Conventional medical image segmentation methods have been found inadequate in facilitating physicians with the identification of specific lesions for diagnosis and treatment. Given the utility of text as an instructional format, we introduce a novel task termed Medical Image Referring Segmentation (MIRS), which requires segmenting specified lesions in images based on the given language expressions. Due to the varying object scales in medical images, MIRS demands robust vision-language modeling and comprehensive multi-scale interaction for precise localization and segmentation under linguistic guidance. However, existing medical image segmentation methods fall short in meeting these demands, resulting in insufficient segmentation accuracy. In response, we propose an approach named Language-guided Scale-aware MedSegmentor (LSMS), incorporating two appealing designs: (1)~a Scale-aware Vision-Language Attention module that leverages diverse convolutional kernels to acquire rich visual knowledge and interact closely with linguistic features, thereby enhancing lesion localization capability; (2)~a Full-Scale Decoder that globally models multi-modal features across various scales, capturing complementary information between scales to accurately outline lesion boundaries. Addressing the lack of suitable datasets for MIRS, we constructed a vision-language medical dataset called Reference Hepatic Lesion Segmentation (RefHL-Seg). This dataset comprises 2,283 abdominal CT slices from 231 cases, with corresponding textual annotations and segmentation masks for various liver lesions in images. We validated the performance of LSMS for MIRS and conventional medical image segmentation tasks across various datasets. Estimating spatially distributed information through the interpolation of scattered observation datasets often overlooks the critical role of domain knowledge in understanding spatial dependencies. Additionally, the features of these data sets are typically limited to the spatial coordinates of the scattered observation locations. In this paper, we propose a hybrid framework that integrates data-driven spatial dependency feature extraction with rule-assisted spatial dependency function mapping to augment domain knowledge. We demonstrate the superior performance of our framework in two comparative application scenarios, highlighting its ability to capture more localized spatial features in the reconstructed distribution fields. Furthermore, we underscore its potential to enhance nonlinear estimation capabilities through the application of transformed fuzzy rules and to quantify the inherent uncertainties associated with the observation data sets. Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) are programmable metasurfaces utilizing sub-wavelength meta-atoms and a controller for precise electromagnetic wave manipulation. This work introduces an innovative channel coding scheme, termed RIS-based diffractional channel coding (DCC), which capitalizes on diffraction between two RIS layers for signal-level encoding. Contrary to traditional methods, DCC expands signal dimensions through diffraction, presenting a novel countermeasure to channel effects. This paper focuses on the operational principles of DCC, including encoder and decoder designs, and explores its possibilities to construct block and trellis codes, demonstrating its potential as both an alternative and a supplementary conventional coding scheme. Generative models hold the promise of significantly expediting the materials design process when compared to traditional human-guided or rule-based methodologies. However, effectively generating high-quality periodic structures of materials on limited but diverse datasets remains an ongoing challenge. Here we propose a novel approach for periodic structure generation which fully respect the intrinsic symmetries, periodicity, and invariances of the structure space. Namely, we utilize differentiable, physics-based, structural descriptors which can describe periodic systems and satisfy the necessary invariances, in conjunction with a denoising diffusion model which generates new materials within this descriptor or representation space. Reconstruction is then performed on these representations using gradient-based optimization to recover the corresponding Cartesian positions of the crystal structure. This approach differs significantly from current methods by generating materials in the representation space, rather than in the Cartesian space, which is made possible using an efficient reconstruction algorithm. Consequently, known issues with respecting periodic boundaries and translational and rotational invariances during generation can be avoided, and the model training process can be greatly simplified. We show this approach is able to provide competitive performance on established benchmarks compared to current state-of-the-art methods.

In a Fermi system near or at half-filling, a specific superconducting pairing channel, if not explicitly included in the Hamiltonian, can be boosted by suppressing a competing pairing channel; this is exemplified by the enhancement of extended $s$-wave correlations upon suppressing $s$-wave Cooper pairing. This phenomenon, originally found by the use of generalized uncertainty relations is referred to as \emph{order by projection}. The case of zero on-site Coulomb interaction in the thermodynamic limit, confirms this mechanism through the analytical solution. In this study, we go further and systematically investigate this mechanism for a strongly correlated fermionic Hubbard model, now with finite on-site interaction, on a square lattice with an extended set of hopping parameters. We explore the behaviors of different pairing channels when one of them is suppressed, utilizing density matrix renormalization group calculations. Our findings provide numerical evidence supporting the existence of \emph{order by projection} in the strongly correlated system we studied. We also investigate the effect of the strength of Hubbard $U$, next-nearest neighbor $t'$, hole-doping, as well as finite-size scaling approaching the thermodynamic limit.

Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) presents a promising avenue for optimizing Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) dispatch in distribution networks. This paper introduces RL-ADN, an innovative open-source library specifically designed for solving the optimal ESSs dispatch in active distribution networks. RL-ADN offers unparalleled flexibility in modeling distribution networks, and ESSs, accommodating a wide range of research goals. A standout feature of RL-ADN is its data augmentation module, based on Gaussian Mixture Model and Copula (GMC) functions, which elevates the performance ceiling of DRL agents. Additionally, RL-ADN incorporates the Laurent power flow solver, significantly reducing the computational burden of power flow calculations during training without sacrificing accuracy. The effectiveness of RL-ADN is demonstrated using in different sizes of distribution networks, showing marked performance improvements in the adaptability of DRL algorithms for ESS dispatch tasks. This enhancement is particularly beneficial from the increased diversity of training scenarios. Furthermore, RL-ADN achieves a tenfold increase in computational efficiency during training, making it highly suitable for large-scale network applications. The library sets a new benchmark in DRL-based ESSs dispatch in distribution networks and it is poised to advance DRL applications in distribution network operations significantly. The task of multi-label image classification involves recognizing multiple objects within a single image. Considering both valuable semantic information contained in the labels and essential visual features presented in the image, tight visual-linguistic interactions play a vital role in improving classification performance. Moreover, given the potential variance in object size and appearance within a single image, attention to features of different scales can help to discover possible objects in the image. Recently, Transformer-based methods have achieved great success in multi-label image classification by leveraging the advantage of modeling long-range dependencies, but they have several limitations. Firstly, existing methods treat visual feature extraction and cross-modal fusion as separate steps, resulting in insufficient visual-linguistic alignment in the joint semantic space. Additionally, they only extract visual features and perform cross-modal fusion at a single scale, neglecting objects with different characteristics. To address these issues, we propose a Hierarchical Scale-Aware Vision-Language Transformer (HSVLT) with two appealing designs: (1)~A hierarchical multi-scale architecture that involves a Cross-Scale Aggregation module, which leverages joint multi-modal features extracted from multiple scales to recognize objects of varying sizes and appearances in images. (2)~Interactive Visual-Linguistic Attention, a novel attention mechanism module that tightly integrates cross-modal interaction, enabling the joint updating of visual, linguistic and multi-modal features. We have evaluated our method on three benchmark datasets. Implicit Neural Representation (INR) has gained increasing popularity as a data representation method, serving as a prerequisite for innovative generation models. Unlike gradient-based methods, which exhibit lower efficiency in inference, the adoption of hyper-network for generating parameters in Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP), responsible for executing INR functions, has surfaced as a promising and efficient alternative. However, as a global continuous function, MLP is challenging in modeling highly discontinuous signals, resulting in slow convergence during the training phase and inaccurate reconstruction performance. Moreover, MLP requires massive representation parameters, which implies inefficiencies in data representation. In this paper, we propose a novel Attention-based Localized INR (ANR) composed of a localized attention layer (LAL) and a global MLP that integrates coordinate features with data features and converts them to meaningful outputs. Subsequently, we design an instance representation framework that delivers a transformer-like hyper-network to represent data instances as a compact representation vector. With instance-specific representation vector and instance-agnostic ANR parameters, the target signals are well reconstructed as a continuous function. We further address aliasing artifacts with variational coordinates when obtaining the super-resolution inference results. Extensive experimentation across four datasets showcases the notable efficacy of our ANR method, e.g. enhancing the PSNR value from 37.95dB to 47.25dB on the CelebA dataset. The shift from professionally generated content (PGC) to user-generated content (UGC) has revolutionized various media formats, from text to video. With the rapid advancements in generative AI, a similar shift is set to transform the game industry, particularly in the realm of role-playing games (RPGs). This paper introduces a new framework for a text-to-game engine that utilizes foundation models to convert simple textual inputs into complex, interactive RPG experiences. The engine dynamically renders the game story in a multi-modal format and adjusts the game character, environment, and mechanics in real-time in response to player actions. Using this framework, we developed the "Zagii" game engine, which has successfully supported hundreds of RPG games across a diverse range of genres and facilitated tens of thousands of online user gameplay instances. This validates the effectiveness of our frame-work. In pharmaceutical research, the strategy of drug repurposing accelerates the development of new therapies while reducing R&D costs. Network pharmacology lays the theoretical groundwork for identifying new drug indications, and deep graph models have become essential for their precision in mapping complex biological networks. Our study introduces an advanced graph model that utilizes graph convolutional networks and tensor decomposition to effectively predict signed chemical-gene interactions. This model demonstrates superior predictive performance, especially in handling the polar relations in biological networks. Our research opens new avenues for drug discovery and repurposing, especially in understanding the mechanism of actions of drugs.

Discovering new materials can have significant scientific and technological implications but remains a challenging problem today due to the enormity of the chemical space. Recent advances in machine learning have enabled data-driven methods to rapidly screen or generate promising materials, but these methods still depend heavily on very large quantities of training data and often lack the flexibility and chemical understanding often desired in materials discovery. We introduce LLMatDesign, a novel language-based framework for interpretable materials design powered by large language models (LLMs). LLMatDesign utilizes LLM agents to translate human instructions, apply modifications to materials, and evaluate outcomes using provided tools. By incorporating self-reflection on its previous decisions, LLMatDesign adapts rapidly to new tasks and conditions in a zero-shot manner. A systematic evaluation of LLMatDesign on several materials design tasks, in silico, validates LLMatDesign's effectiveness in developing new materials with user-defined target properties in the small data regime. Our framework demonstrates the remarkable potential of autonomous LLM-guided materials discovery in the computational setting and towards self-driving laboratories in the future.

Recognizing relations between two words is a fundamental task with the broad applications. Different from extracting relations from text, it is difficult to identify relations among words without their contexts. Especially for long-tail relations, it becomes more difficult due to inadequate semantic features. Existing approaches based on language models (LMs) utilize rich knowledge of LMs to enhance the semantic features of relations. However, they capture uncommon relations while overlooking less frequent but meaningful ones since knowledge of LMs seriously relies on trained data where often represents common relations. On the other hand, long-tail relations are often uncommon in training data. It is interesting but not trivial to use external knowledge to enrich LMs due to collecting corpus containing long-tail relationships is hardly feasible. In this paper, we propose a sememe knowledge enhanced method (SememeLM) to enhance the representation of long-tail relations, in which sememes can break the contextual constraints between wors. Firstly, we present a sememe relation graph and propose a graph encoding method. Moreover, since external knowledge base possibly consisting of massive irrelevant knowledge, the noise is introduced. We propose a consistency alignment module, which aligns the introduced knowledge with LMs, reduces the noise and integrates the knowledge into the language model. Finally, we conducted experiments on word analogy datasets, which evaluates the ability to distinguish relation representations subtle differences, including long-tail relations. Extensive experiments show that our approach outperforms some state-of-the-art methods.

Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN)-based congestion control schemes have been widely adopted in high-speed data center networks (DCNs), where the ECN marking threshold plays a determinant role in guaranteeing a packet lossless DCN. However, existing approaches either employ static settings with immutable thresholds that cannot be dynamically self-adjusted to adapt to network dynamics, or fail to take into account many-to-one traffic patterns and different requirements of different types of traffic, resulting in relatively poor performance. To address these problems, this paper proposes a novel learning-based automatic ECN tuning scheme, named PET, based on the multi-agent Independent Proximal Policy Optimization (IPPO) algorithm. PET dynamically adjusts ECN thresholds by fully considering pivotal congestion-contributing factors, including queue length, output data rate, output rate of ECN-marked packets, current ECN threshold, the extent of incast, and the ratio of mice and elephant flows. PET adopts the Decentralized Training and Decentralized Execution (DTDE) paradigm and combines offline and online training to accommodate network dynamics. PET is also fair and readily deployable with commodity hardware. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that, compared with state-of-the-art static schemes and the learning-based automatic scheme, our PET achieves better performance in terms of flow completion time, convergence rate, queue length variance, and system robustness.

Emotion recognition aims to discern the emotional state of subjects within an image, relying on subject-centric and contextual visual cues. Current approaches typically follow a two-stage pipeline: first localize subjects by off-the-shelf detectors, then perform emotion classification through the late fusion of subject and context features. However, the complicated paradigm suffers from disjoint training stages and limited interaction between fine-grained subject-context elements. To address the challenge, we present a single-stage emotion recognition approach, employing a Decoupled Subject-Context Transformer (DSCT), for simultaneous subject localization and emotion classification. Rather than compartmentalizing training stages, we jointly leverage box and emotion signals as supervision to enrich subject-centric feature learning. Furthermore, we introduce DSCT to facilitate interactions between fine-grained subject-context cues in a decouple-then-fuse manner. The decoupled query token--subject queries and context queries--gradually intertwine across layers within DSCT, during which spatial and semantic relations are exploited and aggregated. We evaluate our single-stage framework on two widely used context-aware emotion recognition datasets, CAER-S and EMOTIC. Our approach surpasses two-stage alternatives with fewer parameter numbers, achieving a 3.39% accuracy improvement and a 6.46% average precision gain on CAER-S and EMOTIC datasets, respectively.

Correlation Clustering is a classic clustering objective arising in numerous machine learning and data mining applications. Given a graph $G=(V,E)$, the goal is to partition the vertex set into clusters so as to minimize the number of edges between clusters plus the number of edges missing within clusters. The problem is APX-hard and the best known polynomial time approximation factor is 1.73 by Cohen-Addad, Lee, Li, and Newman [FOCS'23]. They use an LP with $|V|^{1/\epsilon^{\Theta(1)}}$ variables for some small $\epsilon$. However, due to the practical relevance of correlation clustering, there has also been great interest in getting more efficient sequential and parallel algorithms. The classic combinatorial \emph{pivot} algorithm of Ailon, Charikar and Newman [JACM'08] provides a 3-approximation in linear time. Like most other algorithms discussed here, this uses randomization. Recently, Behnezhad, Charikar, Ma and Tan [FOCS'22] presented a $3+\epsilon$-approximate solution for solving problem in a constant number of rounds in the Massively Parallel Computation (MPC) setting. Very recently, Cao, Huang, Su [SODA'24] provided a 2.4-approximation in a polylogarithmic number of rounds in the MPC model and in $\tilde{O} (|E|^{1.5})$ time in the classic sequential setting. They asked whether it is possible to get a better than 3-approximation in near-linear time? We resolve this problem with an efficient combinatorial algorithm providing a drastically better approximation factor. It achieves a $\sim 2-2/13 < 1.847$-approximation in sub-linear ($\tilde O(|V|)$) sequential time or in sub-linear ($\tilde O(|V|)$) space in the streaming setting. In the MPC model, we give an algorithm using only a constant number of rounds that achieves a $\sim 2-1/8 < 1.876$-approximation.

Machine learning models have shown exceptional prowess in solving complex issues across various domains. However, these models can sometimes exhibit biased decision-making, resulting in unequal treatment of different groups. Despite substantial research on counterfactual fairness, methods to reduce the impact of multivariate and continuous sensitive variables on decision-making outcomes are still underdeveloped. We propose a novel data pre-processing algorithm, Orthogonal to Bias (OB), which is designed to eliminate the influence of a group of continuous sensitive variables, thus promoting counterfactual fairness in machine learning applications. Our approach, based on the assumption of a jointly normal distribution within a structural causal model (SCM), demonstrates that counterfactual fairness can be achieved by ensuring the data is orthogonal to the observed sensitive variables. The OB algorithm is model-agnostic, making it applicable to a wide range of machine learning models and tasks. Additionally, it includes a sparse variant to improve numerical stability through regularization. Empirical evaluations on both simulated and real-world datasets, encompassing settings with both discrete and continuous sensitive variables, show that our methodology effectively promotes fairer outcomes without compromising accuracy.

Recent methods utilize graph contrastive Learning within graph-structured user-item interaction data for collaborative filtering and have demonstrated their efficacy in recommendation tasks. However, they ignore that the difference relation density of nodes between the user- and item-side causes the adaptability of graphs on bilateral nodes to be different after multi-hop graph interaction calculation, which limits existing models to achieve ideal results. To solve this issue, we propose a novel framework for recommendation tasks called Bilateral Unsymmetrical Graph Contrastive Learning (BusGCL) that consider the bilateral unsymmetry on user-item node relation density for sliced user and item graph reasoning better with bilateral slicing contrastive training. Especially, taking into account the aggregation ability of hypergraph-based graph convolutional network (GCN) in digging implicit similarities is more suitable for user nodes, embeddings generated from three different modules: hypergraph-based GCN, GCN and perturbed GCN, are sliced into two subviews by the user- and item-side respectively, and selectively combined into subview pairs bilaterally based on the characteristics of inter-node relation structure. Furthermore, to align the distribution of user and item embeddings after aggregation, a dispersing loss is leveraged to adjust the mutual distance between all embeddings for maintaining learning ability. Comprehensive experiments on two public datasets have proved the superiority of BusGCL in comparison to various recommendation methods. Other models can simply utilize our bilateral slicing contrastive learning to enhance recommending performance without incurring extra expenses.

The Kitaev interaction, found in candidate materials such as $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$, occurs through the metal ($M$)-ligand ($X$)-metal ($M$) paths of the edge-sharing octahedra because the large spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the metal atoms activates directional spin interactions. Here, we show that even in $3d$ transition-metal compounds, where the SOC of the metal atom is negligible, heavy ligands can induce bond-dependent Kitaev interactions. In this work, we take as an example the $3d$ transition-metal chalcogenophosphate NiPSe$_3$ and show that the key is found in the presence of a sizable SOC on the Se $p$ orbital, one which mediates the super-exchange between the nearest-neighbor Ni sites. Submesoscale processes, with spatio-temporal scales of O(0.01-10) km and hours to 1 day which are hardly resolved by current ocean models, are important sub-grid processes in ocean models. Due to the strong vertical currents, submesoscale processes can lead to submesoscale vertical heat flux (SVHF) in the upper ocean which plays a crucial role in the heat exchange between the atmosphere and the ocean interior, and further modulates the global heat redistribution. At present, simulating a submesoscale-resolving ocean model is still expensive and time-consuming. Parameterizing SVHF becomes a feasible alternative by introducing it into coarse-resolution models. Traditionally, researchers tend to parameterize SVHF by a mathematically fitted relationship based on one or two key background state variables, which fail to represent the relationship between SVHF and the background state variables comprehensively. In this study, we propose a data-driven SVHF parameterization scheme based on a deep neural network and implement it into the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). In offline tests, our scheme can accurately calculate SVHF using mesoscale-averaged variables and characterize how it varies with depth. In online tests, we simulate an idealized model of an anticyclonic mesoscale eddy and a realistic model of the Gulf Stream, respectively. Compared to the coarse-resolution cases without the SVHF effect, the coarse-resolution cases with the SVHF scheme tend to reproduce results closer to the high-resolution case and the observational state in terms of the temperature structure and mixed layer depth, indicating a good performance of the neural network-based SVHF scheme. Our results show the potential of applying the neural network in parameterizing sub-grid processes in ocean models.

Machine learning has emerged as a powerful tool for scientific discovery, enabling researchers to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets. For instance, it has facilitated the identification of disease-predictive genes from gene expression data, significantly advancing healthcare. However, the traditional process for analyzing such datasets demands substantial human effort and expertise for the data selection, processing, and analysis. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel framework, a Team of AI-made Scientists (TAIS), designed to streamline the scientific discovery pipeline. TAIS comprises simulated roles, including a project manager, data engineer, and domain expert, each represented by a Large Language Model (LLM). These roles collaborate to replicate the tasks typically performed by data scientists, with a specific focus on identifying disease-predictive genes. Furthermore, we have curated a benchmark dataset to assess TAIS's effectiveness in gene identification, demonstrating our system's potential to significantly enhance the efficiency and scope of scientific exploration. Medical Image Analysis (MedIA) has emerged as a crucial tool in computer-aided diagnosis systems, particularly with the advancement of deep learning (DL) in recent years. However, well-trained deep models often experience significant performance degradation when deployed in different medical sites, modalities, and sequences, known as a domain shift issue. In light of this, Domain Generalization (DG) for MedIA aims to address the domain shift challenge by generalizing effectively and performing robustly across unknown data distributions. This paper presents the a comprehensive review of substantial developments in this area. First, we provide a formal definition of domain shift and domain generalization in medical field, and discuss several related settings. Subsequently, we summarize the recent methods from three viewpoints: data manipulation level, feature representation level, and model training level, and present some algorithms in detail for each viewpoints. Furthermore, we introduce the commonly used datasets. Finally, we summarize existing literature and present some potential research topics for the future. Foundation models have indeed made a profound impact on various fields, emerging as pivotal components that significantly shape the capabilities of intelligent systems. In the context of intelligent vehicles, leveraging the power of foundation models has proven to be transformative, offering notable advancements in visual understanding. Equipped with multi-modal and multi-task learning capabilities, multi-modal multi-task visual understanding foundation models (MM-VUFMs) effectively process and fuse data from diverse modalities and simultaneously handle various driving-related tasks with powerful adaptability, contributing to a more holistic understanding of the surrounding scene. In this survey, we present a systematic analysis of MM-VUFMs specifically designed for road scenes. Our objective is not only to provide a comprehensive overview of common practices, referring to task-specific models, unified multi-modal models, unified multi-task models, and foundation model prompting techniques, but also to highlight their advanced capabilities in diverse learning paradigms. These paradigms include open-world understanding, efficient transfer for road scenes, continual learning, interactive and generative capability. Moreover, we provide insights into key challenges and future trends, such as closed-loop driving systems, interpretability, embodied driving agents, and world models. Data protection legislation like the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) establishes the \textit{right to be forgotten}: a user (client) can request contributions made using their data to be removed from learned models. In this paper, we study how to remove the contributions made by a client participating in a Federated Online Learning to Rank (FOLTR) system. In a FOLTR system, a ranker is learned by aggregating local updates to the global ranking model. Local updates are learned in an online manner at a client-level using queries and implicit interactions that have occurred within that specific client. By doing so, each client's local data is not shared with other clients or with a centralised search service, while at the same time clients can benefit from an effective global ranking model learned from contributions of each client in the federation. In this paper, we study an effective and efficient unlearning method that can remove a client's contribution without compromising the overall ranker effectiveness and without needing to retrain the global ranker from scratch. A key challenge is how to measure whether the model has unlearned the contributions from the client $c^*$ that has requested removal. For this, we instruct $c^*$ to perform a poisoning attack (add noise to this client updates) and then we measure whether the impact of the attack is lessened when the unlearning process has taken place. The advancement of Spatial Transcriptomics (ST) has facilitated the spatially-aware profiling of gene expressions based on histopathology images. Although ST data offers valuable insights into the micro-environment of tumors, its acquisition cost remains expensive. Therefore, directly predicting the ST expressions from digital pathology images is desired. Current methods usually adopt existing regression backbones for this task, which ignore the inherent multi-scale hierarchical data structure of digital pathology images. To address this limit, we propose M2ORT, a many-to-one regression Transformer that can accommodate the hierarchical structure of the pathology images through a decoupled multi-scale feature extractor. Different from traditional models that are trained with one-to-one image-label pairs, M2ORT accepts multiple pathology images of different magnifications at a time to jointly predict the gene expressions at their corresponding common ST spot, aiming at learning a many-to-one relationship through training. We have tested M2ORT on three public ST datasets and the experimental results show that M2ORT can achieve state-of-the-art performance with fewer parameters and floating-point operations (FLOPs). Chirp signals have established diverse applications caused by the capable of producing time-dependent linear frequencies. Most feature extraction transformation methods for chirp signals focus on enhancing the performance of transform methods but neglecting the information derived from the transformation process. Consequently, they may fail to fully exploit the information from observations, resulting in decreased performance under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratio and limited observations. In this work, we develop a novel post-processing method called mapping information model to addressing this challenge. The model establishes a link between the observation space and feature space in feature extraction transform, enabling interference suppression and obtain more accurate information by iteratively resampling and assigning weights in both spaces. Analysis of the iteration process reveals a continual increase in weight of signal samples and a gradual stability in weight of noise samples. The demonstration of the noise suppression in the iteration process and feature enhancement supports the effectiveness of the mapping information model. Furthermore, numerical simulations also affirm the high efficiency of the proposed model by showcasing enhanced signal detection and estimation performances without requiring additional observations. This superior model allows amplifying performance within feature extraction transformation for chirp signal processing under low SNR and limited observation conditions, opens up new opportunities for areas such as communication, biomedicine, and remote sensing., Comment: 14 pages,10 figures

Here, using low-temperature optical scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we investigate inelastic light scattering (ILS) in the vicinity of a single-atom quantum point contact (QPC). A vibration mode localized at the single Ag adatom on the Ag(111) surface is resolved in the ILS spectrum, resulting from tip-enhanced Raman scattering (TERS) by the atomically-confined plasmonic field in the STM junction. Furthermore, we trace how TERS from the single adatom evolves as a function of the gap distance. The exceptional stability of the low-temperature STM allows to examine distinctly different electron transport regimes of the picocavity, namely in the tunneling and quantum point contact (QPC) regimes. This measurement shows that the vibration mode localized at the adatom and its TERS intensity exhibits a sharp change upon the QPC formation, indicating that the atomic-level structure has a crucial impact on the plasmonic properties. To gain microscopic insights into picocavity optomechanics, we scrutinize the structure and plasmonic field in the STM junction using time-dependent density functional theory. The simulations reveal that atomic-scale structural relaxation at the single-atom QPC results in a discrete change of the plasmonic field strength, volume, and distribution as well as the vibration mode localized at the single atom. These findings give a qualitative explanation for the experimental observations. Furthermore, we demonstrate that strong ILS is a characteristic feature of QPC by continuously forming, breaking, and reforming the atomic contact, and how the plasmonic resonance evolves throughout the non-tunneling, tunneling, and QPC regimes., Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures

Semantic communication has gained significant attention recently due to its advantages in achieving higher transmission efficiency by focusing on semantic information instead of bit-level information. However, current AI-based semantic communication methods require digital hardware for implementation. With the rapid advancement on reconfigurable intelligence surfaces (RISs), a new approach called on-the-air diffractional deep neural networks (D$^2$NN) can be utilized to enable semantic communications on the wave domain. This paper proposes a new paradigm of RIS-based on-the-air semantic communications, where the computational process occurs inherently as wireless signals pass through RISs. We present the system model and discuss the data and control flows of this scheme, followed by a performance analysis using image transmission as an example. Large language models (LLMs) have shown impressive capabilities across various natural language tasks. However, evaluating their alignment with human preferences remains a challenge. To this end, we propose a comprehensive human evaluation framework to assess LLMs' proficiency in following instructions on diverse real-world tasks. We construct a hierarchical task tree encompassing 7 major areas covering over 200 categories and over 800 tasks, which covers diverse capabilities such as question answering, reasoning, multiturn dialogue, and text generation, to evaluate LLMs in a comprehensive and in-depth manner. We also design detailed evaluation standards and processes to facilitate consistent, unbiased judgments from human evaluators. A test set of over 3,000 instances is released, spanning different difficulty levels and knowledge domains. Our work provides a standardized methodology to evaluate human alignment in LLMs for both English and Chinese. We also analyze the feasibility of automating parts of evaluation with a strong LLM (GPT-4). Our framework supports a thorough assessment of LLMs as they are integrated into real-world applications. We have made publicly available the task tree, TencentLLMEval dataset, and evaluation methodology which have been demonstrated as effective in assessing the performance of Tencent Hunyuan LLMs. By doing so, we aim to facilitate the benchmarking of advances in the development of safe and human-aligned LLMs.

Cloth-Changing Person Re-Identification (CC-ReID) is a common and realistic problem since fashion constantly changes over time and people's aesthetic preferences are not set in stone. While most existing cloth-changing ReID methods focus on learning cloth-agnostic identity representations from coarse semantic cues (e.g. silhouettes and part segmentation maps), they neglect the continuous shape distributions at the pixel level. In this paper, we propose Continuous Surface Correspondence Learning (CSCL), a new shape embedding paradigm for cloth-changing ReID. CSCL establishes continuous correspondences between a 2D image plane and a canonical 3D body surface via pixel-to-vertex classification, which naturally aligns a person image to the surface of a 3D human model and simultaneously obtains pixel-wise surface embeddings. We further extract fine-grained shape features from the learned surface embeddings and then integrate them with global RGB features via a carefully designed cross-modality fusion module. The shape embedding paradigm based on 2D-3D correspondences remarkably enhances the model's global understanding of human body shape. To promote the study of ReID under clothing change, we construct 3D Dense Persons (DP3D), which is the first large-scale cloth-changing ReID dataset that provides densely annotated 2D-3D correspondences and a precise 3D mesh for each person image, while containing diverse cloth-changing cases over all four seasons. A persistent challenge to table question answering (TableQA) by generating executable programs has been adapting to varied table structures, typically requiring domain-specific logical forms. In response, this paper introduces a unified TableQA framework that: (1) provides a unified representation for structured tables as multi-index Pandas data frames, (2) uses Python as a powerful querying language, and (3) uses few-shot prompting to translate NL questions into Python programs, which are executable on Pandas data frames. Furthermore, to answer complex relational questions with extended program functionality and external knowledge, our framework allows customized APIs that Python programs can call. We experiment with four TableQA datasets that involve tables of different structures -- relational, multi-table, and hierarchical matrix shapes -- and achieve prominent improvements over past state-of-the-art systems.
