Experimental research in behavioral economics focuses on consumer behaviors. Similar experimental research on profit-maximizing producers is rare. In three field experiments involving commercial agricultural producers in the United States, we detect evidence of anchoring in competitive auctions for conservation contracts related to nutrient and pest management that were worth, on average, nearly $9,000. In these auctions, the value of the starting cost-share bid was randomized to be either 0% or 100%. When the starting value was 100%, final bids were 46% higher, on average. We find weak evidence that experience with conservation contracts may modestly attenuate the anchoring effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a leading cause of infertility in women. The study examines mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS), copy number, and the association of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variants with PCOS traits. The findings reveal that PCOS patients have decreased mtDNA copy number, mitochondrial membrane potential, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, while exhibiting enhanced levels of mitochondrial ROS. Additionally, the study identifies eight rare mtDNA variants strongly associated with PCOS traits. The research contributes to a better understanding of PCOS pathogenesis and may inform the development of mitochondrial-targeted therapies in the future. [Extracted from the article]

Cranial dural arteriovenous (AV) fistulas are abnormal connections between the branches of dural arteries to dural veins or venous sinuses. They are most frequently located at the transverse sinus and cavernous sinus. They can occur at every cranial dural sinus. Dural AV fistula of falx cerebri is rare. A 62-year-old female presented with signs and symptoms of raised intracranial pressure. Radiological imaging revealed a dural AV fistula at the posterior one-third falx cerebri. She underwent transarterial embolization, and complete obliteration of the fistula was achieved. A detailed digital subtraction angiography study is warranted in patients with seemingly benign complaints like recurrent headaches, and falcine dural AV fistula should be identified and treated in the nick of time. We provide empirical evidence of research practices that can undermine the credibility of empirical research in agricultural economics. We find that, in four popular journals, most studies are underpowered, a characteristic that, when coupled with publication bias, yields unreliable and exaggerated effect sizes. This problem is exacerbated by selective reporting of statistically significant results and multiple hypothesis testing without any adjustments to statistical inferences. Survey respondents self‐report engaging in practices that are consistent with these empirical findings. Addressing these problems in agricultural economics will require that editors, reviewers, and donors change the norms and incentives for authors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
