Abstract

O presente artigo tem por objeto o tratamento dado por Erich Fromm e Max Horkheimer ao fenômeno da integração social do proletariado. Além dos textos de ambos os autores, o artigo recorre às pesquisas empíricas conduzi-das no início da década de 1930, no âmbito do Instituto de Pesquisa Social de Frankfurt. Mais especificamente, é analisada a pesquisa sobre a “estrutura de caráter” de trabalhadores alemães, coordenada por Erich Fromm, sendo também considerados os principais resultados das pesquisas que tinham por objeto as mudanças na sexualidade e na estrutura de autoridade da família europeia da época. Mostra-se como Horkheimer recorreu a conceitos centrais do pensamento de Marx ao examinar os temas dessas pesquisas, resultando em uma perspectiva capaz de apreender as mudanças sociais em curso

Abstract

Context: Task interdependence is a work design factor that expresses the mutual dependency between tasks that compose a whole work. In software development, task interdependencies are created by the technical dependencies between the components of the software system and by how the development tasks are allocated to individuals in a teamwork context. Despite its importance for individual and team effectiveness, we still do not have studies about how software engineers perceive task interdependence in practice. Goal: To understand the perceptions of software engineers about the interdependence in their work and how these perceptions interact with other human and technical factors in the development process. Method: We performed an exploratory qualitative case study of a single software development team in a Brazilian software company that developed solutions for the financial market. We interviewed all 10 team members and used standard coding techniques from qualitative research to code, categorize, and synthesize data. Results: Individuals are consistent in their understanding of task interdependence and how it happens in practice. However, there are asymmetries between the individual perceptions in an interdependence relationship, which seem to exacerbate expressed feelings of anxiety and dissatisfaction. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the perception of task interdependence in software development is often not symmetrical with potential negative effects on emotional states that are related to motivation and satisfaction in the workplace., Comment: 11 pages

Abstract

Science, technology and innovation have become a driving force for transformations of all kinds at local and global scales. However, globally unequally distributed resources —such as money, people, infrastructure, among others— have generated disproportionate developments. This is not only a problem of science itself, but also of the way in which societies have developed, the relationships between them, and the role that science and technology have played in the dynamics and development of societies. Today, in addition to the problems of asymmetries, inequality, exclusion and marginalization, there are pandemics, forced migrations, extractivism and the visible effects of climate change as a generator of local and global transformations and disasters, for which science and technology play a central role in their understanding, mitigation, prevention and solution. Thus, capacity strengthening strategies with knowledge of the local and global distribution of resources for science, technology and innovation, are essential for action in the contemporary world. In this context, a transformation in science seems to be taking place. The formation of networks, the demand for impact, research through and in virtual and simulated worlds, together with the growing movement for access and open and citizen science, are accompanied by permanent institutional adjustments and redesigns, policy changes, new priorities, instruments and a growing tendency to align, for example, to the Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, efforts to know, understand and manage science, technology and innovation, through metrics and forms of scientific evaluation, continue to focus on traditional forms and on citation impact metrics which respond to forms of evaluation, financing and spending in transnational publication systems. Local, national and global movements for the opening up of science and its evaluation are increasingly active, and permeate science, technology and innovation policies. We propose that, in these efforts, we should incorporate a set of principles that allow us to construct metrics and forms of evaluation that consider the characteristics, requirements and socio-territorial demands that should inspire and contextualize our capacity strengthening efforts and initiatives.

35. Self-Similar Solutions to the Curvature Flow and its Inverse on the 2-dimensional Light Cone

Abstract

We show that the solutions to the curvature flow (CF) for curves on the 2-dimensional light cone are in correspondence with the solutions to the inverse curvature flow (ICF). We prove that the ellipses and the hyperboles are the only curves that evolve under homotheties. The ellipses are the only closed ones and they are ancient solutions. We show that a spacelike curve on the cone is a self-similar solution to the CF (resp. (ICF)) if, only if, its curvature (resp. inverse of its curvature) differs by a constant $c$ from being the inner product between its tangent vector field and a fixed vector $v$ of the 3-dimensional Minkowski space. The curve is a soliton solution when $c=0$. We prove that, for each vector $v$ there exists a 2-parameter family of self-similar solutions to the CF and to the ICF, on the light cone. Moreover, at each end of such a curve, the curvature is either unbounded or it tends to $0$ or to the constant $c$.
