from the n-hexane extract of Chisocheton lasiocarpus fruit. The chemical structure of all compounds was identified by spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D-NMR, IR, UV and HR-TOF MS as well as by comparison with previous reported spectra data. Compounds 1-5 were investigated from this plant for first time. The cytotoxic activity of the isolated compounds against MCF-7 breast cancer line were examined and the results showed that 7α-hyroxyneotricilenone (5) showed the moderate activity with IC50 values of 53 μM

Physicochemical analysis for simplicia and extract, respectively: water content 2.12–4% for simplicia; drying losses 3.93–5.47% and 8.51–19.76%; total ash 5.14–9.41% and 6.22–17.07%; total ash acid-insoluble content 0.29–5.41% and 0.52–3.82%; total ash water-soluble content 1.26–7.14% and 1.43–8.54%; water-soluble content 19.60–39.43% and 58.45–77.51%; ethanol-soluble content 13.99–33.76% and 59.79–75.39%. The phytochemical analysis showed that the extracts contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids. Total flavonoids and total phenolics content were 9.86–15.74% QE/g and 6.67–7.65% GAE/g, respectively. Based on LC-MS results, the extract contained emodin, kaempferol, kaempferol-3,7-diglucoside, and kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside. The extracts possessed antibacterial activity against bacteria tested.

Caulerpa lentillifera is a type of green seaweed that is cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas. The objectives of this study were to determine the characteristics of the sulfated polysaccharides from C. lentillifera and evaluate its antidiabetic activity. In the initial process of this study, samples were macerated with ethanol (1:10). Then, the maceration residue was extracted with an accumulator at 75 °C for three hours. The crude extract yield was 4.16% based on weight seaweed. Ion chromatography purification with DEAE-Sepharose resin provided a yield of 14.8% of crude extract. The monomer analysis of C. lentillifera from the crude extract and purified extract revealed that galactose monomers were dominant and glucose was a minor component. The total carbohydrate and sulfate contents of purified C. lentillifera were higher than those of crude C. lentillifera. Bioactivity tests revealed that purified polysaccharides had higher antidiabetic activity against α-glucosidase enzyme than crude ones with IC50 values of 134.81± 2.0 µg/mL. Purified sulfated polysaccharides of C. lentillifera could potentially be used as an antidiabetic medication.

Murraya is a plant genus within the Rutaceae family comprising over 17 species, which are widely distributed in Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. Furthermore, these species have been used in traditional medicine to treat fever, pain, and dysentery. Several reports have also extensively studied the leaves, seeds, stembark, and bark of Murraya from 1965 to 2023 to explore their natural product composition. Various phytochemical studies have revealed the isolation of 413 compounds recorded, comprising coumarins, terpenoids, flavonoids, and aromatics, as well as alkaloids, which constitute the largest proportion (46.9%). These isolated compounds have long been known to exhibit different bioactivities, such as cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory properties. Cytotoxic activity has been observed against HCT 116, HeLa, HepG2, and other cell lines. Previous studies have also reported the presence of antifungal, hepatoprotective, antihyperlipidemic, antidiarrheal, and antioxidant effects. Therefore, this review provides a comprehensive overview of Murraya species, highlighting their phytochemistry, biological activities, and potential as a source of active natural compounds.

The Aglaia genus, a member of the Meliaceae family, is generally recognized to include a number of secondary metabolite compounds with diverse structures and biological activities, including triterpenoids. Among the members of this genus, Aglaia cucullata has been reported to have unique properties and thrives exclusively in mangrove ecosystems. This plant is also known to contain various metabolites, such as flavaglines, bisamides, and diterpenoids, but there are limited reports on the isolation of triterpenoid compounds from its stem bark. Therefore, this research attempted to isolate and elucidate seven triterpenoids belonging to dammarane-type (1–7) from the stem bark of Aglaia cucullata. The isolated compounds included 20S,24S-epoxy-3α,25-dihydroxy-dammarane (1), dammaradienone (2), 20S-hydroxy-dammar-24-en-3-on (3), eichlerianic acid (4), (20S,24RS)-23,24-epoxy-24-methoxy-25,26,27-tris-nor dammar-3-one (5), 3α-acetyl-cabraleahydroxy lactone (6), and 3α-acetyl-20S,24S-epoxy-3α,25-dihydroxydammarane (7). Employing spectroscopic techniques, the chemical structures of the triterpenoids were identified using FTIR, NMR, and HRESITOF-MS. The cytotoxic activity of compounds 1–7 was tested with the PrestoBlue cell viability reagent against MCF-7 breast cancer, B16-F10 melanoma, and CV-1 normal kidney fibroblast cell lines. The results displayed that compound 5 had the highest level of bioactivity compared to the others. Furthermore, the IC50 values obtained were more than 100 μM, indicating the low potential of natural dammarane-type triterpenoids as anticancer agents. These findings provided opportunities for further studies aiming to increase their cytotoxic activities through semi-synthetic methods.

Three steroids, 3α-hydroxystigmast-5(6), 22-diene-7-one (1), stigmasterol (2) and 3-hydroxy-7β-methoxystigmast-5(6)-ene (3), were isolated from the stem bark of Dysoxylum nutans. The chemical structures were identified by spectroscopic data, which includes IR, 1D-NMR, 2D-NMR, and HR-TOFMS as well as by comparing previously reported spectral data. Compounds 1-3 were tested for cytotoxic effect against MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines and compound 1 showed the strongest cytotoxic activity with an IC50 value of 20.13 ± 0.06 μM.

Two new dammarane-type triterpenoid fatty acid ester derivatives, 3β-oleate-20S-hydroxydammar-24-en (1) and 3β-oleate-20S,24S-epoxy-25-hydroxydammarane (2) with a known dammarane-type triterpenoid compound, such as 20S-hydroxydammar-24-en-3-on (3), were isolated from the stem bark of Aglaiaelliptica (C.DC.) Blume. The chemical structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including FTIR, NMR (one and two-dimensional), and HRESITOF-MS analysis, as well as chemical derivatization and comparison with previous literature. Furthermore, the synthetic analog resulting from transesterification of 1 and 2 also obtained 3β,20S-dihydroxy-dammar-24-en (4) and 20S,24S-epoxy-3β,25-dihydroxydammarane (5), respectively. The cytotoxic effect of all isolated and synthetic analog compounds was evaluated using PrestoBlue reagent against MCF-7 breast cancer cell and B16-F10 melanoma cell lines. The 20S-hydroxydammar-24-en-3-on (3) showed the strongest activity against MCF-7 breast cancer and B16-F10 melanoma cell, indicating that the ketone group at C-3 in 3 plays an essential role in the cytotoxicity of dammarane-type triterpenoid. On the other hand, compounds 1 and 2 had very weak cytotoxic activity against the two cell lines, indicating the presence of fatty acid, significantly decreasing cytotoxic activity. This showed the significance of the discovery to investigate the essential structural feature in dammarane-type triterpenoid, specifically for the future development of anticancer drugs.

A new onoceranoid triterpenes, namely 3-hydroxy-8,14-secogammacera-7,14-dien-21-one (1), has been isolated from the fruit peels of Lansium domesticum Corr. cv kokossan. The structure of 1 was determined on the basis of spectroscopic data including infrared, 1D and 2D-NMR, as well as high resolution mass spectroscopy analysis. Compound 1 showed a weak activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines.

The study of toxic features of Koordersiodendron pinnatum is vital for further studies of its pharmacological activities. Acute toxicity test was done on methanolic extracts of K. pinnatum in DDY mice. Animals were grouped into five: Group 1 was given 1 mL solution of 2.5% Tween 80 in a single oral dose; the remaining groups were orally given a single dose of 2, 4, 8 and 16 g/kg of K. pinnatum, respectively. Toxic effects of the extract were evaluated on the basis of behavioral observations in the form of locomotor activity; curiosity; defecation; urination and also animal mortality. Observations were carried out for 14 days. No significant changes on body weight, and behavioural activities were recorded. Mortality was recorded up to 2% of the male group, and no mortality within the female group. The extract is practically non toxic for both male and female (LD50>15 g/kg).

Macaranga known locally as mahang-mahangan has uniquely ecological function, and also became a part of traditional medicine in Indonesia. Macaranga genus also known as a sources of terpenoid and phenolic (flavonoid) compounds which have biological activity as antioxidant and anticancer (cytotoxicity).There are few phytochemical investigations have been done on M. gigantifolia species. As a part of our continuing research of isolation anticancer compound from natural product, a geranylated flavonoid compound (macarangin) has been isolated from ethyl acetate fraction of Macaranga gigantifolia leaves using chromatography methods. The isolated compund (isolat MG) was elucidated to gain the chemical structure based on spectroscopic data (LC-MS and FT-NMR). Cytotoxicity test of this compound was tested against MCF 7 cell lines, showed that macarangin has a potential activity with IC50 value 119.12μg/mL.

Exploration of Mekongga national park resulted in novel finding of anticancer property from Tetrameles nudiflora. The investigation of toxic features of T. nudiflora is vital for further studies of its pharmacological activities. Acute toxicity test was done on methanolic extracts of T. nudiflora in DDY mice. Animal models were ordered into five groups. Group 1 was given 1 ml solution of 2.5% Tween 80 in a sole oral dose. The remaining groups were appointed a sole dose of 1, 2, 4 and 8 g/kg body weight T. nudiflora, respectively. Toxic effects of the extract were evaluated on the basis of behavioral observations in the form of locomotor activity; curiosity; defecation; urination and also animal mortality. Observations were carried out for 14 days. No significant changes in body weight and behavioral activities were recorded. Mortality was recorded up to 22% of the male group, and 11% of the female group. The T. nudiflora extracts tested for toxicity against brine shrimp had 50% lethal concentration (LC50) values of 46.67 μg/ml. It can be concluded that methanol extracts of T. nudiflora are potential to be explored as anticancer (LC50= 46.67 μg/ml). The extract is slightly toxic in male mice with Lethal Dose 50 (LD50) 12.6 g/kg body weight, and practically nontoxic for female (LD50>15 g/kg body weight)

Apigenin, a flavonoid compound has been isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of methanol extract of Macaranga gigantifolia leaves. Isolation and purification of apigenin conducted using column and centrifugal chromatography and chemical structure characterized based on spectroscopic data. In vitro anticancer activity test against murine leukimia P-388 cell line showed potential activity as anticancer with IC50 14.13 µg/mL.

Kalanchoe is the biggest genera of Crassulaceae family and distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. This genera is found to be a rich source of biologically active natural products such as triterpenes, flavonoids and steroids. As a part of our continuing search for novel insecticidal compounds from Indonesian Kalanchoe plants, we examined Kalanchoe daigremontiana collected from Bandung region, West Java, Indonesia. The methanolic extract of the dried leaves of K. daigremontiana was concentrated and extracted with methylene chloride The methylene chloride extract exhibited an insecticidal activity toward silkworms. The methylene chloride extract was partitioned between n-hexane and methanol containing 10% water. The active lower layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. By using the insecticidal activity to follow the separations, the ethyl acetate fraction was separated by combination of column chromatography on Kieselgel 60 and ODS to afford two insecticidal bufadienolides 1 and 2. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, NMR, 2D-NMR) and comparison with those related data previously reported. In this paper, the isolation, structural elucidation, and insecticidal activities against the third instar larvae of silkworm will be described.

The Flavanone compound with anti diabetic activity was isolated from ethyl acetate extract of Artocarpus communis leaves using column chromatography techniques. The structure of the flavanone compound was elucidated on the basic of spectroscopic evidence and comparison to published values. This compound, 8-geranyl-4,5,7-trihydroxyflavone, showed strong anti diabetic activity on α-glucosidase inhibition assay with IC50 18.120 µg mL-1.
