Does e-participation enhance, or not, citizens’ political participation? Such a debate implies identifying whether there are contexts of social change and/or social reproduction, and, if change actually occurs, which direction it takes. When it comes to online political participation, it is necessary to highlight whether there is some continuity from the offline form of participation and if some new features of the online participation challenge democratic societies. Regardless of the optimism and pessimism in the field of (e-)participation, this article presents a reflective discussion on crucial issues impacting on political e-participation. More specifically, it discusses social inequalities in political participation as well as surveillance and threat posed to free political choices. In addition, it discusses how the public sphere and citizens’ (informed) political participation are challenged by the use algorithms,fake news, political propaganda and manipulation without public scrutiny. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

This paper intends to highlight the role played by new social media upon citizens’ political participation, their challenges and inequalities, like what has been thoroughly studied for traditional media. New media, also called social networks, like Twitter or Facebook, have been glorified as the universal public sphere, a promising new "café". This paper intends to discuss, in a more realistic and reflexive way, the use of some internet platforms, contradicting the excessive optimism that always arises whenever a new ICT (information and communication technology) emerges. We intend to reposition the social conditions that impact on digital political participations, namely the historical context, the social inequalities and the role of traditional media on political participation. Acknowledging the theoretical proposition stating that political participation (both in real or digital worlds) is stratified, this paper states that there is also a stratification of social media, regarding different levels of uses and goals, and that participation skills needed before social media ever existed are still necessary to participate via new media, an undervalued issue in new media studies. Similarly to other tools, Facebook and Twitter do not change the political situation by themselves. Although this transformation can be enabled by those tools, it all depends on the social, political and historical contexts. Finally, it is recognized that traditional media are also important to make political participation through social networks relevant in the real world.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-10-28 O estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de identificar os principais fármacos utilizados no tratamento de hipertensão no Centro de Saúde da cidade de Rincão e as principais interações medicamentosas decorrentes das associações, incluindo não só os medicamentos anti-hipertensivos, mas também, aqueles mais utilizados em conjunto. A população estudada compreendeu 725 pacientes hipertensos cadastrados no Centro Municipal de Saúde e que faziam acompanhamento médico trimestral. Foram coletados dados sobre a idade, sexo, presença de diabetes, tabagismo, sedentarismo e sobrepeso para traçar um perfil da população hipertensa. Todos tinham fichas de controle na farmácia da unidade, onde retiravam os medicamentos mensalmente. O paciente, na sua maioria, constituiu de mulheres (62%) com idade entre 50 a 70 anos (57%); 21%, eram tabagistas; 43% sedentários. Quanto às prescrições, 33% eram constituídas de monoterapia e 66% de politerapia. Quanto à utilização de medicamentos de outras classes terapêuticas, além dos antihipertensivos, 50% dos pacientes faziam uso e dentre estes, 34% utilizam três ou mais medicamentos anti-hipertensivos, enquanto 66% utilizavam apenas, dois medicamentos anti-hipertensivos e 47% das prescrições apresentaram interações medicamentosas. O captopril foi o medicamento que mais apresentou interações com outros medicamentos representando 54% das interações medicamentosas, a hidroclorotiazida apresentou 27%, seguido da furosemida, com 14%, o propranolol, 4% e a nifedipina, 1%. Concluiuse que o consumo de medicamentos pelos pacientes é elevado e consequentemente apresentaram também um elevado número de interações medicamentosas. The purpose of this study was to identify the drugs most often prescribed for hypertension at the Municipal Health Care Center of the town of Rincäo, State of São Paulo, Brazil, and the principal interactions arising from their association with other drugs, both anti-hypertensives and those in other classes. The study included 725 hypertensive patients registered at this health care center who were regularly seen by a physician every three months. Data were collected on age, sex, occurrence of diabetes, smoking, sedentary lifestyle and overweight, to obtain a profile of the hypertensive population of the area. Control records of all patients were available at the pharmacy in the health care center, where patients obtained their drugs once a month. Of the 725 patients, 38% were male and 62% female. Most (57%) were between 50 and 70 years of age, 21% used tobacco and 43% led a sedentary lifestyle. Single-drug therapy accounted for 33% of the prescriptions, multidrug therapy for 66%. In addition to anti-hypertensives, 50% of the patients took drugs of other therapeutic classes. Of those receiving multidrug therapy, 34% used three or more anti-hypertensives and 66% used only two of these drugs. Drug interactions were detected in as many as 47% of the prescriptions. Captopril was the drug that showed most interactions with others (54%), followed by hydrochlorothiazide (27%), furosemide (14%), propanolol (4%), and nifedipine (1%). The analysis revealed that drug consumption by the patients investigated is high, with a concomitantly high number of episodes of drug interaction. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-10-28 A farmacovigilância é realizada através de notificações voluntárias de suspeitas de reações adversas, de erros de medicações e de desvios de qualidade, por usuários e profissionais da saúde, através do preenchimento de formulários enviados a um banco de informações. Para ampliar as fontes de notificações, a Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (ANVISA), em parceria com o Conselho Regional de Farmácia (CRF) e Centro de Vigilância Sanitária (CVS) de cada Estado, introduziu o projeto das “Farmácias Notificadoras”. O presente estudo teve o objetivo de determinar os fatores envolvidos à adesão das drogarias e farmácias privadas de Tatuí/SP, em 2007, no projeto farmácias notificadoras. Realizou-se um estudo observacional descritivo, do tipo inquérito de Conhecimento, Atitude e Prática (CAP) aplicado aos 21 farmacêuticos voluntários da pesquisa. Os resultados revelaram que os profissionais possuem conhecimento de farmacovigilância (95,24%) e atitude (95,24%), entretanto, a prática é limitada (6,0%). Baseado nas informações concluiu-se que a baixa adesão ao projeto ocorre por falta de tempo, desinteresse, falta de informação à sociedade sobre os benefícios dessa atividade e falta de apoio das entidades de classe. Espera-se mudar essa realidade com a atual introdução do perfil profissional generalista, a união das entidades de classe e a promoção da conscientização social sobre farmacovigilância. Pharmacovigilance is accomplished by voluntary notification of suspected adverse reactions, medication errors, and deviations from quality, by users and health professionals, through the filling in of forms that are sent to a data bank. To broaden the sources of notifications, the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), in partnership with the Regional Pharmacy Council (CRF) and Center for Health Surveillance (CVS) of each state, introduced the scheme of Notifying Pharmacies. The present study was aimed at determining the factors influencing the decision of drugstores and private pharmacies in Tatuí/SP in 2007, to join this project A descriptive, observational survey of knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) was applied to volunteer pharmacists in the town. The results showed that the professionals are awave of pharmacovigilance, (95.24%) and have attitude (95.24%). However, practice is limited (6.0%). Based on this information we concluded that the low support of the project was due to lack of time, interest and no information about the benefits to society of such activity and a lack of support from the pharmacists' organizations. This situation is expected to change with the current introduction of a professional profile, the fusion of professional bodies and the promotion of social awareness on pharmacovigilance. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2007-12-01 Infecção Hospitalar é um grande problema de saúde pública, sendo responsável pelo aumento da morbimortalidade dos pacientes, bem como do período de internação e custos assistenciais. Dentre as infecções hospitalares, a infecção do trato urinário (ITU) é a mais comum, sendo a presença de cateter urinário o principal fator de risco. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as ITUs em pacientes internados num Hospital Universitário, no período de outubro a dezembro de 2003. Das 271 amostras de urina analisadas, 51 foram positivas, sendo 27 de pacientes com infecção comunitária do trato urinário e 24 de origem hospitalar. As ITUs comunitárias foram mais comuns em pacientes do sexo feminino (63%), com idade entre 0 e 15 anos (37%), sendo Escherichia coli o agente mais freqüente (74,1%). Os episódios de ITU de origem hospitalar ocorreram, na sua maioria, em pacientes que faziam uso de sonda vesical de demora, do sexo masculino (68%) e com idade acima de 50 anos (68%), e tiveram como agentes etiológicos mais freqüentes Escherichia coli (29,1%) e Klebsiella spp. (29,1%). Quanto à sensibilidade/resistência aos antimicrobianos, E. coli e Klebsiella pneumoniae apresentaram sensibilidade elevada (62,5%) ao sulfametoxazol/trimetoprim e a ampicilina, sugerindo a não utilização desses medicamentos nessa instituição. Infection in hospitals is a serious problem for the Public Health System. It is responsible for the increasing number of hospital deaths, as well as the longer time patients may have to stay in hospital, raising the costs of confinement more and more. The most common hospital infection is urinary tract infections (UTI), the use of the urinary catheter being the main risk factor. The aim of this study was to evaluate the profile of UTI among hospitalized patients in a University Hospital in Brazil, from October to December 2003. Out of 271 samples of urine checked, 51 were positive, 27 of these from patients having community-acquired UTI and 24 whose infection originated in the hospital. The community-acquired UTIs were more frequent in female patients (63%). The highest incidence of infection was caused by Escherichia coli (74%), especially in patients aged from 0 to 15 (37%). The episodes of hospital-acquired infection happened, in the main, in male patients aged above 50 (68%) who were using a lasting vesical catheter; in this group of patients the infection was frequently caused by E. coli (29.1%) and Klebsiella spp. (29.1%). E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae exhibited strong resistance (62.5%) to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, as well as to ampicillin, showing that these drugs should not be used to cure UTIs in this institution. Los autores realizaron un estudio ultraestructural de la gingiva de ratas en estro permanente, ooforectomizadas y tratadas con estrógenos, con el objetivo de evaluar si esta estructura es un órgano blanco de las hormonas sexuales. Los resultados mostraron que la lámina propia de la gingiva de los animales en estro permanente y, en los ooforectomizados tratados con estrógenos, era rica en células y en fibras colágenas. En estos dos grupos se observaron grandes concentraciones de eosinófilos y fibroblastos activos, como también, de macrófagos y linfocitos, observándose además en el estroma, áreas electrotranslúcidas. En el grupo ooforectomizado se observó gran concentración de células y, el estroma denso contenía innumerables fibras colágenas y substancia intercelular amorfa. En este grupo, los fibroblastos mostraron señales de atrofia y algunos macrófagos y leucocitos, señales degenerativas. El estroma gingival del grupo tratado con dexametasona, se mostró atrofiado, con gran número de células y fibras colágenas, como de fibroblastos y fibrocitos. Fue observado un reducido número de macrófagos y de leucocitos. Se concluyó que la gingiva debe ser considerada como un órgano blanco de los estrógenos y que la ooforectomía no altera esa característica
