Background: With increasing urbanization, number of urban slums is also rising. The health facilities and indicators in urban slums are poor as compared to other urban population. The present study presents an analysis of the health problems, utilization of health services and vulnerability of urban slums. Aims & Objectives: To map the slums in urban areas and assess the vulnerability of households. Methodology: The study was conducted in all urban slums of five cities of Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts namely Haldwani, Ramnagar, Rudrapur, Jaspur and Kashipur. Group discussions involving community members, ward surveys by ASHA workers and household level vulnerability assessment were done using standard format according to "Guidelines and Tools for Vulnerability Mapping and Assessment of Urban Health, 2017". Results: Most urban slum dwellers are daily wage laborers with major population suffering mainly from diabetes, hypertension, respiratory infection. Lack of drugs and diagnostic facilities are the major concerns. Infrastructure needs strengthening in most of the slums. Around three fourth of population belonged to vulnerable group with remaining in highly vulnerable group. Conclusion: There are social problems in urban slums like illiteracy, lack of awareness, unemployment which worsen the health problems. So, a holistic approach is needed for the solution. The viscosity ($\eta $η) and speed of sound ($u$u) of binary pentyl acetate (1) + isomers of butanol (2) mixtures were reported at T = 298.15 K to 318.15 K and at 0.1 MPa pressure. Using the experimental data, deviation in viscosity ($\Delta \eta $Δη), deviation in speed of sound ($\Delta u$Δu), and excess isentropic compressibility (${\kappa _s}^E$κsE) were determined and these were fitted with the RK equation. The findings suggest that the behaviour of a mixture is affected by intermolecular interactions (dipole – dipole, H – bonding, dispersive, and cohesive force) and structural aspects of the molecule. The $\Delta \eta $Δη and ${\kappa _s}^E$κsE curves were predicted well with the Singh model and ab – initio approach. At each temperature, the ${\kappa _s}^E$κsE values were positive for binary mixtures, whereas the $\Delta \eta $Δη and $\Delta u$Δu values were negative. The numeric values of $u$u were determined through numerous correlations. This study delves into the relative importance of these relations with the experimental values of $u$u. Empirical force field methods typically rely on point charges to describe the electrostatic interactions, which is problematic when anisotropy needs to be considered, as in the case of the electrostatic potential of covalently bound halogens that possess a positive site, termed σ -hole, surrounded by a large negative belt. To address this, an off-center point charge (extra point, EP) is usually placed at a given distance from the halogen to emulate the σ -hole and commonly used implementations are based on the restrained electrostatic potential (RESP) procedure to fit atomic charges, being one of the most used charge models. In this context, no specific Merz–Singh–Kollman (MK) radius for iodine is available in the literature, which is an essential parameter in the RESP fitting procedure. In this work, we explored the impact of the iodine MK radius on the obtained RESP charges for a set of 12 iodinated molecules. We verified that the relative root mean square (RRMS) values obtained with and without an EP kept decreasing with increasing radii for most compounds, thus impairing optimization using such a procedure. Nevertheless, the use of an iodine MK radius lower than 2 Å is not advisable since the RRMS kept decreasing considerably until this value was reached. Moreover, the performance of three iodine MK radii was studied with the estimation of the free energy of hydration (Δ G hyd) values using alchemical free energy calculations, which are particularly sensitive to the charges used. Despite the usage of different radii not leading to remarkable differences, our results indicate that using a value of 2.70 Å leads to lower mean absolute errors (MAE) and root mean squared error (RMSE) values when comparing the calculated with the experimental Δ G hyd values. Restrained Electrostatic Potential (RESP) charges are commonly used in force fields and Merz-Singh-Kollman (MK) radii are needed in the fitting. Since iodine radius is not available, in this work, we explored the impact of changing the iodine MK radius on the RESP charges of a set of 12 iodinated molecules and their hydration free energy predictions. The selected stories belonging to the genre of speculative fiction respectively oscillate around four women characters and leave us with an emerging pattern of searching for a lost "self." The ingenious story telling with elements of the imaginary addresses subtle yet complicated gender issues. This essay examines the stardom of Ranveer Singh in the light of Queer Theory. In the last decade, Ranveer Singh has established himself as the superstar of the Bombay film industry. Not only has he acted in a range of challenging films, thereby proving his versatility as an actor, his quirky sense of clothing and style, as well as his eccentric personality and over the top public gestures, have been subject to endless public conversations and debates. In this essay, I argue, that Ranveer Singh's aesthetics – both, on-screen and off-screen – mirror an aesthetics of queerness that militate against the normative expectations of a male star in the Bombay film industry. The characters that he plays on screen, his fashion, as well as his public conduct, together, are responsible for the construction of such an aesthetic. Rather than using 'queer theory' to examine the stardom of Ranveer Singh, this essay will look for ways in which Singh's aesthetics allow the spectators to read queerness in non-identitarian ways. Singh's body of works and his body-as-text repeatedly sabotage normative heterosexual tendencies, thereby, revealing that queerness need not always flow out of LGBTQ marked bodies. There were two Indian nationalist assassinations in London in the twentieth century: Sir William Curzon Wyllie by Madan Lal Dhingra in 1909 and Sir Michael O'Dwyer by Udham Singh in 1940. We read these assassinations as social dramas during which shifting meanings of British imperialism were articulated, contested and reinforced. We compare the cases to examine how Dhingra and Singh's insistence on the iniquity of colonial violence contested dominant narratives of the British Empire as benign. Capital trials offered Dhingra and Singh the chance to state their views on a public stage. History of Kashmir is full of tales of terror and oppression. For centuries, despite change of rulers and reigns, sufferings of Kashmiris have continued unabated. Sikh rule under Maharaja Ranjit Singh is particularly, accused of persecution of Kashmiris. This persistent privation forced many Kashmiris to leave their homeland and settle in other areas of the Punjab during Sikh rule. Maharaja Ranjit Singh replaced eight governors one after the other, mainly on account of charges of persecuting Kashmiris however; neither miseries of Kashmiris halted nor their migration to other parts of Punjab. In addition to this 'push', establishment of factory of Kashmiri shawls and several residential colonies in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, also attracted lots of Kashmiris to Punjab where better prospects of employment, habitation and self-esteem existed. The current study therefore, would mainly focus on various 'push and pull' factors that forced Kashmiris to abandon their homes and settle in various parts of the Punjab during the Sikh rule. Additionally, the study will also explore, in the light of primary and secondary sources, the existing narrative against Maharaja Ranjit Singh for persecuting and forcing relocation of Kashmiris, and see if these allegations hold some ground or these are mere stereotypes and part of some larger conspiracy theory to divide the Muslims and the Sikh communities. Objective To investigate the correlation between Singh index and serum bone metabolism biochemical indexes in middle-aged and elderly patients with hipfragility fracture， Methods The data of 71 middle-aged and elderly patients with hip fragility fractures (including femoral neck fractures and femoral intertrochanteric fractures) admitted to the Department of Joint Surgery, the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University from January 2019 to July 2022 were retrospectively analyzed ，including demographic data，serum biochemical indicators ，and related biochemical indicators of bone metabolism,which included Parathyroid hormone ( PTH ) ，25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25 ( OH) D3 ) ，insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1)，and Singh index of the contralateral proximal femur were evaluated by X-ray film. The patients were divided into three groups according to the Singh index measured by the upper femur anteroposition X-ray flm. The differences in general data，ALB, ALP, PTH, 25(OH)D3， and IGF-1 among the three groups were analyzed by Mann-Whimey U test and Sperman correlation tcst Ordinal logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors related to the trabecular bone quality of proximal femur， Results The result of Single factor analysis showed that there were significant differences in 25( OH)D3 and IGF-1 among the three groups (P < 0.05). In the time of Guru Nanak and his successors three terms were used for the Sikh sacred space: sangat, dharamsal and the gurdwara. The most frequently used term was the sangat, followed by the dharamsal, and it seems that the term gurdwara came into currency in the time of Ranjit Singh. The institution of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh laid great emphasis on a new way of life for the Khalsa. Consequently, two new literary forms emerged, the Rahitnamas and the Gurbilas, which reflect deeper interest in the sacred space. With the vesting of Guruship in the Granth and the Panth by the tenth Guru, the sacred space became all the more important: the Guru Granth was installed in the dharamsal and the Guru Panth was present there. In the late eighteenth century, the number of Gurdwaras built and maintained with grants from the Sikh rulers became larger than ever before. A new class of people connected with the Gurdwaras emerged, like the granthis, ragis, rababis, dhadis and the pujaris. The importance of the Harmandir and its sanctity increased. Ranjit Singh renovated, beautified and gold‐plated the Harmandir Sahib, and brought it international recognition. The Harmandir Sahib became the foremost Gurdwara of the Sikhs. In response to the comments by Singh and colleagues about our recent paper proposing a unified hypothesis of SUDEP, we definitely agree that more research is needed. This research should include studies in other models, including Dravet mice, emphasized by Singh et al. However, we strongly believe the hypothesis is timely, because it is based on the continuing progress on SUDEP‐related research on serotonin (5‐HT) and adenosine as well as neuroanatomical findings.We propose testing of 5‐HT enhancing drugs, neurotoxicity blocking drugs, such as N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) antagonists and periaqueductal gray (PAG) electrical stimulation for SUDEP prevention. There are FDA‐approved drugs that enhance the action of 5‐HT, including fluoxetine and fenfluramine, which is approved for Dravet syndrome. NMDA antagonists, including memantine and ketamine, are also approved for other disorders. PAG electrical stimulation, which is proposed to activate a suffocation alarm, is also approved to treat other conditions and is known to enhance respiration. Experiments using these methods are currently being carried out in animal studies. If these approaches are validated in SUDEP models, treatments could be evaluated relatively quickly in patients with epilepsy (PWE) who exhibit a biomarker for high SUDEP risk, such as peri‐ictal respiratory abnormalities. An example of such a study is the ongoing clinical trial of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor in PWE. Although, gene‐based therapies may ultimately become treatments of choice to prevent SUDEP, as Singh et al suggested, one or more of the approaches we proposed could become temporizing treatments before gene‐based therapies can be available. Establishing genetic treatments would require extensive time for each of the genetic abnormalities associated with SUDEP, and too many PWE are likely to die in the meantime.The temporizing treatments may help to reduce the incidence of SUDEP sooner, which is urgently needed. Dendrophthoe longensis L.J. Singh is described as a new species from the Long Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, and its conservation status is assessed. It is an aerial branch hemi‐parasite on Mangifera indica L. (Anacardiaceae), and serves as a host for caterpillars of Delias eucharis Drury (Lepidoptera: Pieridae); this could be threats to population of the new species. This new species differs from other Dendrophthoe species in vegetative morphology, inflorescence architecture, and floral characters. However, it appears apparently close to D. glabrescens (Blakely) Barlow in growth and habit. This paper examines the treatment of unplanned pregnancies as strategic plot-points within two recent and seemingly disparate works of Hindi cinema—Kabir Singh and Thappad. Commercial Hindi films have begun to depict a variety of female characters. However, the positioning of motherhood as the undisputed outcome of every pregnancy curiously remains an unshakeable norm. By juxtaposing the thematic use of pregnancy in a misogynistic film and a progressive one, I explore the persistent appeal of chastity and motherhood as the hallmarks of desirable Hindi film heroines. I examine the undisputed and implicit acceptance of unintended pregnancies within these films as an unwitting conciliation with patriarchal anxieties. The Dakhani Sikhs are residents of the Nizam of Hyderabad's state of Deccan now trifurcated into three states of Telengana, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Hyderabad and Nanded are the cities with largest population concentration of Sikhs. They claim to be the descendants of the Lahori Fauj of Maharaja Ranjit Singh that arrived in Hyderabad in 1830 at the Nizam's request to restore law and order in the state. They married local women and adopted local cultural and religious practices too without compromising Sikh tenets. They are particular about their Sikh form and identity and claim to carry the legacy of Guru Gobind Singh who spent the last days of his life at Nanded. This article is a study of an early Indian anti-colonial revolutionary movement (the Ghadar Movement) through the life and testimonies of Jodh Singh. Jodh Singh straddled the worlds of official imaginaries and revolutionary realities. He was a Punjabi Sikh and had been a migrant labourer, revolutionary, turncoat and approver before being imprisoned for refusing to give evidence in a courtroom in San Francisco in 1917 and suffering a psychotic breakdown in the early weeks of 1918. The detailed interviews and analyses of Jodh Singh's madness offer some measure of intimacy with the rank and file of the Ghadar Movement about whom very little was ever recorded or preserved. It also becomes a prism through which an understanding can be reached of the neuroses that plagued both the United Kingdom and the United States. The desire to prosecute a trans-national and trans-Pacific conspiracy about which they knew very little, resulted in Ghadar assuming a fictive, nightmarish quality in the Anglo-American imagination. Avian species diversity and their assemblage are responsible for maintaining the integrity and health of any ecosystem. Documentation of avian diversity in different habitats is sensitive tool for monitoring the environmental condition. The present investigation aimed to record the diversity of avian fauna at the main campus and agricultural landscapes of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana agricultural University, Hisar (Haryana). Line transect and point count methods were used to taking observations on different species of birds. A total of 101 bird species under 17 orders 43 families and 86 genera were recorded; out of them, 78, 17, 5 and one species were resident, winter migrant, summer migrant and passage migrant, respectively. Species richness of order Passeriformes was highest, followed by Pelecaniformes and Muscicapidae, the most diverse family in the study area. Analysis of food and feeding guilds revealed that the insectivorous guild is predominant, followed by Omnivore, Carnivore, Granivore, Frugivore and Nectarivore. Out of the total observed species, 23 have declining population trends at global level, whereas three species (Alexandrine Parakeet, Asian Woollyneck, Black-headed ibis) are listed as Near Threatened and Common Pochard is vulnerable as per IUCN Red List. The species richness was significantly higher in farmland, followed by main campus and experimental orchards. Jaccard's similarity index between habitats revealed that the main campus and farmland area has a maximum (0.73) similarity in bird communities. Some of the groups claim orthopraxy and orthodoxy, but this essay argues the majority of these groups are an amalgamation of different influences that have adapted their practices according to the Singh Sabha movement and concludes with an analysis of how these influences play out via Sikh media and the internet. Formed in the United States of America, the Ghadar Party was the harbinger of novel perspectives in Indian politics. The British Government crushed this movement ruthlessly during the early days of the World War I. There exist only limited literature which focuses on the lives of those Ghadarites who made daring efforts to establish a revolutionary movement. This paper assesses the early life of Sohan Singh Bhakna who was to later become the founder of the Ghadar Party. His long life span of ninety eight years presents a picture of a man who remained consistent in his actions whatever may be the consequences. In this article, an attempt is made to bring out the early, formative years, of the life of this revolutionary before he decided to migrate to America. The paper suggests that, it was not only the American liberal but racialized atmosphere which influenced his actions, leading him to think deeply about the meaning of slavery and freedom, but also his life experiences in Punjab itself, especially his interactions with Baba Kesar, which had a transforming impact on his state of mind. Background: To investigate the predictive value of the Singh index for the risk of InterTAN intramedullary fixation failure in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fracture to guide clinical treatment. Methods: A total of 360 patients were divided into the Singh (I ~ II) (n = 120), Singh (III ~ IV) (n = 120) and Singh (V ~ VI) (n = 120) groups. Visual analog scale (VAS) and Harris scores were recorded at 1, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after the operation. The correlation between the Singh index and the T-score of the total hip and femoral neck was analyzed. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between the Singh index and internal fixation failure; the types of internal fixation failure were also analyzed. Results: The Harris scores of the Singh (I ~ II) group were lower than those of the Singh (III ~ IV) and Singh (V ~ VI) groups 12, 18 and 24 months after surgery (P < 0.05). The Singh index was significantly correlated with the T-score of the total hip and femoral neck (P = 0.00, r = 0.89; P = 0.00, r = 0.83). The Singh (I ~ II) group had the lowest internal fixation survival rate within 24 months (P = 0.01). The Singh index was an independent predictor of internal fixation failure (P < 0.05). Lag screw cutting-out was the main type of internal fixation failure in the three groups (P = 0.00). Conclusion: The Singh index is significantly correlated with the bone mineral density of the femoral neck and total hip. The Singh (I ~ II) group had lower Harris scores and a lower internal fixation survival rate than the other two groups. In pairing this commitment with disseminating her photographs through book and portable museum formats, in which photographs are reused over the course of decades, she has developed a practice that she recognises as fundamentally archival. This article examines two distinct elements of Singh's oeuvre: Myself Mona Ahmed (2001), a book created with her friend Mona, a self-described 'eunuch' cast out of her community in Delhi; and File Room, a constantly unfolding project appearing in multiple book and museum formats, focused on the materiality and temporality of the archive. I read both as part of Singh's 'intimate archive', and understand this thread in her work as a feminist practise, one that extends to her invitation to viewers to engage with the book and museum objects, reworking these images into new intimate archives. Background: Litarge (Lead II oxide) is named Murder-sang, Murdar Singh or Mordab-Sangh (MS) in person, is applied to reduce body odor in the axillary and legs. Several other indications were mentioned in ancient medicine such as syphilitic chancre wound healing, bed sore, and so forth. We reported lead intoxication by eating a few MS. Case: A 34-year-old man was visited due to accidentally consuming his wife's MS powder by adding to his food instead of spices, 10 days earlier. He experienced acute abdominal pain and non-bloody diarrhea 6 hours after ingestion. His symptoms were finally treated by supportive therapy despite their persisted. Ten days later, his blood lead level was 1250 µg/L. His hemoglobin level reduced and transaminase raised to 1.5 times more than the upper limit. He was treated with oral Succimer 10 mg/kg three times a day in the first 5 days and continued by 10mg/kg twice a day up to 21 days. On the 5th day of treatment, his symptoms improved. His blood lead level was 545.5 µg/L on the 8th day of treatment and reduced to 254 µg/L and 245 µg/L one and two months later. Discussion: Mordab-Sangh could induce lead toxicity if ingested. The purpose of this article is to define some intermediate q-Lauricella functions, to find convergence regions in two different forms, and to prove corresponding reduction formulas by using a known lemma from our first book. These convergence regions are given in form of q-additions and q-real numbers. The third q-real number plays a special role in the computations. Generating functions are proved by using the q-binomial theorem. Finally, special cases of q-Lauricella functions as well as confluent forms in the spirit of Chandel Singh and Gupta are given. The aims of this appreciation of the life and work of Jaswant Singh Neki (1925–2015), a leading Indian psychiatrist and Sikh scholar, are: (1) to revisit Neki's contributions to social psychiatry through his employment of the Indian paradigm of the gurū-chelā relationship; (2) to contrast and compare Neki's gurū-chelā paradigm for psychotherapy with the Western "I-centred paradigm" of psychotherapy; and (3) to examine the impact of Neki's gurū-chelā paradigm in India and the Indian diaspora and to synthesize it with contemporary trends in psychotherapy in Western societies. Dr. Naveena Singh, an internationally recognized academic surgical pathologist, passed away, leaving a significant impact on the pathology community. She practiced at Barts Health in London for her entire career and later moved to Canada to take up a professorial role at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Singh made important contributions to the field of gynecological pathology and cytopathology, including devising a system for grading response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and formulating guidelines for assigning the primary site of extra-uterine serous carcinoma. She was also actively involved in various organizations and played a key role in organizing educational programs and meetings. Dr. Singh's passion for education and her ability to bring people together inspired many in the field. She was elected president of the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists in 2023 but was unable to assume the role due to her illness. Research into the impact of a politician's sociodemographic profile on vote choice in Westminster-style systems has been hindered by the relative sociodemographic homogeneity of party leaders. Past research has focused mainly on the evaluation of local candidates in the American context, but given that elections in plurality systems are far less candidate-oriented , the evaluation of local candidates tells us little about the prevalence of affinity or discrimination in other contexts. This article investigates the effect of political leaders' ethnicity on political behavior by looking at the case of Jagmeet Singh in Canada, the first federal party leader of color in the country's history. While the literature has shown that the gender of leaders in Canada can matter, little is known about the attitudes of Canadians toward party leaders of color specifically. We are interested in the evaluations of Singh and his party, as well as the shifts in voting intentions between elections in 2015 and 2019. The present essay discusses the visual representation of masculinity in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh (2019). Kabir Singh is a machomelodrama and a romantic account of the eponymous character, Kabir Singh, and his spiralling into self-destruction following his separation from his love interest, Preeti Sikka. Through the strategic exploitation of masculine tropes and symbols in the cinematic narrative, Vanga aims to construct the male protagonist, Kabir, as the public face of the hegemonic masculine ideology. The film, which offers to its audience a heteronormative heterotopia, also reinforces the patriarchal agenda through the portrayal of a sentimental, submissive woman with negligible autonomy. The article aims to develop its argument of masculinity and its association with pervasive power in the film through the reading of specific scenes through the intellectual and theoretical apparatuses of R.W. Connell, Michael Kimmell, and Michael Kaufman. It looks at the construction of masculinities as a homosocial enactment and also reads the protagonist's borderline toxic behaviour through the theories of machoism and overcompensation of masculine identities. The paper concludes with situating Kabir Singh in Bollywood's continuum of toxic masculinity. Through the deployment of masculinities and its nexus with sexism, this research paper also aims to query how machoistic scripts of masculinity implicate heterosexual romantic relationships.
