Background/Aim: The prognosis of a cancer patient is influenced by the tumor-related factors, as well as by various patient-related factors. We evaluated the association between inflammatory and nutritional factors and their outcomes, including the prognosis and therapeutic course, in patients with metastatic breast cancer. Patients and Methods: In this observational retrospective study, we evaluated 35 patients. The inflammatory and nutritional markers before systemic therapy included the lymphocyte count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), pan-immuno-inflammatory values (PIV), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), and psoas muscle index (PMI). Results: Triple-negative, low PNI, and GPS 2 were correlated with worse overall survival in the univariable analysis. In laparoscopic liver resection, few reports have investigated the influence of type of incision on postoperative pain in laparoscopic liver resection. We therefore conducted the present study to clarify the difference in postoperative pain between two types of incision.Nineteen patients who underwent laparoscopic lateral sectionectomy were enrolled. In 11 patients with a transumbilical incision and eight with a suprapubic incision, the operation duration, blood loss, length of incision, duration of intravenous fentanyl infusion immediately after surgery and rescue dosage, and period of regular oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were evaluated.There was no significant difference between the two groups in patients' background characteristics, operation time, or amount of blood loss. The length of suprapubic incision was significantly longer than the umbilical incision. Concerning the postoperative pain management, the duration of intravenous fentanyl administration was 1 day (1-2 days) for umbilical incisions and 1.5 days (1-2 days) for suprapubic incisions, showing no significant difference. Regarding the rescue dosage of fentanyl, the results were comparable between the groups. Regarding the postoperative duration of regular nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration, there was also no significant difference between the groups (transumbilical: 14 [5-35] days vs suprapubic: 8 [7-32]).Postoperative pain is comparable between umbilical and suprapubic incision in patients who underwent laparoscopic left lateral segmentectomy. In terms of postoperative pain, either a transumbilical incision or a suprapubic incision can be selected for specimen extraction.

Human chemically induced liver progenitors (hCLiP) induced by small molecules produced by mature hepatocytes can potentially overcome issues related to hepatocyte transplantation, such as graft rejection or donor shortage. However, to our knowledge, no studies have explored the induction of hCLiP from mature hepatocytes (MHs) in damaged liver, indicated for liver transplantation.Liver tissues were collected from surgically resected livers, including damaged livers, of 86 patients at our department, and hepatocytes were isolated using the collagenase perfusion method. Hepatocytes isolated from 33 of these 86 donors were cultured in YAC medium containing Y-27632 (ROCK inhibitor), A-83-01 (TGF-β type I receptor inhibitor), and CHIR99021 (GSK-3 inhibitor) to induce hCLiP, and their functions were assessed.Hepatocytes were isolated regardless of the liver fibrosis classifications (viability: F0,1: 87.2 ± 13.2%; F2,3: 87.8 ± 13.1%; and F4: 86.3 ± 4.2%). Most hepatocytes cultured in the YAC medium acquired the liver progenitor cell (LPC) gene. The expression of MH markers (ALB, HNF4α, G6PC, and CYP1A2) was lower in hCLiP than in MHs before reprogramming. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction revealed that hCLiP markers (e.g., EpCAM, SOX9, CK19, and CD133) exhibited higher expression in LPCs than in MHs. Furthermore, hCLiPs had the ability to differentiate into hepatocytes, and were engrafted on the liver surface as mature hepatocytes.Hepatocytes could be isolated from damaged liver. Furthermore, hCLiP may be obtained from hepatocytes isolated from damaged liver and may differentiate into MHs in vitro. Autologous hCLiP can potentially be transplanted without tumorigenesis and remodel damaged liver.

In tennis, the service is the only shot that a player can give himself without being influenced by his opponent, and it is said to be the most powerful and essential shot in the game to win the game (Kovacs and Ellenbecker, 2011). In this study, we will investigate the difference in speed and spin rate in services when a service is entered, when it is not entered, and when an ace is taken. Fourteen three-set singles matches of 20 participants in the ATP Challenger tournament were included in the analysis. The speed and spin rate was measured using the Trackman. The analysis included 1343 1st service balls. We compared the speed and spin rate for each IN, FAULT and ACE in the 1st service using one-way ANOVA. The speed of the 1st service, IN was significantly slower than that of FAULT and ACE. The spin rate of the 1st serve, IN had significantly more revolutions than the FAULT and ACE. The results of this study showed that the service was faster and lower spin rate when ACE was taken. However, it was found that the faster the speed of the service and the lower the spin rate, the higher the rate of FAULT. These considerations suggest that it is important to decide whether to take risks or play it safe, depending on the game situation at the time.

In recent years, the attacking tactics of top-level teams have been dominated by a combination of four attackers. The basic approach to defending against this move is to block in the direction of the toss (Read Block System). This study compares and examines the difference between the left and right sides of the crossover step of women's volleyball players using the read block system. Fifteen Japanese college women's volleyball players (age: 20.1±1.1 years, height: 169.3±5.5 cm) were eligible for the study. A time-synchronized 16 camera Mac3D optical motion capture systems (Motion Analysis Co.) and 10 force plates (Tec Gihan Co.) were used to determine three dimensional (3-D) coordinates of 38 retroreflective markers. The players were told that the toss from the setter would go up randomly in one of the left or right direction, and they were asked to block in response to the toss from the centre of the net. The results showed that the performance of the jump height (p = 0.04, d =0.50), maximum block reach (p = 0.01, d =0.51), and motion time (p =0.02, d =0.75) was better than the left, and the effect size was large. Since most of the subjects in this study were right-handed (two of the Opposites were left-handed), it is assumed that they tended to perform better on the left side, which is a block stepping similar to spike stepping. However, some players may not use the spiking hand, so individualized instruction is required.

A crystallochemical framework is proposed based on electronegativity difference (en) and\ud tolerance factor (t) to optimise the BiMeO3 dopants and therefore the piezoelectric and\ud electrostrictive response in BaTiO3-BiFeO3 based ceramics. Compositions in the series\ud 0.05Bi(Me)O3-0.25BaTiO3-0.7BiFeO3 (BMe-BT-BF, Me: Y, Sc1/2Y1/2, Mg2/3Nb1/3, Sc,\ud Zn2/3Nb1/3, Zn1/2Ti1/2, Ga, and Al) were fabricated using solid state synthesis and furnace\ud cooled. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction revealed that only\ud Bi(Mg2/3Nb1/3)O3 and BiScO3 dopants, which lie in a narrow range of en vs. t, form\ud homogeneous ceramics, free from secondary phases reflected in their superior\ud piezoelectric coefficients (d33 ~145 pC/N). All other BiMeO3 additions exhibited either\ud secondary phases (Y) and/or promoted a two-phase perovskite matrix (Zn, Ga and Al).\ud The promising initial properties of BiScO3 doped compositions prompted further studies\ud on 0.05BiScO3-(0.95-x)BaTiO3-(x)BiFeO3 (BS-BT-BF, x = 0.55, 0.60, 0.625, 0.65, and\ud 0.70) ceramics. As x increased the structure changed from predominantly pseudocubic to\ud rhombohedral, resulting in a transition from a relaxor-like to ferroelectric response. The\ud largest d33\ud * (465 pm/V) was achieved for x = 0.625 under 5 kV/mm at the crossover from\ud relaxor to ferroelectric behaviour. BS-BT-BF with x = 0.625 showed >0.3% strain under\ud 6 kV/mm up to 175ºC, demonstrating its potential for actuator applications.

The relationship between the piezoelectric properties and the structure/microstructure for 0.05Bi(Mg2/3Nb1/3)O3-(0.95-x)BaTiO3-xBiFeO3 (BBFT, x = 0.55, 0.60, 0.63, 0.65, 0.70, and 0.75) ceramics has been investigated. Scanning electron microscopy revealed a homogeneous microstructure for x < 0.75 but there was evidence of a core-shell cation distribution for x = 0.75 which could be suppressed in part through quenching from the sintering temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) suggested a gradual structural transition from pseudocubic to rhombohedral for 0.63

Lead-free ceramics with high recoverable energy density (Wrec) and energy storage efficiency (η) are attractive for advanced pulsed power capacitors to enable greater miniaturization and integration. In this work, dense bismuth ferrite (BF)-based, lead-free 0.75(Bi1−xNdx)FeO3-0.25BaTiO3 (BNxF-BT) ceramics and multilayers were fabricated. A transition from a mixed pseudocubic and R3c to a purely pseudocubic structure was observed as x increased with the optimum properties obtained for mixed compositions. The highest energy densities, W ∼ 4.1 J cm−3 and Wrec ∼ 1.82 J cm−3, were achieved for BN15F-BT, due to the enhanced breakdown field strength (BDS ∼ 180 kV cm−1) and large maximum polarization (Pmax ∼ 40 μC cm−2). The multilayers of this composition possessed both a high Wrec of 6.74 J cm−3 and η of 77% and were stable up to 125 °C. Nd doped BF-based ceramics with enhanced BDS and large Wrec are therefore considered promising candidates for lead-free energy storage applications.

Key Clinical Message There are very few reports of esophageal carcinoma producing granulocyte colony‐stimulating factor (G‐CSF). G‐CSF‐producing esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is an extremely aggressive carcinoma. Leukocyte counts, neutrophil counts, and serum C‐reactive protein levels may be markers of its progression.

High electrostrain and breakdown strength (1 - x)BiFeO3-0.3BaTiO3-xNd(Li0.5Nb0.5)O3 (BF-BT-xNLN) ceramics were studied by in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) in combination with Rietveld refinement and conventional transmission electron microscopy. At zero field, compositions transformed from majority ferroelectric rhombohedral to pseudocubic as the NLN concentration increased, with 0.27% strain achieved at 60 kV cm-1 for x = 0.01. The large measured macroscopic strain was commensurate with peak shifting in XRD peak profiles, yielding 0.6% total strain at 150 kV cm-1. Strain anisotropy of ϵ200 > ϵ220 > ϵ111 was observed but despite the large applied field, no peak splitting was detected. We therefore concluded that the large electrostrain is not achieved through a conventional relaxor to field induced long-range ferroelectric transition. Instead, the data supports a model where local polar regions distort in the direction of the applied field within multiple local symmetries (pseudosymmetry) without long range correlation. We proposed that pseudosymmetry is maintained in BF-BT-xNLN even at high field (150 kV cm-1) due to the large ion radii mismatch and competing ionic/covalent bonding between Ba2+ and Bi3+ ions.

Lead-based electroceramics such as Pb(Zr.Ti)O3 (PZT) and its derivatives have excellent piezoelectric, pyroelectric and energy storage properties and can be used in a wide range of applications. Potential lead-free replacements for PZT such as potassium sodium niobate (KNN) and sodium bismuth titanate (NBT) have a much more limited range of useful properties and have been optimized primarily for piezoelectric applications. Here, we review the initial results on a new generation of lead-free electroceramics based on BiFeO3-BaTiO3 (BF-BT) highlighting the essential crystal chemistry that permits a wide range of functional properties. We demonstrate that with the appropriate dopants and heat treatment, BF-BT can be used to fabricate commercially viable ceramics for applications, ranging from sensors, multilayer actuators, capacitors and high-density energy storage devices. We also assess the potential of BF-BT-based ceramics for electrocaloric and pyroelectric applications.

Dense Bi 0.487 Na 0.427 K 0.06 Ba 0.026 TiO 3 (BNKBT) and Nb-doped Bi 0.487 Na 0.427 K 0.06 Ba 0.026 Ti 0.98 Nb 0.02 O 3 (Nb-BNKBT) ceramics were prepared by the solid state reaction route. BNKBT is a non-ergodic relaxor and exhibits a piezoelectric response typical for a ferroelectric, whereas Nb-BNKBT is an ergodic relaxor and exhibits an electromechanical response typical for an incipient ferroelectric. The incorporation of 2 mol% of Nb into the BNKBT lattice is accompanied by an enhancement of the room-temperature unipolar field-induced strain from 0.19% to 0.43% at 75 kV/cm. BNKBT shows a depolarisation temperature of ∼90 °C, above which an electrostrictive response is observed, whereas Nb-BNKBT shows an electrostrictive response in the entire temperature range studied. At 40 kV/cm, Nb-BNKBT exhibits a temperature stable electromechanical response in comparison with undoped BNKBT, but it worsens under higher electric fields. These results may motivate further investigations on the impact of minor doping and driving electric fields on the electromechanical response of Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 –Bi 0.5 K 0.5 TiO 3 –BaTiO 3 -based ceramics.

The fibrin-related markers are considered to be useful in diagnosing pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombus (DVT). We measured D-dimer (DD) and soluble fibrin monomer complex (SFMC) in these cases, in order to examine the usefulness of these markers.PE patients (P group: 14 cases) and DVT patients (D group : 16 cases) treated in our hospital, were examined. We measured the value of DD and SFMC on the first visit day and the second day. In PE cases, comparative examination of the markers were carried out between dead and survived cases.The value of both markers in P group ware significantly higher compared with D group, on the second day. There was a significant correlation between SFMC and DD in P group, but in D group, significant correlation was not observed.It seems that measuring DD and SFMC is useful to evaluate the pathology of PE and DVT.

TOAST diagnosis is used in acute ischemic stroke. There is no evidence about the relationship between stroke subtypes classified by TOAST diagnosis and prognosis. We investigated prognosis of cardioembolic stroke (CE) and atherothrombotic stroke (AT) after intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), to clarify relationship between stroke subtypes and prognosis. Additionally we investigated acute ischemic stroke with internal carotid artery occlusion as a factor to influence the prognosis.We analyzed 37 patients (22 cardioembolic stroke cases and 15 atherothrombotic stroke cases) with acute ischemic stroke who received intravenous rt-PA within 3 hours after onset. We performed neurologic evaluation using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) on admission, after 24 hours, and at discharge. We evaluated the efficacy of rt-PA on the basis of NIHSS score at 24 hours. We also assessed the prognosis by measuring modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 3 months. We performed classification by presence or absence of internal carotid artery occlusion in 37 cases, examining the prognosis using mRS at 3 months.There was a significant difference in NIHSS on admission between CE and AT, but significant difference was not found in NIHSS at 24 hours, and at discharge. There was also no significant difference in the proportion of effectiveness after rt-PA therapy and mRS at 3 months. The cases with internal carotid artery occlusion were associated with lower mRS score as compared with the cases without occlusion.Stroke subtypes classified by TOAST diagnosis have no relationship with the prognosis. However, internal carotid artery occlusion is a factor associated with unfavorable outcome.

Photocatalytic activity of lanthanide tantalates, LnTaO4 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, and Sm), for water splitting was studied in connection to the effect of Ln 4f levels on the electronic structure. Valence band XPS, UV−vis, and first-principle electronic calculations suggested that the position of Ln 4f levels becomes lowered monotonically across the series of Ln. The empty La 4f level is supposed to be higher than the conduction band edge, whereas the filled 4f levels of the Nd and Sm compounds lie in the valence band. For Ln = Ce and Pr, occupied 4f levels lying within the forbidden gap lead to the lower band gaps (Eg) compared to others. The highest photocatalytic activity was attained by LaTaO4, which solely can decompose water into stoichiometric H2/O2 mixtures. This is largely due to the overlap between Ta 5d and O 2p orbitals, which produces a wide density-of-states distribution in the conduction band. The effects of poling termination and aging process on the piezoelectric properties at room temperature of 1 mol % Mn-doped Ba(Ti0.96Zr0.04)O3 ceramics with orthorhombic structure have been investigated. It is expected that the substitution of accepter Mn into the Ti0.96Zr0.04 site will result in a defect dipole with an oxygen vacancy and generate an internal field (Ed) in 1 mol % Mn-doped Ba(Ti0.96Zr0.04)O3 ceramics. In order to investigate the effect of the rearrangement of defect dipoles on the piezoelectric properties, the following two investigations have been performed. One is on the relationship between the piezoelectric properties and the change in the poling-termination temperature (TP) around the orthorhombic–tetragonal temperature (TOT). The result shows that piezoelectric properties are related to spontaneous polarizations, and that the rearrangement of defect dipoles is small. The other is on the influence of aging treatment at 70 °C for 24 h on the piezoelectric properties. Above TOT, the piezoelectric properties are almost the same, independent of the TP of the specimen. This result suggests that the change in piezoelectric properties is due to a change in the domain in spontaneous polarizations and that the rearrangement of defect dipoles is also small. The result of domain observation reflection electron microscopy supports the rearrangement of spontaneous polarizations during the aging process.
