The first objective of this literature review was to identify reviews the barriers to optimal COPD care, categorizing them into personal patient factors, professional awareness and knowledge, patient-professional relationships, and healthcare service models, including access to care that significantly impacts the quality of COPD management. The second objective was to introduce three approaches for enhancing COPD care outcomes: Self-Management Educational Programs, Health Qigong, and Telehealth service provision, each demonstrating positive effects on COPD patients’ health status. These evidence-based interventions offer promising avenues for enhancing COPD care and patient outcomes. Integrating these approaches into comprehensive COPD management strategies holds potential for improving the well-being and quality of life of individuals living with this chronic condition.Keywords: pulmonary disease, chronic obstructive, health qigong, telehealth, self-management education

However, a local validation of the questionnaire is lacking in Hong Kong.Objective: To develop a Chinese version of MRADLQ with pictorial enhancement (C-MRADLQ) and study its reliability and validity.Patients and Methods: A total of 238 patients suffering from COPD were recruited from nine public hospitals and five Nurse and Allied Health Respiratory Clinics by convenient sampling. A total of 64 patients with normal spirometry results and no previous clinical diagnosis of COPD were invited to complete the C-MRADLQ for comparison and examination of its validity. Ten out of 302 patients were re-assessed with the C-MRADLQ after one week by the same rater for test–retest reliability. The C-MRADLQ was correlated with spirometry result, COPD classifications and groups by Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), the modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale (mMRC Dyspnea Scale), COPD Assessment Test (CAT), Chinese Version of the Shortness of Breath Questionnaire (C-SOBQ), number of admission and the ADO index.Results: The C-MRADLQ shows good test–retest reliability as indicated by an intra-class correlation coefficient value of 0.975. It is significantly correlated with COPD stage, COPD group, SOBQ score, CAT score, mMRC, ADO index, spirometry results, and number of admissions. The SOBQ score, number of admissions, FEV1/FVC, and COPD group could significantly predict the total C-MRADLQ score. A total of 67.9% of participants’ mMRC levels were correctly classified by using the C-MRADLQ total score. The agreement of the original and new versions of questions 20 and 21 of C-MRADLQ was 97.3% and 90.1%, respectively.Conclusion: The pictorial version of the C-MRADLQ is a validated and reliable functional assessment tool to measure functional status among patients with COPD in the Chinese population.Keywords: pulmonary disease, chronic obstructive, patient-reported outcome measures, activities of daily living, validation study, occupational therapy

Background and Aims: Education and providing self‐care skills are essential for patients with chronic respiratory disease. Today, the use of information and communication technologies has provided many opportunities for facilitating self‐care in chronic patients. In this regard, the attention of researchers has been shifted toward the design and use of mobile phone‐based technologies for self‐care purposes in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In this study, a protocol is proposed for the design, implementation, and evaluation of a mobile‐based self‐care application for patients with COPD. Methods: The design science approach will be used in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the self‐care application. This solution‐oriented paradigm goes beyond the level of description and explanation and takes steps toward problem‐solving. One of the most common models of design science is the waterfall model of information technology development. The seven consecutive stages of the waterfall model include preliminary analysis, system analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation, and maintenance/modification. Conclusion: The present protocol is the first to design, implement, and evaluate a mobile‐based self‐care application for patients with COPD in Iran. The integration of new technologies for the self‐care education of COPD patients is considered an innovative strategy. This application is designed based on the self‐care needs of COPD patients, which will ultimately promote the self‐care activities of patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Laptop computer use may lead to the development of health problems. However, few methods exist to measure laptop use in undergraduate students. OBJECTIVES: To develop a web-based questionnaire to measure ergonomic exposures to laptop use and to test the feasibility of administration in university students. METHODS: We pilot tested the administration of the Student Laptop Use and Musculoskeletal Posture (SLUMP) questionnaire to 44 second year undergraduate students. We measured the participation rate, completion of questions, and sought feedback for improving the questionnaire. RESULTS: The participation rate was 75% (33/44). Students needed 10–12 minutes to complete the questionnaire. Participants suggested adding half hour intervals for questions measuring breaks and improving the clarity by emphasizing the sections focusing on academic, recreational and employment laptop use. CONCLUSION: Our pilot study suggests that the SLUMP questionnaire is appropriate for “in-class” measurement of ergonomic exposures to laptop use in university students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
