Impact crater counts on the Saturnian satellites are a key element for estimating their surface ages and placing constraints on their impactor population. The Cassini mission radar observations allowed crater counts to be made on the surface of Titan, revealing an unexpected scarcity of impact craters that show high levels of degradation. Following previous studies on impact cratering rates on the Saturnian satellites, we modeled the cratering process on Titan to constrain its surface chronology and to assess the role of centaur objects as its main impactors. A theoretical model previously developed was used to calculate the crater production on Titan, considering the centaur objects as the main impactors and including two different slopes for the size-frequency distribution (SFD) of the smaller members of their source population. A simple model for the atmospheric shielding effects is considered within the cratering process and our results are then compared with other synthetic crater distributions and updated observational crater counts. This comparison is then used to compute Titan's crater retention age for each crater diameter. The cumulative crater distribution produced by the SFD with a differential index of $s_2 = 3.5$ is found to consistently predict large craters (D > 50 km) on the surface of Titan, while it overestimates the number of smaller craters. As both the modeled and observed distributions flatten for craters with $D \lesssim 25 $ km due to atmospheric shielding, the difference between them can be considered as a proxy for the scale to which erosion processes have acted on the surface of Titan throughout the Solar System age. We developed a dedicated statistical test for a massive detection of spot- and facula-crossing anomalies in multiple exoplanetary transit lightcurves, based on the frequentist $p$-value thresholding. This test was used to augment our algorithmic pipeline for transit lightcurves analysis. It was applied to $1598$ amateur and professional transit observations of $26$ targets being monitored in the EXPANSION project. We detected $109$ statistically significant candidate events revealing a roughly $2:1$ asymmetry in favor of spots-crossings over faculae-crossings. Although some candidate anomalies likely appear non-physical and originate from systematic errors, such asymmetry between negative and positive events should indicate a physical difference between the frequency of star spots and faculae. Detected spot-crossing events also reveal positive correlation between their amplitude and width, possibly owed to spot size correlation. Aims. We developed a six-part collisional evolution model of the main asteroid belt (MB) and used it to study the contribution of the different regions of the MB to the near-earth asteroids (NEAs). Methods. We built a statistical code called ACDC that simulates the collisional evolution of the MB split into six regions (namely Inner, Middle, Pristine, Outer, Cybele and High-Inclination belts) according to the positions of the major resonances present there ($\nu_{6}$, 3:1J, 5:2J, 7:3J and 2:1J). We consider the Yarkovsky effect and the mentioned resonances as the main mechanism that removes asteroids from the different regions of the MB and delivers them to the NEA region. We calculated the evolution of the NEAs coming from the different source regions by considering the bodies delivered by the resonances and mean dynamical timescales in the NEA population. Results. Our model is in agreement with the major observational constraints associated with the MB, such as the size distributions of the different regions of the MB and the number of large asteroid families. It is also able to reproduce the observed NEAs with H < 16 and agrees with recent estimations for H < 20, but deviates for smaller sizes. We find that most sources make a significant contribution to the NEAs; however the Inner and Middle belts stand out as the most important source of NEAs followed by the Outer belt. The contributions of the Pristine and Cybele regions are minor. The High-Inclination belt is the source of only a fraction of the actual observed NEAs with high inclination, as there are dynamical processes in that region that enable asteroids to increase and decrease their inclinations., Comment: 14 pages, 12 Figures

From its discovery, the WASP-18 system with its massive transiting planet on a tight orbit was identified as a unique laboratory for studies on tidal planet-star interactions. In an analysis of Doppler data, which include five new measurements obtained with the HIRES/Keck-I instrument between 2012 and 2018, we show that the radial velocity signal of the photosphere following the planetary tidal potential can be distilled for the host star. Its amplitude is in agreement with both theoretical predictions of the equilibrium tide approximation and an ellipsoidal modulation observed in an orbital phase curve. Assuming a circular orbit, we refine system parameters using photometric time series from TESS. With a new ground-based photometric observation, we extend the span of transit timing observations to 28 years in order to probe the rate of the orbital period shortening. Since we found no departure from a constant-period model, we conclude that the modified tidal quality parameter of the host star must be greater than 3.9x10^6 with 95% confidence. This result is in line with conclusions drawn from studies of the population of hot Jupiters, predicting that the efficiency of tidal dissipation is 1 or 2 orders of magnitude weaker. As the WASP-18 system is one of the prime candidates for detection of orbital decay, further timing observations are expected to push the boundaries of our knowledge on stellar interiors., Comment: Accepted for publication in Acta Astronomica

We homogeneously analyse $\sim 3.2\times 10^5$ photometric measurements for $\sim 1100$ transit lightcurves belonging to $17$ exoplanet hosts. The photometric data cover $16$ years 2004--2019 and include amateur and professional observations. Old archival lightcurves were reprocessed using up-to-date exoplanetary parameters and empirically debiased limb-darkening models. We also derive self-consistent transit and radial-velocity fits for $13$ targets. We confirm the nonlinear TTV trend in the WASP-12 data at a high significance, and with a consistent magnitude. However, Doppler data reveal hints of a radial acceleration about $(-7.5\pm 2.2)$~m/s/yr, indicating the presence of unseen distant companions, and suggesting that roughly $10$ per cent of the observed TTV was induced via the light-travel (or Roemer) effect. For WASP-4, a similar TTV trend suspected after the recent TESS observations appears controversial and model-dependent. It is not supported by our homogeneus TTV sample, including $10$ ground-based EXPANSION lightcurves obtained in 2018 simultaneously with TESS. Even if the TTV trend itself does exist in WASP-4, its magnitude and tidal nature are uncertain. The small ($\le$ 135 km mean radius) saturnian satellites are closely related to the rings and together they constitute a complex dynamical system where formation and destruction mechanisms compete against each other. We model the cratering process by Centaur objects on the small saturnian satellites, and compare our results with the observational crater counts obtained from the Voyager and Cassini missions. Using a theoretical model previously developed we calculate the crater production on these satellites considering two slopes of the size-frequency distribution (SFD) for the smaller objects of the Centaur population and compare our results with the available observations. In addition, we consider the case of catastrophic collisions between these satellites and Centaur objects and calculate the age of formation of those satellites that suffer one or more disruptions. In general we find that the observed crater distributions are best modeled by the crater size distribution corresponding to the $s_2 = 3.5$ index of the SFD of impactors with diameters smaller than 60 km. However, for crater diameters $D \lesssim 3-8$ km (which correspond to impactor diameters $d \sim 0.04 - 0.15$ km), the observed distributions become flatter and deviate from our results, which may evidence processes of erosion and/or crater saturation at small crater sizes or a possible break in the SFD of impactors at $d \sim 0.04 - 0.15$ km to a much shallower differential slope of $\sim -1.5$. Our results suggest that Pan, Daphnis, Atlas, Aegaeon, Methone, Anthe, Pallene, Calypso and Polydeuces suffered one or more catastrophic collisions over the age of the Solar System, the younger being associated to arcs with ages of $\sim10^8$ years. We analyze the process of planetary scattering around M0-type stars. To do this, we carry out N-body simulations with three Jupiter-mass planets close to their instability limit together with an outer planetesimal disk. This paper focuses on the analysis of systems in which a single Jupiter-mass planet survives after the dynamical instability event. The small body reservoirs show different dynamical behaviors. In fact, our simulations produce particles on prograde and retrograde orbits, as well as particles whose orbital plane flips from prograde to retrograde and back again along their evolution. Such particles are called "Type-F particles". We find strong correlations between the inclination $i$ and the ascending node longitude $\Omega$ of such particles. First, $\Omega$ librates around 90$^{\circ}$ or/and 270$^{\circ}$. This property is very important since it represents a necessary and sufficient condition for the flipping of an orbit. Moreover, the libration periods of $i$ and $\Omega$ are equal and they are out to phase by a quarter period. We also remark that the larger the libration amplitude of $i$, the larger the libration amplitude of $\Omega$. Finally, we analyze the initial conditions of Type-F particles of all our simulations immediately after the dynamical instability event, when a single Jupiter-mass planet survives in the system. We carry out this study with the goal to determine the parameter space that lead to the flipping of an orbit. Our results suggest that the orbit of a test particle can flip for any value of its initial eccentricity, although we found only two Type-F particles with initial inclinations $i <$ 17$^{\circ}$. We study the impactor flux and cratering on Ceres and Vesta caused by the collisional and dynamical evolution of the asteroid Main Belt. We develop a statistical code based on a well-tested model for the simultaneous evolution of the Main Belt and NEA size distributions. This code includes catastrophic collisions and noncollisional removal processes such as the Yarkovsky effect and the orbital resonances. The model assumes that the dynamical depletion of the early Main Belt was very strong, and owing to that, most Main Belt comminution occurred when its dynamical structure was similar to the present one. Our results indicate that the number of D > 1 km Main Belt asteroids striking Ceres and Vesta over the Solar System history are approximately 4 600 and 1 100 respectively. The largest Main Belt asteroids expected to have impacted Ceres and Vesta had diameters of 71.7 km and 21.1 km. The number of D > 0.1 km craters on Ceres is \sim 3.4 \times 10^8 and 6.2 \times 10^7 on Vesta. The number of craters with D > 100 km are 47 on Ceres and 8 on Vesta. Our study indicates that the D = 460 km crater observed on Vesta had to be formed by the impact of a D \sim 66.2 km projectile, which has a probability of occurr \sim 30% over the Solar System history. If significant discrepancies between our results about the cratering on Ceres and Vesta and data obtained from the Dawn Mission were found, they should be linked to a higher degree of collisional evolution during the early Main Belt and/or the existence of the late heavy bombardment. An increase in the collisional activity in the early phase may be provided for an initial configuration of the giant planets consistent with, for example, the Nice model. Phoebe is one of the irregular satellites of Saturn; the images taken by Cassini-Huygens spacecraft allowed us to analyze its surface and the craters on it. We study the craters on Phoebe produced by Centaur objects from the Scattered Disk (SD) and plutinos escaped from the 3:2 mean motion resonance with Neptune and compare our results with the observations by Cassini. We use previous simulations on trans-Neptunian Objects and a method that allows us to obtain the number of craters and the cratering rate on Phoebe. We obtain the number of craters and the greatest crater on Phoebe produced by Centaurs in the present configuration of the Solar System. Moreover, we obtain a present normalized rate of encounters of Centaurs with Saturn of $\dot F = 7.1 \times 10^{-11}$ per year, from which we can infer the current cratering rate on Phoebe for each crater diameter. Our study and the comparison with the observations suggest that the main crater features on Phoebe are unlikely to have been produced in the present configuration of the Solar System and that they must have been acquired when the SD were depleted in the early Solar System. If this is what happened and the craters were produced when Phoebe was a satellite of Saturn, then it had to be captured, very early in the evolution of the Solar System., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

We study the impactor flux and cratering on Pluto and Charon due to the collisional evolution of Plutinos. Plutinos are those trans-Neptunian objects located at 39.5 AU, in the 3:2 mean motion resonance with Neptune. To do this, we develop a statistical code that includes catastrophic collisions and cratering events, and takes into account the stability and instability zones of the 3:2 mean motion resonance with Neptune. We proposes different initial populations that account for the uncertainty in the size distribution of Plutinos at small sizes. Depending on the initial population, our results indicate the following. The number of D > 1 km Plutinos streaking Pluto over 3.5 Gyr is between 1271 and 5552. For Charon, the number of D > 1 km Plutino impactors is between 354 and 1545. The number of D > 1 km craters on Pluto produced by Plutinos during the last 3.5 Gyr is between 43076 and 113879. For Charon, the number of D > 1 km craters is between 20351 and 50688.The largest Plutino impactor onto Pluto has a diameter between 17 and 23 km, which produces a craterwith a diameter of 31 - 39 km. The largest Plutino impactor onto Charon has a diameter between 10 and 15 km, which produces a crater with a diameter of 24 - 33 km. We test if 2 Pluto-sized objects are assumed in the 3:2 Neptune resonance, then the total number of Plutino impactors both onto Pluto as Charon with diameters D > 1 km is a factor of 1.6 - 1.8 larger if considering 1 Pluto-sized object. Given the dynamical structure of the trans-Neptunian region, it is necessary to study in detail the contribution of all the potential sources of impactors on the Pluto-Charon system, to obtain the main contributor and the whole production of craters. Then, we will be able to contrast those studies with observations which will help us to understand the geological processes and history of the surface of those worlds., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

It was shown in previous works the existence of weakly chaotic orbits in the plutino population that diffuse very slowly. These orbits correspond to long-term plutino escapers and then represent the plutinos that are escaping from the resonance at present. In this paper we perform numerical simulations in order to explore the dynamical evolution of plutinos recently escaped from the resonance. The numerical simulations were divided in two parts. In the first one we evolved 20,000 test particles in the resonance in order to detect and select the long-term escapers. In the second one, we numerically integrate the selected escaped plutinos in order to study their dynamical post escaped behavior. Our main results include the characterization of the routes of escape of plutinos and their evolution in the Centaur zone. We obtained a present rate of escape of plutinos between 1 and 10 every 10 years. The escaped plutinos have a mean lifetime in the Centaur zone of 108 Myr and their contribution to the Centaur population would be a fraction of less than 6 % of the total Centaur population.
