The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the relationship between environmental, social and financial performance. In particular, based on the literature, we hypothesise the existence of a 'sand cone' model of sustainability that implies cumulative and sequential effects among the three performance dimensions. The hypothesis is tested using the fixed effects model on a longitudinal dataset of secondary data covering the period 2010–2019. The dataset includes 661 companies operating in the manufacturing industry and located in Europe, North America and Asia. The findings show that environmental, social and financial performance do not conflict but cumulate. The sequence of performance improvements that outlines a 'sand cone' starts with environmental sustainability and ends with financial performance, while social performance fully mediates the relationship between the two. Any other sequence is not confirmed by the data. These results are however valid only in Western countries (i.e. Europe and North America). Based on these findings, this research informs managers that the three pillars of sustainability have a cumulative effect, but only if a specific implementation sequence is followed. Purpose: This paper presents a transparent and rigorous methodological approach to conducting a case study of social performance (SP) within the conventional life cycle of Canadian beef. The objective was to explore the potential benefits and risks (or hotspots) of practices on Canadian beef farm businesses (BFBs) and slaughter operations (BSOs) to establish valid benchmarks and a social sustainability roadmap for decision-makers to improve SP. Methods: This study undertook a novel and participatory approach to social life cycle assessment (S-LCA). Respondents from both within and at-arms-length to the beef value chain were engaged to identify SP practices and perceptions and develop the life cycle inventory. The goal and scope, inventory, assessment, and interpretation were conducted in a three-phased approach: (i) scoping; (ii) practice-based assessment; and (iii) deep-dive assessment. Data collected through mixed methods, including Q method, interviews, surveys, and literature review, were assessed using a type I (reference scale) approach and interpreted through critical interpretive synthesis. Organizational SP was explored at BFBs and BSOs, considering the following stakeholders: value chain actors, farmers, employees, and cattle. Results and discussion: Outcomes from the applied approach explore the interrelations between organizations and stakeholders along the value chain. Impact categories concerning labour management, people's health and safety, and animal care were prioritized for deep-dive assessment. Subcategories included novel topics, like recruitment and retention and access to mental health resources. A range of potential benefits and areas for improving SP were identified at BFBs and BSOs. Potential risks from SP were identified for stakeholders from working hours, communication and dispute resolution, animal transport, and personal protective equipment practice areas. Results informed strategic activities for the National Beef Sustainability Strategy. Conclusion: This study contributes to the social sustainability discourse in livestock systems by demonstrating a qualitative approach to S-LCA that can be replicated by practitioners to explore valid and locally specific social dimensions of sustainability. Practitioners may consider the approach and results in future studies to better capture and manage the complex and dynamic nature of livestock systems, leading to more effective social sustainability decisions that incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives. Individuals with high social interaction anxiety (SIA) and depression often behave submissively in social settings. Few studies have simultaneously examined the associations between objectively assessed submissive behaviors and SIA or depression, despite their high comorbidity and unknown mechanisms regarding submissiveness. A sample of 45 young adults self-reported trait SIA and depression, state positive/negative affect (PA/NA) before and after a virtual social interaction. Participants engaged in a four-minute conversation with a confederate who was trained to behave neutrally. Mutual eye gaze, via eye-tracking, and vocal pitch were assessed throughout the interaction. Depression and SIA were positively correlated with NA, poorer self-rated performance, and vocal pitch. Highly socially anxious women engaged in less mutual eye gaze than highly socially anxious men. Also, vocal pitch was inversely associated with mutual eye gaze and positively related to NA and (nonsignificantly) to self-ratings of poor performance. Finally, our data partially replicated past research on the use of vocal pitch during social stress to detect social anxiety disorder. The current sample is relatively homogenous in educational attainment, age, and race. All research confederates were women. Future research should examine whether these archival data replicate with the latest telecommunication technologies. Our findings highlight nuanced relationships among SIA, depression, emotions, self-perceptions, and biobehavioral indicators of submissive behavior—in response to an ambiguously negative/positive social interaction. We discuss environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations in international development projects, especially those funded by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC). Their social safeguard policies were adopted because of neglect of social impacts by projects. Although development assistance goals have shifted from economic growth towards poverty reduction and shared prosperity, mitigating adverse impacts of projects does not necessarily address the multiple dimensions of poverty or the Sustainable Development Goals. 'Do no harm' has limited ability to achieve social development objectives. Instead, a significant contribution to international development could come by embedding community investment in the environmental and social frameworks of international financial institutions, and social impact assessment and international development practise. This would ensure that projects contribute to improving the lives of project affected peoples. The research focuses on exploring the role of collaborations in the functioning of such nonprofit organizations as museums. In this vein, we traced the impact of collaborations on both innovations (technological, product) and social performance applying the museum sector as an example. The data were collected from an online survey of museum directors (n = 197). Employing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and the Hayes process macro, our analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between collaborative orientation and the development of both product and technological innovations. Furthermore, both types of innovation positively contribute to social performance. Nevertheless, we found that only product innovation serves as a mediator of the relationship between collaborative orientation and social performance. Currently, there is a surge in the adoption of green construction practices (GCP) to address and attempt to alleviate the adverse effects of construction activities on the natural environment. The current research surrounding sustainability in the industry has witnessed a notable surge in efforts, primarily driven by a growing consciousness of environmental concerns. In this context, it is worth noting that the focus of assessment schemes in developed countries has predominantly gravitated toward economic and environmental factors, with relatively less emphasis placed on social performance (SP). Many researchers have underscored this disparity, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive approach encompassing all three sustainability dimensions. Hence, the present research examines the effects of green construction practices on economic performance (ECP) while considering the mediating role of environmental performance (EP) and SP. The results showed no direct impact of GCP on ECP. However, the mediating role of SP and EP in the association between GCP and ECP was found to be statistically significant. The present study provides several implications. This study presents empirical evidence that implementing GCP yields several benefits for contractors, including cost reduction in waste management, legal expenses, and energy consumption. These cost savings effectively offset the initial investment required to implement GCP, enabling construction projects to attain ECP thresholds. This study provides a significant contribution to the expanding corpus of knowledge concerning green building site practices and construction management. It offers novel insights into the influence of a project's EP and SP on its economic feasibility. Furthermore, this research study has effectively showcased the positive impact of GCP on construction projects' environmental construction performance, particularly concerning environmental and social considerations. Many researchers have investigated the reasons why some social entrepreneurs are more successful than others at leading businesses and fostering their growth in developed nations, but there have been few studies on the continent of Africa. This viewpoint is relevant to the study's focus on Tunisia. This study analyzed the relationships between the psychological capital of social entrepreneurs and the performance of social enterprises. The purpose of this study was to examine the nexus between psychological capital, social performance and the economic performance of social enterprises. The study uses a quantitative approach based on questionnaires administered to 171 social entrepreneurs. Hypothesis testing was carried out using structural equation methods on PLS 4 software. The results confirm the positive effect of the social entrepreneur's psychological capital on the economic performance of social enterprises. Social performance exerts a double positive effect on economic performance: A direct positive effect and an indirect positive effect by acting as a moderator on the relationship between the social entrepreneur's psychological capital and the economic performance of social enterprises. The implication of the above findings is that psychological capital is a key determinant of the performance of enterprises. The current paper examines how corporate social responsibility (CSR) through three dimensions (social, environmental and governance) could influence technological and non‐technological innovations. The study is conducted on a longitudinal dataset of firms listed on the SBF1201 index between 2005 and 2016. It shows significant associations between CSR performance, particularly social and governance performances, and technological innovations introducing new products. The implementation of new processes is positively and significantly associated with environmental performance. Findings highlight that the three CSR dimensions have significant effects on management innovations. However, they did not influence marketing innovations. Finally, undertaking socially responsible projects does not drive significant changes in R&D strategy, specifically R&D expenditures and the number of hired scientists and experts, but it increases significantly the number of patents. Purpose: This study aims to examine the potential threshold effect in the association between corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance and social reputation. Design/methodology/approach: This study includes an international and cross-sector sample covering 41 countries, nine sectors and 45,395 firm-year observations. It applies a parabolic relationship, rather than linear regressions, between CSR engagement and social reputation via CSR awarding. This implies that CSR performance should increase until a certain point to gain a social reputation but then should decrease after reaching that threshold point considering limited financial resources. Findings: The findings of country-industry-year fixed-effects logistic regressions confirm the threshold effect with an inverted U-shaped relationship between CSR and CSR awarding. More specifically, firms increase their environmental and social engagement until a certain point, and then they reduce it after reaching a social reputation. This finding is confirmed by three dimensions of the environmental pillar (i.e. resource use, emissions and eco-innovation) as well as four dimensions of the social pillar (i.e. workforce, human rights, community and product responsibility). The findings are robust to alternative samples, alternative methodology and endogeneity concerns. Practical implications: The findings of this study have implications for firms about the better allocation of available funds between CSR and operations. The findings could be particularly useful for CSR teams/committees of the firms who formulate CSR policies and how to mobilize firm resources for better social enhancement via environmental and social reputation. Originality/value: This study examines deeper the nature of the association between CSR engagement and social reputation and considers the possibility of an inverted U-shaped relationship between them. The determination of a threshold effect suggests that CSR engagement increases social reputation, but once it reaches a certain point, social reputation will decrease owing to financial resource constraints. Environmental degradation can lead to climate change, air and water quality degradation, and biodiversity loss. The study aims to assess the impact of illegal oil extraction on environmental, social, economic, and public health dimensions in Peurelak, East Aceh, Indonesia. Using proportional random sampling techniques, 245 respondents were selected, representing owners and investors (9), tenant investors (18), workers/laborers (68), melters (6), public figures/community leaders (3), the community (138), and village government officials (3). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with AMOS software. The results revealed a significant negative effect of illegal oil mining on social, environmental, and health performance (p-values = 0.031, 0.029, and 0.010, respectively, at a 95% confidence level). Additionally, informal leadership and government support were found to positively influence illegal oil mining (p-values = .017 and .035, respectively, below the significance threshold of .05). Furthermore, illegal oil mining significantly affects economic performance (p-value = .021). This paper emphasizes the adverse impacts of unauthorized oil extraction on community well-being while highlighting the collusive role of informal leaders and government authorities. Additionally, the study reveals a worrisome positive relationship between illegal oil mining and economic performance in Indonesia.

This study explores the relationship between corporate sustainability, focusing on social performance and its impact on financial performance in the technology industry. Using secondary data from the Refinitiv Eikon database, covering 4,825 companies from 2019-2023, the research uses multiple regression models to analyze associations between sustainability variables and key financial indicators, mainly return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). Findings reveal a robust and statistically significant positive effect of social performance on ROE, complemented by positive impacts of workforce, human rights, community, and product responsibility in the models. In addition, company size consistently demonstrates a strong positive influence on ROE in all models. These results contribute valuable insights into the intersection of sustainability initiatives and financial performance in the technology sector.

Since the child's sensorineural hearing loss and its negative consequences, including weak social skills, is one of the most challenging problems for parents and other family members, the main aim of the present study is to investigate if there is any probable relation between the cochlear implanted children's social performance and their mothers' depression level,in this cross-sectional observational analytic research, we implemented the Beck Depression Inventory version- II to evaluate the level of depression in 29 mothers of cochlear implanted children. Also, we assessed their children's social abilities through the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale. Finally, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) was carried out to find any probable relation between the mothers' depression level and their children's social performance. The mean difference was significant at the 0.05 level,results indicated no significant difference in the mean social performance of the children mothers encountered with mild or moderate degrees of depression. However, the mean social performance of the children with severely depressed mothers was significantly less than the others,severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss in children might cause various degrees of depression in mothers. This article joins Durkheim's theory of cult and Goffman's notion of an interactional membrane to show how rituals transform social life from mundanity to ritual, and back again. I update these classical theories with a cultural sociology of performance and the sociology of fun to emphasize diversity in social compositions, contextual transformations, and contradiction in meaning. With an abductive methodology, I leverage an ethnography of children's sports in Norway to show how we carry out symbolic work to set sports apart from the mundane and then meaningfully enact games either as an attractive play modality or as a constrained organizing of creative play. Dramaturgy, not athletic success, is key in this study. Children's sports, as an arena for tacit learning about symbolic modalities, show us how much effort it takes to create ritual-like encounters and fun. The study also reveals how broadly available codes about children's sports, and about play itself, are worked into sports through social performances where adult coaches and children manoeuvre the possible meanings of sports. Purpose: Today, the sustainability and outreach of microfinance institutions (MFIs) are crucial to the success of microfinance and the sector's potential to make a lasting impact. The ability of MFIs to operate financially well without sacrificing their social goals has come under scrutiny. This study aims to identify the kind of relationships between the two objectives of MFIs in Ethiopia. Design/methodology/approach: This study investigated the association between the outreach and financial sustainability of Ethiopian MFIs from the years 2012 to 2021 using a balanced set of panel data. The study used secondary data and employed a descriptive research design and a quantitative research approach. To this end, random and fixed effects estimation models, as well as three-stage least squares, with the model of seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) are used. Findings: According to the study, outreach performance enables MFIs to achieve sustainability/financial performance. On the other side, MFI that are financially sound improve social performance. There was therefore no trade-off between the two objectives. Originality/value: As Ethiopia's microfinance sector shifts away from government and non-government backing and toward commercialization, such research is crucial. This aspect of the Ethiopian microfinance industry has gotten little consideration in research. Compliance with social and environmental responsibilities is one of the requirements of the current competitive era, and the competitive pressure on companies in this situation imposes costs that can affect financial performance. This research investigates the moderating role of competitive strength in the relationship between social and environmental responsibilities and financial performance. The statistical sample for this research consists of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange between 2016 and 2021. Using a regular screening method, 108 companies were selected as samples. After checking the classical assumptions of regression, the panel data model with fixed effects was used. The results showed that social performance has a positive relationship with financial performance. Competitive strength has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between social performance and financial performance. Environmental performance also has a positive relationship with financial performance, and competitive strength has a negative moderating role in this relationship. According to the coefficients of the variables, the social dimension of the company is more effective in increasing performance than the environmental dimension. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To achieve sustainability, industrial systems need to be modernized to improve resource efficiency while optimizing environmental and social performance. The implementation of environmental and technological projects is a complex management process and requires sufficient innovative potential and serious investments, which not every company can provide. Network integration of companies, providing synergy of resources and potentials, is an effective tool for the development and implementation of innovative technologies that allow achieving optimal resource efficiency indicators. An integrated complex approach to the formation of a cross- industrial system on the principles of network integration and partnerships ensures technological interaction between companies, optimizes the methods and forms of their economic activities, allows integration participants to achieve strategic goals and ensure environmental and social effects for the territory of presence. The sustainability of such a system is expressed in its ability to withstand internal threats and external challenges. Approaches to balancing environmental and technological effects while simultaneously analysing social efficiency have not received sufficient development in scientific research. This article discusses an approach to the selection of environmental-technological projects based on criteria for assessing the sustainability and resilience of industrial systems. The authors' approach has been tested using two industrial symbioses of advanced socio-economic development territories in the city of Novotroitsk (Orenburg region, Russian Federation). The authors presented calculated indicators of resource efficiency before and after the formation of a cross-sectoral industrial system in order to identify social and environmental effects in Novotroitsk. This approach to the assessment of environmental and technological projects allows to concentrate government support measures on the general priorities of the implementation of regional economic and industrial policies. Purpose: This paper examine whether social performance moderates the linkage between financial risk and financial performance in microfinance institutions (MFIs). The study focuses on the financial self-sufficiency and long-term sustainability of MFIs. Design/methodology/approach: The empirical study uses unbalanced panel data of 2,694 worldwide MFIs from 2009 to 2019. In the first step, the study inspects the impact of social performance and risk on financial performance, proxied as return on assets and operational self-sufficiency. In the second stage, moderated hierarchical regression is applied to test whether social performance moderates the relationship between risk and financial performance. Lastly, the study confirms the significant moderation effects with slope tests. Findings: The study detects robust evidence that financial risk is negatively related to financial performance. Though social performance exhibits a weak positive link with financial performance in silos, the evidence of its moderating effects on risk is mixed and significant. Social performance indicators, such as the borrower retention rate and female representation, positively moderate the relationship between financial risk and financial performance. The study documents that social performance impacts financial performance and operational self-sufficiency through risk moderation. Thus, social performance fosters the sustainability of these institutions over the long haul. Research limitations/implications: The study is relevant to academics and theorists to consider the stakeholder approach in microfinancing. In the context of stakeholder theory, the study advances the specific social responsiveness process, namely stakeholder engagement. Practical implications: The evidence that socially sensitive operations can curtail the adverse effects of credit risks on financial performance signify the required attention to social performance. For MFI managers and practitioners, the findings justify the business case for social performance. Stakeholder engagement, under the auspices of social responsiveness, acts as a risk-mitigation mechanism to eventually foster financial performance and self-sufficiency. Social implications: The study motivates MFIs to do more for their stakeholders and society by highlighting the benefits of social performance. In this paper, we consider asymmetric performance evaluation contracts under different product market configurations with managerial delegation and specify the optimal decision-making by the social and relative performance evaluation firms. We present a reversal result on the owner's choice of the social performance and relative performance evaluation contract as the product market competition type changes from quantity to price competition. Surprisingly, results indicate that the consumer surplus increases as the degree of product substitution increases under quantity competition in a specific economic environment. A firm that considers social performance evaluation produces less, charges a higher price, and earns a lower profit than a firm that uses relative performance evaluation. We also endogenize the choice of performance evaluation systems. While relative performance emerges as the endogenous choice under both modes of product market competition, it leads to lower consumer surplus and social welfare in comparison to an asymmetric performance evaluation system. Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Coping Abilities Workshop, a structured intervention designed to enhance selfregulation, improve social performance, and reduce aggression among first to third-grade primary school students exhibiting signs of Oppositional Defiant Disorder in Tehran, District 2. Methodology: This randomized controlled trial involved 60 students, evenly divided into an intervention and a control group. Each group comprised 30 participants, and the intervention spanned eight weeks, with follow-up assessments conducted three months post-intervention. Measurements for selfregulation, social performance, and aggression were taken using standardized tools at three time points: pre-intervention, post-intervention, and follow-up. The data were analyzed using ANOVA with repeated measures and Bonferroni posthoc tests, utilizing SPSS software version 27. Findings: Significant improvements were observed in the intervention group compared to the control. Post-intervention results showed substantial increases in self-regulation (mean pre = 32.45, SD = 4.12; mean post = 45.67, SD = 3.56) and social performance (mean pre = 28.54, SD = 2.95; mean post = 40.26, SD = 2.45), along with a notable reduction in aggression (mean pre = 35.60, SD = 5.12; mean post = 20.22, SD = 4.75). These effects were maintained at the three-month followup, indicating the lasting impact of the intervention. Conclusion: The Coping Abilities Workshop significantly enhanced selfregulation and social performance while effectively reducing aggression among primary school students with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Purpose: The purpose of this research was to examine the influence of entrepreneurial orientation on social performance and the influence of social performance on financial performance of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Indonesia. These tests use environmental dynamism as antecedents. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted on a sample of 235 CEOs/top leaders of MFIs spread across all provinces in Indonesia. Data collection used survey questionnaires. Data testing used SPSS version 25, and structural modeling used Amos version 25. Findings: The findings show that entrepreneurial orientation significantly influences the social performance of MFIs in Indonesia. Entrepreneurial orientation does not influence financial performance but must go through social performance mediation. Social performance has a significant effect on financial performance. The importance of MFIs improves social performance (depth and breadth of reach) to improve financial performance. Practical implications: MFIs need to increase social contribution and responsibility to improve social performance which will impact financial performance. Originality/value: Entrepreneurial orientation influence on financial performance goes through social performance. Social performance includes the depth of the reach to contribute to improving the quality of life of people experiencing poverty around the MFI's operations and the social responsibility of MFIs to the community through scholarships, free medical assistance, basic food assistance and building/renovating houses of worship and others. Despite growing research interest in the social impact of social enterprises (SEs), limited attention has been paid to the antecedents of social impact. To address this gap, we conducted a systematic review of 52 extant studies that examine the antecedents of SEs' social impact. The paper synthesizes the antecedents identified from prior work and categorizes them into individual- and organizational-level factors. Based on the findings, we develop a future research agenda to advance our knowledge of the antecedents of SEs' social impact. A key research opportunity is to explore the social impact antecedents related to the institutional and external environment of SEs, an area that has been overlooked in the literature. In terms of practical implications, the study can be used to consider which factors policy makers and practitioners should focus on to develop strategies for improving the social impact of existing and future SEs. Purpose: This study aims to investigate whether Industry 4.0 digital technologies can enhance the effects of lean production on social performance. Design/methodology/approach: Survey data collected from China's manufacturing industry are used to test research hypotheses. Findings: The results reveal that the three dimensions of lean production (internal, customer and supplier) have a significant positive effect on social performance and that digital technology advancement (DTA) positively moderates these relationships. DTA adds only a marginal contribution to social performance. Practical implications: This study addresses a new challenging question from manufacturing firms: how to integrate lean, technology and people? The empirical findings provide timely and insightful practical guidance for managers to better understand the role of digital transformation in the traditional lean context. Abstract—The article analyzes options for large-scale railway projects: the Barents Sea–Komi–Ural rail line (Barentskomur) and the North Siberian Railway (Severosib). The feasibility of constructing these projects has been discussed for almost a century. The uncertainty of the results of these latitudinal megaprojects and the costs of their implementation is of strategic importance for Russia. In the long term, the results of these megaprojects may have mixed effects on public performance. In existing methods, uncertainty is associated with a particular degree of risk. To justify the designs, sets of measures are proposed that minimize risks (of a probabilistic and non-probabilistic nature). This article presents an alternative approach when the uncertainty factor is analyzed constructively, in terms of future opportunities. To solve the problems that arise here, the tools of neosystems analysis according to Ya. Kornai and G.B. Kleiner, understood as design of a multidimensional future using a holistic system for assessing large-scale projects with the support of information and expert technologies. It is shown how a set of Russian software products developed at Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences and the Siberian State Transport University is expanding the capabilities of expert technologies in developing recommendations for people making complex investment decisions under conditions of risk and uncertainty. Our paper empirically confirms that collaborative governance in social startups affects social performance through mediating economic performance. While there is a growing literature on the sustainable growth and performance of social economy organizations, empirical research on social startups is very scarce. Therefore, this study can contribute to the knowledge of social economy and entrepreneurship research through an empirical study that identifies factors for social startups' performance. This study utilized data from 399 social startups that are commercial companies such as corporations, which are the legal form of startups in South Korea, and the results of the analysis are as follows. First, cooperative governance of social startups had a significant positive effect on economic performance, and social performance also had a significant positive effect. Second, the economic performance of social startups had a significant positive impact on social performance. Finally, collaborative governance in social startups affected social performance through the mediation effect of economic performance. The implications and insights of this study are as follows: First, we find that collaborative governance has a positive impact on both economic and social performance of social startups, and thus is a key factor in the success of social startups. Second, this study represents the first empirical study on the performance improvement of social startups and suggests collaborative governance as an important success factor for social startups.

In the context of industry 4.0, digital technology has become one of the core drivers of production and operations for enterprises, promoting the transformation of businesses towards more sustainable development models. Concurrently, green supply chain management (GSCM) practices contribute to the development of sound business strategies for driving sustainable development. This study examines the impact of digital technology on sustainable performance in the context of industry 4.0, from the perspective of practice-based view (PBV) theory and information processing theory (IPT). It also focuses on the mediating role of GSCM practices in the influence of digital technology on sustainable performance. Data was collected from 486 manufacturing enterprises in China for empirical analysis using the PLS-SEM method. The results indicate that: (1) Under the industry 4.0 context, digital technology (IDT) has a significant positive impact on environmental performance (EP), economic performance (ECP), and social performance (SP). (2) IDT has a significant positive effect on green manufacturing (GM), green purchasing (GP), green design (GD), green information systems (GIS), reverse logistics (RL) and investment recovery (IR). (3) GM, GP, GD, GIS, RL, IR have significant positive effects on EP, ECP and SP. (4) Among the six different dimensions of GSCM practices, IDT has a partially mediating effect through CM on EP, a partially mediating effect through GM on ECP and SP, a partially mediating effect through GP on EP and SP, a partially mediating effect through GD on EP, ECP, and SP, a partially mediating effect through GIS on ECP and SP, a partially mediating effect through RL on EP, ECP, and SP. Finally, IDT has a partially mediating effect through IR on EP and SP. It is noteworthy that GP does not have a mediating effect between IDT and ECP, GIS does not have a mediating effect on EP, and IR does not have a mediating effect between IDT and ECP. By conducting in-depth research on the impact of digital technology on the economic, environmental, and social performance of enterprises in the industry 4.0 environment, this study aims to promote the enhancement of sustainable performance for businesses. It also aims to provide specific strategies and practical guidance for enterprises to promote sustainable development in the industry 4.0 era.

The present study analyzes the impact that the structure of the board of directors and its organization have on sustainability, especially on social and environmental pillar scores, in the European country in the period 2018-2022. The Refinitiv Eikon database is the main source, accumulating a number of 15,575 observations for the analyzed period. In order to analyze the structure of the board of directors and its way of organization, five independent variables were taken into account, represented by the number of directors in boards, how many of them are independent members and how many women are in board, the duality of the CEO and the total number of meetings in a year. Sustainability was analyzed using data collected for social and environmental performance and represented the dependent variables of the study. Using SPSS software, data were extracted from Refinitiv Eikon for 3,115 companies using econometric methods (multiple linear regression), as well as correlation matrix and descriptive statistics. The results indicate that boards with an increased proportion of independent and female directors, accompanied by a dual-role CEO, contribute to improved sustainability. Positive social and environmental performance effects associated with board size, degree of independence, gender diversity, and CEO duality were also observed. In contrast to previous hypotheses, no relationship was identified between the frequency of board meetings and social and environmental performance.

This study utilizes transaction cost and legitimacy theories to examine whether a carbon tax affects listed companies' environmental, financial and social performance within the context of Australia's National Greenhouse Energy Reporting (NGER) Act. We use a base sample of 346 listed company-year observations for 2012–2017 and employ the System Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to deal with bias arising from endogenous explanatory variables in our analysis. We find that the short period of implementation of a carbon tax in Australia was not successful in improving the carbon emissions of the high polluters subject to the tax in our sample. High polluters subject to the tax experienced a positive impact on financial performance and social performance. However, many entities beyond listed companies were subject to the tax, and the period of the tax saw a reduction in total emissions. We conjecture that industry assistance and free carbon credits granted to companies explain these results.

This research aims to examine environmental performance disclosure, social performance disclosure, governance performance disclosure, and political linkages in increasing firm value in Singapore. The research method uses a quantitative descriptive approach using secondary data. The population is all companies listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange with a sample size of 87 companies and the research period is between 2018 and 2021. The hypothesis testing analysis technique uses panel data regression. The findings of this study indicate that disclosure of political ties, disclosure of governance performance, and disclosure of environmental performance all increase firm value. However, firm value is not influenced by social performance disclosure. This research looks at how political connections and firm value are influenced by disclosure of environmental performance, social performance, governance performance and other factors. To increase business value, it is important to disclose environmental performance, social performance, governance performance and political relationships, as this research shows. The implications of this research show that sustainability report disclosure provides a good signal that can increase firm value.

AbstractUnresolved issue regarding the role of entrepreneurial orientation in improving the financial and social performance of village-owned enterprises, as well as the importance of mediating the effect of open innovation, is the reason why this study was undertaken. The study involved 200 village-owned enterprises from 10 regencies in Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and employed a purposive sampling method for data collection. Data analysis was conducted using SEM AMOS version 23. The results show that entrepreneurial orientation has an effect on financial performance and open innovation, but has no significant effect on social performance. Open innovation has a significant effect on social performance and financial performance. The research also supports the notion that open innovation acts as a mediator in the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and financial and social performance. Therefore, the study recommends that village-owned enterprises should focus on increasing open innovation to improve performance, particularly in the social sphere, and that they should strive to retain managers with a high level of entrepreneurial orientation.

This study examined the impact of green human resource management (GHRM) and green supply chain management (GSCM) on the economic, social, and environmental performance of 272 (ISO-certified) textile firms in Pakistan. It investigated how a firm's size and the number of years since adopting GSCM practices influence performance. Survey data were collected from these firms through a cluster sampling approach and then analyzed through structural equation modeling. Results highlighted that GHRM positively influences a firm's environmental and social performance. Results further indicated that inbound and outbound GSCM activities mediate between GHRM and a firm's environmental and social performance. The moderation results revealed that a firm's size is crucial for improving performance. From an emerging economy perspective, this study draws the attention of policymakers and managers, concluding that implementing GHRM improves the green orientation of all the departments within a firm and helps organizations achieve sustainability goals. The objective of this study is to understand how strategic alliances and dynamic capabilities influence the performance of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Indonesia. The research was conducted on a sample of 235 CEOs/top leaders of MFIs spread across all provinces in Indonesia. Data collection used survey questionnaires. Data testing used SPSS version 25, and structural modeling used Amos version 25. The findings show that strategic alliances significantly influence dynamic capabilities and dynamic capabilities significantly influence social performance. Social performance has a significant effect on financial performance. MFIs are important in establishing strategic alliance and strengthening their dynamic capabilities to improve social performance (depth and breadth of reach) and affect financial performance. Social performance includes the depth of the reach to contribute to improving the quality of life of people experiencing poverty around the MFI's operations and the social responsibility of MFIs to the community through scholarships, free medical assistance, basic food assistance, and building/renovating houses of worship and others. Prior research suggests that board diversity, especially in terms of gender, potentially enhances its effectiveness. However, as a construct, diversity extends beyond gender to encompass board members' other demographic attributes as well as cognitive features such as attitudes, values, beliefs, knowledge, skills and capabilities. We expect these two sides of diversity, which we label demographic and cognitive, to play a critical role in determining a firm's corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure. For our purpose, CSR performance and disclosure comprise environmental and social dimensions. Our results show that social performance exhibits a positive relation to a board's demographic and cognitive diversities, while environmental performance relates to cognitive diversity, but not demographic diversity. Moreover, both forms of diversity mediate the positive relationship between social performance and social disclosure quality, while only demographic diversity mediates the positive relationship between environmental performance and environmental disclosure quality. This study examines the characteristics of ideal social entrepreneurship by assessing their social impact. The use of the contemporary design and triangulation approach allows for validating information gathered from different sources. Data were collected from in‐depth interviews, focus group interviews and documentary analysis, and MAXQDA (a qualitative analysis software package) was used for data management, coding and retrieval. The performance assessment logic model was used to assess the social performance of social enterprises. The findings show that selected social ventures have created a remarkable social value that explicitly resulted in economic empowerment, community improvement, career growth and political empowerment of its intended beneficiaries. We also found a significant variation in the linkage between social performance indicators, such as inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes and impact, across the five selected case studies. Corporate entrepreneurial leadership (CEL) plays a critical role in promoting innovative behavior that disrupts existing practices in organizations, to say the least, encouraging new policy initiatives that could affect the business and social performance of the organizations under their sustainable development goals (SDGs). CEL can help achieve SDGs by redesigning different contextual factors to help promote various policy initiatives. In this vein, this study identifies the factors which could improve the business and social performance of the organizations helping to achieve SDGs through an amalgam of theoretical lenses, particularly the dynamic capability view. Based on extant literature, we developed, validated, and applied a theoretical model using the partial least square structural equation modeling technique on data collected from 327 respondents from different organizations. The study found that CEL capability significantly and positively impacts the various organizational entities and resources, which in turn affects the business and social performance of the organizations. Research Question/Issue: This study investigates the impact of family governance, including founder directors and their ties to family members on the board, on the social performance of microfinance institutions (MFIs), a special kind of social enterprise with dual objectives. Research Findings/Insights: Using a dataset of 735 MFIs operating in Bangladesh from 2007 to 2017, we find that founder directors and board members with family ties to the founder have an adverse impact on MFIs' social performance. These findings hold when we perform several robustness tests and endogeneity tests. Theoretical/Academic Implications: We contribute to the corporate governance literature on MFIs and social enterprises in two ways. First, our findings suggest that, when MFIs are confronted with dual performance objectives, founder directors may "trade off" social outcomes in favor of economic outcomes and therefore adversely affect MFIs' social performance. Second, our findings extend the literature by showing that the presence of board members with family ties to founder directors also adversely affects MFIs' social performance. Practitioner/Policy Implications: This study suggests that MFIs' board composition influences their governance and ability to oversee their social and financial performance effectively.
