The aim of the current study was to examine the sport motivations of three types of National Basketball Association fans based on their geographic proximity to the team: local fans (i.e., U.S.-based fans of a local team), nonlocal fans (i.e., U.S.-based fans of a nonlocal team), and distant fans (i.e., China-based fans). The author used the psychological continuum model to measure level of psychological involvement with the team in order to determine whether fans were casual, moderate, or loyal. Using one-way analyses of variance and factorial analyses of variance, the author found that Chinese distant fans reported the highest motivation for seven of the nine types of motivation measured. Results also show that geographic locality predicted significant motivational differences among casual and moderate fans but not among loyal fans. The findings have both theoretical and applied implications and call for stronger focus on the influence of locality in the sport industry.

The purpose of this study is to explore Chinese and U.S. athlete self-presentation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. By examining 1200 photographs posted by Olympians on social media, this study finds that (a) male athletes feature themselves in more revealing clothes than female athletes, (b) Chinese athletes actively show more nationalistic notions compared to their U.S. counterparts, and (c) U.S. female athletes are involved in more subordinating behaviors than Chinese female athletes. This study underlines how the intersection of gender, nationalism, and culture influences athlete social media self-presentation in the global pandemic context. Possible explanations and implications are discussed.

Background Recent research has uncovered a novel contributor to cellular dysfunction called disulfidptosis. However, the regulatory factors of disulfidptosis in lung adenocarcinoma, such as molecular heterogeneity and the tumor microenvironment (TME), remain largely unknown. Methods We explored expression profiles and genetic variation features of disulfidptosis regulators and identified their correlation with patient outcomes across cancers. The mRNA expression level of SLC7A11 and SLC3A2 was verified by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The R package "ConsensusClusterPlus" was utilized to identify two distinct patterns of disulfidptosis, high-disulfidptosis pattern (HDPS) and low-disulfidptosis pattern (LDPS), which we systematically characterized in lung adenocarcinoma using multi-omics data. Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) was used to identify enrichment fractions of several signaling pathways. Several immune cell infiltration algorithms, including TIMER, CIBERSORT, QUANTISEQ, MCPCOUNTER, XCELL, EPIC, SVR, and LSEI, were used to compare immune landscapes between subgroups. The R package "oncoPredict" was utilized to identify various subtypes of drug sensitivity. The R package “Maftools” was utilized to compare different mutation patterns between subgroups. An eight disulfidptosis-related gene signature was identified to construct a risk score model using the random survival forest variable hunting (RSFVH) algorithm, stratifying patients into high- and low-risk groups, with TCGA cohort validation. Results We investigated the expression profiles and genetic variation characteristics of disulfidptosis genes across different cancer types. Our analysis revealed two distinct patterns of disulfidptosis, high-disulfidptosis pattern (HDPS) and low-disulfidptosis pattern (LDPS), which we systematically characterized in lung adenocarcinoma using multi-omics data. Intriguingly, patients with HDPS had a more favorable prognosis than those with LDPS, indicating that disulfidptosis is a critical factor in shaping the TME and influencing patient outcomes. Furthermore, we found that LDPS was associated with the lowest enrichment of metabolic activities, while HDPS was characterized by immune suppression. To enhance our understanding of the clinical implications of these findings, we developed a novel scoring tool, called DPSig, which predicts the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma patients based on their disulfidptosis status. Conclusions Our study highlights the crucial role of disulfidptosis in shaping the TME in lung adenocarcinoma and emphasizes the need to evaluate the disulfidptosis landscape to guide clinical decision-making. By deepening our understanding of disulfidptosis, we can move closer to fully characterizing the complex landscape of lung adenocarcinoma and developing more effective treatments for this devastating disease.

Background To investigate the unique properties of clinical manifestation and radiological imaging for differential diagnosis of optic nerve hemangioblastoma (ONH) from adult optic nerve glioma (ONG) prior to surgical resection. Methods ONH and adult ONG patients were recruited from 2012 to 2022. Results A total of seven ONH patients (8 eyes) and 23 adult ONG patients (24 eyes) were assessed. The median onset age of ONH patients (39 years) was older than that of adult ONG patients (27 years) (p = 0.007). 42.9% of ONH patients were closely associated with the diagnosis of VHL syndrome. Notably in MRI, the retrobulbar hemangioblastomas in all ONH patients were primarily intraorbital (100%) and canalicular (87.5%), and anterior intracranial (12.5%), especially concentrated in the orbital apex, with little posterior optic pathway involvement. Nearly all affected parts of optic nerve in the ONH group (6/8, 75.0%) presented with circumscribed cyst-solid components, characterized by cystic lesions in the front (peritumoral edema) and solid tumors in the back. The tumor presented typically with hypo- or isointense on the non-contrast T1-weighted images, and hyper- or isointense on the T2-weighted images (hyperintense pretumor cystic lesion, slight hyper-/isointense solid lesion), and the solid part appeared with significant heterogeneous enhancement. Conclusion Optic nerve tumors in those with older ages (> 30 years) or those diagnosed with VHL syndrome are more likely to be indicative of ONH. In the absence of associated VHL syndrome, MRI images presenting with circumscribed cyst-solid components (peritumoral edema and posterior solid tumor) especially concentrated in the orbital apex, with a heterogeneous enhancement of the solid part in the postcontrast study, is the unique property of ONH for differentiation.

Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) carry significant economic burden, as well as morbidity and mortality, especially when caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of optional antimicrobial therapy for the treatment of complicated SSTIs (cSSTIs).We searched PubMed, Medline (Via Ovid SP), Embase (Via Ovid SP), and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from their inception to March 22, 2021 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that studied the use of optional antimicrobial therapy for cSSTIs. Citations' screening, study selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment were independently performed by 2 authors. The primary outcomes were clinical and microbiological treatment success, and adverse events (AEs) were also assessed.A total of 48 trials covering 24,381 patients assessing 20 types of antimicrobial treatment modalities were included. Overall, omadacycline was associated with the highest beneficial effect on clinical and microbiological treatment success and with the largest rank probability based on surface under the cumulative ranking curve values, avarofloxacin was closely followed. Both had, however, omadacycline was related to moderately safety profiles. Lefamulin ranked as the best option was associated with the lowest risk of severe AEs. Subgroup analysis showed similar results. The quality of primary outcomes was moderate to low.The use of omadacycline was associated with higher rates of clinical and microbiological treatment success for the treatment of cSSTIs, with a relative low risk of AEs. Due to the limitations of the included RCTs, high-quality and well-designed RCTs are needed to further confirm the results.

Following Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey’s social media post advocating for Hong Kong independence, a 2 (NBA, Houston Rockets) × 3 (attacking the accuser, justification, apology) experimental design was utilized to explore the effects of different crisis response strategies on sports fan relationships between/among a professional sport league, one of its teams, and crisis responsibility attribution. Results indicated that apology strategy functioned better in reducing the blame placed on the organization than attacking strategy. Also, people with a more positive relationship or a higher level of identification with the organization would attribute less responsibility. However, when controlling the organization-public relationship or sport identification, response strategies could no longer predict attribution of responsibility significantly, suggesting that the previous relationship matters more than which response strategy is utilized in a crisis.

Meta-analyses comparing different antithrombotic strategies were conducted to determine the optimal therapeutic regimen post transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). However, there were restricted high-quality direct comparisons across the different antithrombotic therapeutic regimens. We sought to explore the safety and efficacy of different antithrombotic therapy strategies after TAVI using network meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).We searched CENTRAL, PubMed, Embase and Medline through August 2021 for RCTs that directly compared different antithrombotic schemes in adults who had undergone TAVI. We conducted a pairwise and network meta-analysis measuring all-cause mortality, stroke, myocardial infarction, all bleeding and life-threatening or major bleeding events. The surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA) curve was estimated to rank the therapies. We evaluated the risk of bias and graded the quality of the evidence using established methods.Six RCTs of 2824 patients who underwent TAVI were analysed. The risk of all bleeding [relative risk (RR) 1.88 (1.34-2.64)] and life-threatening or major bleeding [RR 2.03 (1.27-3.24)] was significantly higher for dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) than single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT), whereas there was no significant difference in the risk of all-cause mortality [RR 1.01 (0.61-1.68)] between DAPT and SAPT. Oral anticoagulant (OAC) + SAPT (OACSAPT) had significantly higher rates of all bleeding and life-threatening or major bleeding events compared with SAPT ([RR 3.46 (2.23-5.36)], [RR 2.86 (1.50-5.45)]). The risk of all-cause mortality [RR 1.72 (1.14-2.59)] and all bleeding [RR 1.84 (1.38-2.44)] were significantly higher for OACSAPT than DAPT, whereas there was no significant difference in the risk of life-threatening or major bleeding events [RR 1.41 (0.89-2.23)] between DAPT and OACSAPT. There was no significant difference in stroke or myocardial infarction among the different antithrombotic strategies (SAPT, DAPT and OACSAPT). Additionally, patients receiving OACSAPT had the highest risks for all-cause mortality (SUCRA 3.5%) and life-threatening or major bleeding (SUCRA 2.3%). SAPT seemed to be superior to DAPT in terms of all-cause mortality (SUCRA SAPT: 76.7%, DAPT: 69.8%) and stroke (SUCRA 69.6%, 59.7%).Except for OACSAPT having a higher all-cause mortality than DAPT, patients who underwent TAVI had similar all-cause mortality, stroke and myocardial infarction rates among different antithrombotic regimens. Patients on SAPT had a significantly lower bleeding risk than those on DAPT and OACSAPT. Our study indicates that SAPT is the preferred therapeutic strategy when there is no indication for OAC or DAPT. Furthermore, the application of OACSAPT was ranked the worst among all antithrombotic regimens and should be averted due to an increased risk of all-cause mortality and all bleeding.

This study investigated how LeBron James’s free-agency decision in 2018 influences sport fans’ image impressions of him with in-groups (Cleveland Cavaliers) and out-groups (all other NBA teams) compared. In the months preceding James’s free-agency decision, an experimental design was employed to ask self-ascribed fans of LeBron James how they felt about 4 possible free-agency destinations: the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Houston Rockets, the Golden State Warriors, and his eventual selection, the Los Angeles Lakers. A total of 189 U.S. fans of LeBron James were recruited for the study. Results indicate that James’s image became worse (in terms of mean scores) for every out-group condition, while being slightly improved if opting to remain in the in-group; however, images were significantly different from other out-groups in the scenario in which LeBron James opted to join the Golden State Warriors—the Cavaliers most immediate rival at the time.

Aerogel insulating panels (AIPs) exhibit extensive prospects for application in aerospace, industry and buildings as excellent energy-saving thermal insulators owing to their ultra-low thermal conductivity. This work aims to numerically and experimentally investigate the thermal performance of AIPs in building energy efficiency. The AIPs were prepared and used as an insulation layer in an insulating cell. Three insulating cells with three different insulating materials as the insulation layer were prepared to measure and comparatively analyse their thermal performances. A resistance-capacitance thermal network model to predict the thermal performance of the insulating cells was developed and validated with the experimental data. The thermal indices of cells, i.e. the time lag, decrement factor and daily heat loss, were explored under periodic disturbances of exterior air temperature. Furthermore, the thermal performance of AIPs for exterior walls was predicted by adopting the typical wall structure in the hot summer and warm winter zone of China. The results showed that the AIP wall has decreases of ∼20% and ∼40% in the fluctuation amplitude of the internal temperature and heat flow, respectively, compared with the traditional insulating walls.

This study conducts a content analysis on Chinese Central Television’s broadcasting of figure skating, short track speed skating, and freestyle skiing—the three most popular winter sports in the People’s Republic of China—at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics from the perspective of biological sex. A full examination of 100% (over 37 h) of Chinese Central Television’s broadcast coverage was analyzed in terms of clock-time, name-mentions, and descriptors. In each sport examined, female athletes received less clock-time and fewer name-mentions compared to their male counterparts. However, in the analysis of 7765 descriptors, relatively few significant differences between depictions of male and female athletes were uncovered, potentially explained by the Communist legacy of erasing women’s feminine characteristics and the relatively equal number of male and female commentators in Chinese Central Television’s sports newsrooms. Also, compared to many Western countries, male figure skaters in the People’s Republic of China received more clock-time and name-mentions, possibly attributed to cultural differences in defining ideal masculinity across East Asia and the West.

To date, few studies have examined the hearing of women in these frequently rural regions. Thus, we explored the HI prevalence and risk factors among low-income, middle-aged, and elderly women in Tianjin, China.Methods: Between October and November 2013, female residents aged ≥ 45 years of rural Tianjin, China were recruited into the study. The participants completed questionnaire surveys, physical examinations, and hearing tests. The hearing at frequencies of 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 4000 Hz was used to analyze the hearing characteristics of specific frequency bands, and HI was defined as the better ear pure tone averages (PTA) > 25 dB HL.Results: Among the 1416 participants, the prevalence of HI was 46.0%. Among those aged 45– 54-years, most (65.3%) demonstrated normal hearing; in other age groups, slight HI accounted for the largest proportions of individuals. Compared with women who did not drink, the odds ratio (OR) of HI among women who consumed alcohol was 4.2 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.844– 9.574; P = 0.001). Compared with pre-menopausal women, the OR of HI among postmenopausal women was 1.8 (95% CI: 1.261– 2.667; P = 0.001). Further, each 1-year increase in age in women resulted in a 7.1% increase in HI risk (P < 0.001).Conclusion: The burden of HI among women is heavy in rural northern China, especially among those who experienced menopause. Additionally, the results suggest that to further reduce the risk of developing HI, women in rural areas should stop consuming alcohol. The problem of HI among women in rural areas should be taken seriously; moreover, the measures implemented to prevent HI in high-risk women should be strengthened.Keywords: hearing impairment, women, risk factors, epidemiology, population-based study

Background Radiotherapy greatly benefits patients with tumors, but not all patients show favorable treatment response. This study investigated the impact of forkhead box protein C2 (FOXC2)-mediated a disintegrin and metalloprotease 12 (ADAM12) on the radiosensitivity of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Methods After transfection and ionizing radiation, the biological activities of HNSCC cells were assessed. The relationship between ADAM12 and FOXC2 was verified. A xenograft model was used to evaluate the effect of FOXC2 knockdown on HNSCC growth in the context of radiation therapy. Results FOXC2 and ADAM12 were upregulated in irradiated CAL-27 and HN4 cells. Knockdown of FOXC2 suppressed the malignant behaviors of CAL-27 and HN4 cells and inhibited the growth of transplanted tumors in nude mice. FOXC2 could bind ADAM12 promoter. Overexpression of ADAM12 reversed the promotion of FOXC2 silencing on the radiosensitivity of HNSCC cells. Conclusions FOXC2 regulates the radiosensitivity of HNSCC by targeting ADAM12.

Context Aidi injection is one of the most commonly use antitumor Chinese medicine injections for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It is made from the extraction of Astragalus, Eleutherococcus senticosus, Ginseng, and Cantharis. Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Aidi injection in combination with gemcitabine-based chemotherapy (GBC) for advanced NSCLC. Materials and methods PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese Biological Medicine, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, and VIP were searched for relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing Aidi injection plus GBC treatment with GBC alone in NSCLC, from inception up to October 2020. The primary outcomes were objective response rate (ORR), and disease control rate (DCR). Secondary outcomes were quality of life (QOL) and adverse drug reactions (ADRs). The quality of evidence was rated using the GRADE approach. This study was registered with PROSPERO: CRD42021221225. Results In total, 54 RCTs involving 4318 NSCLC patients were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with GBC alone, Aidi injection plus GBC significantly improve ORR (risk ratios [RR] = 1.38, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.29–1.48), DCR (RR = 1.15, 95% CI 1.12–1.19), QOL (RR = 1.71, 95% CI 1.54–1.89), and reduced the risk of gastrointestinal toxicity, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, liver injury, renal injury, and anaemia. The evaluation results of the evidence ranged from moderate to low. Conclusions Current moderate evidence revealed that Aidi injection as an adjunctive treatment to GBC was associated with superior benefits in patients with advanced NSCLC and alleviate toxicities. High-quality RCTs are needed to further confirm the results.

The application of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) or common space transform (CSP) extracts the features of motor imaginary (MI) electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. However, these feature extraction algorithms suffer from some drawbacks, such as the low generalization ability of CSP dealing with different subjects and the dependence of time-frequency window of DWT. In this paper, canonial correlation analysis (CCA) is proposed to fuse two features extracted by DWT and CSP so as to eliminate the noise with low correlation. CCA retains not only the advantage of CSP requiring less data in the training set, but also the advantage of DWT having high adaptability to multi-classification problems and nonlinear signals. The experimental results on BCI2005desc-IIIa and BCI2008desc-IIa EEG dataset show that the average accuracy of proposed multi-domain feature fusion model based on CCA is more than 87.50% for four-class MI tasks on BCI2005desc-IIIa data set, which is higher than non-feature-fusion methods, and is 78.07% for four-class MI tasks on BCI2008desc-IIa data set, which is higher than other feature extraction methods.

As age-related diseases, chronic kidney disease and hearing impairment (HI) cause a serious socioeconomic burden. Due to structural similarities, there is a certain connection between kidney function and hearing, but there has been no large-scale epidemiological study in China that further explored this connection. Thus, this study aimed to explore the association between indicator levels of kidney function and hearing impairment among middle-aged and elderly individuals in Tianjin, China.In 2020, 1539 participants aged 45 years or older from Tianjin, China, were recruited into this study. All participants completed questionnaire surveys and underwent physical examinations, laboratory examinations, and hearing tests. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated from serum creatinine (Cre) levels. HI was measured using pure-tone audiometry, and audiologists determined the final diagnoses.The prevalence of HI was 49.97%. With each 1-mL/min/1.73 mThese findings suggest that eGFR and serum Cre are effective predictors of hearing loss. Thus, to decrease the burden of HI, hearing should be carefully monitored for people aged ≥45 years with elevated serum Cre and eGFR.

Background Considering the extensive exploration of Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) and the limitations of paclitaxel-based chemotherapy (TBC) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), systematically and critically evaluating the efficacy and safety of CHIs combination with TBC in the treatment of NSCLC is necessary. Purpose To investigate the combined efficacy and safety of CHIs plus TBC on patients with advanced NSCLC. Methods The databases PubMed, Embase, Medline, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, China Biology Medicine disc, Wanfang, VIP, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure were systematically searched from their inception to Oct. 15, 2020. We selected randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding CHIs plus TBC to treat NSCLC. The methodological quality of included studies was evaluated based on the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Data synthesis was performed by WinBUGS 14.0 software and meta packages implemented in R 3.6.2 software. Random-effects network meta-analysis was performed and dichotomous data were expressed as odds ratios (ORs) with their 95% confidence intervals. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve probability values was used to rank the efficacy and safety of CHIs. The objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) was defined as the primary outcomes, and the secondary endpoints were quality of life (QOL) and adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Results Ninety-three RCTs recruiting 6626 advanced NSCLC patients were included and 7 types of CHIs were evaluated. Compared to TBC alone, CHIs plus TBC can significantly improve ORR, DCR, and QOL; and reduce the risk of neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, nausea and vomit, and liver injury. Multidimensional cluster analysis results demonstrated that Huachansu injection (HCS) plus TBC and Xiaoaiping injection (XAP) plus TBC were preferable improvements on ORR, DCR, and QOL, as well as a decrease in the risk of ADRs, compare with other types of CHIs. Conclusions Current moderate evidence revealed that CHIs plus TBC showed significantly higher efficacy and lower risk of ADRs for advance NSCLC patients than TBC alone. Thereinto, HCS plus TBC and XAP plus TBC were related to higher rank probabilities considering the efficacy and safety. High-quality RCTs with longer follow-ups are urgently needed to confirm the results further.

Background: Antipseudomonal β-lactams have been used for the treatment of febrile neutropenia (FN); however, the efficacy and safety of antipseudomonal β-lactams in pediatric patients remain unclear. The aim of this study was to comprehensively compare the efficacy and side effects of optional antipseudomonal β-lactams for pediatric FN. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Medline, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched from their inception to December 18, 2020. Eligible randomized controlled trials in which pediatric FN patients were treated with an empiric monotherapy of antipseudomonal β-lactams were selected. Data synthesis was performed using WinBUGS 14.0 software and meta packages implemented in R 3.6.2. Random-effects network meta-analysis was performed, and dichotomous data were pooled as odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. The primary outcome was treatment success without modification; the secondary outcomes were adverse events (AEs), all-cause mortality, and new infections. The GRADE tool was used to assess the quality of the evidence. The protocol was registered with PROSPERO ID CRD42021226763. Results: Eighteen studies with 2517 patients were included. The results showed no statistically significant difference between the optional antipseudomonal β-lactams in the outcomes of treatment success without modification, all AEs, all-cause mortality, and new infections for pediatric FN. Based on the results of Bayesian rank probability, meropenem was ranked highest among all the treatment options with regard to treatment success without modification benefit; ceftazidime and meropenem were associated with a lower risk of AEs; cefoperazone/sulbactam and piperacillin/tazobactam were associated with a lower risk of mortality, and piperacillin/tazobactam and meropenem were associated with a lower risk of new infections. The quality of evidence was moderate. Conclusions: Meropenem and piperacillin/tazobactam were found to be better with regard to treatment success without modification, with a comparable safety profile. Therefore, our findings support the use of meropenem and piperacillin/tazobactam as a treatment option for pediatric FN patients.

Background Huachansu injection (HCS) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to alleviate the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and enhance the clinical efficacy of chemotherapy. Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of HCS as an adjunctive treatment to platinum-based chemotherapy (PBC) for advanced NSCLC. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. A total of nine databases were searched to select randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of HCS plus PBC to treat NSCLC from inception to October 10, 2020. RCTs on HCS plus PBC vs PBC alone for advanced NSCLC were included. Dichotomous data were pooled as risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence intervals. RCTs compared to HCS plus PBC vs PBC alone were included. Primary outcomes were objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR), and secondary outcomes were survival rate, quality of life (QOL), and adverse drug reactions (ADRs). GRADE software was used to access the quality of evidence. Results A total of 32 RCTs, including 2753 patients, were included. Compared to PBC alone, HCS plus PBC improved the ORR, DCR, 1- and 2-year survival rates, and QOL and alleviated neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, nausea, vomiting, anemia, liver injury, renal injury, and alopecia. Conclusions Compared to PBC alone, HCS plus PBC improved the clinical efficacy and alleviated the ADRs in advanced NSCLC patients. Considering the limitations of the included RCTs, high-quality trials with longer follow-ups are needed to further confirm the results.

The aim of this study was to analyze China Central Television’s (CCTV) broadcasts of the 2018 Winter Olympics and how their various narratives presented home and foreign athletes. The findings indicate that CCTV devoted more name mentions to home athletes even though their medal achievements were inferior to foreign athletes and that home athletes held at least 40% of the top 10 mentions in the three examined sports. In terms of word-by-word descriptors, broadcasters were more likely to attribute the success of Chinese athletes to subjective factors (e.g., concentration, composure, commitment, and intelligence) and to attribute the success of non-Chinese athletes to objective factors (e.g., experience). Moreover, the network tended to attribute the failure of Chinese athletes to strength, experience, and consonance and to attribute the failure of non-Chinese athletes to lack of athletic skill. Theoretical and practical implications are both discussed.

Simulation results show that our method performs well.

Xuecai is a Chinese-fermented vegetable product that has attracted much attention because of its unique umami taste. However, investigations of the bacterial communities, umami components and chemical characteristics in xuecai and the brine have not yet been conducted. In this study, the bacterial communities and their correlations with the umami components and the chemical characteristics are investigated. The results showed that significantly higher contents of total protein, total acid, amino acid nitrogen, total sugar, titratable acidity, salt, amino acids and organic acids, as well as significantly lower nitrite concentrations were observed in the brine samples. The supervised pattern recognition method revealed that the xuecai and brine could be distinguished by these indicators. In addition, the xuecai and brine were both dominated by Lactobacillus, Halanaerobium and Halomonas. A correlation analysis showed that halophilic bacteria had a positive effect on the umami components and chemical characteristics of the xuecai and brine. However, lactic acid bacteria both showed a negative correlation with amino acids and most organic acids. Membrane transport, carbohydrate metabolism and amino acid metabolism were the most abundant pathways. These results enhance our understanding of the bacterial communities, as well as the umami components and chemical characteristics in Zhejiang xuecai and brine.

Background Pre-treatment serum albumin (ALB) is a novel index that was identified in recent years and is considered to be closely related to the prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, the association between ALB and NPC remains controversial. Objective of review To assess the prognostic significance of pre-treatment serum ALB in patients with NPC. Type of review A systematic review and meta-analysis. Search strategy We searched PubMed, the Cochrane Library and the Web of Science for studies published up to August 2018. The keywords used were related to albumin, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and prognosis. Evaluation method We extracted the following data from all included studies: author, publication year, country, cancer centre, time points of randomisation, sample size, mean or median age, gender, TNM stage of NPC, cut-off value of pre-treatment serum albumin, number of high-grade cases and duration of follow-up. Then, we generated the pooled hazard ratios (HR) for overall survival (OS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) to perform this meta-analysis. Results Ten studies comprising 7339 cases were included. Lower pre-treatment serum ALB levels were significantly associated with worse OS (HR = 1.32, 95% CI 1.17-1.48) and DMFS (HR = 1.40, 95% CI 1.08-1.80). In general, our findings were further verified in the subgroup analyses based on three features, including cancer stage, cut-off value and analysis type. Conclusion A decreased level of pre-treatment serum albumin implies a poor prognosis and can be detected to define the risk stratification of NPC patients.

We investigated the effect of the replacement of dietary fish oil with vegetable oils on the growth and flesh quality of large yellow croaker (Larmichthys crocea). The basal diet (FO) was formulated to contain 66.5% fish meal and 6.4% menhaden fish oil; whereas the other 3 experimental diets were formulated by replacing the fish oil with 50% soybean oil (SO50), 100% soybean oil (SO100) and 100% palm oil (PO100), respectively. The 4 diets were randomly assigned to 4 floating sea cages (3.0 m × 3.0 m × 3.0 m), and each was stocked with 250 fish individuals with an initial average weight of 245.29 g ± 7.45 g. The fish were fed to apparent satiation twice a day at 5:00 and 17:00, respectively, for 12 weeks. Experimental analysis showed that the specific growth rate of fish fed SO50 or PO100 were significantly higher than that of fish fed FO or SO100 (P 0.05).
