3. Structural Study of the Methylnaphthazarins. X-Ray Structure of the Tetramethylnaphthazarin, a Charge Transfer Complex

Abstract

The synthesis and analysis by 1H NMR of the methyl substituted naphthazarins were attempted. The chemical shifts of the substituents and of the ring protons were compared with those in their diacetates and were then correlated with the quinonoid or benzenoid nature of the rings. X-Ray diffraction analysis of tetramethylnaphthazarin, 2,3,6,7-tetramethyl-5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, has shown that this exists, in solid state, as a centrosymmetric charge-transfer complex with itself. The compound crystallizes in the Ibamspace group, with an orthorhombic cell of dimensions a=17.479(1), b=9.983(1), c=6.752(1) Å, and four molecules in the unit cell. The crystal is built from molecules stacked up the c-axis and the interplanar distance between two overlapping molecules is 3.38 Å.

Abstract

□ A series of N8-alkyloxycarbonylalkyl-nortropane-3-spiro-5′-hydantoins has been synthesized and studied by spectral and crystallographic methods. The crystal and molecular structure of one [8(γ-ethoxycarbonylpropyl)nortropane-3-spiro-5′-hydantoin, VI] was determined by X-ray diffraction. The preferred conformations of these compounds and subsequent changes on protonation were determined from 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR data.

Abstract

Kröhnke condensation of several cycloimmonium salts with p-dimethylaminobenzaldhyde has been studied. X-Ray diffraction, IR and Raman spectra, 1H-and 13C-NMR and UV spectra of the products are discussed, being compared, when necessary, with the starting pyridinium salts. All compounds showed the Z configuration, corresponding to the more stable structure, except one, in which steric factors were predominant.

Abstract

Three 5-amino-4H-imidazole derivatives 2(2-pyridyl) and 2-ethoxycarbonyl-4,4-pentamethylene-5-amino-and 2(2-pyridyl)-4,4-dimethyl-5(2-pyridylamino)4H-imidazoles have been studied by i.r. and Raman spectroscopy. The crystal structure of one has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The tautomeric amino-imino equilibrium in different working conditions is also studied from spectroscopic data. The amino and the unconjugated imino forms are characterized. © 1985.

Abstract

3-Methyl-7-alkyl-3,7-diazabicyclo [3.3.1] nonan-9-ones and 9-ols have been studied by 1H, 13C NMF_IR and Raman spectroscopy and the crystal structure of 3,7-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[8.3.1] nonan-9-ol has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The ketones studied adopt in CDCl3 and (CD3)2SO solution a flattened chair-chair conformation; however, in the crystalline N-methyl N-benzyl derivative, the bicyclic system adopts a chair-boat conformation. X-ray data for 3,7-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo [3.3.1] nonan-9-ol have revealed that the compound has crystallized in a chair-chair conformation stabilized by water and ethanol molecules. Frc.a IR data the existence of another chair anhydrous crystalline form stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonding has been deduced. The preferred conformation in solution of the diazabycyclanols mainly depends on the polarity of the solvent. © 1985.
