A preliminary research in the field of environmental biotechnology to the production of biofuel from the tropical microalga consortium consisting of Chlorella vulgaris and Closterium sp have been done. Microalga cultivation in batch culture are controlled at temperature of 25°C, PH 6, aeration of 1 ml/sec, and lights of 4000 lux. Nutrient sources utilize artificial Provasoli Heamatococcus Media which consist of micro and macro nutrients. Analysis of bioethanol from microalga start with finding the maximum starch production from wet weight of biomass, dried weight of biomass, and at hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is proceeded by adding HCL 1 Molar as much as 0.04 grams of dried weight of biomass. The analysis of starch is proceeded by nelson samogy method by adding alkali and pre reaction arsenomolibdat. Absorbent is measured through the wave length 540 nm by spectrofotometre. The average of dried weight biomass is 0,8 grams/liter. Research reveal that the highest starch production is occured in microalga consortium at hydrolysis process and produces starch of 88.31% (v/v). The two types of tropical microalgae have a potential as solid compound of bioethanol.

This research was aimed to obtain algae biofuels as an alternative energy which comes from tropical microalgae biomass Chlorella sorokiniana and Closterium sp. The cultivation was performed at a controlled room in batch culture photobioreactor, temperature 27°C, pH 6, aeration with air flow rate of 150 mL/sec, and light intensity at 2400 lux. These nutrient sources used artificial PHM with KNO3 variation as a nitrogen source of 0 grams; 0.25 grams; 0.5 grams; 1 gram. The research involved microalgae lipid extraction with Blight & Dyer method and also carried out support of alcohol, chloroform and distilled water (1:1:1) with optimum temperature 30oC. Oil yields that obtained were analyzed with Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) method, dry weight with a gravimetric method and cell density with spectrophotometry. The result showed that the reduction of KNO3 materials (0,25 gr) can produce biomass and highest total lipid content at 0,41 g/L and 20,31 %/(w/w). The results showed that KNO3 decreased the amount of biomass which was not significant but the total lipid content of microalgae was increased. Lipid content and fatty acids extracted from Blight & Dyer showed oil content that could potentially be the raw material of biodiesel.

Background and Aim: The phytogenic cocktail (PC) is a unique combination of natural plant extracts consisting of coconut shell smoke, clove leaf extract, and mangosteen rind extract, predominantly containing phenol, eugenol, and α-mangostin. Chicken performance can be improved by its antibacterial properties. This study aimed to test PC as a replacement for antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs), assessing its impact on performance, intestinal microbes, and carcass traits in slow growth KUB chickens., Materials and Methods: Two hundred and forty KUB chicks were distributed randomly to five dietary groups. Each group constituted six replicates, one replicate contained eight chicks. The treatments included the control diet (CD) with no additives, CD with 50 ppm Zinc bacitracin as an additive (AGPs), CD paired with 198 mL PC/ton feed provided for the initial 12 weeks (PC1), CD with 198 mL PC/ton feed given for the first 4 weeks (PC2), and CD supplied with 198 mL PC/ton feed for the first 8 weeks (PC3). Performance and mortality indicators were assessed during the feeding stage up to 12 weeks of age, while intestinal total microbial count and carcass characteristics were determined at 12 weeks. Duncan's multiple-range test identified differences among the treatments in the randomized experiment., Results: The AGPs group weighed significantly more (p < 0.05) than PC2 but not significantly different (p > 0.05) from Control, PC1, and PC3 at 4 weeks. At 8 weeks, there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in the body weight (BW) between the AGP, CD, and PC groups. The AGPs group had a significantly greater BW than PC1 and PC2 at 12 weeks (p < 0.05), but was comparable to CD and PC3 (p > 0.05). During the starter phase (0-4 weeks), dietary addition of AGPs or PCs significantly reduced feed intake (p < 0.05); however, no significant effect (p > 0.05) was observed during the later feeding periods (0-8 or 0-12 weeks). During the starter period, PC3 yielded the best feed conversion ratio, slightly surpassing AGPs and significantly (p < 0.05) outperforming CD. No significant variations (p > 0.05) were detected in the carcasses among the treatments. The reduction of abdominal fat relative weight was significant (p < 0.05) during the first 8 weeks of PC feeding. After the 12-week trial, no significant difference (p > 0.05) was observed in the proportionate weights of the crop, proventriculus, gizzard, pancreas, cecum, spleen, bursa of Fabricius, heart, and liver. The reduction in the intestinal microbe population due to AGPs or PC was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). About 100% viability was confirmed by the absence of mortality throughout the study., Conclusion: PC supplementation in KUB chicken feed enhances their performance. The optimal feeding regimes were effective during the first 8 weeks of age. In the 0-4 week time frame, feeding the PC to the chicken worsened performance whereas no improvement was observed in the 0-12 week period. The application enhanced weight loss, feed efficiency, and reduced abdominal fat. Innovations for a low-carbon economy and carbon neutrality are the focal points of technology development in the energy sector. This paper aims to investigate the progress of technology and advancements in the energy sector and the implications for Indonesia via two routes, viz., renewable energy and energy efficiency. The methodology employed in this research is divided into two parts. Firstly, an extensive literature review was conducted to identify prevalent research trends within the energy sector. Second, a case study method was performed to gain a comprehensive understanding of energy transformation within the electricity and steel sectors. The study presents two key findings. First, the energy sector has experienced significant technological disruption, providing the opportunity for Indonesia to transition towards a low-carbon development. This includes smart grids, energy-intensive industries, electric vehicles, and storage (pumped storage and battery). Second, lessons from the steel industry show that the technology selection is sensitive to parent company, and this is not easily captured in literature studies. Background: The main therapy for head and neck cancer is radiation, and one of the toxic effects of radiation is radiation dermatitis. Aloe vera is a species of succulent plant of the genus Aloe , widely used in cosmetic and skin care products, as well as daikon ( Raphanus sativus var. longipinnatus ), which is high in antioxidants., Objectives: The present study aims to evaluate the potential benefits of Aloe vera and daikon gel combination in head and neck cancer patients to prevent radiation-induced dermatitis., Methods: A cohort study was conducted with eligible subjects, all head and neck cancer patients receiving radiation therapy selected in consecutive sampling. Samples were divided into two groups; either received Aloe vera and daikon combination gel (study group) or baby oil (control induced dermatitis (RID) were observed., Results: A total of 44 patients were grouped into intervention ( Aloe vera -daikon gel) and control (baby oil) groups. After ten radiotherapies (RT) sessions, the intervention group had a lower percentage of grade 1 RID (35% vs. 91.7%, control: 65% grade 2 RID, P < 0.001). After 20 RT sessions, 40% had no dermatitis, while all patients had RID in the control group (P = 0.061). After 30 RT sessions, the intervention group had a lower RID grade overall (gr 0: 5%, gr 1: 85%, gr 2: 10%) compared to the control group (gr 1: 33.3%, gr 2: 54.3%, gr 3: 8.3%, P = 0.002). After 35 RT sessions, the intervention group also had a lower RID grade overall (gr 0: 5%, gr 1: 65%, gr 2: 20%, gr 3: 10%) compared to the control group (gr 1: 8.3%, gr 2: 37.5%, gr 3: 45.8%, gr 4: 8.3%, P < 0.001)., Conclusions: The combination of Aloe vera and daikon gel showed promising results in reducing the severity of radiation-induced dermatitis for head and neck cancer patients., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interests: This study was supported by TALENTA Grant, University of Sumatera Utara, with no conflict of interest. Current policy is driving renewed impetus to restore forests to return ecological function, protect species, sequester carbon and secure livelihoods. Here we assess the contribution of tree planting to ecosystem restoration in tropical and sub-tropical Asia; we synthesize evidence on mortality and growth of planted trees at 176 sites and assess structural and biodiversity recovery of co-located actively restored and naturally regenerating forest plots. Mean mortality of planted trees was 18% 1 year after planting, increasing to 44% after 5 years. Mortality varied strongly by site and was typically ca 20% higher in open areas than degraded forest, with height at planting positively affecting survival. Size-standardized growth rates were negatively related to species-level wood density in degraded forest and plantations enrichment settings. Based on community-level data from 11 landscapes, active restoration resulted in faster accumulation of tree basal area and structural properties were closer to old-growth reference sites, relative to natural regeneration, but tree species richness did not differ. High variability in outcomes across sites indicates that planting for restoration is potentially rewarding but risky and context-dependent. Restoration projects must prepare for and manage commonly occurring challenges and align with efforts to protect and reconnect remaining forest areas. A stable repaired fracture is the key factor responsible for the recovery of a damaged bone. The iron-based implant is one of the biodegradable metals that have been proven safe as a fracture fixation device. The objective of our experimental approach was to examine the potential of the iron-based implant as a biodegradable metal in tibia shaft fracture in sheep chronically. The samples used for this experiment were iron-based and stainless steel implants. Each had a diameter of 5 mm. These samples were analyzed through 3 phases which are material characterization, in vitro and in vivo examination. The samples were examined using a scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectrometer and X-ray diffraction. Based on the analysis carried out, the samples contained 90,02% and 60,81% Fe for iron-based implant and stainless implant, respectively. Both implants maintained high viability when being in contact with calf pulmonary artery endothelial cells, indicating that both implants had a minimum response to the cell in a hemocytometer and methyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. The systemic effect of the implants was observed using hematology and blood chemistry examination. Data collection also shows that both implants also had a minimum response to the erythrocytes, leucocytes, blood chemistry, and blood mineral during the period of observation. Therefore, it could be concluded that the iron-based implant is tolerable for a period of 9 months. It also has the potential to be used as a biodegradable orthopedic implant.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Market is the main place for transactions of medicinal plants and traditional ingredients by local community in the Karo regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. This is the first study to document the local knowledge of traders on and the diversity of the medicinal plants. The investigation was carried out in the Kabanjahe traditional market, in the Karo regency. The research goal was to reveal the local knowledge, diversity and utilization of medicinal plants, which have been traded in the Kabanjahe traditional market, as a basis for conservation efforts., Materials and Methods: The study was conducted through ethnobotanical approach using market surveys. All traders of medicinal plants were surveyed applying in-depth interviews and participative observations. Data were analyzed qualitatively using descriptive statistics. The diversity of medicinal plants was expressed in term of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'), whereas the similarity among traders was indicated by Jaccard index (Ji)., Results: Traders of medicinal plants stored the simplicia of medicinal plants in chest of drawers, plastic baskets, plastic bags, and in the air by suspending them from the the stall ceilings. We recorded 344 species, 217 genera and 90 families of medicinal plants. Those that were sold mostly belong to Zingeberaceae (20 species), Poaceae (19 species), and Asclepiadaceae (17 species), and the species received high consumers demand, mostly belong to Zingiberaceae, Rutaceae, and Asclepidiaceae. Asclepidiaceae was used to treat diseases like cancer and heart problems. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index of medicinal plants at the Kabanjahe traditional market was high (H'= 5.637). The high Jaccard similarity index (Ji>0.56) suggested that the traders were trading similar species of medicinal plants., Conclusion: Kabanjahe traditional market is the center for the sale of of medicinal plants as traditional ingredients. Several species are well known for their pharmacological properties but others, [such as: Dischidia imbricata (Blume) Steud., Dischidia nummularia R.Br., Hoya macrophylla Blume, and Hoya coriacea Blume] have been used for cancer treatment by local communities, but pharmacologically unknown, hence they are promising candidates for further investigation., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Families in the Timor society of Indonesia have customarily used traditional houses, called Ume Kbubu, for confinement practices of a newborn baby and the mother during the first 40 days after birth. The practice, known as Sei (smoke) tradition, involves retaining heat, which is believed to foster healing, inside the house by continuously burning a wood burning stove. Exacerbated by inadequate ventilation in the traditional house, this practice results in poor indoor air quality and negatively affects the health of the mother and baby. Preliminary findings from a baseline study conducted in 2009 identified high levels of indoor air pollution in Ume Kbubu where mothers practiced the Sei tradition. Many respondents expressed that they suffered from respiratory health problems during the practice. On the basis of those results, a follow-up study was conducted in 2011 to develop and test a communication-focused behavior change intervention that would foster conversion of traditional houses into healthy Ume Kbubu and promote changes to traditional practices for better health outcomes. The study suggests that redesigning an Ume Kbubu house could promote better air quality inside the house and involving the community in the health intervention program led to positive changes in the Sei practice (i.e., decreasing the Sei period's length from 40 days to 4 days on average and attempting to reduce household air pollution). The study resulted in several recommendations in relation to sustained transformation to improve health behaviors.

Twenty patients with mild to severe essential hypertension completed a 12-week open crossover study to compare the effectiveness and tolerance of two beta-blocker/diuretic combinations. Patients were allocated at random to receive treatment for 6 weeks with either 40 mg propranolol plus 12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide twice daily or 400 mg acebutolol plus 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide once daily. They were then crossed over to the alternative medication for a further 6 weeks. Blood pressures and pulse rate were monitored in the supine and erect positions at regular intervals, as were side-effects, laboratory variables and ECG. The results showed that both combinations produced significant reductions from baseline in systolic and diastolic blood pressures but that the acebutolol combination produced a significantly greater reduction in diastolic blood pressure. There was no evidence of a treatment sequence effect. The two drug treatments were reasonably well tolerated, with a trend in favour of the acebutolol combination. No clinically significant changes were observed in any of the laboratory parameters investigated and there were no ECG abnormalities.
