Background and Aim: Non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) is one of the most common progressive metabolic disorders worldwide. There are increasing scientific interests nowadays for the association between vitamin D status and Non-alcoholic fatty liver. Earlier studies have revealed that vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in Non-alcoholic fatty liver patients that contributes to poor outcomes. Hence, the present study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of oral cholecalciferol on Non-alcoholic fatty liver patients.Subjects and Methods: This study was conducted on 140 patients that were randomized either to group 1 that received the standard conventional therapy in addition to placebo or group 2 that received the standard conventional therapy in addition to cholecalciferol during the 4 months study period.Results: At the end of the study group 2 revealed significant decrease (p < 0.05) in the mean serum level of TG, LDL-C, TC, hsCRP as compared to their baseline results and group 1 results. Additionally, a significant improvement in the serum levels of ALT (p = 0.001) was seen in group 2 at the end of the study when compared to group 1. Whereas group 1 did not show any change in these parameters when compared to group 2 and their baseline results.Conclusion: Cholecalciferol was shown to have beneficial effects on serum ALT levels, hsCRP levels and lipid profile of NAFLD patients.Clinical Trial Registration:https://prsinfo.clinicaltrials.gov/prs-users-guide.html, identifier NCT05613192

Objectives: To study the effects of bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) on adriamycin (ADR)induced chronic nephropathy in rats. Methods: 60 male Sprague-Dawley rats were distributed among 3 groups (20 rats each): (i) the negative control group, which was normal rats that received saline (vehicle); (ii) the positive control (ADR) group, which was rats that received 2 intravenous injections of ADR into the penile vein at 14 day intervals without treatment, and (iii) the MSC group, which were rats treated as for the ADR group that were also given 2 intravenous injections of MSCs (5 days after each ADR injection). Results: ADR caused a significant reduction in animal body mass, survival rate, hemoglobin (Hb) content, serum albumin, and renal GSH, and significantly increased serum levels of triglycerides, cholesterol, urinary protein excretion and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), renal MDA, as well as caspase-3 expression and glomerular and tubulointerstitial damage compared with the negative control group. MSC treatment failed to improve animal survival rate, body mass, Hb level, proteinuria, or hypoalbuminemia; however, it mildly improved the serum BUN, hyperlipidemia, caspase-3 expression, urinary levels of KIM-1, renal oxidative stress markers, and glomerular and tubulointerstitial damage score. Conclusion: administration of BM-MSCs during induction of ADR nephropathy provides partial protection, which could be due to improvements in the levels of of endogenous antioxidants, reduction of apoptosis, and maintenance of the integrity of the glomerular membrane. Objectifs : Etudier les effets des cellules souches mesenchymateuses derivees de la moelle osseuse (CSM-MO) sur la nephropathie chronique induite par l'adriamycine (ADR) chez le rat. Methode : 60 rats males Sprague-Dawley ont ete repartis en 3 groupes (20 rats chacun); (i) les rats normaux du groupe negatif controle ont recu de la saline comme vehicule; (ii) les rats dugroupe positif(ADR) ont recu 2 injections i.v. d'ADRdans la veine penienne a 14 jours d'intervalle sans autre traitement; (iii) les rats du groupe CSM ont ete traites comme le groupe ADR mais ont recu deux injections i.v. de CSM (5 jours apres chaque injection d'ADR). Resultats : L'ADR causait une reduction significative du poids corporel, du taux de survie, du contenu en Hb, de l'albumine serique et de la GSH renale, avec une augmentation significative des TG seriques, du cholesterol, de l'excretion proteique dans l'urine et de KIM-1, de la MDA renale, de l'expression de la caspase-3, et des dommages glomerulaires et tubulo-interstitiels, comparativement au groupe controle negatif. Le traitement aux CSM ne parvenait pas a ameliorer le taux de survie, le poids corporel, le niveau d'Hb, la proteinurie, l'hypoalbuminemie; cependant, il ameliorait legerement le BUN serique, l'hyperlipidemie, l'expression de la caspase-3, les niveaux urinaires de KIM-1, les marqueurs du stress oxydant renaux, et l'indice de dommage glomerulaire et tubulo-interstitiel. Conclusion : L'administration de CSM-MO durant l'induction de la nephropathie par l'ADR confere une protection partielle, qui pourrait etre due a l'amelioration des antioxydants endogenes, a la reduction de l'apoptose et au maintien de l'integrite de la membrane glomerulaire.
