Dimension and construction stone is one of the most significant non-metallic mineral raw material in Montenegro. There are numerous carbonate deposits in Montenegro (dimension and construction stone), either investigated or in exploitation, including the Bjelopavlići area which occupies the most significant place. Formation-mineragenic analysis of the carbonate sediments of the Bjelopavlići area revealed several formations of carbonate raw materials, including Jovanovići formation, as a new formation of dimension and construction stone in Montenegro. The paper presents the results of a multiyear formation-mineragenic analysis in the Bjelopavlići area, and the results of detailed geological exploration of the Jovanovići deposit of dimension and construction stone, calculated reserves, qualitative characteristics, possibility of their application and potential. The paper pays special attention to the examination of their sedimentological, biostratigraphic, and physico-mechanical characteristics. Results show that limestones of this formation type can be used as dimension stone. Also, the paper provides a brief overview of chemical, geochemical, and technological properties of these limestones with the possibility of their usage as a carbonate filler in various branches of industry.

The Lepenica River is the most important watercourse in the city of Kragujevac. Regardless of its importance, this river and its tributaries are extremely poorly investigated from a biological aspect. Only a few investigations were conducted from the end of the 20th century. After that, only physicochemical and microbiological parameters were monitored by scientists and Public Institutions. Our research was performed in 2021 at five localities at the Lepenica River and included an analysis of phytobenthos, macroinvertebrate, and fish communities, with the aim to assess ecological status/potential according to National Regulative. Our results indicate that the ecological status of this river was good (II class) only at one locality before the industrial and urbanized zone of the city of Kragujevac. From the entrance into the city of Kragujevac, the Lepenica River becomes highly polluted by multiple pollutants and belongs to the V class of ecological potential.

Introduction/Aim No known religion in the world has remained immune to the issue of magic, obsession, and exorcism. We present the first recorded case in our country, a religious exorcism ritual performed on a Muslim woman in her third month of pregnancy. The Emergency Medical Team (EMT) was dispatched to deal with sudden-onset abdominal pain which had occurred during the ritual of exorcism, to which the EMT was an unexpected witness. Case report The EMT responded to a call requesting medical assistance for an 18-year-old pregnant woman of Roma nationality and Muslim religion, who had experienced a short-term loss of consciousness accompanied by body tremors. Upon arriving at the scene, the EMT walked in on a religious ritual of exorcism, which was performed by a Muslim priest. After the ritual was completed, the patient was examined by the EMT doctor. The patient gave anamnestic data about sudden onset upper abdominal pain with an urge to vomit, which occurred about 15 minutes before the EMT was called. She associated her current condition with black magic and an evil force (a demon) that had entered her during a short walk. She stated that she had experienced this type of pain before but did not at that time ask for medical help, because the exorcism ritual had worked and resolved the situation. She denied having previous illnesses and medical treatments and stated that everything was fine during regular examinations by her gynaecologist. Upon examination, she was found to be afebrile, eupneic, euglycemic, and normotensive, with a normal heart rate, and naturally darker skin. Upon auscultation, her heart and lung sounds were found to be normal. When palpated, her abdomen was found to be soft and slightly painful in the stomach region. Her peristalsis was audible. The position of her uterus was normal inside the pelvis, the size of a larger orange or grapefruit. Other findings were normal. The patient was transported to a gynaecology and obstetrics hospital with the diagnosis of abdominal pain of unknown cause She was also referred to be examined by a psychiatrist. Conclusion In anticipation of new scientific views on this increasingly common topic, doctors find themselves in a position where they must find a balance between the patients' religious beliefs and realistic clinical diagnoses while caring for such patients, respecting moral, ethical, and legal norms.

This paper investigates the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic growth in a sample of 10 ex-socialist European and Asian countries. While the link between FDI and economic growth has been extensively investigated in empirical literature, this paper contributes to this literature by econometrically investigating the effects of FDI inflows in specific sectors using the panel data estimation techniques. In addition to confirming the positive impact of total FDI inflows on economic growth, using the WiiW (the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies) FDI database, which disentangles the FDI data across different industries, the paper finds significant effects of FDI inflows in manufacturing on growth, whereas FDI inflows in other sectors are only sporadically statistically significant. This finding serves as a basis for further investigation of the specific subsectors (NACE 2-letter classification) within manufacturing, and the empirical investigation finds that not all FDI inflows within manufacturing enhance economic growth.

Artificial propagation and stocking of brown trout is a standard practice in recreational fishery management. In recent decades, the importance of maintaining intraspecific diversity and protecting locally adapted lineages has been recognized for the species' long-term survival. The first step in selecting donors for stocking involves distinguishing native trout from non-native and introgressed individuals. The established method for discerning Atlantic hatchery strains from the wild populations involves genetic screening of individual diagnostic SNPs and microsatellite assignment tests. This study, using Serbia's Panjica hatchery as an example, illustrates the proper conduct of routine genetic screening for identifying suitable donors for supportive stocking. The broodstock and reference populations were screened using mtDNA control region, LDH nuclear gene, and 12 microsatellite loci to assess the origin, diversity, and inbreeding levels. The analysis revealed only moderate contamination with Atlantic trout and showed the regional origin of the Danubian genes – over 50% of the broodstock was composed of non-introgressed Danubian individuals tracing their origin to the Zapadna Morava River system. Additionally, the study highlighted a considerable discordance between LDH locus and microsatellites in identifying introgressed individuals, raising concerns about the sole reliance on LDH locus for the identification of Atlantic genetic origin in nuclear DNA.

The presence of microplastics (MPs) in the gastrointestinal tract, muscle, and whole-body samples of common bleak Alburnus alburnus L. from Gruža Reservoir (Central Serbia) was studied for the first time. Different protocols for MPs extraction were applied to determine the most efficient one. The study aimed to modify existing protocols to be cost-effective, efficient in digestion, and with no detrimental effect on potentially present MPs polymers. In this study, the digestion with 10% KOH during 48 h at 40°C was efficient for the gastrointestinal tract and muscle. Digestion with 10% KOH during 72 h at 40°C was the most efficient for whole-body samples. The usage of NaClO proved successful in digestion of the gastrointestinal tract overnight at room temperature. Fibers detected in the samples are assumed to be of plastic origin. The general goal was to establish a protocol for extracting MPs from fish tissue in wild populations to obtain results and determine the degree of pollution.

The meniscus midges Dixella aestivallis (Meigen, 1818) was recorded for the first time on the territory of Serbia. This species was found in the Karamejdan Lake on the territory of the protected nature reserve Pešter plateau, the highest Karst plateau of the Balkan Peninsula. The larva of D. aestivalis was detected in a locality with well-developed aquatic vegetation and high value of oxygen concentration. Dixella aestivalis is a eurytopic species, which prefers to live in different types of small stagnant waters. This study is a result of the ongoing monitoring of freshwater ecosystems. This finding is the starting point for further studies of these species in Serbia.

We have recently introduced a composite smeared finite element (CSFE) to model gradient-driven mass transport in biological tissue. The transport from capillary system is smeared in a way to transform 1D transport to a continuum, while the tissue is considered as a continuum. Coupling between the smeared pressure and concentration field is achieved through 1D connectivity elements assigned at each FE node. Here we extend our smeared model to include the lymphatic system. The lymphatic vessels are treated in a way analogous to the capillaries, by introducing the corresponding Darcy and diffusion tensors. Additional connectivity elements are added. In the numerical examples we demonstrate accuracy of the smeared model and the effects of the lymph on the pressure and concentration within the extracellular space, assuming that there is no transport to the cell space. In this paper the mineral reserves of brown coal deposits in the Banovici basin have been preliminary correlated to the international standard for reporting of minerals. It can act as a "key code and guidelines" for any country that wants to adopt its own standard reporting based on PERC and represents a new way of unique way of reporting and cadastre of mineral resources on the territory of Europe.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a series of life-saving procedures aimed at restoring and maintaining the functions of breathing and circulation in patients suffering from cardio-respiratory arrest. Old and new CPR guidelines assume that the patient is lying on the back, on a hard and stable surface. The prone position where the patient is lying on the stomach is often used in the operating room to enable an easier approach to the operative field and in intensive care units (ICU) to enable better oxygenation for patients in advanced stages of hypoxic respiratory insufficiency. During the COVID-19 pandemic, patients suffering from the infection are often treated in the prone position. Should cardiac arrest occur, it is necessary to initiate high-quality chest compressions and early defibrillation as soon as possible for the patient to have the best chance of survival. Current guidelines stipulate that CPR should be initiated immediately, even in the prone position, and kept up until conditions are met for the patient to be turned over onto the back. It is recommended to place hands on the patient's back at the level of the T7-T10 vertebrae and perform chest compressions with the usual strength and velocity (5-6 cm deep, 2 compressions per second). For defibrillation, self-adhesive disposable electrodes should be placed in an anterior-posterior or a bi-axillary position. Sternal counterpressure could increase the efficacy of chest compressions. Educating health workers to perform this CPR technique and using it in selected patients can increase survival.

Introduction/Objective: A lung abscess is a localized purulent inflammation of lung tissue with necrosis and colliquation. We are presenting a rare case of lung abscess formation as a result of the COVID-19 viral infection. Case report: An 81-year-old male patient with typical complaints (fever, malaise, fatigue) was examined at a designated medical centre for COVID patients. A positive PCR test and radiology findings confirmed a COVID-19 infection. Medication was prescribed according to protocol and he was sent home. During the night, 36 hours after the onset of the first symptoms, the patient developed breathing difficulties and a persistent, irritating dry cough. He was admitted to the Covid Hospital Karaburma, where he received treatment for 35 days. On the 22nd day after being released, the patient was examined at the Emergency Medical Centre, Clinical Centre of Serbia, complaining of dyspnoea, occasional hemoptysis and fatigue. The working diagnosis was pulmonary embolism. A multislice CT scan was ordered only to reveal a pulmonary abscess at the base of the left lung. Conclusion: A lung abscess is a rare, but possible complication of a COVID-19 infection. Therefore, patients should be regularly monitored for an extended period of time following hospitalization.

In this paper, we introduce an incremental formulation for large strains which is based on the nodal forces increments. It uses the linear strain increments at the current configuration as the fundamental strain measure, and consequently the stress increments which produce the nodal force increments. It does not assume any total strain and stress calculation according to total values of (large) displacements. It rather employs summation of internal finite element nodal forces during the incremental-iterative computational procedures. Solutions according to this new formulation are compared with a standard updated Lagrangian formulation, with the Green- Lagrangian strains evaluated using the total displacement derivatives with respect to the current reference configurations. The aim of this study was to investigate the release performance of an electrospun composite drug loaded nanofiber mat. Electrospun nanofiber mats are promising as drug carriers which offer site-specific delivery of drugs to a target in the human body and may be used for cancer therapy. The authors have formulated a simple radial 1D finite element, which is used to model diffusion within fibers releasing a drug to the surrounding medium discretized by continuum 3D finite elements. The numerical model includes degradation effects and hydrophobicity at the fibers/surroundings interface. For the purpose of experimental investigation, a poly(D,L-lacticco-glycolic acid) (PLGA) implant has been created at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade. The radial 1D element provides accurate predictions of the diffusion process and serves as an efficient tool for describing transport inside the polymer fiber and surrounding porous medium; which is illustrated through numerical examples. The objective of this study was to develop a successful freezing protocol for cryopreservation of Danube barbel sperm, and to identify the presence of different spermatozoa subpopulations. By testing different concentrations of different cryoprotectants, we determined that the use of 5% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) yielded the highest total motility of ~25%. Cooling rates influenced by frame height and cooling time in liquid nitrogen vapor showed that a frame height of 3 cm and cooling time of 2 min yielded the highest post-thaw motility. Supplementation of cryomedia with 0.1 M of sugars led to an increase in the total post-thaw motility by ~50%, while protein supplementation lowered post-thaw motility. Motile spermatozoa hierarchically clustered according to their motility parameters, displaying a four-subpopulation (SP1-SP4) structure. SP1 was defined by low values of velocity but high overall linearity; SP2 was comprised of fast non-linear spermatozoa, that had high velocity values but low linearity; SP3 was characterized by fast linear spermatozoa, and SP4 by slow non-linear spermatozoa. Protocols developed in this study will lead to the creation of new and enhanced conservation strategies for this species.
