The article discusses the efforts by Portland State University (PSU) students in 2018 to document the history of residential segregation in Portland, Oregon. Also cited are the direct and indirect racial restriction languages in new housing development advertisements, the use by the city of racially restrictive covenants to achieve residential segregation in early 20th century, and the 1948 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court claiming that the racial covenants were illegal.

Simple Summary: Sarcomas are a group of rare and aggressive cancers, which develop in bones and connective tissue throughout the body. Sarcomas are different to other types of cancer. Differences include the fast progression of the cancer and late diagnoses. This leads to distress for patients and carers, which can lead to negative experiences for carers after bereavement. In this this study we aimed to explore the experiences of bereaved family carers of people diagnosed with sarcoma. We conducted interviews with sixteen bereaved carers and found that bereaved carers thought about their experiences as a journey. Sarcomas are a group of rare and aggressive cancers, which develop in bones and connective tissue throughout the body. Sarcomas account for only 1–2% of all cancers worldwide; however, mortality rates for sarcoma are high with approximately two in four sarcoma patients dying following a diagnosis. Delays in diagnosis, poor management of symptoms, patients' high symptom loads and high carer burden are all associated with carer distress, which may lead to complications after bereavement. The experience of having a family member referred for palliative care is also distressing for carers, with the realisation that their family member is dying. This study aimed to explore the experiences of bereaved family carers of people diagnosed with sarcoma. A qualitative descriptive design using a social constructionist framework was adopted. Interviews were conducted with sixteen participants, and thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in the data. Four overarching themes emerged: beginning the journey; moving through treatment; transitioning to palliative care; and experiencing bereavement. The narratives were coherent and potent, and people reflected on their journeys. Interventions and supports for bereaved carers could include opportunities for counselling to support reflections, supports for developing a narrative such as writing therapy, and preparation for the death of the family member. Purpose: We evaluated the effectiveness of an online activity-focussed programme to decrease fatigue in people with prior Guillain-Barré Syndrome and explored the perspectives of participants regarding the acceptability and feasibility of the programme., Materials and Methods: We recruited eight people diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome more than two years previously who still had fatigue limiting daily activity. We used mixed methods with a replicated single system design using repeated outcome measures across the three phases (baseline, intervention, follow-up) to evaluate the impact of the intervention on fatigue, activity, wellbeing and confidence to exercise. We used qualitative interviews to explore participants' perspectives of the programme., Results: All participants developed a personalized plan to manage fatigue using goals and feedback, which was effective in reducing fatigue for most participants. Participants were positive about what they had learnt about fatigue, themselves and strategies to manage fatigue. Some participants also experienced improvements in activity, exercise confidence and health and wellbeing. Not all changes were sustained past the follow-up period, which reflects participants' differing levels of confidence to continue with their plan., Conclusion: Graduated physical activity in association with developing a personalised plan were key features effective in managing fatigue after Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

One of the promising opportunities of digital health is its potential to lead to more holistic understandings of diseases by interacting with the daily life of patients and through the collection of large amounts of real-world data. Validating and benchmarking indicators of disease severity in the home setting is difficult, however, given the large number of confounders present in the real world and the challenges in collecting ground truth data in the home. Here we leverage two datasets collected from patients with Parkinson's disease, which couples continuous wrist-worn accelerometer data with frequent symptom reports in the home setting, to develop digital biomarkers of symptom severity. Using these data, we performed a public benchmarking challenge in which participants were asked to build measures of severity across 3 symptoms (on/off medication, dyskinesia, and tremor). 42 teams participated and performance was improved over baseline models for each subchallenge.
