This paper is devoted to the mentality as the result of social processes by shaping of life experiences, but in case of Russia with special understanding of spirituality play a key role in shaping national identity and thus the perception of war. The aim of this paper will be to analyse the idea of war in Russian culture, considering its relationship to Russian nihilism, its roots, and the consequences it entails. Understanding the place of the archetype of war and the enemy in the self-awareness of Russians is not only important from a research perspective. This paper is also about aspects of the treatment of the bodies of fallen soldiers fighting on the side of the Russian Federation. The first objective of this study was to analyse the idea of war in Russian culture. Next, understanding the place of the archetype of war and the enemy in the self-awareness of Russians. The article presents original scientific research an alternative view of the idea of war in Russian culture, describing the characteristics of a nation's mentality with various aspects of an ethnic group's spiritual life, as well as understanding of Russia's lack of respect to bodies of fallen soldiers fighting on the side of the Russian Federation. The end of the Cold War changed the identification of national security. In fact, non-military factors also shape security. One of the elements of democracy is a civil society characterized by the activity and the ability to self-organize independently of state institutions. Independence does not mean rivalry with democratic power, but a sense of community and responsibility for specific social problems. Self-realizing groups taking part in various areas of activity are the source of an unlimited number of initiatives: cultural, sporting, educational and other enabling the development of broadly understood values. In civic society, associated groups, unrestricted by the pressure of state power, establish civic organizations or initiatives in which they implement specific ideas and values. Every country must develop individual capacity to resist crisis or armed attack. In XXI century near 70 years after initialled the North Atlantic Treaty, threats and challenges call European countries in raise awareness to training and educating further non-military defence resources. The process cannot be done by military education institutions or for military personnel only. Educational efforts must start in high schools and continuing through public administration up to the highest authorities responsible for national defence. Dependence of the state defence preparations and collective defence to education for security is presented by Polish experience in specific geopolitical situation XXI century. Regional situation of eastern border countries of EU and NATO is diametrically different than at the end of XX century, therefore, every country must redefine education of societies for non-military preparation. Geopolitical situation of Poland in XXI century is very complicated. The main source of threats is the Russian sphere of influence in eastern Europe with concept of superpower domination. In this scope the national security strategy based on operational forces supported by NATO alliance is not enough during conflict. Membership of Poland in NATO obliges to develop individual capacity to resist armed assault without depriving her of sovereignty for defence of state. Poland must be ready to individual defence own territory. Keeping of defensive ability to protect area of state must requires Territorial Defence.
