Background/Objectives: Acute drug intoxications (ADIs) are a significant concern in pediatric healthcare, contributing to both accidental and intentional morbidity. This study aimed to analyze the demographic, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics of pediatric ADI cases to identify trends and inform preventive strategies. Methods: This retrospective study included 120 cases of pediatric ADI admitted to the Second Pediatric Clinic of Craiova County Emergency Clinical Hospital in 2022 and 2023. The inclusion criteria encompassed children aged 0–17 years with confirmed pharmaceutical intoxications. Cases involving mixed poisonings or non-pharmaceutical substances were excluded. Clinical severity was classified using the Poisoning Severity Score (PSS). Data on demographics, substances involved, clinical presentations, interventions, and outcomes were analyzed. Results: The majority of cases occurred in females (73.3%) and urban residents (77.5%). Accidental intoxications were prevalent in children aged 1–5 years (45%), while intentional ingestions were common in adolescents (47.5%). The most frequently implicated substances included antibiotics (46.7%), benzodiazepines (20.8%), and acetaminophen (15.8%). Severity was classified as mild (44.2%), moderate (26.6%), or severe (29.2%), while treatment primarily included supportive care, intravenous fluids (62.5%), and antidotes (35.8%). Severe cases required respiratory support in 29.2% of the instances. Hospitalization duration significantly decreased from 2022 (3.8 ± 1.9 days) to 2023 (2.3 ± 0.9 days) (p < 0.05), and no fatalities were recorded. Conclusions: Pediatric ADIs predominantly involve accidental ingestions in young children and intentional overdoses in adolescents. Targeted public health strategies, such as parental education, adolescent mental health support, and improved rural healthcare access, are essential to reduce incidence and severity. These findings underscore the need for focused prevention and optimized clinical management.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe, progressive and incurable X-linked genetic disorder. The article presents 18 children with DMD admitted between 2016-2022 in the Pediatric Clinic II, Emergency County Hospital in Craiova. The study looked at: the distribution according to residence, the average age when they walked, when they were diagnosed and when they walked in a wheelchair, heredocollateral and pathological antecedents, clinical manifestations, nutritional status, genetic tests and the evolution of these patients.

We present the case of a girl, aged 7 years, from rural area, admitted to our clinic with frontal and occipital headache and intermittent ocular pain, which started three weeks before admission; no pathologic antecedents. When admitted, weight=51 kg, height=124 cm (BMI=36.16), no fever but with modified general state, excessive subcutaneous cellular tissue, normal cardio-pulmonary and digestive state, without meningeal symptoms. BP= 90/62 mmHg, HR= 80 b/min.; eye fundus examination at admission: both eyes - papillae with a faded, prominent contour/lineament, multiple hemorrhages with a peripapillary location and several soft exudates (RE > LE), maculae with preserved reflex; diagnosis: papillary edema. Head computed tomography, normal cerebral and cervical spine NMR, and normal aspect in hypophysis NMR; hemogram, renal and hepatic investigations, ionogram, glycaemia – normal values; the TORCH test pointed out increased values for IgM Toxoplasma 1.24 UI/ml (N= 0-0.8) and for IgG Toxoplasma 36.31 UI/ml (n=0-10). We excluded: cerebral edema, malformations, hypophysis or optical chiasma tumors, Arnold-Chiari malformation. We decided for the ocular toxoplasmosis diagnosis and the patient was sent to the infectious disease physician for an antiparasitic treatment. Before starting it, the patient no longer complained of headaches and the eye fundus exam was normal, most likely because of seroconversion, with a decrease of IgM and an increase of IgG Toxoplasmosis, as shown by the TORCH test. The patient remained in our clinic’s evidence, returning for regular ophthalmologic examination, and with a good evolution.

Obezitatea este cea mai comună tulburare de nutriţie la copil în ţările dezvoltate ale lumii (15-30% din adolescenţii din SUA), frecvenţa sa crescând îngrijorător şi în România. Obezitatea primei copilării este frecventă, prognosticul obezităţii fi ind cu atât mai nefavorabil cu cât momentul debutului este mai precoce şi cu cât excesul ponderal este mai mare. Obezitatea la vârsta adolescenţei reprezintă o problemă la nivel mondial. Prevalenţa supraponderalităţii şi a obezităţii a fost înregistrată în special în ţările din America de Nord, Marea Britanie şi sud-vestul Europei.

In the specialized literature, there are few cases of inhaled salbutamol intoxication, being the most used bronchodilator in children’s asthma. We describe the situation of a 15-year-old teenager who inhaled salbutamol, in the context of an asthma attack, with each episode of coughing. At admission, the patient was conscious with a serious general state, afebrile, conscious, psychomotor agitation, tachycardic (heart rate=140/bpm), precordial pain, polypnea, dyspnea, with respiratory effort, hemodynamically stable, blood pressure=130/77 mmHg. Investigations showed hyperglycemia and hypokalemia. After the treatment, the evolution was favorable.

Hemophilia represents the most common inherited bleeding disorder linked to the X chromosome, which, if not properly treated, can lead to lifelong disabilities. This article presents the cases of 18 patients with hemophilia admitted between 2006-2022 to the Pediatric Oncohematology Department, Clinic II Pediatrics, Emergency County Hospital Craiova. Clinical and evolutionary aspects of the hospitalized patients are presented, including age at the time of diagnosis, heredo colateral history, symptoms at onset, clinical manifestations during the course of hospitalization, complications and prophylactic treatment.
