Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic caught the health care systems of all countries unprepared. For the further education of healthcare personnel in the Republic of Kosovo, it became necessary to implement a concept for practical training in hygienic working. A video-conference–based educational concept to bridge the physical distance between Germany and Kosovo enabled the rapid, theoretical and practical transfer of knowledge. Methods: Current evidence on COVID-19 and Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) were researched. Healthcare staff in Pristina were advised and trained in ten online sessions on hygienic working under pandemic conditions via the “Logitech Rally for DFNconf” video conferencing system. The seminars were interpreted consecutively (Albanian). The Situational Judgement Test (HygiKo-SJT) should describe changes in participants’ hygiene knowledge.Results: A total of 25 people were trained in hygiene-related knowledge in terms of basic and specific hygiene for COVID-19. The weekly training sessions made it possible to address questions and subsequently provide practical knowledge. The HygiKo-SJT did not show a generalizable, measurable improvement in hygiene competence. Conclusion: Participants benefited from the concept and rapid implementation of a live video-conference–based seminar on “Hygiene under Pandemic Conditions”. The positive experience in terms of guidance, advice and training provides the basis for implementing a dedicated “Hygiene” module in Kosovo

The article presents a case study of a 42-year-old man who was presented with an acute injury to the right knee after falling from a 15 feet long ladder. He was in severe pain; the radiographs revealed a transverse fracture of the right proximal tibia and a fracture of the fibular head; a diagnosis of tibial plateau fracture was made. Open reduction and internal fixation was performed; with these fractures it is important to evaluate neurovascular compromise and concomitant soft-tissue injury.

The article offers information on the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for cauda equina syndrome (CES) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It says that CES is a rare illness resulting from compression of the cauda equina and caused by epidural abscess, spinal stenosis, and subluxation. The article discusses a case study of a 33-year-old male who was taken to the emergency department with palpitations and tremors of the extremities, diarrhea after each meal, insomnia, and fatigue. Physical examination, complete blood count and comprehensive metabolic panel tests were performed. These tests diagnosed diyrotoxicosis caused by Graves disease. The patient was offered propylthiouracil (PTU) treatment. It also offers information on Graves disease and various treatment procedures.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to test an intervention named ACCESS (Access for Cancer Caregivers to Education and Support for Shared Decision Making). The intervention uses private Facebook support groups to support and educate caregivers, preparing them to participate in shared decision-making during web-based hospice care plan meetings. The overall hypothesis behind the study was that family caregivers of hospice patients with cancer would experience lower anxiety and depression as a result of participating in an online Facebook support group and shared decision-making with hospice staff in a web-based care plan meeting., Methods: This is a cluster cross-over randomised three-arm clinical trial where one group participated in both the Facebook group and the care plan team meeting. A second group participated only in the Facebook group and the third group was a control group and received usual hospice care., Results: There were 489 family caregivers who participated in the trial. There were no statistically significant differences between the ACCESS intervention group and the Facebook only or the control group on any outcome. The participants in the Facebook only group, however, experienced a statistically significant decrease in depression compared with the enhanced usual care group., Conclusions: While the ACCESS intervention group did not experience significant improvement in outcomes, caregivers assigned to the Facebook only group showed significant improvement in depression scores from baseline as compared with the enhanced usual care control group.
