Abstract

Dwarf novae are a crucial astrophysical laboratory for probing the nature of accretion, binary mass transfer, and binary evolution -- yet their diverse observational characteristics continue to challenge our theoretical understanding. We here present the discovery of, and subsequent observing campaign on GOTO065054+593624 (hereafter GOTO0650), a dwarf nova of the WZ Sge type, discovered in real-time by citizen scientists via the Kilonova Seekers citizen science project. An extensive dataset charts the photometric and spectroscopic evolution of this object, covering the first two months of its 2024 superoutburst. GOTO0650 shows a complete absence of visible emission lines during the high state, strong H and barely-detected He~II emission, and high-amplitude echo outbursts with a rapidly decreasing timescale that together do not neatly fit in with our current view of cataclysmic variables. The comprehensive dataset presented here not only underscores the uniqueness of this dwarf nova and marks it as a candidate period bouncer, but also highlights the important contribution that citizen scientists can make to the study of Galactic transients., Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures. Abstract

We address the existence of periodic orbits for periodic eco-epidemiological system with disease in the prey. To do it, we consider three main steps. Firstly we study a one parameter family of systems and obtain uniform bounds for the components of any periodic solution of these systems. Next, we make a suitable change of variables in our family of systems to establish the setting where we are able to apply Mawhin's continuation Theorem. Finally, we use Mawhin's continuation Theorem to obtain our result. Later on, we present two examples that include previous results in the literature and some numerical simulations to illustrate our results.

Abstract

We consider an optimal control problem for a non-autonomous model of ODEs that describes the evolution of the number of customers in some firm. Namely we study the best marketing strategy. Considering a $L^2$ cost functional, we establish the existence and uniqueness of optimal solutions, using an inductive argument to obtain uniqueness on the whole interval from local uniqueness. We also present some simulation results, based on our model, and compare them with results we obtain for an $L^1$ cost functional. For the $L^1$ cost functional the optimal solutions are of bang-bang type and thus easier to implement, because at every moment possible actions are chosen from a finite set of possibilities. For the autonomous case of $L^2$ problem, we show the effectiveness of the optimal control strategy against other formulations of the problem with simpler controls., Comment: This is a preprint of a paper whose final and definite form is with Appl. Abstract

This work presents the Network Assisted Routing and Allocation Algorithm (NARA), a routing and allocation algorithm for device-to-device (D2D) communication in 5G cellular architectures. NARA algorithm is a new routing and resource block allocation algorithm that aims at reducing the impact of interference and extends network coverage in D2D communications. We model the allocation of resource blocks as a Minimum Graph Coloring Problem. As baselines, we compare the proposed strategy to NAR-G, a previous version that uses a greedy allocation heuristic; MaxC/I, a reference heuristic for resource allocation; and LBS-AOMDV for routing. The results reveal that NARA reduces message loss in 47.4% when compared LBS-AOMDV, 39.87% to NAR-G, and 23.06% when compared to MaxC/I. As for allocation, NARA provides 23.05% more D2D flows than MaxC/I.

Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) titanium disulfide (TiS 2) is the lightest transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD). It exhibits relatively better adsorption and diffusion of sodium (Na) and potassium (K) ions than other TMDs, such as MoS 2 (molybdenum disulfide) and ReS 2 (rhenium disulfide), making it a promising anode material for alkali-ion batteries. Previous studies have found that doping significantly enhances the adsorption and diffusion capabilities of 2D TMDs. For the first time, this work reports the adsorption of Na and K ions on doped TiS 2 monolayers using first-principles calculations, where the Ti atom is substituted by 3d-transition metals, including iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), and copper (Cu). Metal-atom doping induces remarkably stronger binding of alkali ions on the surface of TiS 2 , with adsorption energies ranging from − 2.07 to − 2.48 eV for Na and − 2.59 to − 3.00 eV for K. The diffusion barrier energies for alkali ions decrease in the proximity of the doping site and increase as the ions travel away from the doping site for Fe-, Co-, and Ni-doped TiS 2. The average open circuit voltage increases dramatically when Na ions are adsorbed on Fe-doped TiS 2 (by 62%) and Co-doped TiS 2 (by 61%), while K ions result in a moderate improvement of 9% and 8%, respectively. These findings suggest that metal-atom doping considerably improves the electrochemical properties of 2D TiS 2 , potentially enabling its use as anode materials in Na- and K-ion batteries. Abstract

Sugarcane cultivation stands out in Brazilian agribusiness, covering more than eight million hectares for the production of sugar, ethanol, and by-products. Fertilization is one of the limiting factors in sugarcane yield, for which filter cake is a viable solution to meet plant nutritional needs. This study aimed to assess the effect of enriched filter cake on gas exchange and yield in RB041443 sugarcane, cultivated in soils of the coastal tablelands of Paraíba, Brazil. The experiment was conducted in the Monte Alegre S/A sugarcane mill, in the municipality of Mamanguape, using a randomized blocks experimental design, with 12 treatments (T1- cake, T2- cake + MAP, T3- cake + gypsum, T4 - cake + phosphate, T5- cake + bagasse, T6- cake + MAP + gypsum, T7- cake + MAP + phosphate, T8- cake + MAP + bagasse, T9- cake + gypsum + phosphate, T10- cake + gypsum + bagasse, T11- cake + phosphate + bagasse, and T12- control (only MAP)), and 4 replications, totaling 48 plots. A significant effect (5% probability) was also observed for the variables number of leaves and tons of stem per hectare (TSH). T1- cake, T4- cake + phosphate, T6- cake + MAP + gypsum and T10- cake + gypsum + bagasse, had the best results for TSH, with yields greater than 140 t ha-1. Regarding stomatal conductance, the highest values were obtained in T6 and T8, which, together with T11, had the highest gs values. Concerning the internal carbon concentration, T1, T2, T6, and T8 stood out. T6 also had a significant effect on transpiration. From this study, it was concluded that the use of enriched filter cake as a base fertilizer in sugarcane culture contributes to increasing the yield of the RB041443 variety, generating positive responses for plant gas exchange, being T1 and T10 indicated to increase the production in the sugar-energy sector. Resumo A cultura da cana-de-açúcar ocupa uma posição de destaque para o agronegócio brasileiro, abrangendo mais de oito milhões de hectares na produção de açúcar, etanol e subprodutos. Um dos fatores limitantes na produtividade da cana-de-açúcar é a questão da adubação, sendo a torta de filtro uma solução viável para suprir as necessidades nutricionais da planta. Com esse estudo, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do uso da torta de filtro enriquecida sob as trocas gasosas e produtividade da variedade de cana-de-açúcar RB041443 cultivada em solos dos tabuleiros costeiros da Paraíba. O experimento foi conduzido na Usina Monte Alegre S/A, no município de Mamanguape-PB, utilizando o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados com 12 tratamentos (T1- Torta, T2- Torta + MAP, T3- Torta + Gesso, T4 - Torta + Fosfato, T5- Torta + Bagaço, T6- Torta + MAP + Gesso, T7- Torta + MAP + Fosfato, T8- Torta + MAP + Bagaço, T9- Torta + Gesso + Fosfato, T10- Torta + Gesso + Bagaço, T11 - Torta + Fosfato + Bagaço, e T12 - Testemunha (Apenas MAP)), 4 repetições, totalizando 48 parcelas. Efeito significativo a 5% também foi observado para a variável número de folhas e tonelada de colmo por hectare. Para a variável TCH, os melhores resultados foram obtidos nos tratamentos T1- Torta, T4-Torta + Fosfato, T6- Torta + MAP + Gesso e T10- Torta + Gesso + Bagaço, com produtividades superiores a 140 t ha-1. Para a condutância estomática, resultados superiores foram obtidos no T6 e T8, que, junto ao T11, agruparam-se com os maiores valores de gs. Em relação a concentração interna de carbono, destacaram-se os tratamentos T1, T2, T6 e T8. Para a variável transpiração, o T6 apresentou influência significativa da torta de filtro. Com o referido estudo, concluiu-se que a utilização da torta de filtro enriquecida como adubação de fundação na cultura da cana-de-açúcar possibilita aumento no rendimento produtivo da variedade RB 041443, bem como respostas positivas para as trocas gasosas da planta, sendo os tratamentos T1 e T10 indicados para aumentar a produção do setor sucroenergético.
