The problem of the numerical analysis of natural convection from a spinning cone with variable wall temperature, viscous dissipation and pressure work effect is studied. The numerical method used is based on the spectral analysis. The method used to solve the system of partial differential equations is the multi-domain bivariate spectral quasi-linearization method (MD-BSQLM). The numerical method is compared with other methods in the literature, and the results show that the MD-BSQLM is robust and accurate. The method is also stable for large parameters. The numerical errors do not deteriorate with increasing iterations for different values of all parameters. The numerical error size is of the order of 10−101{0}^{-10}. With the increase in the suction parameter ξ\xi , fluid velocity, spin velocity and temperature profiles decrease.

In this work, we present a new modification to the bivariate spectral collocation method in solving Emden-Fowler equations. The novelty of the modified approach is the use of overlapping grids when applying the Chebyshev spectral collocation method. In the case of nonlinear partial differential equations, the quasilinearisation method is used to linearize the equation. The multi-domain technique is applied in both space and time intervals, which are both decomposed into overlapping subintervals. The spectral collocation method is then employed in the discretization of the iterative scheme to give a matrix system to be solved simultaneously across the overlapping subintervals. Several test examples are considered to demonstrate the general performance of the numerical technique in terms of efficiency and accuracy. The numerical solutions are matched against exact solutions to confirm the accuracy and convergence of the method. The error bound theorems and proofs have been considered to emphasize on the benefits of the method. The use of an overlapping grid gives a matrix system with less dense matrices that can be inverted in a computationally efficient manner. Thus, implementing the spectral collocation method on overlapping grids improves the computational time and accuracy. Furthermore, few grid points in each subinterval are required to achieve stable and accurate results. The approximate solutions are established to be in excellent agreement with the exact analytical solutions.

This paper introduces a novel approach for solving first-order stiff initial value problems through the development of a one-step family of three optimized second-derivative hybrid block methods. The optimization process was integrated into the derivation of the methods to achieve maximal accuracy. Through a rigorous analysis, it was determined that the methods exhibit properties of consistency, zero-stability, convergence, and A-stability. The proposed methods were implemented using the waveform relaxation technique, and the computed results demonstrated the superiority of these schemes over certain existing methods investigated in the study. The effects of vertical throughflow, rotation, cross‐diffusion, and vertical heterogeneous permeability on the onset of double‐diffusive convection in a finite vertical porous cylinder have been studied. The fluid in the cylinder is warmed and salted from below with its top and lower walls considered to be isothermal, isosolutal, and permeable. In the model, the Brinkman model was adopted, coupled with the Oberbeck–Boussinesq approximation. The normal mode technique is used for linear stability analysis and a single‐term Galerkin method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem. Further, the influence of parameters such as the thermal and solute Rayleigh, Taylor, and the Soret and Dufour numbers on the fluid system instability have been investigated. Among other results, we found that vertical heterogeneity may either stabilize or destabilize a fluid system. The stabilization of the throughflow remains consistent irrespective of the orientation in the absence of a cross‐diffusion effect. The dual effect of throughflow is observed when there are cross‐diffusion effect. We found that increasing the Dufour parameter delays the onset of both stationary and oscillatory convection. The positive Soret number has a stabilizing effect on stationary convection and a destabilizing effect on the oscillatory convection case. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the thermoconvective instability in a rotating ferromagnetic fluid confined between two parallel infinite plates with temperature modulation at the boundaries. We use weakly nonlinear stability theory to analyze the stationary convection in terms of critical Rayleigh numbers. The influence of parameters such as the Taylor number, the ratio of the magnetic force to the buoyancy force and the magnetization on the flow behaviour and structure are investigated. The heat transfer coefficient is analyzed for both the in-phase and the out-of-phase modulations. A truncated Fourier series is used to obtain a set of ordinary differential equations for the time evolution of the amplitude of convection for the ferromagnetic fluid flow. The system of differential equations is solved using a recent multi-domain spectral collocation method that has not been fully tested on such systems before. The solutions sets are presented as sets of trajectories in the phase plane. For some supercritical values of the Rayleigh number, spiralling trajectories that transition to chaotic solutions are obtained. Additional results are presented in terms of streamlines and isotherms for various Rayleigh numbers.

This study presents a one-step multi-derivative hybrid block method (OSMDHBM) of order ten, which incorporates third derivatives for the solution of linear and nonlinear second-order initial value problems (IVPs). The derivation incorporates a multi-step collocation and interpolation method, using an approximated power series as the basis function. The intra-step or off-step points are obtained from the derivative of a shifted Legendre polynomial (SLP) of degree four. The accuracy, consistency, and stability properties of the method are analyzed. The nonlinear IVPs are linearized using the modified Picard iteration method (MPIM). In order to demonstrate the superiority of the method, numerical experiments are presented. The main focus of this study is on unsteady Maxwell nanofluid flow over a shrinking surface with convective and slip boundary conditions. The objective is to give an evaluation of the impact and significance of Brownian motion and thermophoresis when the nanofluid particle volume fraction flux at the boundary is zero. The transformed equations are solved numerically using the spectral local linearization method. We present an analysis of the residual errors to show the accuracy and convergence of the spectral local linearization method. We explore the effect of magnetic field and thermophoresis parameters on the heat transfer rate. We show, among other results, that an increase in particle Brownian motion leads to a decrease in the concentration profiles but concentration profiles increase with the increasing value of thermophoresis parameter

An unsteady, laminar, mixed convective stagnation point nanofluid flow through a permeable stretching flat surface using internal heat source or sink and partial slip is investigated. The effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion parameters are revised on the traditional model of nanofluid for which nanofluid particle volume fraction is passively controlled on the boundary. Spectral relaxation method is applied here to solve the non-dimensional conservation equations. The results show the illustration of the impact of skin friction coefficient, different physical parameters, and the heat transfer rate. The nanofluid motion is enhanced with increase in the value of the internal heat sink or source. On the other hand, the rate of heat transfer on the stretching sheet and the skin friction coefficient are reduced by an increase in internal heat generation. This study further shows that the velocity slip increases with decrease in the rate of heat transfer. The outcome results are benchmarked with previously published results.
