This study aimed to investigate the pacing strategies used by men and women in the Berlin Marathon between 2004 and 2019. The records of the first 20 male and female athletes were analysed. The sample was divided into seven groups: world record, champions group (men and woman), 2nd to 5th place group (men and woman) and 6th to 20th place group (men and woman). The time taken in the eight partials of 5 km and the partial of 2,195 km were converted into seconds to calculate the speed in meters per second. To analyse the pacing strategy, the speed in each partial was normalised by the average speed in the test. One-way ANOVA was used to verify possible differences between the groups in each partial. For the analysis of the pacing strategy of each group, the intra-group repeated measures ANOVA was used. World record men used a constant pacing strategy (p= 0.98). The champions groups, male and female, also used a constant pacing strategy (p> 0.108). The 2nd to 5th placed groups of both sexes presented a positive pacing strategy (men p= 0.001–0.007; women p= 0.00–0.04). Likewise, the athletes from the 6th to 20th place male and female groups also presented a positive pacing strategy (men p< 0.001; women p< 0.001). No differences were found in the pacing strategy between winning men and women. We conclude that the constant pacing strategy is the reason that made possible the best success in the Berlin Marathon; both the record holders and the champions used it., O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar as estratégias de pacing utilizadas por homens e mulheres na Maratona de Berlim entre os anos de 2004 e 2019. Foram analisados os registros dos 20 primeiros atletas no masculino e feminino. A amostra foi dividida em sete grupos: recorde mundial, grupo dos campeões (masculino e feminino), grupo do 2º ao 5º colocado (masculino e feminino) e grupo do 6º ao 20º colocado (masculino e feminino). O tempo realizado nas oito parciais de 5 km e na parcial de 2.195 km foram convertidos em segundos para cálculo de velocidade em metros por segundos. Para análise da estratégia de pacing a velocidade em cada parcial foi normalizada pela velocidade média na prova. Utilizou-se ANOVA de um fator para verificar possíveis diferenças entre os grupos em cada parcial, e para a análise da estratégia de pacing de cada grupo, foi utilizada a ANOVA de medidas repetidas intra-grupo. Os homens recordistas mundiais utilizaram estratégia de pacing constante (p= 0.98). Os grupos de campeões, masculino e feminino, também utilizaram estratégia de pacing constante (p> 0.108). Os grupos do 2º ao 5º colocados, de ambos os sexos, apresentaram estratégia de pacing positiva (homens p= 0.001–0.007; mulheres p = 0.001–0.04). Do mesmo modo, os atletas dos grupos do 6º à 20º colocados masculino e feminino também apresentaram estratégia de pacing positiva (homens p< 0.001; mulheres p< 0.001). Não foram encontradas diferenças na estratégia de pacing entre homens e mulheres vencedores. Conclui-se que a estratégia de pacing constante é aquela que possibilitou melhor êxito na Maratona de Berlim, tanto os recordistas quanto os campeões a utilizaram.

O presente estudo comparou o equilíbrio competitivo (EC) do futebol brasileiro com os da Alemanha, Espanha, França, Inglaterra, Itália e Portugal), na primeira divisão, entre o período de 2003/2004 a 2016/2017. Além disso, verificou-se a linha de tendência do período e o efeito global. O EC foi medido através da concentração de pontos pelos quatro primeiros colocados na tabela final de classificação (C4 Index of Competitive Balance; C4ICB). Valores descritivos mostraram competições não totalmente equilibradas (i.e., C4ICB>100). C4ICB do campeonato brasileiro (Md=133) foi menor em comparação aos da Alemanha, Espanha, Itália, Inglaterra e Portugal (Md=145, 148, 148, 152 e 155, respectivamente; p0.05). The objective of the present study was to evaluate home advantage in Brazilian soccer considering the interference of and interaction between game location and team quality in the percentage of wins and draws. Data from the Brazilian first-division soccer championship comprising a period of 10 years (1998-2007) were analyzed, for a total of 3,836 games. For club qualification the first deviation of the curve of Gauss was used in relation to the punctuation obtained. Clubs presenting a punctuation higher than this deviation were classified as high quality (HQ), clubs with an intermediate punctuation as average quality (AQ), and clubs with a lower puncutation as low quality (LQ). There was an effect of game location (p< 0.001; η2=0.88), with clubs playing at home winninng on average 25% more games. This effect was less pronounced for LQ teams compared to AQ and HQ teams (p< 0.001), a find-ing indicating a significant effect of team quality (η2=0.89). A significant, although of medium strength, interaction was observed between team quality and game location for the percentage of wins at home (p=0.023; η2=0.13). There was also a significant relationship between game location and team quality for draws (p< 0.001; η2=0.39), with no important influence of the individual factors. HQ teams presented fewer draws at home than away, while the opposite was observed for LQ clubs (p< 0.05). No difference between draws at home and away was observed for AQ teams. In conclusion, game location is an advantageous factor in Brazilian first-division soccer championship games, with this factor being more pronounced in the case of high quality teams. O propósito do presente estudo foi verificar a vantagem em casa, considerando a interferência e interação entre local do jogo e qualidade dos times nos aproveitamentos percentuais de vitórias e empates no futebol brasileiro. Dados de 10 anos (1998-2007) do Campeonato Brasileiro da primeira divisão foram considerados, totalizando 3.836 partidas. Para qualificação dos clubes, foi utilizado o primeiro desvio da Curva de Gauss em relação à pontuação obtida, sendo superior a este desvio será classificada como de Alta Qualidade (AQ), entre eles como Média Qualidade (MQ) e inferior como Baixa Qualidade (BQ). Foi observado que houve efeito do local do jogo (p< 0,001; η2=0,88); os clubes venceram, em média, 25% a mais jogando em casa do que fora. Esse efeito foi menos pronunciado para os times BQ, em relação aos MQ e AQ (p< 0,001), com significante efeito do fator qualidade também (η2=0,89). Foi notada interação significante, porém de média força, entre os fatores qualidade vs local do jogo, no aproveitamento de vitórias em casa (p=0,023; η2=0,13). Houve significante relação entre o local do jogo vs qualidade dos clubes para empates (p< 0,001; η2=0,39), sem nenhuma influência importante desses fatores isoladamente. Os times AQ empatam menos em casa do que fora, enquanto o inverso aconteceu para os clubes BQ (p< 0,05). Não houve diferença de empates em casa e fora para os times MQ. Conclui-se que o fator local do jogo pode ser atributo de vantagem nos confrontos do Campeonato Brasileiro de futebol da primeira divisão, sendo mais pronunciada quando a qualidade do clube é maior.

The home advantage in soccer: comparision between Libertadores of American Cup and UEFA Champions LeagueThe objective of this study was to compare the home advantage (HA) in Libertadores of American Cup (LAC) and UEFA Champions League (UCL). We analyzed all matches of group phase (n = 1536) from 2004 to 2011 seasons. To quantify the HA, we use the methodology of recovery percentage points, proposed by POLLARD3, considered HA, values greater than 50%. There were a significant difference (p = 0.010) between LAC (67.8 ± 4%) and UCL (60.5 ± 5%). The magnitude of the mean (mean difference = 0.73, 95% CI: 0.020 to 0.127) was large (h2 = 0.35). We concluded that the HA was higher in LAC than in UCL in this seasons and the factors such as altitude, distance traveled fans characteristics and referee behavior it will be able to help to explain this phenomenon in future studies. O objetivo desse estudo foi comparar a vantagem em casa (VC) entre Copa Libertadores da América (CLA) e UEFA Champions League (UCL). Foram analisadas todas as partidas da fase de grupos (n = 1536) das temporadas 2004 a 2011. Para quantificar a VC, foi utilizada a metodologia de aproveitamento percentual de pontos proposta por POLLARD3, sendo considerado VC valores maiores que 50%. Houve diferença significativa (p = 0,010) para a VC na CLA (67,8 ± 4%) em relação a UCL (60,5 ± 5%). A magnitude das diferenças das médias (diferença média = 0,73; IC 95%: 0,020 a 0,127) foi grande (h2 = 0,35). Conclui-se que a VC foi maior na CLA do que na UCL nas temporadas analisadas e que fatores como altitude, distância de viagem, característica das torcidas e comportamento arbitral poderá ajudar a explicar esse fenômeno em futuros estudos.

O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a validade preditiva das equações de referência para predição da força de preensão manual (FPM) em homens brasileiros de meia idade e idosos. Foram avaliados 60 homens com idade de 58,7±8,6 anos (50-84 anos), estatura 168,7±8,0 cm, massa corporal 67,9±13,0 kg e índice de massa corporal 23,7±4,0 kg/m², utilizando equipamento 'padrão-ouro' na avaliação da FPM e seguindo todas as recomendações metodológicas preconizadas pela American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT). Os resultados do diagrama de Bland-Altman para mão dominante (MD) apresentam um erro médio (viés) de -8,4% (IC95% -51,6-34,7). Já o diagrama de Bland-Altman para mão não dominante (MND) apresenta um erro médio (viés) de 1,4% (IC95% -47,1-49,8). O cálculo de Cronbach's alpha para a MD foi de 0,69 e 0,59 para MND. O coeficiente de correlação intraclasse para MD foi 0,52 (IC95% 31-68) e de 0,42 (IC95% 20-60) para a MND. Concluímos que as equações para predição analisadas neste estudo, para uma população de homens brasileiros de meia idade e idosos, apresentou baixa validade preditiva, o que pode gerar erros de interpretação dos resultados. The objective of this study was to verify the predictive validity of reference equations for hand grip strength (HGS) in middle-aged and elderly Brazilian men. We evaluated 60 men with age of 58.7±8.6 years, height 168.7±8.0 cm, body mass 67.9±13.0 kg, and body mass index 23.7±4.0 kg/m², utilizing the gold standard equipment for evaluation of HGS and following all methodological recommendations of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASTH). The results of the Bland-Altman diagram for the dominant hand (DH) had a mean error (bias) of -8.4% (95%CI -51.6-34.7). The Bland-Altman diagram for the non-dominant hand (NDH) had a mean error (bias) of 1.4% (95%CI -47.1-49.8). The calculation of Cronbach's alpha was 0.69 for the DH and 0.59 for the NDH. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.52 (95%CI 31-68) for the DH and 0.42 (95%CI 20-60) for the NDH. We therefore conclude that the reference equations for HGS evaluated in this study has low predictive validity for a population of Brazilian men middle-aged and elderly, and may lead to a misinterpretation of the results.

The aims of the present study were: i) to evaluate the construct validity of Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 2 (Yo-Yo IR2) and of the Margaria Test (MT) with performance in high intensity exercise during official match play in soccer players; ii) to verify the reliability (test-retest) of the two tests; iii) to compare the values of the maximal individual heart rate (MHR) obtained in those protocols and match play Eighteen soccer players (mean ± SD; age 14 ± 0.8 years, height 172 ± 9 cm, weight 64.3 ± 8.5 kg) belonging to the same team were assessed in test-retest referred protocols and in the percentage of time spent above 85% of MHR (PRT >85%MHR) in two official match play of the U-15 Championship. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior The first article sought to establish, through a bibliographical revision, the use of the heart rate (HR) as measure parameter of exercise intensity (EI) in soccer. It was evidenced that HR presents linear VO2 relation in the intermittent actions of the soccer and its relation in the form of percentage of the maximum heart rate (MHR) or percentage of HR reserve (HRres) has been recommended for be simple and for allow comparisons inter individual, intra individual and of different types of activities. The mean EI during professional matches is around 70 and 80% V02MAX or 80 and 90% MHR. Such values are also observed in youth, master and recreational soccer players. The prevalent EI in a soccer match is around 70 and 90% of the MHR in approximately 65% of the match duration. Midfield players present the higher mean EI followed by the strikers and full-backs. Exercise intensity is reduced in the second half, especially in master and recreational players. Traditional technical training using balls are less intense compared with tactic training and small-sided games or simulated matches. We recommend that studies on EI with greater soccer player number and that distinguish the player position on the field are carried out. The second article aimed to determine the EI during competitive games in young Brazilian soccer players (U-15), as well as comparing players´ position. Heart rate was monitored in twenty-one soccer players (mean age 14 ± 0.5 years; body weight 61.5 ± 6.5 kg; height 172 ± 7 cm) during three complete soccer matches. EI during the first (86.1 ± 3.4%MHR) was larger than second half (83.8 ± 4.1%MHR; P96% MHR [6.2 ± 5.6 vs. 9.8 ± 7.4%]) (P0.05). The external defenders and midfielders demonstrated higher (P85%MHR) in two official games of the U-15 Championship. A high correlation was found among the performance in Yo-Yo IR2 and PTS>85%MHR (rs=0,71; p85%MHR (rs=0,44; p=0,06). Yo-Yo IR2 shown more variable and less reproductively (CV= 11%; CCI [95% IC] =0,38) than MT (CV= 1%; CCI [95% IC]=0,93). As exigências comportamentais e as particularidades das atividades desenvolvidas pelos funcionários de alguns setores caracterizados como escritórios da Universidade Federal de Viçosa podem estar potencializando uma série de fatores negativos para a saúde destes. A interface com o computador e a característica da tarefa levam a uma forte exigência física e também cognitiva, que aliadas a outros fatores poderá propiciar o surgimento e/ou agravamento de “lesões por esforço repetitivo” e/ou “distúrbios osteomusculares relacionados ao trabalho” (L.E.R./D.O.R.T). Este estudo buscou diagnosticar a situação destes trabalhadores com relação a Fatores Humanos Gerais (FHG) e o nível de Aptidão Física Relacionada à Saúde (AFRS) nos componentes: cardiorrespiratório; flexibilidade; força e percentual de gordura corporal. A amostra foi composta por 46 profissionais. Nos FHG, em ambos os sexos, as variáveis de maior significância foram: “percepção postural”; “sensação de dores localizadas e as de conseqüência de algum movimento ou tarefa” na região das costas, ombros e braços. Referindo-se a AFRS, ambos os sexos apresentaram níveis “insatisfatórios” para a saúde na “flexibilidade tronco-quadril” e uma grande parcela de homens classificou-se em “abaixo da média” no teste de “flexão/extensão de cotovelos”, fatores predisponentes para L.E.R./D.O.R.T. Grande parcela deles ainda apresentou o percentual de gordura corporal como “elevada” (25,0%) ou mesmo “obeso” (14,2%). Em termos gerais da AFRS devem ser feitas intervenções, tais como programas de atividade física e/ou esportivas para esta classe de funcionários nesta instituição de ensino superior. Sugere-se ações nas atividades de lazer, onde foi constatado que 39,2% dos homens e 44,4% das mulheres tem na televisão sua principal atividade de lazer. The behavioral demands and the particularities of the activities performed by the employees from offices at the Federal University of Viçosa can offer a series of negative factors for health. The interface with the computer and task characteristics give a great body and also cognitive demands, that allied to several factors can represent the appearance or worsening repetitive lesions and/or work related problems in the skeletal muscle (Cumulative Trauma Disorders) . This study aimed to diagnose the workers’ situation in relation to General Human Factors (GHF) and level of Health-Related Fitness (HRF)components: cardiorrespiratory; flexibility; strength and percent of body fat. The sample was composed by 46 workers. For both sexes, the GHF variables of higher significance were: “posture perception”; “sensation of local pains and those from some movement or task” in the back, shoulders and arms areas. Referring to HRF, both sexes presented unsatisfactory levels for trunk-hip flexibility “ and great part of men were classified as” below average “ in the push-up test” which are risk factors for CTD. Significant portion of them presented high percent of body fat (25,0%) or were “obese” (14,2%). In general terms of HFR, there should be interventions, such as physical activity and/or sports programs for this group of employees at this institution. It is suggested that actions should also be taken in the leisure activity offering, once it was shown that 39,2% of the men and 44,4% of the women have in TV their main leisure activity.

Introdução: Detectar um talento esportivo tem sido um trabalho árduo para os treinadores das diversas modalidades esportivas. Esse tem sido reconhecido em pessoas que apresentam um elevado potencial, uma capacidade especial ou, até mesmo, uma aptidão para o desempenho esportivo. Além disso, outras conceituações podem ser adotadas, com o ensejo de melhor se compreender esse fenômeno. Entretanto, pouco se sabe sobre o processo de detecção de talento, especificamente no voleibol, a partir da abordagem da Gestão do Conhecimento. Objetivo: Comparar os critérios adotados pelos treinadores de diferentes grupos (Grupo A – Treinadores de elite; Grupo B – Treinadores de categorias de base) no processo de detecção de talento, nas categorias de base do voleibol, a partir da Gestão do Conhecimento. Metodologia: Estudo do tipo observacional, corte transversal, comparativo por natureza. Fizeram parte deste estudo 39 treinadores de voleibol, com idades entre 27 e 65 anos (média = 48,3 ± 8,4 anos), sendo todos do sexo masculino, divididos em dois grupos. O instrumento adotado foi um questionário estruturado contendo 13 questões de autoclique. Os dados foram apresentados como média ± desvio-padrão, mediana, intervalo interquartil (IIQ, percentis 25 e 75) e medidas de frequência. Comparações das características demográficas entre os grupos de treinadores foram feitas pelo teste U de Mann-Whitney. Todas as análises foram realizadas por linguagem de programação estatística R (versão 4.0.5; R Core Team, R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Áustria). Resultados: Não houve diferença significativa na maioria das questões avaliadas. Nas questões de ranqueamento (questões 11 e 12), percebeu-se que a maioria delas apresentou um bom consenso entre os grupos entre as variáveis investigadas, sendo o biotipo a variável com maior consenso (0.58) e a massa muscular com valores abaixo de 0.50 (0,47). Não houve consenso pleno (= 1) em nenhuma das variáveis ranqueadas nessas questões. Conclusão: Foi possível concluir que os treinadores de ambos os grupos adotam diferentes variáveis físicas e antropométricas como fortes indicadores de um possível talento na modalidade investigada. Todavia, uma proposta para os treinadores das categorias de base, durante o processo avaliativo dos atletas, não deve se voltar somente para essas variáveis, mas também para os instrumentos e testes mensuradores dos aspectos psicoemocionais (pouco adotados) que também devem ser levados em consideração durante a avaliação desse processo, o que pode ser sustentado devido ao seu alto valor preditivo, frente ao processo de detecção de talentos, a partir da abordagem da Gestão do Conhecimento. Contudo, outras investigações com diferentes amostragens e desenhos metodológicos se fazem necessárias para confirmação dessa tendência. Introduction: Detecting a sporting talent has been configured as a hard work for coaches of various sports modalities. This has been recognized in people who have a high potential, a special aptitude or even an aptitude for sports performance. In addition, other conceptualizations can be adopted, aiming at the opportunity to better understand this phenomenon. However, little is known about the talent detection process, specifically in volleyball, based on the Knowledge Management approach. Objective: To compare the criteria adopted by coaches from different groups (Group A – elite coaches; Group B – base category coaches) in this talent detection process, in volleyball base categories, based on Knowledge Management. Methodology: Observational study, cross-sectional, comparative in nature. This study included 39 volleyball coaches, aged between 27 and 65 years (mean = 48.3 ± 8.4 years), all male, divided into two groups. The instrument adopted was a structured questionnaire containing 13 self-click questions. Data were presented as mean ± standard deviation, median, interquartile range (IIQ, 25th and 75th percentiles) and measures of epidemiological frequency. Comparisons of demographic characteristics between groups of coaches were made using the Mann-Whitney U test. All analyzes were performed using the R statistical programming language (version 4.0.5; R Core Team, R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria). Results: There was no significant difference in most questions evaluated. When evaluating which preferred job category, the 11 to 15 years old showed a significant difference between the groups (p=0.003). In the ranking questions (questions 11 and 12), it was noticed that most of them showed a good consensus between the groups among the investigated variables, with the biotype being the variable with the greatest consensus (0.58) and muscle mass with values below 0.50 (0.47). There was no full consensus (1) on any of the variables ranked in these questions. Conclusion: It was possible to conclude that the coaches of both groups take different physical and anthropometric variables as strong predictors of possible talent in a specific modality. During the athletes’ evaluation process, however, it is suggested that base-category coaches should take into consideration not only those variables, but also the instruments and tests meant to gauge the athletes’ psycho-emotional features (so far poorly applied) based on the Knowledge Management approach. Given its high predictive value, this framework is more precise if compared to the talent detection process. Further investigations with different sampling and methodological designs are needed to confirm these findings.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar a prevalência da síndrome de burnout em atletas de voleibol, e verificar possíveis relações do burnout com as cargas de treino e recuperação durante a temporada. Participaram desse estudo 14 jogadores de voleibol masculino. A verificação da prevalência da síndrome do burnout foi feita através do Questionário de Burnout para Atletas (QBA) e para averiguação do estresse e recuperação foi utilizado o Questionário de Estresse e Recuperação (RESTQ-Sport), ambos foram aplicados em 4 momentos da temporada: pré-temporada, fases finais do campeonato estadual, primeira fase da Superliga B e segunda fase da Superliga B. Já para a investigação da carga de treino, foi usada a carga interna obtida por meio da PSE (Percepção Subjetiva de Esforço) da sessão coletada diariamente, em seguida, foi realizado o somatório das cargas de treino semanais (CTST) das 4 semanas anteriores ao dia da coleta. Os resultados indicaram a percepção de baixos e contínuos índices em relação ao burnout total e suas dimensões durante a temporada. Em relação à vulnerabilidade à síndrome, verificou-se que a maioria dos atletas em todos os momentos e variáveis do burnout apresentaram baixa manifestação da síndrome. No tocante as cargas, observou-se um aumento da pré-temporada para os demais momentos e em seguida, uma manutenção das cargas entre os momentos da temporada. Sobre a relação do burnout com a carga de treino, foi observada uma correlação positiva entre burnout total e a dimensão exaustão física e emocional com as cargas relativas à segunda fase da Superliga B. Em relação ao estresse e recuperação, os atletas apresentaram um comportamento estável durante os quatro momentos de coleta. Ao verificar a relação da carga com estresse e recuperação, foi observada uma correlação negativa entre a qualidade do sono e as cargas do último momento de coleta. E sobre a relação do estresse e recuperação com burnout, foram encontradas correlações em todos os momentos com diversas variáveis. Conclui-se que houve uma distribuição adequada das cargas de treino ao longo da temporada, proporcionando dessa forma, uma baixa percepção em relação à síndrome do burnout nos atletas, bem como um sentimento de satisfação em relação à modalidade praticada e que a incidência ao burnout é individual, ou seja, características de cada atleta podem influenciar na vulnerabilidade à síndrome. Salientando, portanto, a importância do monitoramento das cargas de treino e recuperação, visando às adaptações positivas ao atleta, bem como seu melhor desempenho. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of burnout syndrome in volleyball athletes, and to verify possible burnout relationships with training and recovery loads during the season. Fourteen male volleyball players participated in this study. The prevalence of burnout syndrome was verified through the Burnout Questionnaire for Athletes (QBA) and stress and recovery was used with the Stress and Recovery Questionnaire (RESTQ-Sport), both were applied at 4 times of the season: preseason, final stages of the state championship, first phase Superliga B and second phase of Superliga B. For the investigation of the training load, the internal load obtained through the PSE (Effective Subjective Perception) of the daily collected session was used. Then, the sum of weekly training loads (CTST) of the 4 weeks prior to the collection day was performed. The results indicated the perception of low and continuous indices in relation to the total burnout and its dimensions during the season. Regarding vulnerability to the syndrome, it was found that most athletes at all times and variables of burnout presented low manifestation of the syndrome. Regarding the loads, there was an increase of the preseason for the other moments and then a maintenance of the loads between the moments of the season. Regarding the relationship between burnout and training load, a positive correlation was observed between total burnout and the physical and emotional exhaustion dimension with the loads related to the second phase of Superleague B. Regarding stress and recovery, the athletes presented a stable behavior. during the four collection moments. When verifying the relation of load with stress and recovery, a negative correlation was observed between sleep quality and the loads of the last moment of collection. Regarding the relationship between stress and recovery with burnout, correlations were found at all times with several variables. It was concluded that there was an adequate distribution of training loads throughout the season, thus providing a low perception regarding burnout syndrome in athletes, as well as a feeling of satisfaction regarding the modality practiced and that the incidence to burnout is individual, ie characteristics of each athlete may influence vulnerability to the syndrome. Stressing, therefore, the importance of monitoring the training and recovery loads, aiming at the positive adaptations to the athlete, as well as their best performance.
