However, there have been little quantitative studies to compare Chinese scholars RA’s English abstract with that of the native speakers in the field of aeronautics. In particular, few studies have focused on analyzing them by means of combing the theory of genre analysis and thematic progression. This study analyzed the move structure and thematic progression pattern of 60 English abstracts selected from two aeronautics journals respectively (AIAA, CJA). Of the 60 English abstracts, 30 are written by Chinese scholars and 30 by native speakers. The results show that the frequency, order of moves, and the choice of thematic progression patterns in each move differ a lot in the two corpora. This study will not only enrich the empirical study of abstract analysis but also have some implications for academic paper writing, publishing, and teaching.

Herein, we develop a hierarchically mesoporous cerium metal-organic framework (Ce-HMMOF) nanozyme with enhanced ALP-mimicking activity for the naked-eye detection of phosphorylated biomarkers. The long-range ordered mesochannels (9.18 nm) throughout the Ce-HMMOF promote both the mass transfer and the accessibility of interior active sites, permitting the rapid and sensitive sensing of phosphorylated biomarkers through ALP-like biocatalysis. Enzymes are a class of natural catalysts with high efficiency, specificity, and selectivity unmatched by their synthetic counterparts and dictate a myriad of reactions that constitute various cascades in living cells. The development of suitable supports is significant for the immobilization of structurally flexible enzymes, enabling biomimetic transformation in the extracellular environment. Accordingly, porous organic frameworks, including metal organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs), have emerged as ideal supports for the immobilization of enzymes because of their structural features including ultrahigh surface area, tailorable porosity, and versatile framework compositions. Specially, organic framework-encased enzymes have shown significant enhancement in stability and reusability, and their tailorable pore opening provides a gatekeeper-like effect for guest sieving, which is beneficial for mimicking intracellular biocatalysis processes. This immobilization technique brings new insight into the development of next-generation enzyme materials and shows huge potential in healthcare applications, such as biomarker diagnosis, biostorage, and cancer and antibacterial therapies. In this review, we describe the state-of-the-art strategies for the structural immobilization of enzymes using the well-explored MOFs and burgeoning COFs and HOFs as scaffolds, with special emphasis on how these porous framework-confined technologies can provide a favorable microenvironment for mimicking natural biocatalysis. Subsequently, advanced characterization techniques for enzyme conformation, the effect of the confined microenvironment on the activity of enzymes, and the emerging healthcare applications will be surveyed.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is typically associated with poor prognosis due to its only partial response to chemotherapy and lack of clinically established targeted therapies coupled with an aggressive disease course. Aerobic glycolysis is a hallmark of reprogrammed metabolic activity in cancer cells, which can be repressed by small-interfering RNA (siRNA). However, the lack of effective carriers to deliver vulnerable siRNA restricts the clinical potentials of glycolysis-based gene therapy for TNBC. Herein, we develop a tumor-targeted, biomimetic manganese dioxide (MnO2)-shrouded metal-organic framework (MOF) based nanomedicine to deliver siRNA against pyruvate kinase muscle isozyme M2 (siPKM2), wherein PKM2 is a rate-limiting enzyme in glycolysis, to inhibit the reprogrammed glycolysis of TNBC. This MOF-based genetic nanomedicine shows excellent monodispersity and stability and protects siPKM2 against degradation by nucleases. The nanomedicine not only substantially blocks the glycolytic pathway but also improves intracellular hypoxia in TNBC cells, with a resultant O2-enhanced anticancer effect. In the mice orthotopic TNBC model, the nanomedicine shows a remarkable therapeutic effect. Meanwhile, the Mn2+ ions released from acid microenvironment-responsive MnO2 enable in vivo monitoring of the therapeutic process with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Our study shows great promise with this MRI-visible MOF-based nanomedicine for treating TNBC by inhibition of glycolysis via the RNA interference.

Nanozymes are of particular interest due to their enzyme-mimicking activity and high stability that are favorable in biomedical sensing and immunoassays. In this work, we report a highly specific N-doped nanozyme through pyrolysis of framework-confined bovine serum albumin (BSA). This strategy allows one to translate the low-cost and featureless BSA into a highly active enzyme mimic. The obtained carbon nanozyme (denoted as HBF-1-C800) displays 3- to 7-fold enhancement on peroxidase (POD) activity compared with the conventional carbon nanozymes and also shows ca. 5-fold activity enhancement compared to the reported N-doping graphene. Such excellent POD activity originates from high N-doping efficiency, protein-induced defective sites, and the intrinsic porous structure of HBF-1-C800, which provides abundantly accessible active sites and accelerates substrate diffusion simultaneously. Importantly, the HBF-1-C800 nanozyme has highly specific POD activity and also enables resistance to several harsh conditions that should denature natural enzymes. These features allow it with high accuracy, stability, and sensitivity for biosensing applications. Moreover, HBF-1-C800 has been designed as a promising platform for colorimetric biosensing of several biomarkers including H2O2, glutathione, and glucose, with wide linear ranges and low limits of detection that are satisfied with the disease diagnosis.

Summary Here, we describe a versatile protein-directed assembly strategy that enables the organization of different types of proteins and organic linkers into a highly crystalline hybrid framework through hydrogen-bond interaction. The whole assembly process is protein actuated but is independent of the protein-surface property. Advanced low-electron-dose cryoelectron microscopy techniques clearly witness the crystallographic structure of hybrid framework at a single-molecular level, and we demonstrate that the proteins are independently and tightly isolated in the crystalline frameworks, with a record-high protein content in the reported biohybrid framework materials. In addition, the hybrid framework has ultrahigh chemical stability, and its aperture structure and protein confinement tightness are controllable through modulating the organic linkers. When using enzymes as the building block, the obtained enzyme framework shows significantly improved stability compared with the free enzymes and displays notable advantages for biocatalysis compared with the burgeoning enzyme-MOF biohybrids in terms of active ingredient content, robustness, and catalytic efficiency.

The photoluminescent (PL) properties of lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) are intrinsically subtle to water molecules, which remains the major challenge that severely limits their applications as fluorescent probes in aqueous samples. Herein novel composite fluorescent probes were prepared by growing Ln-MOFs (Tb-MOF, Eu-MOF, and Tb/Eu-MOF) on carboxylated porous graphene oxide (PGO-COOH). The 3D thorny composites presented significantly longer fluorescent lifetimes and higher quantum yields than that of the bare Ln-MOFs and exhibited long-term PL stabilities in aqueous samples up to 15 days. The stable and improved PL properties demonstrated that the highly hybrid composite structures protected the MOF components from the adverse effects of water. Furthermore, the unexpected antenna effect of the PGO-COOH substrate on Ln3+ was supposed to be another reason for the improved PL properties. The composites present ultralow detection limits as low as 5.6 nM for 2,4-dinitrotoluene and 2.3 nM for dipicolinic acid as turn-off and ratiometric fluorescent probes, respectively, which was attributed to the incoporation of PGO-COOH that dramatically enahnced inner filter effects and effectively protected the energy transfer process in the MOF components from the interference of the surrounding water. This work presents an effective strategy for creating ultrasensitive and stable fluorescent probes based on Ln-MOFs for applications in aqueous samples.

Iron-dependent ferroptosis is a promising therapeutic strategy for cancers. However, the sustained overexpression of the antioxidant glutathione (GSH) in cancer cells substantially limits its therapeutic effect. Seeking efficient approaches that can perform high GSH depletion efficiency remains a significant task. Herein, we construct an all-in-one nanoplatform with functions of tumor targeting, monitoring and treatment for cancer ferroptosis therapy by constructing a homotypic cancer cell membrane-camouflaged iron-small interfering RNA nanohybrid (CM-Fe-siR). The SLC7A11-targeted siRNA in the nanohybrid inhibits the biosynthesis of GSH by cutting off the supply of intracellular cystine, an essential ingredient in GSH synthesis, which subsequently results in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that are generated from Fenton reaction induced by iron. Meanwhile, the intracellular deficiency of GSH inactivates glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4, a lipid repair enzyme), which further increases the accretion of lipid peroxides to enhance iron-induced ferroptosis. This biomimetic nanohybrid shows a remarkable anti-cancer effect by triggering sustainable and efficient ferroptosis via these multiple synergistic actions. Besides, the nanohybrids enable in vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) monitoring of therapy. The biomimetic CM-Fe-siR all-in-one nanoplatform may provide an efficient means of ferroptosis therapy for cancers. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Ferroptosis therapy based on the Fenton reaction of iron nanomaterials has aroused much attention in cancer treatment; however, the therapeutic efficacy is greatly inhibited by the sustained overexpression of the antioxidant GSH in cancer cells. It is of great importance to exploit more reagents or techniques performing high GSH depletion efficiency. Here, we facilely construct an all-in-one cancer cell membrane-camouflaged iron-siRNA nanoplatform, which possesses good biosafety, tumor-targeting, and noninvasive MRI monitoring capabilities. It effectively inhibits the GSH synthesis, and further simultaneously promotes the ROS accumulation and GPX4 inactivation, leading to enhanced cancer ferroptosis. This work highlights that the biomimetic iron-siRNA nanohybrids have a high potential in clinical application for imaging-guided cancer ferroptosis therapy.

Linear and mixed integer programming are very popular and important methods to make efficient scientific management decision. With large size of real application data, the use of linear-mixed integer programming is facing problems with more complexity; therefore, preprocessing techniques become very important. Preprocessing aims to check and delete redundant information from the problem formulation. It is a collection of techniques that reduce the size of the problem and try to strengthen the formulation. Fast and effective preprocessing techniques are very important and essential for solving linear or mixed integer programming instances. In this paper, we demonstrate a set of techniques to presolve linear and mixed integer programming problems. Experiment results showed that when preprocessing is well done, then it becomes easier for the solver; we implemented interior-point algorithm for computational experiment. However, preprocessing is not enough to reduce the size and total nonzero elements from the constraints matrix. Moreover, we also demonstrate the impact of minimum degree reordering on the speed and storage requirements of a matrix operation. All techniques mentioned above are presented in a multifunctional software to facilitate users.

Herein, iron-terpyridine complexes with the iron centers at different initial valence states were utilized as homogeneous catalysts for the degradation of phenol in water. The iron(iii)-terpyridine complex induced the formation of more high-valent iron-oxo centers and hydroxyl radicals than the iron(ii)-terpyridine complex, leading to a higher catalytic activity.

The highly efficient and specific catalysis of enzymes allows them to recognize a myriad of substrates, which enables biosensing. However, the fragility of natural enzymes severely restricts their practical applications. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with porous networks and attractive functions have been intelligently employed as supports to encase enzymes and protect them against harsh environments. More importantly, customizable construction and composition affords the intrinsic enzyme-like activity of some MOFs (known as nanozymes), which provides an alternative route for the construction of robust enzyme mimics. This review will introduce the concept of these biocatalytic MOFs, with special emphasis on how biocatalytic processes that operate in these materials can reverse the plight of native enzyme-based biosensing. In addition, the present challenges and future outlooks in this research field are briefly discussed.

Multienzyme biocatalytic cascade systems (MBCS) have attracted widespread research in the field of biosensing due to selective substrate transformations and signal amplification function. However, the poor stability of enzymes significantly restricts their effectiveness in practical applications. The spatial organization of MBCS within porous organic frameworks (POFs), such as metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, and hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks, is regarded as a promising strategy to overcome these challenges. This advanced biotechnology sets up a POFs microenvironment for enzymes immobilization, and thus make it possible to shield the enzyme from the external stimulus by POFs-guided structural confinement. Simultaneously, the tailorable porous structure of POFs shell allows for the selective transport of substrates into interior enzymes, thereby accelerating the sensing process. Herein, we present the concept of this POFs-confined MBCS, wherein enzymes were completely encapsulated into, rather than adsorption onto, the POFs. We highlight the new strategies for MBCS spatial organization through rational POFs support, and describe how this new bio-nanosystem that integrates framework and enzymes functions can be designed as a versatile biosensing platform. In addition, the challenges and outlooks are also discussed.

Efficient separation and preconcentration of trace harmful substances in food samples is a prerequisite for reliable analysis. Most of harmful substances with different properties coexist in the food samples, which is difficult to achieve simultaneously extraction through traditional adsorbents. In this work, a new adsorbent based on cyclodextrin- fluorinated covalent organic frameworks (CD-F-COF) was prepared. The mechanism of the CD-F-COF recognizing polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and bisphenols (BPs) were validated by molecular simulation. The CD-F-COF showed strong fluorophilic and host-guest interactions for polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and bisphenols (BPs), respectively. The CD-F-COF coated membranes were immobilized on the syringe filter and coupled with multi-channel syringe pump to achieve high-throughput sample pretreatment. After that, a sensitive analytical method for the simultaneous enrichment and determination of trace BPs and PFASs was established followed by HPLC-MS/MS. The results indicated that the limits of detection for the seven BPs and three PFASs were in the range of 0.006-0.050 ng/g and 0.001-0.008 ng/g. This method has great potential for application in sample preparation as it can fulfill fast and high-throughput for enrichment of trace multiple targets.

Crystallization of biomacromolecules-metal-organic frameworks (BMOFs) allows for orderly assemble of symbiotic hybrids with desirable biological and chemical functions in one voxel. The structure-activity relationship of this symbiotic crystal, however, is still blurred. Here, we directly identify the atomic-level structure of BMOFs, using the integrated differential phase contrast-scanning transmission electron microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy and x-ray absorption fine structure techniques. We discover an obvious difference in the nanoarchitecture of BMOFs under different crystallization pathways that was previously not seen. In addition, we find the nanoarchitecture significantly affects the bioactivity of the BMOFs. This work gives an important insight into the structure-activity relationship of BMOFs synthesized in different scenarios, and may act as a guide to engineer next-generation materials with excellent biological and chemical functions.

Over the past decade, Cancer detection using deep learning models has been a hot topic, especially in medical image classification. It is worth remarking that CNN models are more advanced at addressing diagnose diseases such as lung cancers because of the higher performance and ability of the CNN. However, few methods focus on lung pathological image classification and provide a detailed model configuration. In this paper, a hybrid classification model including inception_v3 network, hog and daisy feature extraction modules are constructed to classify lung cancer and normal tissue from lung pathological images. The work is carried out on Lung and Colon Cancer Histopathological Image dataset on Kaggle which includes three classes of lung images: normal, Adenocarcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma with 5000 images in each class. In the classification process, 80% of the data is chosen by KFold as training set and fed into the hybrid model, in which features extracted by neural network are combined with that extracted by hog and daisy method. The experimental results show that an accuracy of 99.60% can be achieved in the proposed model, which is a satisfying result higher than other similar classification experiments. This outcome of the experiment seems to show that hybrid deep learning models can verify an accurate method of cancer diagnosing.

Effects of scanning strategy during powder bed fusion electron beam additive manufacturing (PBF-EB AM) on microstructure, nano-mechanical properties, and creep behavior of Ti6Al4V alloys were compared. Results show that PBF-EB AM Ti6Al4V alloy with linear scanning without rotation strategy was composed of 96.9% α-Ti and 2.7% β-Ti, and has a nanoindentation range of 4.11–6.31 GPa with the strain rate ranging from 0.001 to 1 s−1, and possesses a strain-rate sensitivity exponent of 0.053 ± 0.014. While PBF-EB AM Ti6Al4V alloy with linear and 90° rotate scanning strategy was composed of 98.1% α-Ti and 1.9% β-Ti and has a nanoindentation range of 3.98–5.52 GPa with the strain rate ranging from 0.001 to 1 s−1, and possesses a strain-rate sensitivity exponent of 0.047 ± 0.009. The nanohardness increased with increasing strain rate, and creep displacement increased with the increasing maximum holding loads. The creep behavior was mainly dominated by dislocation motion during deformation induced by the indenter. The PBF-EB AM Ti6Al4V alloy with only the linear scanning strategy has a higher nanohardness and better creep resistance properties than the alloy with linear scanning and 90° rotation strategy. These results could contribute to understanding the creep behavior of Ti6Al4V alloy and are significant for PBF-EB AM of Ti6Al4V and other alloys.

The determination of endogenous substances is of great significance for obtaining important biotic information such as biological components, metabolic pathways and disease biomarkers in different living organisms (e.g. plants, insects, animals and humans). However, due to the complex matrix and the trace concentrations of target analytes, the sample preparation procedure is an essential step before the analytes of interest are introduced into a detection instrument. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME), an emerging sample preparation technique that integrates sampling, extraction, concentration, and sample introduction into one step, has gained wide acceptance in various research fields, including in the determination of endogenous compounds. In this review, recent developments and applications of SPME for the determination of endogenous substances over the past five years are summarized. Several aspects, including the design of SPME devices (sampling configuration and coating), applications (in vitro and in vivo sampling), and coupling with emerging instruments (comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC × GC), ambient mass spectrometry (AMS) and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)) are involved. Finally, the challenges and opportunities of SPME methods in endogenous substances analysis are also discussed.

Antibiotics are a group of antibacterial drugs used in the treatment and prevention of bacterial diseases in humans, veterinary animals, and farmed fish. Inappropriate and excessive use of antibiotic therapy leads to antibiotic fragment in the water bodies thus affect the aquatic organisms. In this study, an amino group modified high surface area metal-organic framework (MOF) MIL-101(Cr)-NH2 was used to prepare solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber to detect four different classes (total 6 ABs) of antibiotics for the first time from living tilapia fish (Oreochromis mossambicus) by coupling SPME with high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The extraction efficiencies of the custom-made fiber were superior as compared with the commercial C18, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), PDMS/divinylbenzene (DVB) and polyacrylate fibers. The custom-made fiber also exhibited excellent reproducibility with the low intra-fiber relative standard deviations (RSDs 1.5%–8.3%) and inter-fiber RSDs (7.3%–14.5%), which made it ideal for in vivo extraction in fish muscle. The as-prepared MIL-101(Cr)-NH2 fiber was then used to determine antibiotics in the dorsal-epaxial muscle of living fish. Comparing to the traditional solid-liquid extraction (SLE) method, the SPME method showed reduced invasiveness and higher sensitivity than the SLE method. In general, this study explored a convenient, cost-effective and highly sensitive SPME method based on amino modified MOF for in vivo antibiotic detection in fish muscle.

Significance Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are widely applied to the treatment of refractory organic pollutants in the environment. However, the continuous addition of oxidant limits their application for in situ remediation of river courses. Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is the most commonly used oxidant in AOPs. Photosynthesis of H 2 O 2 is a promising approach to provide oxidants for AOPs in an in situ and continuous way. However, limited by the rapid charge recombination, organic electron donors and O 2 atmosphere are usually required. Here, a Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst achieved the production of H 2 O 2 in pure water and open air. The regulation and potential mechanism of the Z-scheme and type II heterojunctions are revealed. This study demonstrates a feasible strategy for developing efficient Z-scheme photocatalysts.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have become a promising accommodation for enzyme immobilization and protection. However, the integration of multienzymes into MOFs may result in compromise of individual enzymatic activity. In this work, we report an iron mineralization strategy to facilely construct a mesoporous MOF, possessing excellent peroxidase-mimic bioactivity. Furthermore, the feasibility of in situ encapsulating natural enzymes within the developed mesoporous MOF nanozymes endows these natural/nanomimic enzyme hybrids with remarkably enhanced synergistic catalysis ability. Such activity enhancement is mainly due to (1) the fast flux rate of substances through the interconnected mesoporous channels and (2) the simultaneously increased loading amount of enzymes and iron within the MOFs caused by the iron mineralization process.
