Background: Mental health is an important marker for survival during pandemic. This article describes the study protocol on the research project "Mental Health Status of COVID-19 Patients in Malaysia (MENTALSTATCOVID)" which aims to determine the burden of mental health among COVID-19 patients in Malaysia. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study via web-based online survey involving 401 patients in the main COVID-19 hospitals in Malaysia who were selected via quota sampling. The questionnaire consists of socio-demographic profile, Patient Health Questionnaire 9 items (PHQ-9), General Anxiety Disorders 7 items (GAD-7) and Brief COPE (Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced). Result: The overall response rate was 93.47%. Discussion: The survey has proven to be convenience, feasible, simple as it did not require massive logistic preparation, and yet acceptable and effective in delivering the intended data. This is evidenced by the high response rate. Conclusion: This is the first study to address burden of mental health among hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Malaysia. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was historically linked to hyperactive behaviours in boys and presumed resolved in adulthood. Girls with ADHD, often presented with inattention and emotional dysregulation, frequently went undiagnosed or misdiagnosed as depression and anxiety. The delayed diagnosis of ADHD in women has significant implications for their marriages. The impact on marital relationships can be viewed from two angles: the direct effects of ADHD symptoms and the responses of their spouses to these symptoms. Core ADHD symptoms, including attention dysregulation, disorganisation, impulsivity, and emotional dysregulation, substantially disrupt marital harmony. Societal expectations regarding women's roles in marriage, encompass responsibilities such as home organisation, childcare, and financial management, which intensifies the distress experienced by women with ADHD as they grapple with fulfilling these roles while contending with their symptoms. This often results in feelings of resentment, shame, guilt and a pervasive sense of failure. Simultaneously, their attention dysregulation, which alternates between distractibility and hyperfocus, can make spouses feel neglected and unimportant. Emotional and impulsivity can further strain the relationship. The first step in managing ADHD within a marriage is obtaining a proper diagnosis and recognising ADHD as contributing to marital conflicts. An accurate diagnosis can be a relief alongside grief. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of ADHD offer a transformative perspective on the complex challenges faced in marriage. While medication may prove beneficial in addressing ADHD symptoms, a holistic approach is essential. Recognising strengths and vulnerabilities, addressing target symptoms through behavioural strategies such as implementing external structures for organisation, modifying the environment, and establishing routines that include regular emotional check-ins while employing empathetic and supportive communication are invaluable tools for managing ADHD within the context of marriage. Introduction: Prolonged COVID-19 pandemic with high morbidity and mortality may cause traumatic events to Healthcare Workers (HCW), resulting in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms. Hence, this study aims to determine the prevalence of PTSD symptoms and its association with coping strategies among HCW in managing COVID-19 pandemic at Klang Valley Public Hospitals in Malaysia. Methods: A cross-sectional study with total of 424 eligible respondents were recruited through stratified random sampling. Data was collected from 6th May until 6th June 2021 using a self-administered online questionnaire adopted from MPCL-5 and Brief COPE instruments. IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences Version 26 was used to analyse data. Result: 25% of the respondents demonstrated PTSD symptoms. Respondents who are single (aOR=3.319, 95% CI: 1.912, 5.762, p-value <0.001) and had history of positive COVID-19 (aOR= 2.563, 95% CI:1.058, 6.209, p-value=0.037) were more likely to experience PTSD symptoms. Frequently coping with self-blaming (aOR= 7.804, 95% CI: 3.467, 17.568, p-value < 0.001), behavioural disengagement (aOR= 7.262, 95% CI: 1.973, 26.723, p-value =0.003), humour (aOR= 5.303, 95% CI: 1.754, 16.039, p-value =0.003), venting emotion (aOR= 3.287, 95% CI: 1.521, 7.105, p-value =0.002) and less planning (aOR= 2.006, 95% CI:1.154, 3.487 p-value =0.014) are significant predictors for PTSD symptoms. Conclusion: One in four HCW managing COVID-19 in Klang Valley public hospitals experienced PTSD symptoms. Therefore, urgent interventional program targeting HCW who are single with history of positive COVID-19 is beneficial to prevent PTSD. Maladaptive coping strategies like self-blaming, venting emotion, humour and behavioural disengagement should be replaced with more adaptive coping strategies like planning, self-compassion, self-care and self-reflection.
