AdS/QCD models are being extensively studied because they seem to offer an entirely tractable and radically different approach to the phases of QCD whose region of validity is precisely the region of strong interactions. In this context, a missing ingredient has been the absence of a bulk description dual to a confined hadronic phase at finite baryon density. In this work, we discuss a class of backgrounds that fill this lacuna. Applying physically motivated boundary conditions, we obtain phase diagrams which compare reasonably with approaches based on the PNJL model. While IoT sensors in physical spaces have provided utility and comfort in our lives, their instrumentation in private and personal spaces has led to growing concerns regarding privacy. The existing notion behind IoT privacy is that the sensors whose data can easily be understood and interpreted by humans (such as cameras) are more privacy-invasive than sensors that are not human-understandable, such as RF (radio-frequency) sensors. However, given recent advancements in machine learning, we can not only make sensitive inferences on RF data but also translate between modalities. Thus, the existing notions of privacy for IoT sensors need to be revisited. In this paper, our goal is to understand what factors affect the privacy notions of a non-expert user (someone who is not well-versed in privacy concepts). To this regard, we conduct an online study of 162 participants from the USA to find out what factors affect the privacy perception of a user regarding an RF-based device or a sensor. Our findings show that a user's perception of privacy not only depends upon the data collected by the sensor but also on the inferences that can be made on that data, familiarity with the device and its form factor as well as the control a user has over the device design and its data policies. When the data collected by the sensor is not human-interpretable, it is the inferences that can be made on the data and not the data itself that users care about when making informed decisions regarding device privacy.

Graphene is one of the most researched two dimensional (2D) material due to its unique combination of mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Special 2D structure of graphene enables it to exhibit a wide range of peculiar material properties like high Young's modulus, high specific strength etc. which are critical for myriad of applications including light weight structural materials, multi-functional coating and flexible electronics. It is quite challenging and costly to experimentally investigate graphene/graphene based nanocomposites, computational simulations such as molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are widely adopted for understanding the microscopic origins of their unique properties. However, disparate results were reported from computational studies, especially MD simulations using various empirical inter-atomic potentials. In this work, an artificial neural network based interatomic potential has been developed for graphene to represent the potential energy surface based on first principle calculations. The developed machine learning potential (MLP) facilitates high fidelity MD simulations to approach the accuracy of ab initio methods but with a fraction of computational cost, which allows larger simulation size/length, and thereby enables accelerated discovery/design of graphene-based novel materials. Lattice parameter, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), Young's modulus and yield strength are estimated using machine learning accelerated MD simulations (MLMD), which are compared to experimental/first principle calculations from previous literatures. Estimating the number of clusters and cluster structures in unlabeled, complex, and high-dimensional datasets (like images) is challenging for traditional clustering algorithms. In recent years, a matrix reordering-based algorithm called Visual Assessment of Tendency (VAT), and its variants have attracted many researchers from various domains to estimate the number of clusters and inherent cluster structure present in the data. However, these algorithms face significant challenges when dealing with image data as they fail to effectively capture the crucial features inherent in images. To overcome these limitations, we propose a deep-learning-based framework that enables the assessment of cluster structure in complex image datasets. Our approach utilizes a self-supervised deep neural network to generate representative embeddings for the data. These embeddings are then reduced to 2-dimension using t-distributed Stochastic Neighbour Embedding (t-SNE) and inputted into VAT based algorithms to estimate the underlying cluster structure. Importantly, our framework does not rely on any prior knowledge of the number of clusters. We rewrite the worldsheet torus partition function of the Thermal AdS CFT by isolating the boundary parameters. Using this, we show that the spectrum of the Euclidean BTZ black hole and Lorentzian AdS3 can be extracted -- the latter as a zero temperature limit. A similar procedure recovers the Lorentzian BTZ spectrum proposed in an earlier work. We then use our expression to construct a boundary modular invariant expression as a Poincar\'e series.

In recent years multi-label, multi-class video action recognition has gained significant popularity. While reasoning over temporally connected atomic actions is mundane for intelligent species, standard artificial neural networks (ANN) still struggle to classify them. In the real world, atomic actions often temporally connect to form more complex composite actions. The challenge lies in recognising composite action of varying durations while other distinct composite or atomic actions occur in the background. Drawing upon the success of relational networks, we propose methods that learn to reason over the semantic concept of objects and actions. We empirically show how ANNs benefit from pretraining, relational inductive biases and unordered set-based latent representations. In this paper we propose deep set conditioned I3D (SCI3D), a two stream relational network that employs latent representation of state and visual representation for reasoning over events and actions. They learn to reason about temporally connected actions in order to identify all of them in the video. Protecting NLP models against misspellings whether accidental or adversarial has been the object of research interest for the past few years. Existing remediations have typically either compromised accuracy or required full model re-training with each new class of attacks. We propose a novel method of retroactively adding resilience to misspellings to transformer-based NLP models. This robustness can be achieved without the need for re-training of the original NLP model and with only a minimal loss of language understanding performance on inputs without misspellings. In this article, we study the finite temperature properties of a 10-D version of a hardwall model for QCD. Introducing fundamental matter via probe D7-branes and separate cutoffs for the branes and the bulk, we present a detailed exploration of the phases for varying temperature and quark mass. Finite thermodynamic quantities are calculated using the procedure of holographic renormalization and used to characterize the phases. In future 6G cellular networks, a joint communication and sensing protocol will allow the network to perceive the environment, opening the door for many new applications atop a unified communication-perception infrastructure. However, interpreting the sparse radio representation of sensing scenes is challenging, which hinders the potential of these emergent systems. We propose to combine radio and vision to automatically learn a radio-only sensing model with minimal human intervention. We want to build a radio sensing model that can feed on millions of uncurated data points. To this end, we leverage recent advances in self-supervised learning and formulate a new label-free radio-visual co-learning scheme, whereby vision trains radio via cross-modal mutual information. We implement and evaluate our scheme according to the common linear classification benchmark, and report qualitative and quantitative performance metrics. In our evaluation, the representation learnt by radio-visual self-supervision works well for a downstream sensing demonstrator, and outperforms its fully-supervised counterpart when less labelled data is used. We present here a novel cantilever based apparatus to perform translational stress or strain controlled rheology in very soft solids, and obtain simultaneous confocal imaging of the 3 dimensional microstructure. The stress is measured using eddy based sensors. Both the stress and strain are controlled by applying PID control loops on measured quantities and changing position using a micromanipulator. To get rid of surface tension forces, the sample and cantilever are immersed. This enables stress measurement and control down to 3mPa. With this apparatus, we can independently apply shear and normal stress, or strain, with same precision. We demonstrate the technical capability of the setup with steady shear strain or stress experiments on a soft protein gel system. The increasing ubiquity of low-cost wireless sensors has enabled users to easily deploy systems to remotely monitor and control their environments. However, this raises privacy concerns for third-party occupants, such as a hotel room guest who may be unaware of deployed clandestine sensors. Previous methods focused on specific modalities such as detecting cameras but do not provide a generalized and comprehensive method to capture arbitrary sensors which may be "spying" on a user. In this work, we propose SnoopDog, a framework to not only detect common Wi-Fi-based wireless sensors that are actively monitoring a user, but also classify and localize each device. SnoopDog works by establishing causality between patterns in observable wireless traffic and a trusted sensor in the same space, e.g., an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that captures a user's movement. Once causality is established, SnoopDog performs packet inspection to inform the user about the monitoring device. Finally, SnoopDog localizes the clandestine device in a 2D plane using a novel trial-based localization technique. We evaluated SnoopDog across several devices and various modalities and were able to detect causality for snooping devices 95.2% of the time and localize devices to a sufficiently reduced sub-space., Comment: Accepted at USENIX Security 2021

Semantic understanding of scenes in three-dimensional space (3D) is a quintessential part of robotics oriented applications such as autonomous driving as it provides geometric cues such as size, orientation and true distance of separation to objects which are crucial for taking mission critical decisions. As a first step, in this work we investigate the possibility of semantically classifying different parts of a given scene in 3D by learning the underlying geometric context in addition to the texture cues BUT in the absence of labelled real-world datasets. To this end we generate a large number of synthetic scenes, their pixel-wise labels and corresponding 3D representations using CARLA software framework. We then build a deep neural network that learns underlying category specific 3D representation and texture cues from color information of the rendered synthetic scenes. Further on we apply the learned model on different real world datasets to evaluate its performance. Anahita is an autonomous underwater vehicle which is currently being developed by interdisciplinary team of students at Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Kanpur with aim to provide a platform for research in AUV to undergraduate students. This is the second vehicle which is being designed by AUV-IITK team to participate in 6th NIOT-SAVe competition organized by the National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai. The Vehicle has been completely redesigned with the major improvements in modularity and ease of access of all the components, keeping the design very compact and efficient. New advancements in the vehicle include, power distribution system and monitoring system. The sensors include the inertial measurement units (IMU), hydrophone array, a depth sensor, and two RGB cameras.
