Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
The radio galaxy NGC 1275, located at the central region of Perseus cluster, is a well-known very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitter. The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment Telescope has detected two distinct episodes of VHE (E > 80 GeV) gamma-ray emission from NGC 1275 during 2022 December and 2023 January. The second outburst, observed on 2023 January 10, was the more intense of the two, with flux reaching 58$\%$ of the Crab Nebula flux above 80 GeV. The differential energy spectrum measured between 80 GeV and 1.5 TeV can be described by a power law with a spectral index of $\Gamma = - 2.90 \pm 0.16_{stat}$ for both flaring events. The broadband spectral energy distribution derived from these flares, along with quasisimultaneous low-energy counterparts, suggests that the observed gamma-ray emission can be explained using a homogeneous single-zone synchrotron self-Compton model. The physical parameters derived from this model for both flaring states are similar. The intermediate state observed between two flaring episodes is explained by a lower Doppler factor or magnetic field, which subsequently returned to its previous value during the high-activity state observed on 2023 January 10., Comment: 7 Pages, 5 Figures, and 1 Table

While the spontaneous emission from independent emitters provides spatially uncorrelated photons - a typical manifestation of quantum randomness, the interference of the coherent scattering leads to a well-defined intensity pattern - a feature described by linear optics. We here demonstrate experimentally how the interplay between the two mechanisms in large systems of quantum emitters leads to spatial variations of photon correlations. The implementation with trapped ion crystals in free space allows us to observe the anti-correlation between photon rates and variance of the photon number distributions in chains of up to 18 ions. For smaller crystals of four ions, the transition from a sub-Poissonian to a super-Poissonian variance of the photon number in the scattered light is reported. For higher numbers of scatterers, the photon statistics still display a strong deviation from the fully incoherent scattering case. Our results illustrate how the interference of coherent scattering, combined with spontaneous emission, provides a control mechanism for the light statistics.

We present a multi-wavelength spectral study of NGC 4151 based on five epochs of simultaneous AstroSat observations in the near ultra-violet (NUV) to hard X-ray band ($\sim 0.005-80$ keV) during $2017 - 2018$. We derived the intrinsic accretion disk continuum after correcting for internal and Galactic extinction, contributions from broad and narrow line regions, and emission from the host galaxy. We found a bluer continuum at brighter UV flux possibly due to variations in the accretion disk continuum or the UV reddening. We estimated the intrinsic reddening, $E(B-V) \sim 0.4$, using high-resolution HST/STIS spectrum acquired in March 2000. We used thermal Comptonization, neutral and ionized absorption, and X-ray reflection to model the X-ray spectra. We obtained the X-ray absorbing neutral column varying between $N_H \sim 1.2-3.4 \times 10^{23} cm^{-2}$, which are $\sim 100$ times larger than that estimated from UV extinction, assuming the Galactic dust-to-gas ratio. To reconcile this discrepancy, we propose two plausible configurations of the obscurer: (a) a two-zone obscurer consisting of dust-free and dusty regions, divided by the sublimation radius, or (b) a two-phase obscurer consisting of clumpy, dense clouds embedded in a low-density medium, resulting in a scenario where a few dense clouds obscure the compact X-ray source substantially, while the bulk of UV emission arising from the extended accretion disk passes through the low-density medium. Furthermore, we find a positive correlation between X-ray absorption column and $NUV-FUV$ color and UV flux, indicative of enhanced winds possibly driven by the 'bluer-when-brighter' UV continuum., Comment: 21 pages, 22 figures, 6 tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

Astrophysics - Astrophysics of Galaxies - Abstract
The recent detection of CN-functionalized aromatics partly addresses the long-standing mystery of the apparent absence of five- and six-membered rings in interstellar environments. N-heterocycles, which are crucial as the fundamental structures of nucleobases, have been a focus of these aromatic searches due to their biological significance. Although N-heterocycles have not been conclusively detected in astrophysical environments, their presence in chondrites and meteorites signifies their interstellar and circumstellar connection. Precise spectral data identifies the unique signatures of molecules, confirming their presence in space. In this light, the present work reports an extensive computational investigation on interstellar 3-pyrroline; a five-membered ring N-heterocycle. This includes an alternative formation route in cold interstellar environments and highly accurate rotational and vibrational spectroscopy. The results indicate that 3-pyrroline can form on dust grain surfaces from vinyl cyanide, as its formation from pyrrole through double hydrogenation may lead to the formation of pyrrole itself via a H$_{2}$ abstraction process. 3-pyrroline's rotational transition at 52.3 GHz offers a potential tool for its detection in cold interstellar regions. Additionally, the strongest infrared features of 3-pyrroline at 16.09 $\mu$m and $\sim$3.50 $\mu$m are observable with JWST. The provided data is crucial for laboratory identification and future interstellar observations of 3-pyrroline at both radio and IR wavelengths.

The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) is a large size (21m) Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) installed at an altitude of 4270m above sea level at Hanle, Ladakh in northern India. Here we report the detection of Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from Crab Nebula above 80 GeV. We analysed ~15 hours of data collected at low zenith angle between November 2022 and February 2023. The energy spectrum is well described by a log-parabola function with a flux of ~(3.46 +/- 0.26stat) x 10-10 TeV-1 cm-2 s-1, at 400 GeV with spectral index of 2.09 +/- 0.06stat and a curvature parameter of 0.08 +/- 0.07stat. The gamma-rays are detected in an energy range spanning from 80 GeV to ~5 TeV. The energy resolution improves from ~34% at an analysis energy threshold of 80 GeV to ~21% above 1 TeV. The daily light curve and the spectral energy distribution obtained for the Crab Nebula is in agreement with previous measurements, considering statistical and systematic uncertainties., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astroparticle Physics

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
We report on the properties of central engines in the $\gamma$-ray blazars located at high redshifts beyond z~>~0.4, where the extra-galactic background light (EBL) starts affecting their $\gamma$-ray spectra. The physical engine that provides power to the blazars of very high bolometric luminosity is assumed to be a highly collimated jet of matter moving relativistically away from the supermassive black hole (SMBH), located in the central region of the host galaxy, in a direction aligned toward the Earth. Due to their peculiar geometry and special physical conditions, blazars at redshifts beyond z~>~0.4 are bright enough to be detected in the $\gamma$-ray energy band. In this work, we investigate the physical properties of high-$z$ $\gamma$-ray blazars detected by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board the \emph{Fermi} satellite. We also study the properties of their emission regions and the central engines and discuss cosmological and astrophysical implications., Comment: 20 Pages,8 Figures, Published in Galaxies journal

We report the physical properties of GdAuGe single crystals, which were grown using Bi flux. The powder x-ray diffraction data shows that the compound crystallizes in hexagonal NdPtSb-type structure (space group P63mc). Magnetization measurements performed for field configuration H||c and H||ab show that GdAuGe orders antiferromagnetically at the Neel temperature, TN = 17.2 K. Around this temperature, heat capacity and electrical resistivity data exhibit prominent anomaly due to the antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition. In addition to an AFM phase transition, the magnetization data for H||c display the signature of field-induced metamagnetic (MM) transitions below TN. The critical field range for these transitions vary from 0.2 to 6.2 T. The critical fields for the MM transitions decrease with increasing temperature and approach zero value for temperature approaching TN. Interestingly, the magnetoresistance (MR) data (for H||c) record a sharp increase in values at the critical fields that coincide with those seen in magnetization data, tracking the presence of MM transitions. MR is positive and large (169% at 9 T and 2 K) at low temperatures. Above TN, MR becomes small and switches to negative values. Hall resistivity data reveal the predominance of hole charge carriers in the system. In addition, we observe an emergence of step-like feature in the Hall resistivity data within the field range of second MM, and a significantly large anomalous Hall conductivity of 1270 {\Omega}-1 cm-1 at 2 K. The H-T phase diagram constructed from our detailed magnetization and magnetotransport measurements reveals multiple intricate magnetic phase transitions. The electronic and magnetic structure of GdAuGe are also thoroughly investigated using first-principles methods. The electronic band structure calculations reveal that GdAuGe is a Dirac nodal-line semimetal., Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures

We study the connection between the variations in the far ultra-violet (FUV), near ultra-violet (NUV) and X-ray band emission from NGC 4051 using 4-days long AstroSat observations performed during 5-9 June 2016. NGC 4051 showed rapid variability in all three bands with the strongest variability amplitude in the X-ray band ($F_{var} \sim 37\%$) and much weaker variability in the UV bands ($F_{var} \sim 3 - 5\%$). Cross-correlation analysis performed using Interpolated cross-correlation Functions (ICCF) and Discrete cross-correlation Functions (DCF) revealed a robust correlation ($\sim 0.75$) between the UV and X-ray light curves. The variations in the X-ray band are found to lead those in the FUV and NUV bands by $\sim 7.4{\rm~ks}$ and $\sim 24.2{\rm~ks}$, respectively. The UV lags favour the thermal disc reprocessing model. The FUV and NUV bands are strongly correlated ($\sim 0.9$) and the variations in the FUV band lead those in the NUV band by $\sim 13{\rm~ks}$. Comparison of the UV lags found using the AstroSat observations with those reported earlier and the theoretical model for thermal reverberation time-lag suggests a possible change in either the geometry of the accretion disc/corona or the height of the corona., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
Gamma-ray bursts (GRB) are powerful transient events that emit a large output of gamma rays within a few seconds. Studying these short bursts is vital for cosmological research since they originate from sources observed at large redshifts. To effectively carry out these studies, it is crucial to establish a correlation between the observable features of GRBs while reducing their uncertainty. For these reasons, a comprehensive description of the general GRB light curve (LC) would be crucial for the studies. However, unevenly spaced observations and significant gaps in the LC, which are primarily unavoidable for various reasons, make it difficult to characterize GRBs. Therefore, the general classification of GRB LCs remains challenging. In this study, we present a novel approach to reconstruct gamma-ray burst (GRB) light curves using bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM). Experimental results show that the BiLSTM approach performs better than traditional methods and produces smoother and more convincing reconstructions for GRBs., Comment: Submitted to Royal Astronomical Society Techniques and Instruments, 4 figures and 3 tables

General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology - Abstract
Inspired by the conundrum of the gravitational event, GW190814 which brings to light the coalescence of a 23 $ M_{\odot}$ black hole with a yet to be determined secondary component, we look to modelling compact objects within the framework of $f(\mathcal{Q})$ gravity by employing the method of gravitational decoupling. We impose a quadratic equation of state (EOS) for the interior matter distribution which in the appropriate limit reduces to the MIT bag model. The governing field equations arising from gravitational decoupling bifurcates into the $\rho=\theta^0_0$ and $p_r=\theta^1_1$ sectors leading to two distinct classes of solutions. Both families of solutions are subjected to rigorous tests qualifying them to describe a plethora of compact objects including neutron stars, strange stars and the possible progenitor of the secondary component of GW190814. Using observational data of mass-radius relations for compact objects LMC X-4, Cen X-3, PSR J1614-2230 and PSR J0740+6620 we show that it is possible to generate stellar masses and radii beyond 2.0 $ M_{\odot}$ for neutron stars. Our findings reveal that the most { suitable and versatile model in this framework is the quadratic EOS}, which accounts for a range of low mass stars as well as typical stellar candidates describing the secondary component of GW190814., Comment: Accepted in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series

BACKGROUND: The value, speed of completion and robustness of the evidence generated by TB treatment trials could be improved by implementing standards for best practice.METHODS: A global panel of experts participated in a Delphi process, using a 7-point Likert scale to score and revise draft standards until consensus was reached.RESULTS: Eleven standards were defined: Standard 1, high quality data on TB regimens are essential to inform clinical and programmatic management; Standard 2, the research questions addressed by TB trials should be relevant to affected communities, who should be included in all trial stages; Standard 3, trials should make every effort to be as inclusive as possible; Standard 4, the most efficient trial designs should be considered to improve the evidence base as quickly and cost effectively as possible, without compromising quality; Standard 5, trial governance should be in line with accepted good clinical practice; Standard 6, trials should investigate and report strategies that promote optimal engagement in care; Standard 7, where possible, TB trials should include pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic components; Standard 8, outcomes should include frequency of disease recurrence and post-treatment sequelae; Standard 9, TB trials should aim to harmonise key outcomes and data structures across studies; Standard 10, TB trials should include biobanking; Standard 11, treatment trials should invest in capacity strengthening of local trial and TB programme staff.CONCLUSION: These standards should improve the efficiency and effectiveness of evidence generation, as well as the translation of research into policy and practice.

We compared serum p-glycoprotein (p-gp)/Multidrug Resistance Protein 1 (MDR1), monomeric CRP (mCRP), CRP, and mCRP:CRP ratio in Takayasu arteritis (TAK) and healthy controls and their relationship with disease activity.Patients and Methods: Serum p-gp mCRP (ELISA) and CRP (nephelometry) were compared between consecutive adults with TAK (> 18 years) enrolled from a prospective cohort (n = 92) and healthy controls (n = 29), and between active vs inactive TAK (n = 46 each). In a subset of active immunosuppressive-naïve TAK (n = 29), correlation was assessed between serum p-gp and p-gp expression on circulating T helper lymphocyte populations: overall (CD4+), Th17 (CD4+IL-17+), Th17.1 (CD4+IL-17+IFN-γ+) lymphocytes [normalized to Tregs (CD4+CD25+FoxP3+)]. Changes in serum p-gp, mCRP, CRP, and mCRP:CRP were compared before and after immunosuppression (n = 29). Data was represented using median (Q1-Q3). Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves were generated for TAK vs controls, and active vs inactive TAK with serum p-gp, mCRP, CRP, and mCRP:CRP. Multivariable-adjusted linear regression was used to predict active disease with serum p-gp, mCRP, CRP, or mCRP:CRP.Results: Serum p-gp (11.19 vs 8.05 ng/mL), mCRP (1.61 vs 1.25 μg/L), and CRP (5.40 vs 2.1 mg/L) were elevated in TAK vs controls (p < 0.05 for all). CRP was higher and mCRP:CRP ratio was lower in active vs inactive TAK (p < 0.001). ROC curves identified moderate prediction for active disease with CRP and inactive disease with serum p-gp (area under ROC curve 0.705 and 0.392, respectively). Multivariable-adjusted linear regression confirmed association of CRP with active disease (p = 0.009) and serum p-gp with inactive disease (p = 0.041). In treatment-naïve TAK, serum p-gp negatively correlated with p-gp+Th17.1 lymphocytes (Spearman’s rho=− 0.39, p = 0.046). CRP and serum p-gp were significantly lowered following immunosuppressive therapy in treatment-naïve TAK (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Serum p-gp and mCRP are elevated in TAK. Serum p-gp is associated with inactive disease. Keywords: Takayasu arteritis, MDR1 protein, C-reactive protein, large vessel vasculitis, aortoarteritis, disease activity

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
The MACE (Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment) telescope has started its regular gamma-ray observations at Hanle in India. Located at an altitude of $\sim$ 4.3 km above sea level and equipped with a 21 m diameter large quasi-parabolic reflector, it has the capability to explore the gamma-ray sky in the energy range above 20 GeV with very high sensitivity. In this work, we present the results from the feasibility studies for searching high-energy gamma-ray signals from dark matter interaction in potential astrophysical environments. We study the impact of MACE response function and other instrumental characteristics to probe the velocity average interaction cross-section ($<\sigma v>$) of the weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), expected from the thermal dark matter freeze-out during the decoupling era. We consider the presence of dark matter in the form of pure WIMPs in the mass range 200 GeV - 10 TeV to produce distinctive gamma-ray spectra through its self-annihilation into standard model particles using the Pythia simulation package. The convolution of gamma-ray spectra corresponding to different standard model channels with the MACE response function is used to estimate the upper limit on $<\sigma v>$ for 100 hours of expected MACE observation of Segue1 (a dwarf spheroidal galaxy) which is a potential site of dark matter., Comment: 8 Pages, 4 Figures, To appear in Proceedings of Science (ICRC 2023)

Physics - Applied Physics - Abstract
Iron oxide-based nanostructures receive significant attention as an efficient adsorbent for organic dyes removal. The removal properties have strong dependency on the stoichiometry, phases, reactive edges, defect states etc present in the iron-oxides nanostructures. Herein, iron oxide/carbon composite with well-defined heterophased grain boundaries is synthesized by simple precipitation method and followed by calcination. The local structure, spin dynamics and magnetic properties of heterophased iron oxides/carbon composite are thoroughly investigated to explore its cationic and anionic dye removal capability. To validate the effectivity of the presence of heterogeneous grain boundaries, iron oxide/carbon nanocomposite with homogeneous grain boundaries is also examined. It was found that the hetero-phased iron oxide/carbon showed removal capacity of 35.45 mg g-1 and 45.84 mg g-1 for cationic (Crystal Violet) and anionic (Congo Red) dyes, respectively as compared to that of as-synthesised imidazole-capped superparamagnetic {\alpha}-Fe2O3 (25.11 mg g-1 and 40.44 mg g-1, respectively) and homophased iron oxide/carbon nanocomposite (9.41 mg g-1 and 5.43 mg g-1, respectively). The plausible mechanism on the local structural evolution of the heterophase in the course of calcination and increase of the removal capacity is discussed. A detailed dye adsorption investigation is presented including the adsorption kinetic study. The pseudo-second order kinetic model is found to be an appropriate one and suggests that the chemisorption is dominant factor leading to adsorption of dyes. Whereas Weber-Morris model indicate the strong influence of boundary layers of nanocomposite on the adsorption process., Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures, 2 schemes, 4 tables

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
Machine learning based approaches are emerging as very powerful tools for many applications including source classification in astrophysics research due to the availability of huge high quality data from different surveys in observational astronomy. The Large Area Telescope on board \emph{Fermi} satellite (\emph{Fermi}-LAT) has discovered more than 6500 high energy gamma-ray sources in the sky from its survey over a decade. A significant fraction of sources observed by the \emph{Fermi}-LAT either remains unassociated or has been identified as \emph{Blazar Candidates of Uncertain type} (BCUs). We explore the potential of eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost)- a supervised machine learning algorithm to identify the blazar subclasses among a sample of 112 BCUs of the 4FGL catalog whose X-ray counterparts are available within 95$\%$ uncertainty regions of the \emph{Fermi}-LAT observations. We have used information from the multi-wavelength observations in IR, optical, UV, X-ray and $\gamma$-ray wavebands along with the redshift measurements reported in the literature for classification. Among the 112 uncertain type blazars, 62 are classified as BL Lacertae objects (BL Lacs) and 6 have been classified as Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs). This indicates a significant improvement with respect to the multi-perceptron neural network based classification reported in the literature. Our study suggests that the gamma-ray spectral index, and IR color indices are the most important features for identifying the blazar subclasses using the \emph{XGBoost} classifier. We also explore the importance of redshift in the classification BCU candidates., Comment: 16 Pages, 10 Figures, Accepted for Publication in MNRAS
