Many branches of European industry have had to recognize that their advantage in the world market has been neutralized, particularly by Asian competition. In many cases, a deficit of up to 30% in costs and productivity exists already. The reasons are rigid, Tayloristic company structures. The companies are not in a position to react flexibly to constantly changing environmental conditions. This article illustrates the methods of the "fractal company" that are necessary to solve the structure crisis. The fractal company distinguishes itself through its dynamics and its vitality, as well as its independent reaction to the changing circumstances. The developed methods, procedures, and framework conditions such as company structuring, human networking, hierarchy formation, and models for renumeration and working time are explained. They are based on practical examples from IPA's work with the automobile industry, their suppliers, and the engineering industry.

The realization of digitalization in production companies - currently also referred to as Industry 4.0 - aims for reduction of internal value creation costs as well as costs for intercompany collaboration and plays a key role in their current strategy development. However, related strategy research still lacks to provide operationalized digitalization methods and tools to practitioners with scientific rigor as well as real-world relevance. To challenge this status quo, we present a scientifically grounded 14-step procedure model including 11 practically tested tools, developed specifically for real-world application. The model leads practitioners from their first contact with industrial digitalization, through the maturity assessment of 143 digitalization items, until the implementation of a KPI-monitoring system and a continuous improvement process. We applied and re-worked the procedure model during three years of application. Validation and Feedback from practitioner s and scholars indicate, that the model drives strategy development towards objective and data-based decision making and increases stakeholder engagement in organizations considerably.

Eine hohe Prozessstabilität und Produktqualität ist für viele Unternehmen entscheidend, um in einem sehr kompetitiven Markt konkurrenzfähig zu bleiben. Vor dem Hintergrund der digitalen Transformation der Produktion werden an Produktionsanlagen eine Vielzahl an Prozess- und Qualitätsdaten erfasst, verarbeitet und gespeichert. In diesem Zusammenhang wird in diesem Beitrag ein Ansatz zur Qualitätsprognose anhand Prozessparametern einer Papiermaschine mittels Industrial Data Science vorgestellt. Der entwickelte Ansatz ermöglicht eine Reduktion des qualitätsbedingten Ausschusses aufgrund kürzerer Reaktionszeiten im Fall von Prozessschwankungen.

In diesem Fachartikel werden zwei Methoden vorgestellt, die zur Optimierung der Instandhaltungsprozesse kombiniert werden. Zunächst wird ein neu entwickelter Instandhaltungs-Standardprozess vorgestellt, mit dem sich vergleichbare Kennzahlen generieren lassen, um die Instandhaltung bewertbar zu machen. Aufbauend auf der "Instandhaltung in 8 Schritten"-Methode wurde die Methode des Wertstromdesign für die Instandhaltung adaptiert. Das ermöglicht, die Instandhaltung hinsichtlich ihrer Wertschöpfung darzustellen und sie dahingehend zu optimieren. Effekte sind unter anderem der Fokus auf den Kunden (Produktion), ein Verkürzen der Instandhaltungszeiten und die damit erreichbare Erhöhung der Verfügbarkeit von Maschinen und Anlagen.

Durch die Verknüpfung zu externen Daten sind generische Simulationsmodelle besonders für die flexible und kontinuierliche Bewertung von Produktionssystemen geeignet. Die interaktive Fabrikplanung lässt das Mitarbeiterwissen in den Planungsprozess einfließen. Der Anwender kann die Vorteile einer teambasierten partizipativen Planung zeitgleich zur objektiven Bewertung nutzen, indem er die generische Simulation mit der interaktiven Fabrikplanung koppelt.

The 'Learning and Innovation Factory for Integrative Production Education (LF)' at the Vienna University of Technology (VUT) is the basis of the case study presented in this paper. One of the key objectives of the Learning Factory was to develop an immersive learning environment resulting in an integrated hands-on and 'heads-on' educational laboratory. One key-challenge was the utilization of the potential of problem-based and action-oriented learning and its transfer to higher education in industrial engineering. The teaching methodology harnesses the advantages of an interdisciplinary, experience-based and applied approach to learning and knowledge transfer, in order to build and hone the key competences of future industrial engineers. This is done in the context of a comprehensive approach to the Product Development Process, spanning the entire genesis of a product from product conception to serial production. Therefore, the pilot course was dubbed the 'integrative P roduct Emergence Process' (i-PEP). The presented case study shows the first results with respect to competence development for industrial engineers and presents the current approach of the VUT-LF and intended future developments.

Angesichts der zunehmenden Nachfrage nach individualisierten Produkten gewinnen Konfiguratoren zunehmend an Bedeutung. Besonders interessant sind Konfiguratoren, die über das Internet bedienbar sind. Diese erlauben eine orts- und zeitunabhängige Nutzung durch Vertriebsmitarbeiter und Kunden. Beschrieben wird eine neue elektronische Dienstleistung zur Konfiguration, Simulation und Animation von Produktionssystemen. Mit ihr können Produktionssysteme über das Internet angeboten, getestet und optimiert werden.

This paper is about a new methodical approach of the joint and simultaneous application of Value Stream Mapping and Methods-Time Measurement (MTM). The focus of Value Stream Mapping is the alignment and combination of individual processes to form a continuous, efficient value stream through the organisation (macro consideration). MTM provides an exact determination of times and focuses on executions of individual tasks and working places (micro consideration). A hybrid optimisation of added value originates form the reasonable and useful combination of Value Stream Mapping and Methods-Time Measurement for increasing productivity, reducing lead time and exact determination of times.

Weniger als zehn Prozent der weltweiten Automobilproduktion von 59 Millionen Autos werden an deutschen und österreichischen Produktionsstandorten gebaut. Trotzdem ist die Automobilindustrie unstrittig eine der wichtigsten Schlüsselindustrien der beiden Volkswirtschaften. Doch in dieser Branche - einschließlich ihrer Zulieferer und Ausrüster - ändert sich alles, was sich nur ändern kann. Wie müssen der Maschinen- und Anlagenbau sowie die Zulieferer auf diese Veränderungen reagieren?

Viele Unternehmen machen beim Einstieg ins Internet immer wieder dieselben Fehler aus Angst, den Internet-Zug zu verpassen. Sie wollen möglichst schnell und billig ins Netz. Hauptsache die eigene Homepage steht, um den Rest kann man sich ja später noch kümmern. Dieses Verhalten von Unternehmen ist nicht nur fahrlässig, sondern beruht zumeist auch auf fehlender Erfahrung mit dem Medium. Die Planung und Umsetzung eines e-commerce-Vorhabens erweist sich im Vergleich zur Unternehmenspräsentation via Homepage ungleich komplizierter. Eine Untersuchung der Gartner-Group kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass 75 Prozent der e-commerce Projekte scheitern, weil sie von den Unternehmen schlecht geplant werden und ihnen unrealistische Erwartungen in Bezug auf die neuen Technologien zugrunde liegen. Zudem lassen sich Unternehmen häufig von den Möglichkeiten blenden, die ihnen diese Technologie bieten, was zur Folge hat, dass eine gesunde Geschäfts- und Strategieplanung beim Einstieg in den e-commerce auf der Strecke bleiben. Eben diese sind aber unabdingbar, wenn die Internet-Präsenz ein Erfolg werden soll.
