The aim of the study was to evaluate the association of the quality of diet as calculated by the Nutrient Rich Food index (NRF9.3), and length of service (LS) (≤10 years vs. >10 years) with selected serum biochemical parameters, the proportions of different lipid profile fractions and advanced glycation endproduct (AGE) values of 108 firefighters from the State Fire Service in Wroclaw. The LS officers > 10 years had significantly higher total cholesterol (211.50 (184.00–254.00) vs. 184.00 (166.00–194.00)), LDL (123.75 (108.20–167.90) vs. 105.18 (90.24–119.00)) non-HDL (151.70 (132.00–196.70) vs. 122.00 (106.00–140.00)), triglycerides (118.50 (96.00–158.00) vs. 78.00 (67.00–103.00)) and lower HDL concentrations (51.30 (45.60–56.70) vs. 58.00 (51.70–66.10)) compared to firefighters in the LS ≤ 10 years group. Significant differences between the seniority groups were also noted for all lipid profile ratios. Regardless of the officers' seniority, systolic blood pressure was observed at the highest normal level of 134.4 ± 14.4 in the LS ≤ 10 years group and 139.5 ± 14.3 in the LS > 10 years group. Advanced glycation endproduct values were significantly dependent on diet quality, as expressed by the NRF9.3 index and on the TG/HDL ratio, but not on seniority. Diet quality, as expressed by the NRF9.3 index, had a significant association with GLU and FI levels, and components of the lipid profile between seniority groups. As NRF9.3 increased, TG/HDL, LDL/HDL, TC/HDL, and non-HDL/HDL ratios decreased. AGEs were significantly affected by NRF9.3 and significantly associated with TG/HDL. Firefighters' diets, as assessed by the NRF9.3 index, had a significant association with predictors of insulin resistance, diabetes, and cardiometabolic predictors between seniority groups. The nutritional education of firefighters (and other professional groups working irregularly), especially those with longer tenure (e.g., >10 years), is necessary to prevent the development of, e.g., CVD, MetS, and T2DM, which contribute towards a reduced ability to perform professional duties. Simple Summary: Colorectal cancer can be associated with liver metastasis and may be treated by minimal liver surgery using laparoscopic approaches and robotic surgery. Robotic surgery is of significant use in colorectal surgery and urology. However, there is still no long-term evidence concerning overall survival, and the number of patients operated on using this method remains small. Given the numerous benefits of robotic surgery and the concomitant small number of studies, we conducted a meta-analysis of the operative and short-term oncologic outcomes of laparoscopic versus robotic-assisted liver resection for colorectal liver metastases. The results of the meta-analysis show small differences in blood loss and conversion to open laparotomy rates in favor of robotic surgery. There were no differences in 30-day mortality, and there were also no differences in 1-year, 2-year, or 3-year mortality. The results indicate that both surgical methods are comparable in efficacy and safety. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, and the liver is the most common localization of metastatic disease. The incidence of minimally invasive liver surgery is increasing, and robotic surgery (RLR) is believed to overcome some limitations of a laparoscopic approach (LRL). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of operative and short-term oncologic outcomes of the laparoscopic versus robotic-assisted liver resection for colorectal liver metastases. An online search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane databases was performed. Eight studies involving 3210 patients were considered eligible for the meta-analysis. In the LRL group, a higher conversion to open rate (12.4%) was observed compared to the RLR (6.7%; p = <0.001). 30-day mortality was 0.7% for the LRL group compared to 0.5% for the RLR group (p = 0.76). Mortality in longer periods among LLR and RLR amounted to 18.2% vs. 8.0% for 1-year mortality (p = 0.07), 34.1% vs. 26.7% for 2-year mortality (p = 0.13), and 52.3% vs. 48.3% for 3-year mortality (p = 0.46). The length of hospital stay was 5.6 ± 2.5 vs. 5.8 ± 2.1 days, respectively (p = 0.47). There were no significant differences between the incidence of individual complications in the LRL and RLR groups (p = 0.78). Laparoscopic or robotic approaches for colorectal liver metastases are comparable in terms of safety and effectiveness. There are significant advantages to robotic surgery, although there is still no long-term evidence concerning overall survival, and the number of patients operated on using RLR remains small. The text considers several critical issues related to the role of false information in the COVID-19 pandemic. It mainly focuses on social media, which often resemble echo chambers responsible for disseminating disinformation. In these echo chambers, users close themselves off from arguments and justifications different from their own, often with a strong tendency towards polarization of views and attitudes. A particular case of echo chambers is the conspiracy mentality propagated in social media, promoting conspirational beliefs about COVID-19, which, besides offering an alternative understanding of reality, deepens distrust towards epistemic authorities and methods of producing scientific knowledge. This indicates an epistemic crisis as a consequence of the pandemic, which must be addressed in order to rebuild and protect epistemic trust. The authors conclude that the consequence of this crisis is a regression of cognitive abilities, which may, in a feedback loop, exacerbate the epistemic crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION: Several factors influence spontaneous circulation (ROSC) return in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients, and obesity can be one of them. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of obesity on ROSC in patients following OHCA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study and analyzed 4,925,214 emergency medical system (EMS) records. Finally, data from 33,636 OHCA patients in Poland for whom EMS personnel responded between January 2021 and June 2022 were analyzed. RESULTS: The univariate analysis showed an association between ROSC and age (p < 0.001, OR: 0.981), location of the incident (p < 0.001, OR: 1.6), OHCA initial rhythm (p < 0.001, OR: 2.056), obesity (p ≈ 0.003 OR: 1.1.06) and some comorbidities. In the first multivariate model (whole population sample), significant predictors of ROSC were initial rhythm (Asystole/PEA; p < 0.001; OR: 0.516), age (p < 0.001; OR: 0.986), location of the incident (p < 0.001; OR: 1.468) and obesity (p = 0.023; OR: 0.924). In the second model (patients without obesity), the significant predictors (p < 0.001) of ROSC were initial rhythm (Asystole/PEA, OR: 0.263), public location of the incident (OR: 2.158) and age (OR: 0.986). In the third model (patients with obesity), the significant predictors of ROSC were initial rhythm (Asystole/PEA, p = 0.002; OR: 0.443), public location of the incident (p < 0.001; OR: 2.101), age (p < 0.001; OR: 0.981), and stroke (p = 0.005; OR: 2.047). CONCLUSIONS: In the study population of OHCA patients, obesity significantly predicted the odds of the prehospital return of spontaneous circulation, reducing the odds by 8.2%. In the overall study population and the groups of patients with and without obesity, OHCA in public places and ventricular fibrillation/pulsless ventricular tachycardia (VF/pVT) initiating rhythm were predictors of increased odds of ROSC and older age reduced these odds. INTRODUCTION: Video-sharing platforms have become popular and widely used sources of information today. The Internet is an accessible source for individuals, medical students, and healthcare professionals to acquire knowledge when searching for health-related information. Access to information has increased with the widespread use of the Internet today. Recognition of sudden cardiac arrest and initiating interventions according to current guidelines can be achieved through education. This study aims to assess the accuracy of BLS and CPR videos on YouTube following the 2020 AHA Resuscitation Guidelines. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study follows a cross-sectional analytical design. The YouTube website was searched using the following keywords for Turkish videos uploaded from October 21, 2020, to September 7, 2023: 'CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, basic life support, CPR, advanced cardiac life support'. October 21, 2020, was chosen as the reference date since it marks the publication date of the 2020 AHA guidelines. RESULTS: A total of 265 Turkish videos were evaluated from all videos uploaded to YouTube. The analysis included 130 videos that met the inclusion criteria. CONCLUSIONS: Turkish BLS and CPR YouTube videos violate the 2020 AHA criteria for offering basic information to the public and cannot teach healthcare workers advanced medical skills. The greater viewing of anonymous sources' videos suggests that non-experts are submitting videos on hot themes to gain viewers. Having these instructional films reviewed before releasing them to YouTube will ensure accurate, complete, and valuable health information and enhance viewing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
