HERMETIA illucens , *HOUSEFLY , *ANIMAL nutrition , *ANIMAL feeding , *NUTRITIONAL value of feeds - Abstract
Simple Summary: The use of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) and house fly (Musca domestica) as an alternative for farm animal feeding has very important implications for sustainability since it does not require the use of resources such as water and land for production, in addition to contributing to food security, especially in locations with a reduced supply of animal feed. Thus, the use of these insects as a source of nutrients can reduce the need for supplementation and the use of grains and forages. Dietary alternatives using insect-based products as an alternative for farm animal nutrition have been the object of study due to the high nutritional value of these feeds and the costs related to both their production and consequently their commercialization. Thus, the use of flies, especially larvae, has a high content of proteins and lipids (fat), as well as minerals and essential nutrients for development and growth, directly impacting the production of these animals, whether meat or milk. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compile data from the literature on the nutritional value of adults and larvae of Black soldier (Hermetia illucens) and housefly (Musca domestica) as a dietary alternative for animal feed. The Prisma checklist was used. After reviewing the data found in the literature, following the systematic review, it was noted that studies emerge that larvae of black soldier flies and domestic flies of the order Diptera obtain essential sources in the nutrition of ruminants, in addition to obtaining rapid digestibility, thus adhering to reproduction with high nutritional content, due to incident levels of protein, lipids, and minerals in M. domestica and Lucilia sericata, making it a target for inclusion in the diet of farm animals. In addition, it is concluded that both species are studied for their sustainable potential as well as for offering greater economic and nutritional viability when compared to ingredients present in production animal feed. Simple Summary: This review aims to deepen the understanding of buffalo farming in the Amazon, presenting the quality and nutritional value of buffalo meat and liver. We will explore the characteristics of nutrients and their influence on human health, with a special focus and particular emphasis in vitamins, minerals, and lipids. By investigating fatty acids and cholesterol, we seek to understand the complexity of lipids and their contribution to nutritional quality. The main objective of this study was to provide subsidies to improve buffalo farming practices, promote a healthier human diet and contribute to environmental sustainability in the Amazon region. Thus, this review aims to deepen the understanding of buffalo farming in the Amazon, presenting the quality and nutritional value of buffalo meat and liver. This information serves as a subsidy to improve practices related to the breeding system, nutrition, health and sustainability associated with aquatic buffaloes. For this, a review of the databases was carried out using the descriptors "nutritional value of buffalo meat", "nutritional value of buffalo liver" and "buffalo breeding in the Amazon". Thus, the consumption of foods derived from aquatic buffaloes has important nutritional value for human consumption. In view of this, it is possible to conclude that the nutrition of these animals is influenced by the biodiversity of the Amazon, giving unique characteristics to its products, also highlighting the importance of carrying out research that aims to value the potential use of this species and strengthen the economy of the region. EL Nino ,CLIMATE extremes ,CHESTNUT ,PASTURES ,WATER supply - Abstract
Simple Summary: The El Niño presents itself as a serious problem in the pastures of the northern region of Brazil, as it compromises the availability and quality of forage and water. Therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the thermographic profile of three production systems in the Eastern Amazon, Brazil. The results show significant differences between areas with and without chestnut tree shade. Between August and November, the highest temperatures were recorded in full sun pastures, contrasting with lower temperatures in shaded areas. The interaction between the systems revealed significant thermal variations, highlighting the positive impact of native trees on thermal regulation and indicating possible strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of El Niño. The El Niño represents a substantial threat to pastures, affecting the availability of water, forage and compromising the sustainability of grazing areas, especially in the northern region of Brazil. Therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the thermographic profile of three production systems in the Eastern Amazon, Brazil. The study was conducted on a rural cattle farm in Mojuí dos Campos, Pará, Brazil, between August and November 2023. The experiment involved livestock production systems, including traditional, silvopastoral and integrated, with different conditions of shade and access to the bathing area. An infrared thermographic (IRT) camera was used, recording temperatures in different zones, such as areas with trees, pastures with forage and exposed pastures. The highest mean temperatures (p = 0.02) were observed in pastures with full sun from August to November. On the other hand, the lowest average temperatures were recorded in areas shaded by chestnut trees (Bertholletia excelsa). The highest temperature ranges were found in sunny areas and the lowest were recorded in shaded areas. The highest temperatures were observed in the pasture in full sun, while the lowest were recorded in areas shaded by chestnut trees (p < 0.0001). The interaction between the systems and treatments revealed significant temperature differences (p < 0.0001), with the native trees showing an average temperature of 35.9 °C, lower than the grasses and soil, which reached 61.2 °C. This research concludes that, under El Niño in the Eastern Amazon, areas shaded by Brazil nut trees had lower temperatures, demonstrating the effectiveness of shade. Native trees, compared to grasses and soil, showed the ability to create cooler environments, highlighting the positive influence on different species such as sheep, goats and cattle. CAKE ,BODY temperature regulation ,ROTATIONAL grazing ,DEW point ,DIETARY supplements ,SEASONAL temperature variations ,MINERAL waters ,ENERGY consumption - Abstract
Simple Summary: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of climatic conditions and supplementation based on palm kernel cake, on the thermoregulation of crossbred buffaloes in the eastern Amazon. Over a 12-month period, 24 female buffaloes with an initial age of 54 ± 7 months and an average weight of 503.1 ± 23 kg were divided into four groups with different levels of palm kernel cake supplementation relative to body weight. The animals were kept in Brachiaria brizantha pastures with access to water and mineral salt. Supplementation did not influence the physiological variables of thermoregulation. Throughout the year, mean values of rectal temperature, respiratory rate and body surface temperature were higher in the afternoon (p > 0.05). Supplementation with palm cake did not result in influences on the thermoregulation of buffaloes in the study region. The respiratory rate showed an association with the annual seasonality of temperatures, with higher averages in the afternoons of the rainy season. The positive correlation between the rectal temperature, respiratory rate, and body surface temperature indicates that buffaloes respond to atmospheric thermal elevations (afternoon period), which is reflected in increasing thermal indices. In ruminants, diet composition has a positive correlation with heat production, which can influence thermoregulation, energy expenditure and, consequently, animal performance. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of climatic conditions and supplementation based on palm kernel cake, on the thermoregulation of crossbred buffaloes in the eastern Amazon. The research was carried out at Embrapa Amazônia Oriental (01°26′ S and 48°24′ W), Belém, Pará, and lasted 12 months (representing the entire year). Twenty-four buffaloes, females, with initial age and an average weight of 54 ± 7 months and 503.1 ± 23 kg, respectively, non-pregnant, non-lactating and clinically healthy were used, divided into four treatments based on the supplementation content of the palm cake (%DM) in relation to their body weight (%): 0, 0.25, 0.50 and 1.0. The animals were kept in paddocks with Brachiaria brizantha (cv. Marandu), in a rotating system, with water to drink and mineral salt ad libitum. Equipment was installed to record environmental data (temperature and relative humidity, dew point temperature, wet bulb and black globe) and physiological data: rectal temperature (RT); respiratory rate (RR); and body surface temperature (BST), recorded twice a day, always in the morning (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.) and afternoon (12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.) shifts, and were used to calculate the Globe Temperature and Humidity Index (GTHI). Supplementation did not influence the physiological variables of thermoregulation (p > 0.05). However, there were differences in the GTHI between the shifts, with higher means in the afternoon shift, especially in the less rainy period of the year, where the GTHI reached 92.06 ± 2.74 (p < 0.05). In all periods of the year, the mean values of RT, RR and BST were higher in the afternoon shift (p > 0.05). The respiratory rate (RR) is associated with the annual seasonality of the thermal waters, with higher averages in the afternoons of the rainy season. The positive correlation for rectal temperature, respiratory rate and body surface temperature indicated that buffaloes respond to thermal elevations in the atmosphere (afternoon period) and, consequently, reflect on the GTHI. Supplementation does not influence thermoregulation; the changes observed occurred in response to the region's thermal and rainfall conditions (mainly in the afternoon shift), with higher GTHI values. Lactation ,Imagens termográficas ,Cows ,Lactancia ,Vacas ,Mammary gland ,Temperature ,Lactação ,Temperatura ,Imágenes termográficas - Abstract
The objective of this work was to perform the thermographic evaluation of the mammary glands and the eyeball of dairy cattle females on a rural property in the municipality of Mojuí dos Campos, in Western Pará. Eight (n = 8) pluriparous Girolando dairy females were used, maintained in a semi-intensive system, with an average age and weight of 7 years and 450 kg, respectively. The females were divided into two experimental groups, Lactating (LACT, n = 4) and Non-Lactating (N-LACT, n = 4). An infrared thermographic camera was used to obtain the surface temperature of the mammary glands (upper, middle and final third region) and the eyeball. Past version 2.16 was used, obtaining mean and standard deviation and analysis of variance with the Anova One-Waye Tukey test (5%). Mean surface temperature was observed in the mammary glands in the LACT and N-LACT group of 40.2ºC±0.8 and 39.6ºC±0.9, 38.9ºC±0.6 and 38.0ºC±0.7, and 37.5ºC±0.6 and 36.8ºC±0.7 in the upper, middle and final third regions, respectively. The females in the N-LACT group had an average temperature of the eyeball of 36.3ºC ± 0.8 and the LACT 37.3ºC±0.8. There was a numerically higher surface temperature in the mammary gland of lactating females, especially in the upper third, and lower temperatures in the final third (teats), however, statistically significant differences were not detected between the groups (P≥0.05). Greater thermal amplitude was found in the middle third of the mammary glands and higher surface temperature in the eyeball region of lactating females. Thus, infrared thermography is a technique capable of pointing out specific regions in the detection of changes in dairy cattle herds.

The objective of this study was to analyze the perception of risk in the use of agrochemicals regarding the use and disposal of empty packaging in vegetable gardens in the municipality of Santarém, Pará. The study was carried out in the municipality of Santarém, Pará, in order to verify the perception of producers who use agrochemicals in vegetable gardens, thus, were evaluated on the spot with the application of a questionnaire containing 10 open and closed questions, with 7 vegetable producing communities being evaluated (Área Verde, Cristo Rei, Floresta, Jutaí, Mararu, Tabocal and Urumanduba ), totaling 30 farmers. Analyzing the results, it was observed that all producers respect the grace period and a large part makes use of conventional methods, following mainly as label instructions, it was also observed that most producers receive guidance from professionals with technical knowledge on the subject. It was noticed that the most widely used agrochemical was the insecticide, besides, only a small part of the producers used complete personal protective equipment and most of them wash the after use, however, they do not perform a triple washing of the empty packaging. Finally, it can be seen that most producers are unaware of the collection point and discard the packaging of agrochemicals mainly in the trash. In view of the above, it is concluded that vegetable producers in the municipality of Santarém do not correctly dispose of empty agrochemical packages, discarding them in an advanced environment, and no producer returned a package at the collection point as recommended by Brazilian legislation.

The aim of this study was to present a systematic review and scientometric analysis on commercial eggs production in Brazil. For the systematic review, articles targeted to the described subtopics were selected. In contrast, the scientometric analysis was performed considering the articles indexed on CAPES, SCIELO, SCORPUS and WEB OF SCIENCE platforms. Subsequently, the articles found were analyzed and grouped according to the number of publications per year, the theme addressed in the publications, regions where the publications occurred, main authors, list of journals where the articles were published and the qualifications of the journals. The results showed that articles on commercial eggs have decreased in recent years, with Salmonella detection and contamination being the most addressed topic (30%). The objective of this study was to report the diseases that occur in calves up to one year of age, establishing the main epidemiological factors associated with the occurrence of these diseases. The breeding phase is considered the most sensitive of the entire production system. Calves, especially in the first weeks of life, are more susceptible to acquiring diseases, being important attention by the caregivers on basic care, thus avoiding the highest mortality rates that occur mainly until the weaning, with the most frequent problems being navel infections, diarrhea, pneumonia, verminoses and parasitic sorrows. In view of the above, this study made it possible, through analyzes of scientific studies, to conclude that neonatal care is extremely necessary to prevent the animal from being affected by some type of illness, environmental conditions and inadequate sanitary management associated to the lack of measures prophylactic factors are determinant for the increase in the number of sick animals. On the other hand, the correct nutritional management, prevention and control of these diseases favor to improve health, allowing the animal to express its maximum potential for production and reproduction throughout its life, contributing to a positive economic return, reducing expenses with treatments and with future epidemics.

- Abstract

- Abstract
The highest mean temperatures ( p = 0.02) were observed in pastures with full sun from August to November. On the other hand, the lowest average temperatures were recorded in areas shaded by chestnut trees ( Bertholletia excelsa ). The highest temperature ranges were found in sunny areas and the lowest were recorded in shaded areas. The highest temperatures were observed in the pasture in full sun, while the lowest were recorded in areas shaded by chestnut trees ( p < 0.0001). The interaction between the systems and treatments revealed significant temperature differences ( p < 0.0001), with the native trees showing an average temperature of 35.9 °C, lower than the grasses and soil, which reached 61.2 °C.
