We calculate the form factors $F_{V}(q^2,q'^2)$ and $F_{TV}(q^2,q'^2)$ describing the $B_s\to \gamma^*$ transition induced by the vector and tensor weak currents in a broad range of values of $q^2$ and $q'^2$ far below the quark thresholds in both $q^2$ and $q'^2$ channels. These form factors are calculated via the distribution amplitudes of the $B_s$-meson. We then interpolate the obtained results by a formula that contains pole at $q'^2=M_\phi^2$ and extract the residue which gives the $B_s\to \phi$ transition form factors $V(q^2)$ and $T_1(q^2)$. In this way we obtain theoretical predictions for these form factors without invoking quark-hadron duality and QCD sum rules. Furthermore, we calculate the relationship between $V(0)$ and $T_1(0)$ and the parameter $\lambda_{B_s}(\mu)$, the inverse moment of the $B_s$-meson distribution amplitude. Using the available predictions for $V(0)$ and $T_1(0)$ coming from approaches not referring to the $B_s$-meson distribution amplitudes, we obtain the estimate $\lambda_{B_s}(\mu\simeq m_b)=(0.62\pm 0.10)$ GeV., Comment: 11 pages

We present updated estimates of $\vert V_{cb} \vert$ and $R(D^{(*)})$ based on all the available theoretical and experimental data on semileptonic $B \to D^{(*)} \ell \nu_\ell$ decays. These values have been obtained by using the Dispersive Matrix method to describe the hadronic form factors. By analysing all the lattice data we get the theoretical values $R^{\rm th}(D) = 0.296 \pm 0.008$ and $R^{\rm th}(D^*) = 0.262 \pm 0.009$, which are consistent with the corresponding HFLAV averages at the $\simeq 2.0\,\sigma$ and the $\simeq 1.5\,\sigma$ level, respectively. Moreover, from a bin-per-bin study of the experimental data we obtain the values $\vert V_{cb} \vert = (41.0 \pm 1.2) \cdot10^{-3}$ from $B \to D$ decay and $\vert V_{cb} \vert = (39.92 \pm 0.64) \cdot10^{-3}$ from $B \to D^*$ one, whose differences with the latest inclusive determinations never exceed the $\simeq 2.5\,\sigma$ level., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures. We present a lattice determination of the hadronic susceptibilities that, thanks to unitarity and analyticity, constrain the form factors entering the semileptonic $b\rightarrow c$ transitions. We evaluate the transverse and longitudinal susceptibilities of the vector and axial polarization functions at zero momentum transfer from the moments of appropriate two-point correlation functions. The latter are obtained on the lattice employing gauge ensembles of the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f$=2+1+1 flavors of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks with masses of all the dynamical quark flavors tuned close to their physical values. The simulations are carried out at four values of the lattice spacing, $a \simeq (0.057,0.068, 0.080, 0.091)$ fm, with spatial lattice sizes up to $L \simeq 7.6$ fm. In this contribution we describe a recent study focused on the lattice calculation of inclusive decay rates of heavy mesons. We show how the inclusive calculation can be achieved starting from four-point lattice correlation functions normalised appropriately. The correlators used in this project come from gauge ensembles provided by the JLQCD and ETM collaborations. An essential point of this method is the extraction of spectral densities from lattice correlators which is obtained using two of the most recent approaches in the literature. Our results are in remarkable agreement with analytical predictions from the operator-product expansion. Inclusive hadronic decays of the $\tau$ lepton are very interesting from the phenomenological point of view since they give access to the CKM matrix elements $V_{ud}$ and $V_{us}$. In this paper, for the first time, by employing the HLT method for hadronic smeared spectral densities we compute on the lattice the inclusive decay rate of the processes $\tau \to X_{ud}\, \nu_\tau$, where $X_{ud}$ is a generic hadronic state with $\bar{u} d$ flavor quantum numbers. Our computation, which avoids any recourse to OPE and/or perturbative approximations, is carried out in isospin symmetric $N_{f}=2+1+1$ lattice QCD at physical quark masses, using ensembles produced by the ETMC at three lattice spacings and two volumes. All uncertainties, except for isospin breaking effects, are taken into account and a result with a subpercent error is obtained for $|V_{ud}|$, which is nicely consistent with the current world average. These findings validate our approach and also motivate the inclusion of isospin breaking corrections and its extension to the inclusive decay $\tau \to X_{us}\, \nu_\tau$, paving the way towards a high-precision first principles determination of $|V_{us}|$ and $|V_{ud}|$ from inclusive $\tau$ decay., Comment: 23 pages, 8 figures

$B_s \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma$, measured at high $q^2$ as a partially reconstructed decay, can probe the origin of the existing discrepancies in semi-leptonic $b \to s$ and $b \to c$ decays. We perform a complete study of this possibility. We start by reassessing the alleged discrepancies, with a focus on a unified EFT description. Using the SMEFT, we find that the tauonic Wilson coefficient required by $R(D^{(*)})$ implies a universal muonic Wilson coefficient of precisely the size required by semi-muonic BR data and, separately, by semi-muonic angular analyses. We thus identify reference scenarios. Importantly, $B_s \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma$ offers a strategy to access them without being affected by the long-distance issues that hamper the prediction of semi-leptonic $B$ decays at low $q^2$. After quantifying to the best of our knowledge the $B_s \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma$ experimental over the long haul, we infer the $B_s \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma$ sensitivity to the couplings relevant to the anomalies. In the example of the real-$\delta C_{9,10}$ scenario, we find significances below 3$\sigma$. Such figure is to be compared with other single-observable sensitivities that one can expect from e.g. BR and angular data, whether at low or high $q^2$, and not affected by long-distance issues such as narrow resonances or intermediate charmed di-meson rescattering., Comment: 29 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables

Form factors are crucial theory input in order to extract $|V_{cb}|$ from $B \to D^{(*)}\ell\nu$ decays, to calculate the Standard Model prediction for ${\cal R}(D^{(*)})$ and to assess the impact of New Physics. In this context, the Dispersive Matrix approach, a first-principle calculation of the form factors, using no experimental data but rather only lattice QCD results as input, was recently applied to $B \to D^{(*)}\ell\nu$. It predicts (within the Standard Model) a much milder tension with the ${\cal R}(D^*)$ measurements than the other form factor approaches, while at the same time giving a value of $|V_{cb}|$ compatible with the inclusive value. However, this comes at the expense of creating tensions with differential $B\to D^*\ell\nu$ distributions (with light leptons). In this article, we explore the implications of using the Dispersive Matrix method form factors, in light of the recent Belle (II) measurements of the longitudinal polarization fraction of the $D^*$ in $B\to D^*\ell\nu$ with light leptons, $F_L^{\ell}$, and the forward-backward asymmetry, $A_{\rm FB}^{\ell}$. We find that the Dispersive Matrix approach predicts a Standard Model value of $F_L^{\ell}$ that is in significant tension with these measurements, while mild deviations in $A_{\rm FB}^{\ell}$ appear. Furthermore, $F_L^{\ell}$ is very insensitive to New Physics such that the latter cannot account for the tension between Dispersive Matrix predictions and its measurement. While this tension can be resolved by deforming the original Dispersive Matrix form factor shapes within a global fit, a tension in ${\cal R}(D^*)$ reemerges. As this tension is milder than for the other form factors, it can be explained by New Physics not only in the tau lepton channel but also in the light lepton modes., Comment: Journal version, conclusions unchanged. 16 pages, 3 figures, 1 appendix

We use a recent lattice determination of the vector and axial $D_s \to \gamma$ form factors at high squared momentum transfer $q^2$ to infer their $B_s \to \gamma$ counterparts. To this end, we introduce a phenomenological approach summarized as follows. First, we describe the lattice data with different fit templates motivated by vector-meson dominance, that is expected to hold in the high-$q^2$ region considered. We identify reference fit ansaetze with one or two physical poles, that we validate against alternative templates. Then, the pole residues can be unambiguously related to the appropriate couplings involving the pseudoscalar, the vector mesons concerned, and the photon -- or tri-couplings -- and the latter can be expressed as sums over quark magnetic moments, weighed by their e.m. charges. This description obeys a well-defined heavy-quark scaling, that allows to parametrically scale up the form factors to the $B_s \to \gamma$ case. We discuss a number of cross-checks of the whole approach, whose validation rests ultimately in a first-principle determination, e.g. in lattice QCD. Finally, we use our obtained form factors to reassess the SM prediction of $\mathcal{B}(B_s \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma)$ in the range $\sqrt{q^2} \in [4.2, 5.0]$ GeV, where an experimental measurement is awaited., Comment: 30 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables

The inclusive hadronic decay-rates of the $\tau$ lepton are particularly interesting from the phenomenological point of view since they give access to the CKM matrix elements $V_{ud}$ and $V_{us}$. In this talk, we discuss how a recent method for the extraction of smeared spectral densities from Euclidean lattice correlators can be used to obtain a direct lattice determination of inclusive hadronic $\tau$ decay rates. The ratio $R(E)$ of the cross-sections for $e^+e^-\to$ hadrons and $e^+e^-\to \mu^+\mu^-$ is a valuable energy-dependent probe of the hadronic sector of the Standard Model. Moreover, the experimental measurements of $R(E)$ are the inputs of the dispersive calculations of the leading hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g-2$ and these are in significant tension with direct lattice calculations and with the muon $g-2$ experiment. In this talk we discuss the results of our first-principles lattice study of $R(E)$. By using a recently proposed method for extracting smeared spectral densities from Euclidean lattice correlators, we have calculated $R(E)$ convoluted with Gaussian kernels of different widths $\sigma$ and central energies up to $2.5$ GeV. We present new lattice results of the ETM Collaboration, obtained from extensive simulations of lattice QCD with dynamical up, down, strange and charm quarks at physical mass values, different volumes and lattice spacings, concerning the SM prediction for the so-called intermediate window (W) and short-distance (SD) contributions to the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization (LO-HVP) term of the muon anomalous magnetic moment, $a_\mu$. Results for $a_{\mu}^{\rm LO-HVP,W}$ and $a_{\mu}^{\rm LO-HVP,SD}$, besides representing a step forward to a complete lattice computation of $a_{\mu}^{\rm LO-HVP}$ and a useful benchmark among lattice groups, are compared here with their dispersive counterparts based on experimental data for $e^+e^-$ into hadrons. We present a first-principles lattice QCD investigation of the $R$-ratio between the $e^+e^-$ cross-section into hadrons and that into muons. By using the method of Ref.[1], that allows to extract smeared spectral densities from Euclidean correlators, we compute the $R$-ratio convoluted with Gaussian smearing kernels of widths of about $600$ MeV and central energies from $220$ MeV up to $2.5$ GeV. Our theoretical results are compared with the corresponding quantities obtained by smearing the KNT19 compilation [2] of $R$-ratio experimental measurements with the same kernels and, by centring the Gaussians in the region around the $\rho$-resonance peak, a tension of about three standard deviations is observed. From the phenomenological perspective, we have not included yet in our calculation QED and strong isospin-breaking corrections and this might affect the observed tension. From the methodological perspective, our calculation demonstrates that it is possible to study the $R$-ratio in Gaussian energy bins on the lattice at the level of accuracy required in order to perform precision tests of the Standard Model., Comment: Version accepted for publication on PRL. We present a lattice determination of the disconnected contributions to the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) to the muon anomalous magnetic moment in the so-called short and intermediate time-distance windows. We employ gauge ensembles produced by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ flavours of Wilson twisted-mass clover-improved quarks with masses approximately tuned to their physical value. Flavour mixing and CP violation as measured in weak decays and mixing of neutral mesons are a fundamental tool to test the Standard Model (SM) and to search for new physics. New analyses performed at the LHC experiment open an unprecedented insight into the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) metrology and new evidence for rare decays. Important progress has also been achieved in theoretical calculations of several hadronic quantities with a remarkable reduction of the uncertainties. This improvement is essential since previous studies of the Unitarity Triangle did show that possible contributions from new physics, if any, must be tiny and could easily be hidden by theoretical and experimental errors. Thanks to the experimental and theoretical advances, the CKM picture provides very precise SM predictions through global analyses. We present the lattice QCD calculation of inclusive semileptonic $B_s$-meson decays. We follow a recently proposed method, which is based on the extraction of smeared spectral densities from Euclidean correlation functions and on the numerical reconstruction of the integration kernel relevant for the inclusive decay rate calculation. We compute four-point Euclidean correlation functions using JLQCD and ETM gauge ensembles with unphysically light $b$-quark masses, and apply two different methods for the integration kernel reconstruction. Finally, we show that the lattice results obtained in this work are in good agreement with the analytic predictions of the operator-product-expansion. We present an application of the unitarity-based dispersion matrix (DM) approach to the extraction of the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ from the experimental data on the exclusive semileptonic $B_{(s)} \to D_{(s)}^{(*)} \ell \nu_\ell$ decays. The DM method allows to achieve a non-perturbative, model-independent determination of the momentum dependence of the semileptonic form factors. Starting from lattice results available at large values of the 4-momentum transfer and implementing non-perturbative unitarity bound, the behaviour of the form factors in their whole kinematical range is obtained without introducing any explicit parameterization of their momentum dependence. We consider the four exclusive semileptonic $B_{(s)} \to D_{(s)}^{(*)} \ell \nu_\ell$ decays and extract $|V_{cb}|$ from the experimental data for each transition. The average over the four channels is $|V_{cb}| = (41.2 \pm 0.8) \cdot 10^{-3} $, which is compatible with the latest inclusive determination at $1\sigma$ level. We address also the issue of Lepton Flavour Universality by computing pure theoretical estimates of the $\tau/\ell$ ratios of the branching fractions for each channel, where $\ell$ is a light lepton. In the case of a light spectator quark we obtain $R(D^*) = 0.275(8)$ and $R(D) = 0.296(8)$, which are compatible with the corresponding experimental values within $1.3\sigma$. In the case of a strange spectator quark we obtain $\textit{R}(D_s^*) =0.2497(60)$ and $\textit{R}(D_s) = 0.298(5)$. The different values for $R(D_s^*)$ and $R(D^*)$ may reflect $SU(3)_F$ symmetry breaking effects, which seem to be present in some of the lattice form factors, especially at large values of the recoil., Comment: Contribution to ICHEP-2022

In this contribution we analyse the heavy-to-light $B$ decays through the Dispersive Matrix method, which can be applied to any semileptonic decays of hadrons once lattice QCD computations of the hadronic Form Factors and of the relevant susceptibilities are available. We will explicitly discuss the application of the Dispersive Matrix approach to both $B \to \pi \ell \nu_{\ell}$ and $B_s \to K \ell \nu_{\ell}$ decays. As usual in our analysis strategy, only LQCD computations of the FFs at high values of the momentum transfer will be used to determine the shape of the FFs in the whole kinematical range without making any assumption on their momentum dependence. Then, the experimental data will be used only to obtain our final exclusive determinations of $\vert V_{ub} \vert$. In this way, our calculation of the FFs allows to obtain pure theoretical estimates of several quantities of phenomenological interest, for instance the $\tau/\mu$ ratio of the differential decay rates $R_{\pi(K)}^{\tau/\mu}$, which is an important tool for testing Lepton Flavour Universality. We present a non-perturbative computation of inclusive rates of semileptonic decays of heavy mesons from lattice QCD simulations. The calculation is based on the extraction of smeared spectral functions obtained from four-point Euclidean correlation functions computed on configuration ensembles of the JLQCD and ETM collaborations. We compare our results for the inclusive decay rates with analytical predictions from the operator-product expansion, finding a good agreement for the calculation of the inclusive decay rate. Lattice quantum chromodynamics has proven to be an indispensable method to determine nonperturbative strong contributions to weak decay processes. In this white paper for the Snowmass community planning process we highlight achievements and future avenues of research for lattice calculations of weak $b$ and $c$ quark decays, and point out how these calculations will help to address the anomalies currently in the spotlight of the particle physics community. We present some applications of the unitarity-based Dispersion Matrix (DM) approach to the extraction of the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ from the experimental data on the exclusive $B_{(s)} \to D_{(s)}^{(*)} \ell \nu_\ell$ decays. We present an ab initio study of inclusive semileptonic decays of heavy mesons from lattice QCD. Our approach is based on a recently proposed method, that allows one to address the study of these decays from the analysis of smeared spectral functions extracted from four-point correlators on the lattice, where the smearing is defined in terms of the phase-space integration relevant to the inclusive decays. We present results obtained from gauge-field ensembles from the JLQCD and ETM collaborations, and discuss their relation with theoretical predictions from the operator-product expansion., Comment: 51 pages, 27 figures and 4 tables. We present a lattice calculation of the Euclidean position-space windows contributing to the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization term of the muon anomalous magnetic moment $a_\mu$. Short-, intermediate- and long-distance windows are considered in order to isolate different scales sensitive to specific integration ranges of experimental time-like data used in the R-ratio. By adopting the same smooth window function introduced by the RBC and UKQCD Collaborations with width parameter $\Delta = 0.15~\rm fm$, for the isospin-symmetric, light, quark-connected component we get $a_\mu^{\rm SD} (ud) = 48.21\,(80) \cdot 10^{-10}$ , $a_\mu^{\rm W} (ud) = 202.2\,(2.6) \cdot 10^{-10}$ and $a_\mu^{\rm LD} (ud) = 382.5\,(11.7) \cdot 10^{-10}$ in the short- (SD), intermediate- (W) and long-distance (LD) time regions, respectively, with $t_0 = 0.4~\rm fm$ and $t_1 = 1.0~\rm fm$. Our results are obtained using the gauge configurations generated by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f=2+1+1$ dynamical quarks, at three values of the lattice spacing varying from 0.089 to 0.062 fm, at several lattice volumes and with pion masses in the range $M_\pi \simeq 220 - 490~\rm MeV$., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. We present a determination of the gradient flow scales $w_0$, $\sqrt{t_0}$ and $t_0/w_0$ in isosymmetric QCD, making use of the gauge ensembles produced by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f=2+1+1$ flavours of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks including configurations close to the physical point for all dynamical flavours. The simulations are carried out at three values of the lattice spacing and the scale is set through the PDG value of the pion decay constant, yielding $w_0=0.17383(63)$ fm, $\sqrt{t_0}=0.14436(61)$ fm and $t_0/w_0=0.11969(62)$ fm. We present a new method aiming at a non-perturbative, model-independent determination of the momentum dependence of the form factors entering semileptonic decays using unitarity and analyticity constraints. We extend the original proposal and, using suitable two-point functions computed non-perturbatively, we determine the form factors at low-momentum transfer $q^2$ from those computed explicitly on the lattice at large $q^2$, without making any assumption about their $q^2$ dependence. As a training ground we apply the new method to the analysis of the lattice data of the semileptonic $D \rightarrow K \ell \nu_{\ell}$ decays obtained both at finite values of the lattice spacing and at the physical pion point in the continuum limit. We show that, starting from a limited set of data at large $q^2$, it is possible to determine quite precisely the form factors in a model independent way in the full kinematical range, obtaining a remarkable agreement with the direct calculation of the form factors. This finding opens the possibility to obtain non-perturbatively the form factors entering the semileptonic B decays in the full kinematical range., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. We show how to extract the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element $\vert V_{cb} \vert$ from exclusive semileptonic $B \to D^{(*)}$ decays by using the Dispersive Matrix (DM) method. It is a new approach which allows to determine in a full non-perturbative way the hadronic form factors (FFs) in the whole kinematical range, without making any assumption on their dependence on the momentum transfer. We investigate also the issue of Lepton Flavor Universality (LFU) by computing a pure theoretical estimate of the ratio $R(D^{(*)})$. Our approach is applied to the preliminary LQCD computations of the FFs, published by the FNAL/MILC [1] and the JLQCD [2] Collaborations, for the $B \to D^*$ decays and to the final ones, computed by FNAL/MILC [3], for the $B \to D$ transitions . Since the FNAL/MILC Collaborations have recently published the final results of their LQCD computations of the FFs [4] for the $B \to D^*$ case, we present also the results of our procedure after its application on these data. We find $ \vert V_{cb} \vert = (41.0 \pm 1.2) \cdot 10^{-3}$ and $\vert V_{cb} \vert = (41.3 \pm 1.7) \cdot 10^{-3}$ from $B \to D$ and $B \to D^*$ decays, respectively. These estimates are consistent within $1\sigma$ with the most recent inclusive determination $\vert V_{cb}\vert_{incl} = (42.16 \pm 0.50) \cdot 10^{-3}$ [5]. Furthermore, we obtain $R(D) = 0.289(8)$ and $R(D^*) = 0.269(8)$, which are both compatible with the latest experimental averages [6] at the $\sim$1.6$\sigma$ level., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures. In perturbation theory, the spectral densities of two-point functions develop non-integrable threshold singularities at higher orders. In QCD, such singularities emerge when calculating the diagrams in terms of the pole quark mass, and they become stronger when one rearranges the perturbative expansion in terms of the running quark mass. We present a preliminary study of the pion, kaon and D-meson masses and decay constants in isosymmetric QCD, as well as a preliminary result for the light-quark renormalized mass. The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $a_\mu$ is one of the most accurate quantities in Particle Physics. The long-standing discrepancy of about $3.7$ standard deviations between the experimental value and the prediction of the Standard Model could represent an intriguing indication of New Physics. The experiments at Fermilab (E989) and at J-PARC (E34) aim at reducing significantly the experimental uncertainty, thus making the theoretical one due to hadronic corrections the main limitation of this stringent test of the Standard Model. In this contribution we present the results of a first-principles lattice calculation of the hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) contribution to $a_\mu$, including electromagnetic and $SU(2)$-breaking corrections. Our determination, $a_\mu^{\rm HVP} = 682.0 ~ (18.7) \cdot 10^{-10}$, turns out to be in agreement with recent theoretical determinations based on the dispersive analyses of the experimental cross section data for the annihilation process $e^+e^- \to hadrons$. In this contribution we present a lattice calculation of the leading-order electromagnetic and strong isospin-breaking (IB) corrections to the quark-connected hadronic-vacuum-polarization (HVP) contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. The results are obtained adopting the RM123 approach in the quenched-QED approximation and using the QCD gauge configurations generated by the ETM Collaboration with $N_f = 2+1+1$ dynamical quarks, at three values of the lattice spacing ($a \simeq 0.062, 0.082, 0.089$ fm), at several lattice volumes and with pion masses between $\simeq 210$ and $\simeq 450$ MeV. After the extrapolations to the physical pion mass and to the continuum and infinite-volume limits the contributions of the light, strange and charm quarks are respectively equal to $\delta a_\mu^{\rm HVP}(ud) = 7.1 ~ (2.5) \cdot 10^{-10}$, $\delta a_\mu^{\rm HVP}(s) = -0.0053 ~ (33) \cdot 10^{-10}$ and $\delta a_\mu^{\rm HVP}(c) = 0.0182 ~ (36) \cdot 10^{-10}$. The precision of lattice QCD computations of many quantities has reached such a precision that isospin-breaking corrections, including electromagnetism, must be included if further progress is to be made in extracting fundamental information, such as the values of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, from experimental measurements. We discuss the framework for including radiative corrections in leptonic and semileptonic decays of hadrons, including the treatment of infrared divergences. We briefly review isospin breaking in leptonic decays and present the first numerical results for the ratio $\Gamma(K_{\mu2})/\Gamma(\pi_{\mu2})$ in which these corrections have been included. We also discuss the additional theoretical issues which arise when including electromagnetic corrections to semileptonic decays, such as $K_{\ell3}$ decays. The separate definition of strong isospin-breaking effects and those due to electromagnetism requires a convention. We define and advocate conventions based on hadronic schemes, in which a chosen set of hadronic quantities, hadronic masses for example, are set equal in QCD and in QCD+QED. We explore, by a rather peculiar limit of QCD sum rules subject to a Borel transformation (realized by allowing the related Borel mass parameter to approach infinity), how the small difference of the masses of up and down quark translates into the leptonic decay constants of pseudoscalar or vector heavy-light mesons. We present the QCD simulation of the first gauge ensemble of two degenerate light quarks, a strange and a charm quark with all quark masses tuned to their physical values within the twisted mass fermion formulation. Results for the pseudoscalar masses and decay constants confirm that the produced ensemble is indeed at the physical parameters of the theory. This conclusion is corroborated by a complementary analysis in the baryon sector. We examine cutoff and isospin breaking effects and demonstrate that they are suppressed through the presence of a clover term in the action., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures

Evaluation of Borelized QCD sum rules in the so-called local-duality limit of infinitely large Borel mass parameter provides an alternate route for extraction of the dependence of the decay constants of heavy-light mesons on the mass $m_q$ of the involved light quark $q$: For appropriate choices of the two-point correlation functions of currents interpolating the hadrons under study, the local-duality limit forces all nonperturbative contributions parametrized by vacuum condensates to such kind of correlator to vanish. As a consequence, the sought $m_q$ dependence of the heavy-light meson decay constants proves to be controlled primarily by the correlator contributions from perturbative QCD. We present a new lattice determination of some of the parameters appearing both in the Operator Product Expansion (OPE) analysis of the inclusive semileptonic $B$-meson decays and in the Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE) of the pseudoscalar (PS) and vector (V) heavy-light meson masses. We perform a lattice QCD (LQCD) computation of PS and V heavy-light meson masses for heavy-quark masses $m_h$ in the range from $m_c^{\rm phys}$ to $\simeq 4m_b^{\rm phys}$. We employed the $N_f = 2+1+1$ gauge configurations of the European Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) at three values of the lattice spacing $a \simeq (0.062, 0.082, 0.089)$ fm with pion masses in the range $M_\pi \simeq (210 - 450)$ MeV. The heavy-quark mass is simulated directly on the lattice up to $\simeq 3m_c^{\rm phys}$. The interpolation to the physical $m_b^{\rm phys}$ is performed using the ETMC ratio method and adopting the kinetic mass scheme. We obtain $m_b^{\rm kin}(1~\mbox{GeV}) = 4.61 (20)$ GeV ($\overline{m}_b(\overline{m}_b) = 4.26 (18)$ GeV in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme). The lattice data are analyzed in terms of the HQE and the matrix elements of dimension-4 and dimension-5 operators are extracted with good precision, namely: $\overline{\Lambda} = 0.552 (26)$ GeV, $\mu_\pi^2 = 0.321 (32)$ GeV$^2$ and $\mu_G^2(m_b) = 0.253 (25)$ GeV$^2$. We present a lattice determination of the vector and scalar form factors of the $D\to\pi(K)\ell\nu$ semileptonic decays, which are relevant for the extraction of the CKM matrix elements $|V_{cd}|$ and $|V_{cs}|$ from experimental data. Our analysis is based on the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f=2+1+1$ flavors of dynamical quarks. We simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing and with pion masses as small as 210 MeV. The matrix elements of both vector and scalar currents are determined for a plenty of kinematical conditions in which parent and child mesons are either moving or at rest. Lorentz symmetry breaking due to hypercubic effects is clearly observed in the data and included in the decomposition of the current matrix elements in terms of additional form factors. We present a preliminary lattice calculation of the $D \to \pi$ and $D \to K$ tensor form factors $f_T(q^2)$ as a function of the squared 4-momentum transfer $q^2$. ETMC recently computed the vector and scalar form factors $f_+(q^2)$ and $f_0(q^2)$ describing $D \to \pi(K) \ell \nu$ semileptonic decays analyzing the vector current and the scalar density. The study of the weak tensor current, which is directly related to the tensor form factor, completes the set of hadronic matrix element regulating the transition between these two pseudoscalar mesons within and beyond the Standard Model where a non-zero tensor coupling is possible. Our analysis is based on the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ flavors of dynamical quarks. We simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing and with pion masses as small as 210 MeV and with the valence heavy quark in the mass range from $\simeq 0.7\, m_c$ to $\simeq 1.2\, m_c$. The matrix element of the tensor current are determined for a plethora of kinematical conditions in which parent and child mesons are either moving or at rest. As for the vector and scalar form factors, Lorentz symmetry breaking due to hypercubic effects is clearly observed in the data. QCD sum rules are analytic predictions of hadron observables from quantum chromodynamics. In the so-called local-duality limit of their Borel-transformed form, all nonperturbative contributions are encompassed by just a single quantity, an effective threshold beyond which, by assumption, all hadronic contributions are reliably described by perturbative QCD. Reconstructing its quark-mass dependence enables us to investigate the differences of the leptonic decay constants of heavy-light mesons effectuated by the tiny isospin-violating discrepancy of the masses of up and down quarks. We discuss the leptonic decay constants of heavy--light mesons by means of Borel QCD sum~rules in the local-duality (LD) limit of infinitely large Borel mass parameter. In this limit, for an appropriate choice of the invariant structures in the QCD correlation functions, all vacuum-condensate contributions vanish and all nonperturbative effects are contained in only one quantity, the effective threshold. We study properties of the LD effective thresholds in the limits of large heavy-quark mass $m_Q$ and small light-quark mass $m_q$. In the heavy-quark limit, we clarify the role played by the radiative corrections in the effective threshold for reproducing the pQCD expansion of the decay constants of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. We show that the dependence of the meson decay constants on $m_q$ arises predominantly (at the level of 70--80%) from the calculable $m_q$-dependence of the perturbative spectral densities. Making use of the lattice QCD results for the decay constants of nonstrange and strange pseudoscalar and vector heavy mesons, we obtain solid predictions for the decay constants of heavy--light mesons as functions of $m_q$ in the range from a few to 100 MeV and evaluate the corresponding strong isospin-breaking effects: $f_{D^+} - f_{D^0}=(0.96 \pm 0.09) ~ {\rm MeV}$, $f_{D^{*+}} - f_{D^{*0}}= (1.18 \pm 0.35) ~ {\rm MeV}$, $f_{B^0} - f_{B^+}=(1.01 \pm 0.10) ~ {\rm MeV}$, $f_{B^{*0}} - f_{B^{*+}}=(0.89 \pm 0.30) ~ {\rm MeV}$., Comment: 14 pages. We present an investigation of pion structure based on ETMC $N_f=2$ and $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass configurations at maximal twist. We compute the first moment of the quark momentum fraction of the pion, $\langle x \rangle$ and the electromagnetic form factor, $F_\pi(Q^2)$. For the latter, momentum is injected using twisted boundary conditions and the calculation is carried out directly at the physical pion mass. We find that our data are consistent with vector meson dominance and experimental data in the region of small momentum transfer. We present a study of the strong isospin-breaking (IB) effect, due in QCD to the difference between $u$- and $d$-quark masses, in the leptonic decay constants of charmed and beauty pseudoscalar and vector mesons using the method of QCD sum rules. We apply the sum-rule analysis to the decay constants of mesons containing one heavy quark and one light quark with the light mass in the range from the average $u/d$ quark mass to the strange-quark mass. We then analyse the dependence of the decay constants on the light quark mass and extract with good accuracy the IB ratios of decay constants at leading order in the mass difference $(m_d - m_u)$, obtaining: $(f_{D^+} - f_{D^0}) / f_{D} = 0.0047 (6)$, $(f_{D^{*+}} - f_{D^{*0}}) / f_{D^*} = 0.0068 (9)$, $(f_{B^0} - f_{B^+}) / f_{B} = 0.0047 (6)$, and $(f_{B^{*0}} - f_{B^{*+}}) / f_{B^*} = 0.0045 (5)$, which yield: $f_{D^+} - f_{D^0} = 0.97 \pm 0.13$ MeV, $f_{D^{*+}} - f_{D^{*0}} = 1.73 \pm 0.27$ MeV, $f_{B^0} - f_{B^+} = 0.90 \pm 0.13$ MeV, $f_{B^{*0}} - f_{B^{*+}} = 0.81 \pm 0.11$ MeV. In the case of the $D$-meson our finding is consistent with recent lattice QCD results, whereas it is much lower in the case of the $B$-meson showing a tension of $\approx 3$ standard deviations., Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure; this version matches the published one

We determine the strong couplings of three mesons that involve, at least, one $\eta_c$ or $J/\psi$ meson, within the framework of a constituent-quark model by means of relativistic dispersion formulations.
