Background Research has linked homelessness with an increased risk of skin conditions. However, representative studies of diagnosis-specific information on skin conditions in people experiencing homelessness are lacking. Objectives To examine the association between homelessness and diagnosed skin conditions, prescribed medication and type of ­consultation. Methods This cohort study included data from the Danish nationwide health, social and administrative registers from 1 January 1999 to 31 December 2018. All people of Danish origin living in Denmark and aged at least 15 years at some point during the study period were included. Homelessness, measured by homeless shelter contacts, was the exposure. The outcome was any diagnosis of a skin disorder and specific skin disorders recorded in the Danish National Patient Register. Information on diagnostic consultation type (i.e. dermatological, nondermatological and emergency room) and dermatological prescriptions was studied. We estimated adjusted incidence rate ratio (aIRR) (adjusted for sex, age and calendar year) and cumulative incidence. Results In total, 5 054 238 individuals (50.6% female) were included in the study population, accounting for 73 477 258 person-years at risk, with a start mean (SD) age of 39.4 (21.1) years. Of the total number of individuals, 759 991 (15.0%) received a skin diagnosis and 38 071 (0.7%) experienced homelessness. A 2.31-times [95% confidence interval (CI) 2.25–2.36] higher IRR of any diagnosed skin condition was associated with homelessness, higher for nondermatological and emergency room consultations. Homelessness was associated with a reduced IRR of a skin neoplasm diagnosis (aIRR 0.76, 95% CI 0.71–8.82) compared with no homelessness. By the end of follow-up, 2.8% (95% CI 2.5–3.0) of individuals experiencing homelessness had a skin neoplasm diagnosis vs. 5.1% (95% CI 4.9–5.3) of individuals not experiencing homelessness. Five or more shelter contacts during the first year from first contact was associated with the highest aIRR of any diagnosed skin condition (7.33, 95% CI 5.57–9.65) compared with no contacts. Conclusions Individuals experiencing homelessness have high rates of most diagnosed skin conditions, but a lower occurrence of skin cancer diagnosis. Diagnostic and medical patterns for skin disorders differed clearly between people experiencing homelessness and individuals without these experiences. The time after first homeless shelter contact is an important window of opportunity for mitigating and preventing skin disorders.

It is found predominantly in white populations and risk factors include advanced age, ultraviolet exposure, male sex, immunosuppression, such as AIDS/HIV infection, haematological malignancies or solid organ transplantation, and Merkel cell polyomavirus infection. MCC is an aggressive tumour with 26% of cases presenting lymph node involvement at diagnosis and 8% with distant metastases. Five-year overall survival rates range between 48% and 63%. Two subsets of MCC have been characterised with distinct molecular pathogenetic pathways: ultraviolet-induced MCC versus virus-positive MCC, which carries a better prognosis. In both subtypes, there are alterations in the retinoblastoma protein and p53 gene structure and function. MCC typically manifests as a red nodule or plaque with fast growth, most commonly on sun exposed areas. Histopathology (small-cell neuroendocrine appearance) and immunohistochemistry (CK20 positivity and TTF-1 negativity) confirm the diagnosis. The current staging systems are the American Joint Committee on Cancer/Union for international Cancer control 8th edition. Baseline whole body imaging is encouraged to rule out regional and distant metastasis. For localised MCC, first-line treatment is surgical excision with postoperative margin assessment followed by adjuvant radiation therapy (RT). Sentinel lymph node biopsy is recommended in all patients with MCC without clinically detectable lymph nodes or distant metastasis. Adjuvant RT alone, eventually combined with complete lymph nodes dissection is proposed in case of micrometastatic nodal involvement. In case of macroscopic nodal involvement, the standard of care is complete lymph nodes dissection potentially followed by post-operative RT. Immunotherapy with anti-PD-(L)1 antibodies should be offered as first-line systemic treatment in advanced MCC. Chemotherapy can be used when patients fail to respond or are intolerant for anti-PD-(L)1 immunotherapy or clinical trials.

The two main subtypes of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphomas include the most frequent, mycosis fungoides (MF), and the rare leukemic variant, Sézary syndrome (SS). MF presents as cutaneous patches and can progress to plaques, tumors and erythroderma. SS is characterized by the presence of erythroderma, generalized lymphadenopathy and clonal T cells in the peripheral blood, consistent with a poorer prognosis. Histologically, early CTCL lesions are sometimes indistinguishable from more common inflammatory skin diseases and a clinico-pathological correlation is essential for an accurate diagnosis. Except for allogenic stem-cell transplantation, therapy is generally palliative and aims to improve patient quality of life.

DUSP22 gene rearrangements are recurrent in systemic and cutaneous ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphomas, rarely encountered in other cutaneous CD30+ lymphoproliferations, and typically absent in other peripheral T-cell lymphomas. We report the case of a 51-year-old woman, with longstanding celiac disease and a rapidly enlarging leg ulcer, due to a DUSP22-rearranged CD30+ T-cell lymphoproliferation. Subsequent history revealed an intestinal enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL). Identical monoclonal TR gene rearrangements and mutations in STAT3 and JAK1 typical of EATL were present in the cutaneous and intestinal lesions. No DUSP22 rearrangement was detected in the patient's intestinal tumour, nor in 15 additional EATLs tested. These findings indicate that DUSP22 rearrangements are not entirely specific of ALCLs, may rarely occur as a secondary aberration in EATL, and expand the differential diagnosis of DUSP22-rearranged cutaneous CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders.

Background Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) is curable if detected in its early stages. However, the clinical recognition of CMM is challenging. An American research group has shown promising results in detecting CMM based on RNA profiles sampled from suspicious lesions with tape strips. We aim to further develop this technique and validate if RNA profiles sampled with tape strips can detect CMM. Methods This prospective cohort study will include approximately 200 lesions clinically suspected of CMM requiring surgical removal. Tape stripping of the lesions will be performed just before surgical excision. Subsequently, RNA on the tape strips is analyzed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction with TaqMan technology. The results are combined into a binary outcome where positive indicates CMM and negative indicates no CMM. The histopathological diagnosis of the lesions will be used as the gold standard. The main outcome is the results of the RNA test and the histopathological diagnosis, which, combined, provide the sensitivity and specificity of the test. Discussion The accuracy of the clinical examination in CMM diagnostics is limited. This clinical trial will explore the ability to use RNA analysis to improve the management of suspicious lesions by enhancing early diagnostic accuracy. Hopefully, it can reduce the number of benign lesions being surgically removed to rule out CMM and decrease patient morbidity. Trial registration The project was approved by The Committee on Health Research Ethics of the Capital Region of Denmark (H-15010559) and registered at the Danish Data Protection Agency (BFH-2015-065).

Merkel cell carcinoma is a neuroendocrine skin carcinoma caused by the Merkel cell virus and ultraviolet radiation. Approximately 25 Danish patients are diagnosed each year. Merkel cell carcinoma is often located on the sun-exposed areas of the skin and definitive diagnosis is made by the pathologist. Patients are treated at the department of plastic surgery and oncology with treatment modalities including surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy as summarised in this review.

Mycosis fungoides (MF) and Sezary syndrome (SS) are primary cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) with not yet fully understood etiology and pathogenesis. Conceptually, MF and SS are classified as distinct entities arising from different T helper cell subsets. MF is the most common CTCL entity, while SS is very rare. MF presents clinically with patch, plaque and/or tumor stages, but can also evolve as erythroderma, which in turn is pathognomonic for SS. SS is characterized by a detectable tumor-cell burden (Sezary cells) in the peripheral blood consistent with advanced-stage disease and a poor prognosis. In early-stage disease of MF, which is the predominant form, the prognosis is generally favorable. However, in up to 30 % of patients, there is progression of skin lesions, which can ultimately lead to visceral involvement. The histological manifestation of MF can be subtle in early-stage disease and therefore a careful clinicopathological correlation is paramount. The treatment of MF/SS is dependent on the disease stage. Therapeutic options include both skin-directed and systemic regimens. Apart from allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT), there is as yet no curative therapy for MF/SS. Accordingly, the treatment approach is symptom oriented and aims to reduce the tumor burden and improve health-related quality of life. However, the therapeutic landscape for CTCL is constantly being expanded by the discovery of novel therapeutic targets.

In 2020, we have seen patients with neglected skin cancer in the context of the COVID pandemic. But what is the global health impact of the pandemic on skin cancer patients ? Is it as high as the delayed care of a heart infarct ? To answer this question, we have confronted a theoretic, a probabilistic and a scientific approach. These analyses allow us to conclude that the impact overall was moderate. It allows to draw general guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer for future pandemics.

A 48-year-old man was referred for an evaluation of deviations in the pigmentation of the lower lip, intra-oral swelling and persistent numbness of the sensory area of the left mental nerve. In 2011, the diagnosis lentigo maligna of the lower lip was missed by histopathology of a biopsy performed elsewhere. In 2016, the numbness of the lower lip and chin was diagnosed by a neurologist as numb chin of unknown cause. A biopsy in 2017 showed lentigo maligna of the lower lip alongside a primary mucosal melanoma with significant local invasion. Treatment consisted of a hemimandibulectomy with a supraomohyoid neck dissection of the left side. This case shows the importance of the alarm symptom 'a numb lip' and the corresponding necessity of additional investigation. This article shows avoidable pitfalls that general practitioners, dentists and medical specialists need to be vigilant about.

International audience; The prognosis of advanced melanoma has been greatly improved by new therapeutic agents and clinicians rely on dynamic signals to drive their therapeutic choices. Although the kinetics of metastatic disease seem to be correlated with survival, progression of the localized disease is not predictable.Objective: To assess whether progression of metastatic disease is associated with the time to the first distant recurrence of melanoma.Design, Setting, and Participants: This study was conducted from March 1, 2013, to September 1, 2017, among 638 adults with unresectable stage III or IV melanoma within the French multicentric prospective cohort MelBase. Patients treated with first-line immunotherapies, targeted therapies, or chemotherapy were included. Patients with unknown primary or de novo metastatic melanoma were not included. Data were analyzed from March 1, 2013, to December 1, 2017.Main Outcomes and Measures: The date of primary excision and time to first distant recurrence, progression-free survival, and overall survival were collected. Cox proportional hazards regression models were planned to assess the association between time to first distant recurrence and progression-free survival or overall survival, which was evaluated in terms of hazard ratio (HR). Time to recurrence was analyzed both as a continuous and categorical variable (24 months).Results: A total of 638 patients (272 women and 366 men; median age, 64 years [interquartile range, 52-73 years]) were included in the study. The median time from primary excision to first distant recurrence was 25 months (interquartile range, 12-55 months). There was no evidence of association of the time to recurrence with progression-free survival, both when analyzed as a continuous variable (HR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.99-1.01) or after categorization (12-24 months: HR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.56-1.02; >24 months: HR, 0.62; 95% CI; 0.47-1.01). There was no evidence of association of the time to recurrence with overall survival, both when analyzed as a continuous variable (HR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.98-1.02) or after categorization (12-24 months: HR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.54-1.07; >24 months: HR, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.54-1.03). Those results remained nonsignificant after stratification by treatment.Conclusions and Relevance: In the MelBase cohort, time to recurrence of metastatic melanoma appears not to be associated with progression-free survival or overall survival.

Skin cancer has become the most common type of cancer worldwide as a result of environmental exposure and medical treatments. A small group of patients are genetically predisposed to skin cancer and this article is intended as a diagnostic tool when encountering patients with multiple skin cancer lesions. The disorders are described with clinical characteristics, genetics and management. The most common syndromes associated with basal cell carcinoma are: Gorlin-Goltz syndrome, Rombo syndrome, and Bazex-Dupré-Christol syndrome. Multiple squamous cell carcinomas can be related to: xeroderma pigmentosum, Ferguson-Smith, Muir-Torre syndrome, Mibelli-type porokeratosis, keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness syndrome, Rothmund- Thomson syndrome, Bloom syndrome, and epidermodysplasia verruciformis. Malignant melanoma can be inherited, as in familial atypical multiple mole melanoma syndrome.

Resumo O lentigo maligno é um melanoma in situ, de crescimento radial e lento, que acomete áreas fotoexpostas principalmente em idosos. Quando acomete a pálpebra, devido à proximidade a um órgão nobre, a conduta é controversa, porém a cirurgia é o método mais usado, com margens que variam de acordo com a referência utilizada. Terapias conservadoras são descritas, como o imiquimode 5% e a radioterapia. O presente relato tem como objetivo demonstrar a escassez de estudos sobre a margem cirúrgica e citar opções de tratamentos não cirúrgicos para o lentigo maligno da face. Abstract Lentigo maligna is a melanoma in situ, of slow radial growth, which affects sun-exposed areas, especially in the elderly. When it affects the eyelid, due to the proximity to a noble organ, the conduct is controversial, but surgery is the method most commonly used, with with margins varying according to the reference used. Conservative treatments are described, such as imiquimod 5% and radiotherapy. This report aims to demonstrate the lack of studies on the surgical margin, and to name nonsurgical treatment options for lentigo maligna of the face.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is one of the most common cancers in Caucasian populations, accounting for 20% of all cutaneous malignancies. A unique collaboration of multi-disciplinary experts from the European Dermatology Forum (EDF), the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO) and the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) was formed to make recommendations on cSCC diagnosis and management, based on a critical review of the literature, existing guidelines and the expert's experience. The diagnosis of cSCC is primarily based on clinical features. A biopsy or excision and histologic confirmation should be performed in all clinically suspicious lesions in order to facilitate the prognostic classification and correct management of cSCC. The first line treatment of cutaneous SCC is complete surgical excision with histopathological control of excision margins. The EDF-EADO-EORTC consensus group recommends a standardised minimal margin of 5mm even for low-risk tumours. For tumours, with histological thickness of >6mm or in tumours with high risk pathological features, e.g. high histological grade, subcutaneous invasion, perineural invasion, recurrent tumours and/or tumours at high risk locations an extended margin of 10mm is recommended. As lymph node involvement by cSCC increases the risk of recurrence and mortality, a lymph node ultrasound is highly recommended, particularly in tumours with high-risk characteristics. In the case of clinical suspicion or positive findings upon imaging, a histologic confirmation should be sought either by fine needle aspiration or by open lymph node biopsy. In large infiltrating tumours with signs of involvement of underlying structures, additional imaging tests, such as CT or MRI imaging may be required to accurately assess the extent of the tumour and the presence of metastatic spread. Current staging systems for cSCC are not optimal, as they have been developed for head and neck tumours and lack extensive validation or adequate prognostic discrimination in certain stages with heterogeneous outcome measures. Sentinel lymph node biopsy has been used in patients with cSCC, but there is no conclusive evidence of its prognostic or therapeutic value. In the case of lymph node involvement by cSCC, the preferred treatment is a regional lymph node dissection. Radiation therapy represents a fair alternative to surgery in the non-surgical treatment of small cSCCs in low risk areas. It generally should be discussed either as a primary treatment for inoperable cSCC or in the adjuvant setting. Stage IV cSCC can be responsive to various chemotherapeutic agents; however, there is no standard regimen. EGFR inhibitors such as cetuximab or erlotinib, should be discussed as second line treatments after mono- or polychemotherapy failure and disease progression or within the framework of clinical trials. There is no standardised follow-up schedule for patients with cSCC. A close follow-up plan is recommended based on risk assessment of locoregional recurrences, metastatic spread or development of new lesions.

Subungual exostosis is an acquired, benign, often painful, and nearly always solitary bone tumor usually occurring in the dorsal medial aspect of the phalanges. An eighteen-year-old male patient presented with a progressively enlarging mass and pain that developed over two years in the distal medial aspect of the right first toe. Conventional radiographs, computed tomography, and histopathologic findings showed subungual exostosis. Complete removal of the tumor was performed including its base of in the cortex of the phalanx. No recurrence was observed during a follow-up of 11 months. It was emphasized that clinical presentation of subungual exostosis may resemble other benign or malignant bone tumors., Subungual ekzostoz selim, gelişimi sıklıkla edinsel olan ve ayak distal falanks dorsal medial yüzde görülen ağrılı soliter bir tümördür. Sağ ayak başparmağında iki yıldır var olan kitle ve ağrı şikayetiyle başvuran 16 yaşındaki erkek hastada, yapılan radyolojik ve histopatolojik incelemeler sonucu subungual ekzostoz tanısı kondu. Tümör, falanks kortikal yüzeyinden zemini ile birlikte tümüyle çıkarıldı. Hastanın 11 aylık izleminde nüks gözlenmedi. Subungual ekzostozun klinik olarak diğer benign kemik tümörleri ve lezyonlarıyla ve epidermoid karsinom gibi malign tümörlerle karışabileceği unutulmamalıdır.

Zij spelen dus een belangrijke rol bij de vroegtijdige detectie van huidkanker zoals het basaalcelcarcinoom, het plaveiselcelcarcinoom, het melanoom en detectie van premaligne huidafwijkingen. Door de spectaculaire toename van de incidentie van alle vormen van huidkanker, wordt de groep patiënten die diagnostiek en behandeling behoeft steeds groter. Daarom is het voor de huisarts, maar ook voor de dermatoloog, van groot belang om deze toename met betere transmurale zorg in goede banen te leiden.Met huidtumoren worden al dan niet gepigmenteerde afwijkingen bedoeld zoals naevi, papels of wratten, die klinisch zowel benigne als maligne kunnen imponeren. De grote meerderheid van de huidtumoren die de huisarts beoordeelt, is echter benigne.1Het is bekend dat in de praktijk een aantal huidafwijkingen die op klinische gronden als ‘benigne’ worden beoordeeld, wordt behandeld met cryotherapie, curettage, ‘shaven’ of excisie zonder histopathologisch onderzoek., General practitioners (GPs) in the Netherlands frequently assess skin tumours such as moles. However, the training of medical students, GP trainees and postgraduate training of GPs in evaluating these skin lesions is limited. Furthermore, literature is scarce and no guidelines are available. It is still unclear when histopathological evaluation of an excised skin lesion should be performed. Additional research in primary care populations and the development of a guideline would promote a more unambiguous approach. More (postgraduate) education is needed on this topic. Dermatoscopy and teledermatology might also play a role in improving care.

We report a case of xeroderma pigmentosum in a 9-year-old back Cameroonian boy. The diagnosis was based on typical clinical presentation of the disease: cutaneous atrophy, hypepigmented macules, and areas of depigmentation on sun exposed regions of the skin. Multiple tumoral lesions were localized on the head. Ocular findings were also present: conjunctival hyperemia, peripheral corneal opacification. Excision of the tumors and potoprotection was proposed for this patient. The role of tribal black African marriage traditions in disease transmission is discussed.

Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas represent a group of malignant lymphoproliferative disorders characterised by the occurrence of a monoclonal population of T-lymphocytes. Diagnosis of early stages of this disease is a difficult challenge for both the dermatologist and the dermatopathologist. With the aid of the polymerase chain reaction it is possible to amplify specific regions of the T-cell receptor gamma gene. The amplification products can then be separated by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis in order to detect a monoclonal population of T-lymphocytes in the infiltrate. We studied 4 patients with the clinicopathologic diagnosis of mycosis fungoides and 2 patients diagnosed as large plaque parapsoriasis. A monoclonal population was detected in 3 of the 4 mycosis fungoides cases and in 1 of the patients with large plaque parapsoriasis. This indicates that our analysis can help us establishing a diagnosis, and it can also help us to identify patients with a possible early stage of the disease, which clinically or histologically is not yet recognised as such.

Over the past few decades, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy coupled to microscopy has been recognized as an emerging and potentially powerful tool in cancer research and diagnosis. For this purpose, histological analyses performed by pathologists are mostly carried out on biopsied tissue that undergoes the formalin-fixation and paraffin-embedding (FFPE) procedure. This processing method ensures an optimal and permanent preservation of the samples, making FFPE-archived tissue an extremely valuable source for retrospective studies. Nevertheless, as highlighted by previous studies, this fixation procedure significantly changes the principal constituents of cells, resulting in important effects on their infrared (IR) spectrum. Despite the chemical and spectral influence of FFPE processing, some studies demonstrate that FTIR imaging allows precise identification of the different cell types present in biopsied tissue, indicating that the FFPE process preserves spectral differences between distinct cell types. In this study, we investigated whether this is also the case for closely related cell lines. We analyzed spectra from 8 cancerous epithelial cell lines: 4 breast cancer cell lines and 4 melanoma cell lines. For each cell line, we harvested cells at subconfluence and divided them into two sets. We first tested the "original" capability of FTIR imaging to identify these closely related cell lines on cells just dried on BaF2 slides. We then repeated the test after submitting the cells to the FFPE procedure. Our results show that the IR spectra of FFPE processed cancerous cell lines undergo small but significant changes due to the treatment. The spectral modifications were interpreted as a potential decrease in the phospholipid content and protein denaturation, in line with the scientific literature on the topic. Nevertheless, unsupervised analyses showed that spectral proximities and distances between closely related cell lines were mostly, but not entirely, conserved after FFPE processing. Finally, PLS-DA statistical analyses highlighted that closely related cell lines are still successfully identified and efficiently distinguished by FTIR spectroscopy after FFPE treatment. Recently image analysis (IA) and DNA-cytophotometry (CP) have proved to be useful for the differentiation between benign and malignant melanocytic lesions on paraffin sections. Since, on sections, these procedures are very time-consuming, we tested in the present study whether IA of imprint specimens, which can be evaluated in less than 30 minutes, might also be sufficient. In 39 malignant melanomas (MM), 18 melanocytic nevi (MN), and 6 dysplastic nevi (DN), 12 different morphometric and DNA cytometric features were determined in 100 randomly selected nuclei. In univariate analysis, 5 features were found to be significantly different between the benign and malignant groups (p < 0.0001): mean value (MAREA) and standard deviation (SAREA) of nuclear area and the 80th, 90th, and 95th percentiles of DNA distribution. Using SAREA, the best univariate feature, 82.5% of the cases could be correctly separated. In multivariate analysis with a combination of three features--standard deviation of nuclear area (SAREA), mean DNA value (MDNA), and 95th percentile of DNA distribution (PERC95)--a correct diagnosis was achieved in 89.5% of the cases. Results obtained in the cases of DN indicated an increased proliferation, but did not allow the separation of DN from MM and MN. Since our technique allows a rapid analysis without loss of tissue, which might be important for histological analysis, and the classification rates are equal or still higher than reported in studies on sections, imprints of melanocytic lesions seem to be most appropriate for the calculation of DNA cytometric features as helpful diagnostic criteria in equivocal melanocytic lesions.

Resumo O lentigo maligno é um melanoma in situ, de crescimento radial e lento, que acomete áreas fotoexpostas principalmente em idosos. Quando acomete a pálpebra, devido à proximidade a um órgão nobre, a conduta é controversa, porém a cirurgia é o método mais usado, com margens que variam de acordo com a referência utilizada. Terapias conservadoras são descritas, como o imiquimode 5% e a radioterapia. O presente relato tem como objetivo demonstrar a escassez de estudos sobre a margem cirúrgica e citar opções de tratamentos não cirúrgicos para o lentigo maligno da face.

The histologic and immunohistologic differential diagnosis between pseudolymphomas (PL) and malignant lymphomas (ML) of the skin can be difficult. Since DNA cytometry has been found to be of both diagnostic and prognostic value in various neoplasms, its ability to discriminate between ML and PL in Feulgen-stained imprints of 17 PL and 49 ML skin biopsies was examined by high-resolution image analysis. The reliability of the following algorithms of DNA distribution was evaluated: 1) 2cDI (2c-deviation index), which reflects the variation of the nuclear DNA values around the diploid DNA peak; 2) percentage of cells having a DNA value greater than or equal to 5c (5cER; 5c-exceeding rate); 3) percentage of cells presenting with a DNA value greater than or equal to 4c (4cER). A 2cDI of 0.1 was found to be the most reliable marker for the differentiation between PL and ML. On the basis of this feature, 16 of 17 cases of PL and 46 of 49 cases of ML were correctly classified. The sensitivity, specificity, and efficiency of this feature were 94%. A 5cER greater than or equal to 1% had a specificity of 100%, but the sensitivity was only 43%. For the 4cER, a sensitivity of 61% and a specificity of 94% were found. In conclusion, the calculation of the 2cDI and the 5cER based on high-resolution image analysis provided additional helpful diagnostic features, and therefore should be included as a diagnostic tool. If the 5cER is at least 1%, the diagnosis of a ML can be confirmed with a specificity of 100%.
