Abstract The single scattering albedo (SSA) of aerosol particles is one of the key variables that determine aerosol radiative forcing. Herein, an Algorithm for the retrieval of Single scattering albedo over Land (ASL) is proposed for application to full-disk data from the advanced Himawari imager (AHI) sensor flying on board the Himawari-8 satellite. In this algorithm, an atmospheric radiative transfer model known as the USM (the top of the atmosphere reflectance as the sum of Un-scattered, Single-scattered, and Multiple-scattered components) is used to calculate the SSA instead of predetermining the aerosol model; the USM is constrained by the surface bidirectional reflectance distribution function shape and aerosol optical depth (AOD) in the retrieval process. Combining two consecutive observations and a 2 * 2 pixel window, the optimal estimation algorithm is adopted to obtain the optimal solution for the aerosol SSA. These SSA results are evaluated by comparing with aerosol robotic network (AERONET) data. Linear regression shows that SSAASL = 0.60*SSSAERONET + 0.38, with a correlation coefficient (0.7284), mean absolute error (0.0319), mean bias error (0.00324), root mean square error (0.0427), and ~80.11% of the ASL SSA data within an uncertainty of ±0.05 of the AERONET data. A comparison of the ASL SSA products with collocated Himawari-8 SSA products (Version 03, officially released by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), referred to herein as JMA SSA) shows that the accuracy of the ASL SSA is better than that of the JMA SSA products. For the SSA retrieval in large AODs (>0.4), the validation metrics vs. AERONET data are better.

Diabetes represents a widely acknowledged global public health concern. Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) stands as one of the most severe complications of diabetes, its occurrence imposing a substantial economic burden on patients, profoundly impacting their quality of life. Despite the deepening comprehension regarding the pathophysiology and cellular as well as molecular responses of DFU, the current therapeutic arsenal falls short of efficacy, failing to offer a comprehensive remedy for deep-seated chronic wounds and microvascular occlusions. Conventional treatments merely afford symptomatic alleviation or retard the disease's advancement, devoid of the capacity to effectuate further restitution of compromised vasculature and nerves. An escalating body of research underscores the prominence of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) owing to their paracrine attributes and anti-inflammatory prowess, rendering them a focal point in the realm of chronic wound healing. Presently, MSCs have been validated as a highly promising cellular therapeutic approach for DFU, capable of effectuating cellular repair, epithelialization, granulation tissue formation, and neovascularization by means of targeted differentiation, angiogenesis promotion, immunomodulation, and paracrine activities, thereby fostering wound healing. The secretome of MSCs comprises cytokines, growth factors, chemokines, alongside exosomes harboring mRNA, proteins, and microRNAs, possessing immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. The present study provides a systematic exposition on the etiology of DFU and elucidates the intricate molecular mechanisms and diverse functionalities of MSCs in the context of DFU treatment, thereby furnishing pioneering perspectives aimed at harnessing the therapeutic potential of MSCs for DFU management and advancing wound healing processes.

Pyridaben is a broad-spectrum, contact-killing acaricide that can be used to control a variety of harmful food and plant mites. Pyridaben displays cardiotoxicity and liver toxicity toward fish, but the effects on fish embryonic development have not been characterized. We exposed early zebrafish embryos to 20, 30, and 40 μg/L concentrations of pyridaben. The exposure caused developmental abnormalities, including delayed embryonic shield formation, yolk sac resorption, decreases in body length, reduced pigmentation, and delays in hatching. Pyridaben caused a significant increase in the transcription level of the endoderm marker foxa2, but the transcription levels of the ectoderm development marker foxb1a and the mesoderm development marker snaila were not significantly altered. The transcription levels of the genes SOX17 in early embryos were significantly reduced. After exposure to pyridaben, catalase (CAT) activity and glutathione (GSH) content were increased, and cyclin D1, that is involved in early embryonic development, was abnormally expressed. This study shows that pyridaben causes anomalous development in zebrafish embryos by interfering with the cell cycle order of early embryonic development and inducing excessive oxidative stress. Colivelin, an agonist of the STAT3 signaling pathway, acted as a salvage drug to restore the cell cycle order during embryonic development following exposure to pyridaben. Thus, the toxic effects may be caused by pyridaben’s regulation of the STAT3 signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT Aims/Introduction An overrepresentation of epilepsy has been suggested in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). This meta‐analysis was conducted to evaluate if type 1 diabetes is associated with a higher incidence of epilepsy. Materials and Methods Longitudinal observational studies which are relevant to the purpose of the meta‐analysis were screened and obtained by searching PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Random‐effects models were used when significant heterogeneity was observed; otherwise, fixed‐effects models were used. Results Six observational studies involving 10 datasets of 8,001,899 participants were included, with six datasets including children and only one dataset including older people. Among them, 100,414 (1.25%) had type 1 diabetes. During the follow‐up duration of 5.4–15.2 years (mean: 9.5 years), 98,644 cases (1.23%) of epilepsy were observed. Abstract Background Metastasis is the primary cause of recurrence and death in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). LncRNA ACTA2-AS1, a long non-coding RNA, acts as a tumor suppressor in multiple types of human malignancies, while the role of ACTA2-AS1 in PTC metastasis remains unclear. Methods The ACTA2-AS1 expression in PTC tissues was analyzed. The sponged roles of ACTA2-AS1 via miR-4428/KLF9 axis were identified using starBase tool. The function of ACTA2-AS1 in PTC was performed with in vitro and in vivo experiments. The correlation between DNA methylation and mRNA expressions of these gene in the TCGA dataset was explored. Results ACTA2-AS1 expression was downregulated in PTC tissues without metastasis and further decreased in PTC tissues with lymph node metastasis compared with that in normal tissues. Functionally, the overexpression of ACTA2-AS1 inhibited the growth, proliferation, and invasion of PTC cells, whereas its depletion exerted opposite effect. In vivo, ACTA2-AS1 expression inhibited PTC metastasis. Furthermore, ACTA2-AS1 acted as a competing endogenous RNA for miR-4428, thereby positively regulating the expression of miR-4428 target gene, KLF9. Finally, miR-4428 overexpression enhanced invasive potential of PTC cells and significantly weakened the effects of ACTA2-AS1 on promotion and inhibition of KLF9 expression as well as invasive ability of PTC cells, respectively. In the TCGA dataset, the methylation level of ACTA2-AS1 was significantly correlated with its mRNA expression (r = 0.21, p = 2.1 × e−6). Conclusions Our findings demonstrate that ACTA2-AS1 functions as a tumor suppressor in PTC progression at least partly by regulating the miR-4428-dependent expression of KLF9. Graphical abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings currently have limited therapeutic applications because they lack anti-infection, osteoinductivity, and poor mechanical characteristics. On the titanium substrate, electrochemical deposition (ECD) was used to construct the strontium (Sr)-featuring hydroxyapatite (HAp)/graphene oxides (GO)/linezolid (LZ) nanomaterial coated with antibacterial and drug delivery properties. The newly fabricated nanomaterials were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis and morphological features were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. The results reveal multiple nucleation sites for SrHAp/GO/LZ composite coatings due to oxygen-comprising moieties on the 2D surface of GO. It was shown to be favorable for osteoblast proliferation and differentiation. The elastic modulus and hardness of LZ nanocomposite with SrHAp/GO/LZ coatings were increased by 67 % and 121 %, respectively. An initial 5 h burst of LZ release from the SrHAp/GO/LZ coating was followed by 14 h of gradual release, owing to LZ's physical and chemical adsorption. The SrHAp/GO/LZ coating effectively inhibited both S. epidermidis and S. aureus, and the inhibition lasted for three days, as demonstrated by the inhibition zone and colony count assays. When MG-63 cells are coated with SrHAp/GO/LZ composite coating, their adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation greatly improve when coated with pure titanium. A novel surface engineering nanomaterial for treating and preventing osteoporotic bone defects, SrHAp/GO/LZ, was shown to have high mechanical characteristics, superior antibacterial abilities, and osteoinductivity.

Mesenchymal stem cell exosome (MSCs-exo) is a class of products secreted by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that contain various biologically active substances. MSCs-exo is a promising alternative to MSCs due to their lower immunogenicity and lack of ethical constraints. Ginsenoside Rh2 (Rh2) is a hydrolyzed component of the primary active substance of ginsenosides. Rh2 has a variety of pharmacological functions, including anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and antioxidant. Studies have demonstrated that gut microbiota and metabolites are critical in developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, we constructed a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model in rats. We used MSCs-exo combined with Rh2 to treat CIA rats. To observe the effect of MSCs-exo combined with Rh2 on joint inflammation, rat feces were collected for 16 rRNA amplicon sequencing and untargeted metabolomics analysis. The results showed that the arthritis index score and joint swelling of CIA rats treated with MSCs-exo in combination with Rh2 were significantly lower than those of the model and MSCs-exo alone groups. MSCs-exo and Rh2 significantly ameliorated the disturbed gut microbiota in CIA rats. The regulation of Candidatus_Saccharibacteria and Clostridium_XlVb regulation may be the most critical. Rh2 enhanced the therapeutic effect of MSCs-exo compared with the MSCs-exo -alone group. Furthermore, significant changes in gut metabolites were observed in the CIA rat group, and these differentially altered metabolites may act as messengers for host-microbiota interactions. These differential metabolites were enriched into relevant critical metabolic pathways, revealing possible pathways for host-microbiota interactions.

Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases. The current understanding of acne primarily revolves around inflammatory responses, sebum metabolism disorders, aberrant hormone and receptor expression, colonization by Cutibacterium acnes, and abnormal keratinization of follicular sebaceous glands. Although the precise mechanism of action remains incompletely understood, it is plausible that macrophages exert an influence on these pathological features. Macrophages, as a constituent of the human innate immune system, typically manifest distinct phenotypes across various diseases. It has been observed that the polarization of macrophages toward the M1 phenotype plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of acne. In recent years, extensive research on acne has revealed an increasing number of natural remedies exhibiting therapeutic efficacy through the modulation of macrophage polarization. This review investigates the role of cutaneous macrophages, elucidates their potential significance in the pathogenesis of acne, a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disorder, and explores the therapeutic mechanisms of natural plant products targeting macrophages. Despite these insights, the precise role of macrophages in the pathogenesis of acne remains poorly elucidated. Subsequent investigations in this domain will further illuminate the pathogenesis of acne and potentially offer guidance for identifying novel therapeutic targets for this condition.

A key issue in current federated learning research is how to improve the performance of federated learning algorithms by reducing communication overhead and computing costs while ensuring data privacy. This paper proposed an efficient wireless transmission scheme termed the subsampling privacy-enabled RDP wireless transmission system (SS-RDP-WTS), which can reduce the communication and computing overhead in the process of learning but also enhance the privacy protection ability of federated learning. We proved our scheme's convergence and analyzed its privacy guarantee, as well as demoonstrated the performance of our scheme on the Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology database (MNIST) and Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, 10 classes datasets (CIFAR10).

Tungsten and its alloys have a high atomic number, high melting temperature, and high thermal conductivity, which make them fairly appropriate for use in nuclear applications in an extremely harsh radioactive environment. In recent years, there has been growing research interest in using additive manufacturing techniques to produce tungsten components with complex structures. However, the critical bottleneck for tungsten engineering manufacturing is the high melting temperature and high ductile-to-brittle transition temperature. In this study, laser powder bed fusion has been studied to produce bulk pure tungsten. And finite element analysis was used to simulate the temperature and stress field during laser irradiation. The as-printed surface as well as transverse sections were observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy to quantitatively study processing defects. The simulated temperature field suggests small-sized powder is beneficial for homogenous melting and provides guidelines for the selection of laser energy density. The experimental results show that ultra-dense tungsten bulk has been successfully obtained within a volumetric energy density of 200–391 J/mm3. The obtained relative density can be as high as 99.98%. By quantitative analysis of the pores and surface cracks, the relationships of cracks and pores with laser volumetric energy density have been phenomenologically established. The results are beneficial for controlling defects and surface quality in future engineering applications of tungsten components by additive manufacturing.

As one of the most serious hazards in the world, more than 80% of traffic accidents are caused by driver misconduct. The detection of abnormal behavior of drivers is important to improve safety in public transportation. The anomaly measurement is not only determined by objective rules such as laws, but also distinguished due to the biological characteristics. The same driving behavior may present completely opposite judgment results for different categories of drivers. In this paper, we propose a novel detection method that measures the preference path length of drivers for various driving operations via pheromones, and identifies abnormal driving behavior by calculating the cumulative conversion probability of operation switching. An improved ant colony algorithm based on fixed point simplicial theory is proposed to improve the convergence efficiency by optimizing the initial population state. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect abnormal driving behavior and significantly reduce false alarms.

Abstract Background Acute bilateral occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) is a very rare condition, and most cases are accompanied by a poor prognosis. However, mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for bilateral MCA is challenging. Here, we report a case of acute unilateral MCA occlusion with sequential acute occlusion of the bilateral MCA during intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). We urgently performed bilateral MT of the MCA and effective recanalization. Case presentation The patient is a 73-year-old man who complained of a sudden adverse influence on speech and an inability to move his left limb for 2 h. He had a history of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, but had never used any anticoagulants before. Head and neck computed tomography angiography (CTA) showed embolism in the right M1 MCA. During intravenous alteplase thrombolytic therapy, the patient suddenly became unconscious. Cerebral angiography showed occlusion of the M1 segment of the bilateral MCA in the patients. MT of the bilateral MCA was performed using a combination of a stent retriever and an aspiration catheter with mTici 3 revascularization. On the second day, the patient became conscious, although he had remaining symptoms of speech insufficiency and weakness of the left limb. The mRS score was 2 90 days after the operation. Conclusions Acute bilateral occlusion of the M1 segment of the MCA is extremely rare and is accompanied by high morbidity and high mortality. Intravenous alteplase thrombolysis can increase the risk of atrial thrombus shedding in patients with atrial fibrillation, so patients with acute bilateral MCA occlusion in the M1 segment chose direct MT or bridging therapy, which remains controversial, and the sequence of MT remains to be discussed. Nevertheless, early endovascular treatment can decrease the morbidity and mortality of such patients.

It is very essential to resolve the issues of atmospheric ozone (O3) pollution and health impact evaluation with high spatial resolution and accurate near-surface O3 concentration. Nevertheless, the existing remotely sensed O3 products could not meet the demands of high spatial resolution monitoring. For this purpose, this study using surface O3 precursor (the surface nitrogen dioxide concentration and formaldehyde concentration) data developed an improved geographically and temporally weighted regression (IGTWR) method to estimate the surface O3 concentration. This method calculated a generalized distance between sample points in that multidimensional space constructed using the longitude, latitude, day, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Next, the surface O3 precursor data were used as independent variables to retrieve the daily O3 concentrations. The contribution of the proposed model is that the NDVI data were introduced as the underlying factor to explain the heterogeneity of underlying conditions and indicate O3 concentration more accurately to improve the estimation accuracy. Then, the ground station observations were used to validate the estimated ground-level O3 concentration results. Based on the cross-validation results of all test data, the model estimated the root mean squared error and the correlation coefficient of surface O3 to be 9.456 μg/m3 and 0.983, respectively. The results demonstrate that it is feasible to estimate surface O3 concentrations using data from the TROPOMI sensor and an improved geographically weighted regression model.

Due to the advantage of high spatial coverage, using satellite-retrieved aerosol optical depth (AOD) data to estimate PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations is a current research priority. Statistical models are the common method of PM estimation currently, which do not require the knowledge of complex chemical and physical interactions. However, the statistical models rely on station data, which results in less accurate PM estimation concentrations in areas where station data are missing. Hence, a new hybrid model, with low dependency on on-site data, was proposed for PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentration estimation. The Gaofen-1 satellite and MODIS data were employed to estimate PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations with 100 m spatial resolution in Beijing, China. Then, the estimated PM2.5/10 mass concentration data in 2020 were employed to conduct a spatio-temporal analysis for the investigation of the particulate matter characteristic in Beijing. The estimation result of PM2.5 was validated by the ground stations with R2 ranging from 0.91 to 0.98 and the root mean square error (RMSE) ranging from 4.51 μg/m3 to 17.04 μg/m3, and that for PM10 was validated by the ground stations with R2 ranging from 0.85 to 0.98 and the RMSE ranging from 6.98 µg/m3 to 29.00 µg/m3. The results showed that the hybrid model has a good performance in PM2.5/10 estimation and can improve the coverage of the results without sacrificing the effectiveness of the model, providing more detailed spatial information for urban-scale studies.

In recent years, the issue of air pollution has garnered significant public attention globally, with a particular emphasis on the challenge of atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution. The efficient and precise simulation of changes in pollutant concentrations, as well as their spatial and temporal distribution, is essential for effectively addressing the air pollution issue. In this paper, the WRF-Chem model is used to simulate the meteorological elements including temperature (T), relative humidity (RH), wind speed (WS), and pressure (P), and the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 atmospheric pollutants in December 2020 in Xuzhou City. Simultaneously, the ADMS-Urban model was employed to conduct a higher spatial resolution study of PM2.5 concentrations during the heavy pollution days of 11–12 December 2020 in Xuzhou City. The study shows that the WRF-Chem model can simulate the meteorological conditions of the study time period better, and the correlation coefficients (R) of pressure, temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity are 0.99, 0.87, 0.75, and 0.70, respectively. The WRF-Chem model can accurately simulate the PM2.5 concentration on clean days (R of 0.66), but the simulation of polluted days is not satisfactory. Therefore, the ADMS-Urban model was chosen to simulate the PM2.5 concentration on polluted days in the center of Xuzhou City. The ADMS-Urban model can simulate the distribution characteristics and concentration changes of PM2.5 around roads and buildings in the center of Xuzhou City. Comparing the simulation results of the two models, it was found that the two models have their own advantages in PM2.5 concentration simulation, and how to better couple the two models is the next research direction.

ObjectiveTo explore the interhemispheric information synergy ability of the brain in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients by applying the voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC) method and further explore the potential clinical diagnostic value of VMHC metric by a machine learning approach.Methods52 healthy controls and 48 first-episode MDD patients were recruited in the study. We performed neuropsychological tests and resting-state fMRI scanning on all subjects. The VMHC values of the symmetrical interhemispheric voxels in the whole brain were calculated. The VMHC alterations were compared between two groups, and the relationship between VMHC values and clinical variables was analyzed. Then, abnormal brain regions were selected as features to conduct the classification model by using the support vector machine (SVM) approach.ResultsCompared to the healthy controls, MDD patients exhibited decreased VMHC values in the bilateral middle frontal gyrus, fusiform gyrus, medial superior frontal gyrus and precentral gyrus. Furthermore, the VMHC value of the bilateral fusiform gyrus was positively correlated with the total Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD). Moreover, SVM analysis displayed that a combination of all clusters demonstrated the highest area under the curve (AUC) of 0.87 with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity values of 86.17%, 76.74%, and 94.12%, respectively.ConclusionMDD patients had reduced functional connectivity in the bilateral middle frontal gyrus, fusiform gyrus, medial superior frontal gyrus and precentral gyrus, which may be related to depressive symptoms. The abnormality in these brain regions could represent potential imaging markers to distinguish MDD patients from healthy controls.

BackgroundEndovascular thrombectomy (EVT) has evolved into the standard treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and large vessel occlusion (LVO). However, little information is available on the management of EVT in young patients with AIS-LVO in China. The purpose of this study was to assess the favorable outcomes and mortality rates after 90 days of EVT in young Chinese patients with AIS-LVO and their predictors.MethodsThis retrospective study included young Chinese patients aged 18–50 years with AIS-LVO. The primary efficacy endpoint was the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score at day 90, and the primary safety endpoint was mortality within 90 days. Using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, the associations between clinical, imaging, and procedure variables and favorable (mRS 0–2) outcomes or mortality at 90 days were analyzed.ResultsA total of 113 patients were included in the study with a mean age of 43.1 ± 6.3 years. Symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) occurred in 8 (7.1%) patients. Favorable functional outcomes (mRS 0–2) were recovered in 42.5% of patients at 3 months. After 90 days, the mortality rate was 32.3%. Multivariate analysis revealed that the increase in admission NIHSS score was associated with a lower probability of functional independence (aOR 1.08, 95% CI 1.02–1.15, p = 0.01 and aOR 1.01, 95% CI 1–1.01, p = 0.008, respectively) and a higher probability of death at 90 days (aOR 1.1, 95% CI 1.03–1.18, p = 0.007 and aOR 1.00, 95% CI 1–1.01, p = 0.021, respectively).ConclusionThis study demonstrate that EVT provides higher rates of arterial recanalization, rather than better favorable outcomes and lower risk of death at 3 months in young Chinese patients with AIS-LVO. Increased NIHSS scores on admission may be associated with poor patient prognosis.

Many chronic inflammatory diseases, such as autoimmune inflammation, are associated with M1 macrophages, and the key to their treatment is blocking inflammation. Oxymatrine (OMT), a traditional Chinese medicine, has a marked anti-inflammatory effect. However, its anti-inflammatory target and mechanism in M1 cells remain unclear, which limits its clinical application. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of oxymatrine (OMT) on the M1 inflammatory response. We also determined the relationship between OMT treatment and the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) pathway with OMT treatment. To this end, we induced the differentiation of human peripheral blood monocytes (THP-1) into M1 cells. THP-1 cells were induced with a phorbol ester (phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA)) and differentiated into naïve M0 macrophages. M0 cells were induced into M1 cells using lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The experimental groups were divided into the M0 macrophage group (NC), M1 inflammatory response group (LPS group), and M1 group treated with different concentrations of OMT (LPS + OMT-L, LPS + OMT-M, LPS + OMT-H). The cells in the OMT-treated groups were treated with OMT for 6 h, followed by LPS for 24 h, and the LPS group was treated with LPS only. The resulting supernatants and cells were collected. The secretion levels of NO were detected by the Griess method and the secretion levels of TNF-α and IL-1β in the supernatants were detected by the ELISA method. Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) onboard National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites can provide over 40 years of global remote sensing observations, which can be used to retrieve long-term aerosol optical depth (AOD). This is of great significance to the study of global climate change. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm to jointly calculate AOD and land surface properties from AVHRR observations. With assumptions that AOD doesn’t vary in adjacent space and earth surface property doesn’t vary in two days, the algorithm considered non-Lambertian surface reflection based on the shape of bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF shape) and obtained AOD and surface property by optimal estimation (OE) method. The algorithm has been applied to NOAA-7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, and 19 satellites and AVHRR-retrieved AOD with 5 × 10 km over China (15°–60° N, 70°–140°E) has been obtained from 1982 to 2016. Comparisons of AVHRR-retrieved AOD against AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) (in and around China) and China Aerosol Remote Sensing Network (CARSNET) AOD show good consistency with 62.62% points within the uncertainty of Δτ = ± (0.05 + 0.25τ) and root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.26. Further comparison of the monthly mean AOD of multiple AOD datasets in the ‘Beijing’, ‘Dalanzadgad’, ‘NCU_Taiwan’ and ‘Kanpur’ stations shows that the results of the algorithm are stable. The yearly averaged AOD data also has similar agreements with MERRA-2 (The Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications, Version 2) and AVHRRDB data (AVHRR ‘Deep Blue’ aerosol data set). The multi-year mean correlation coefficient is 0.70 and 0.61 and the percentages within the uncertainty are 80.01% and 67.29% compared with MERRA-2 AOD and AVHRRDB AOD respectively.

Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) refers to diffuse brain dysfunction secondary to systemic infection without central nervous system infection. The early diagnosis of SAE remains a major clinical problem, and its diagnosis is still exclusionary. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) related techniques, such as magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), molecular MRI (mMRI), arterial spin-labeling (ASL), fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR), and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), currently provide new options for the early identification of SAE. This review collected clinical and basic research and case reports related to SAE and MRI-related techniques in recent years, summarized and analyzed the basic principles and applications of MRI technology in diagnosing SAE, and provided a basis for diagnosing SAE by MRI-related techniques.

Abstract Extracellular vesicles (EVs), spherical biological vesicles, mainly contain nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and metabolites for biological information transfer between cells. Microparticles (MPs), a subtype of EVs, directly emerge from plasma membranes, and have gained interest in recent years. Specific cell stimulation conditions, such as ultraviolet and X-rays irradiation, can induce the release of MPs, which are endowed with unique antitumor functionalities, either for therapeutic vaccines or as direct antitumor agents. Moreover, the size of MPs (100–1000 nm) and their spherical structures surrounded by a lipid bilayer membrane allow MPs to function as delivery vectors for bioactive antitumor compounds, with favorable phamacokinetic behavior, immunostimulatory activity and biological function, without inherent carrier-specific toxic side effects. In this review, the mechanisms underlying MP biogenesis, factors that influence MP production, properties of MP membranes, size, composition and isolation methods of MPs are discussed. Additionally, the applications and mechanisms of action of MPs, as well as the main hurdles for their applications in cancer management, are introduced. Graphical Abstract

Federated learning (FL) allows the collaborative training of a collective model by a vast number of decentralized clients while ensuring that these clients’ data remain private and are not shared. In practical situations, the training data utilized in FL often exhibit non-IID characteristics, hence diminishing the efficacy of FL. Our study presents a novel privacy-preserving FL algorithm, HW-DPFL, which leverages data label distribution similarity as a basis for its design. Our proposed approach achieves this objective without incurring any additional overhead communication. In this study, we provide evidence to support the assertion that our approach improves the privacy guarantee and convergence of FL both theoretically and empirically.

Imported air pollution has a significant impact on urban air quality. Relevant studies have shown that many urban air pollution events are not resourced by local emissions but are imported by air pollution from surrounding areas transported across regions. The prevention and control of air pollution is very necessary. However, the existing supervision of urban air quality mostly relies on ground monitoring stations, which are extremely limited in time and space, and cannot satisfy continuous time-space air pollution research. Therefore, aiming at the problem of urban air pollution control, this paper used MERRA-2 reanalysis data and ground monitoring data to establish a “Time-Longitude-Latitude” three-dimensional pollution curve, and then a genetic algorithm was used to optimize its fitting. This study finally reconstructed the imported air pollution transmission route. This paper takes an air pollution event that occurred in Xuzhou City, China, on 12 January 2020, as an example. Through the analysis of aerosol optical depth (AOD), particulate matter (PM), wind speed, and other factors, we found the source, transmission route, and impact time of this pollution. We have verified the correctness and accuracy of the reconstructed contamination transport paths. It is proved that the method is universal and it can quickly and accurately restore the air pollution transmission route and identify the urban imported air pollution transmission entrance. This method will also provide strong data support for the division of responsibilities of environmental protection departments in various regions for severe air pollution transmission events and provide effective governance ideas for the prevention and control of imported air pollution in recipient cities.

IntroductionHead and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a malignant neoplasm typically induced by alcohol and tobacco consumption, ranked the sixth most prevalent cancer globally. This study aimed to establish a cuproptosis-related lncRNA predictive model to assess the clinical significance in HNSCC patients.MethodsThe Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was utilized to download cuproptosis-related genes, lncRNAs profiles, and selected clinical information of 482 HNSCC samples. Cuproptosis-related lncRNAs were analyzed by Pearson correlation method, with the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and univariate/multivariate Cox analyses performed to establish the cuproptosis-related lncRNA predictive model. Subsequently, the time-dependent receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and Kaplan-Meier analysis were applied to assess its prediction ability, and the model was verified by a nomogram, univariate/multivariate Cox analysis, and calibration curves. Furthermore, the principal component analysis (PCA), immune analysis, and gene set enrichment analyses (GSEA) were performed, and the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) prediction in the risk groups was calculated. Furthermore, the expression of six cuproptosis-related lncRNAs in HNSCC and paracancerous tissues was detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR).ResultsA total of 467 lncRNAs were screened as cuproptosis-associated lncRNAs in HNSCC tissues to establish an eight cuproptosis-related lncRNA prognostic signature consisting of AC024075.3, AC090587.2, AC116914.2, AL450384.2, CDKN2A-DT, FAM27E3, JPX, and LNC01089. For the high-risk group, the results demonstrated a satisfactory predicting performance with considerably worse overall survival (OS). Multivariate Cox regression confirmed that the risk score was a reliable predictive factor (95% CI: 1.089–1.208, hazard ratio =1.147), with the area of 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS under the ROC curve of 0.690, 0.78524, and 0.665, respectively. The differential analysis revealed that JPX was significantly upregulated in HNSCC tissues, while AC024075.3, AC090587.2, AC116914.2, AL450384.2, CDKN2A-DT were downregulated in HNSCC tissues by qRT-PCR assays. In addition, this gene signature was also associated with some immune-related pathways and immune cell infiltration and affected the anti-cancer immune response. Furthermore, Bexarotene, Bleomycin, Gemcitabine, etc., were identified as potential therapeutic compounds for HNSCC.DiscussionsThis novel cuproptosis-related lncRNAs prognostic signature could predict prognosis and help propose novel individual therapeutic targets for HNSCC.

Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), quantifying the amount of aerosol in the atmosphere, is widely regarded as a crucial indicator for research on atmospheric physics and regional air quality. At present, the inversion of AOD from observation of satellite remote sensing sensors has become the main technology for large-scale monitoring of aerosol load. The Huaihai Economic Zone is the connecting belt of two key areas of atmospheric governance (the Yangtze River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, China), and it has been suffering from air pollution for many years and few studies of AOD focus on this region. Therefore, the spatial and temporal characteristics of the AOD are explored using MODIS AOD data and AVHRR AOD data in this region during the period from 1982 to 2021 in this study. The correlation coefficients between the AOD of satellite observation and actual air pollution were analyzed by combining PM2.5 pollutant concentration and air quality index (AQI) data. The results showed that the AOD is higher in the northwest than in the southeast, and it is different from season to season. The annual variation of AOD in the Huaihai Economic Zone is a W-shaped trend from 1982 to 2011, while the trend of annual AOD is decreasing after 2011. In terms of seasons, the whole differences in AOD are evident, exhibiting AOD values in summer > those in spring > those in autumn > and those in winter. Furthermore, it indicated that the quarterly and monthly variation of the AOD tends to be flat in recent years. Since 2015, the concentration of PM2.5 has continued to decline, the same as that of AQI. Meanwhile, the quarterly and monthly differences in PM2.5 are still obvious, with higher PM2.5 in winter and lower PM2.5 in summer. However, it also represented that PM2.5 is significantly higher in spring than in autumn from 2015 to 2018, which is the opposite for 2019 to 2021. Lastly, the correlation between AOD and PM2.5/AQI is also given; i.e., the correlation coefficients of AOD with PM2.5/AQI are 0.84/0.82, with the highest correlation coefficient in autumn (R = 0.86/0.91) and the lowest in winter (R = 0.46/0.48).

Increasing evidence demonstrates that Lin28B plays critical roles in numerous biological processes including cell proliferation and stemness maintenance. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying Lin28B nuclear translocation remain poorly understood. Here, we found for the first time that KRAS promoted Lin28B nuclear translocation through PKCβ, which directly bound to and phosphorylated Lin28B at S243. Firstly, we observed that Lin28B was upregulated in pancreatic cancer, contributing to cellular migration and proliferation. Furthermore, nuclear Lin28B upregulated TET3 messenger RNA and protein levels by blocking the production of mature let‐7i. Subsequently, increased TET3 expression could also promote the expression of Lin28B, thereby forming a Lin28B/let‐7i/TET3 feedback loop. Our results suggest that the KRAS/Lin28B axis drives the let‐7i/TET3 pathway to maintain the stemness of pancreatic cancer cells. These findings illuminate the distinct mechanism of Lin28B nuclear translocation and its important roles in KRAS‐driven pancreatic cancer, and have important implications for development of novel therapeutic strategies for this cancer.

Enterprise social media (ESM) has been widely adopted by firms for employee work-related communication. However, it is still debatable how such usage benefits work stress and employee work efficiency. Applying the transactional theory of stress, this study examined the impact of resilience as a moderator on the link between work stressors and individual work efficiency. A total of 285 entries were used to analyze the proposed hypothesis, using structural equation modeling (SEM) technique and hierarchical regression analysis on SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 software. According to the findings, ESM use has a considerable impact on work stresses (challenge and hindrance). The findings also revealed that challenge stressors have a beneficial influence on employee work efficiency, while hindrance stressors have a negative impact on it. Furthermore, the results also indicated that resilience strengthens the positive relationship between challenge-stressed employees and work efficiency. However, the findings also revealed that resilience reduces the negative association between hindrance-stress and work efficiency. Finally, the author also explored the study's implications for theory and management.

The Advanced Geostationary Radiation Imager (AGRI) is one of the primary payloads aboard the FY-4A geostationary meteorological satellite, which can provide high-frequency, wide coverage, and multiple spectral channel observations for China and surrounding areas. There are currently few studies on aerosol optical depth (AOD) inversion from FY-4A AGRI data. Based on AGRI data, a new land AOD retrieval algorithm called the band ratio library (BRL) algorithm was proposed in this study. The monthly average surface reflectance band ratio library was established after obtaining the relationship of band surface reflectance ratio from the MODIS combined AOD dataset. In order to calculate the hourly AOD, look-up tables (LUT) for the various aerosol models were constructed using the 6SV model. We quantitatively compared AOD produced from AGRI data with AERONET ground observations to validate the BRL algorithm. AGRI-retrieved AOD is in good agreement with AOD measured by AERONET, which has a correlation coefficient of R is 0.84, the linear regression function is AODAGRI = 0.80 ∗ AODAERONET − 0.004, the root-mean-square error (RMSE) is 0.16, and approximately 60% of the AGRI AOD results fall within the uncertain range of AOD = ±(0.2 × AODAERONET + 0.05). A cross-comparison was made with the MODIS AOD product provided by NASA. The comparison and verification show the proposed algorithm has a good accuracy of land AOD estimation from AGRI data.

Given the broad applications of service-oriented architecture (SOA) in service-oriented software engineering, service-based systems (SBSs) built from existing Web services are becoming increasingly popular. As a result, the selection of the appropriate component services to include in SBSs has become a crucial step in the SBS-engineering process. Unfortunately, most of the existing methods require that system engineers have a detailed knowledge of the corresponding SOA techniques, which can incur several limitations, including excessively demanding development conditions and a lengthy development cycle. To address this issue, we propose to use subgraph queries for SBSs (SQS), which is an efficient approach that allows system engineers to build SBSs based on previous development experience. The SQS converts the SBS engineering problem into a subgraph isomorphism problem and uses a customized algorithm inspired by the VF2 algorithm to build SBSs with quality constraints and optimization goals for system quality. The SQS offers a new paradigm for efficient SBS engineering that significantly reduces the time and effort required in the system-engineering process. We discuss a series of experiments that use two real-world Web service datasets to demonstrate the practicality, effectiveness, and efficiency of this approach.

In this work, we applied single-pulse electrodeposition method to prepare biodegradable zinc coating for the shell of an implantable dosing pump, and explored the effect of pulse frequency on microstructures and degradation behavior of electroformed zinc. Samples were produced by single-pulse electro-deposition technique with different pulse frequencies (50 Hz, 100 Hz, and 1000 Hz). By controlling the pulse frequency, the thickness of the zinc coating can be adjusted. The 50 Hz produced zinc film possesses strong (11.0) grain orientation, 100 Hz produced zinc film possesses clear ((11.0) and (10.0)) grain orientations, yet 1000 Hz produced zinc film shows more random grain orientations of (10.0), (10.1), and (11.0), which provides a possible way to design a controllable nanometer surface microtopography. Although thermodynamic degradation tendency implied from open current corrosion voltage were similar, the kinetic corrosion rate showed a clear increasing trend as pulse frequency increased from 50 Hz to 1000 Hz, which corresponded with the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and long-term soaking test in hanks solution. According to ISO 10993-5:2009 and ISO 10993-4:2002, electrodeposited zinc materials produced in this study showed a benign hemolysis ratio and no toxicity for cell growth. Zinc prepared under 50 Hz shows the best blood compatibility. Electrodeposited zinc materials are expected to be used for the shell of a degradable dosing pump.

The Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) aboard the Himawari-8, a new generation of geostationary meteorological satellite, has high-frequency observation, which allows it to effectively capture atmospheric variations. In this paper, we have proposed an Improved Bi-angle Aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieval Algorithm (IBAA) from AHI data. The algorithm ignores the aerosol effect at 2.3 μm and assumes that the aerosol optical depth does not change within one hour. According to the property that the reflectivity ratio K of two observations at 2.3 μm does not change with wavelength, we constructed the equation for two observations of AHI 0.47 μm band. Then Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) was used to solve the nonlinear equation. The algorithm was applied to the AHI observations over the Chinese mainland (80°–135°E, 15°–60°N) between April and June 2019 and hourly AOD at 0.47 μm was retrieved. We validated IBAA AOD against the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) sites observation, including surrounding regions as well as the Chinese mainland, and compared it with the AHI L3 V030 hourly AOD product. Validation with AERONET of 2079 matching points shows a correlation coefficient R = 0.82, root-mean-square error RMSE = 0.27, and more than 62% AOD retrieval results within the expected error of ±(0.05 + 0.2 × AODAERONET). Although IBAA does not perform very well in the case of coarse-particle aerosols, the comparison and validation demonstrate it can estimate AHI AOD with good accuracy and wide coverage over land on the whole.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) in China using the improved geographically and temporally weighted regression (IGTWR) model and Fengyun (FY-4A) aerosol optical depth (AOD) data. Based on the IGTWR model, the boundary layer height (BLH), relative humidity (RH), AOD, time, space, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data are employed to estimate the PM2.5 and PM10. The main processes of this study are as follows: firstly, the feasibility of the AOD data from FY-4A in estimating PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations were analysed and confirmed by randomly selecting 5–6 and 9–10 June 2020 as an example. Secondly, hourly concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 are estimated between 00:00 and 09:00 (UTC) each day. Specifically, the model estimates that the correlation coefficient R2 of PM2.5 is 0.909 and the root mean squared error (RMSE) is 5.802 μg/m3, while the estimated R2 of PM10 is 0.915, and the RMSE is 12.939 μg/m3. Our high temporal resolution results reveal the spatial and temporal characteristics of hourly PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations on the day. The results indicate that the use of data from the FY-4A satellite and an improved time–geographically weighted regression model for estimating PM2.5 and PM10 is feasible, and replacing land use classification data with NDVI facilitates model improvement.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the pathogenic mechanism of group A Streptococcus (GAS) and to investigate how GAS evades phagocytosis by immune cells. Methods: The classical inflammatory signaling pathway of macrophages infected with GAS was investigated by protein microarray, real-time PCR, Western blot, immunoprecipitation, and flow cytometry. Results: GAS induced a lower level of inflammatory mediators in macrophages than either the Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus or the Gram-negative Escherichia coli. Therefore, the conventional inflammatory signal pathway was investigated. It was found that GAS and S. aureus induced both toll-like receptor (TLR)2 and TLR4 expression, while Gram-negative E. coli only activated TLR4 in RAW264.7 cells. Although MyD88, the main adaptor protein, was activated by the three pathogens, there was no difference in MyD88 expression in macrophages. Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) is the classical transcription factor of inflammatory signals, and the results of the present study showed that GAS, similar to E. coli, induced a weaker p65 nuclear translocation compared to S. aureus. Interestingly, GAS activated NF-κB by inducing p65–p52 heterodimer, but not the classical heterodimer of NF-κB (p65–p50), while E. coli activated NF-κB by inducing both p65–p50 and p65–p52 heterodimers. Conclusions: Compared to S. aureus and E. coli infection, GAS induced a weaker nuclear translocation and distinct combination of NF-κB subunits in macrophages, which probably leads to a weak inflammatory response.

Group A streptococcus (GAS), a common pathogen, is able to escape host immune attack and thus survive for longer periods of time. One of the mechanisms used by GAS is the upregulated expression of immunosuppressive molecules, which leads to a reduction in the production of inflammatory cytokines in immune cells. In the present study, we found that macrophages produced lower levels of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6) when challenged with GAS than they did when challenged with Escherichia coli (E. coli). Simultaneously, in a mouse model of lung infection, GAS appeared to induce a weaker inflammatory response compared to E. coli. Our data also indicated that the expression of the A20 transcriptional regulator was higher in GAS-infected macrophages than that in macrophages infected with E. coli, and that high expression of A20 correlated with a reduction in the production of TRAF6. SiRNA targeting of A20 led to the increased production of TRAF6, IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6, suggesting that A20 inhibits synthesis of these key proinflammatory cytokines. We also investigated the pathway underlying A20 production and found that the synthesis of A20 depends on My88, and to a lower extent on TNFR1. Finally, we showed a significant reduction in the expression of A20 in macrophages stimulated by M protein-mutant GAS, however, a speB-GAS mutant, which is unable to degrade M protein, induced a greater level of A20 production than wild type GAS. Collectively, our data suggested that M protein of GAS was responsible for inducing A20 expression in macrophages, which in turn down-regulates the inflammatory cytokine response in order to facilitate GAS in evading immune surveillance and thus prolong survival in the host.

We develop a stoichiometric silicon nitride (SiN) membrane-based electromechanical system, in which the spring constant of the mechanical resonator can be dynamically controlled via piezoelectric actuation. The degenerate parametric amplifier is studied in this configuration. We observe the splitting of mechanical mode in the response spectra of a phase-sensitive parametric amplifier. In addition, we demonstrate that the quality factor Q of the membrane oscillator can be significantly enhanced by more than two orders of magnitude due to the coherent amplification, reaching an effective Q factor of ∼3 × 108 at room temperature. The nonlinear effect on the parametric amplification is also investigated, as well as the thermomechanical noise squeezing. This system offers the possibility to integrate electrical, optical and mechanical degrees of freedom without compromising the exceptional material properties of SiN membranes, and can be a useful platform for studying cavity optoelectromechanics.

In this article, we study the oscillatory behavior of solutions to even-order nonlinear neutral difference equations of the form $$ \Delta^m_\tau( x(t)-px(t-r))+f(t,x(g(t)))=0. $$ Using an integral transformation, the Riccati transformation, and iteration, we obtain sufficient conditions for all solutions to be oscillatory. Examples are also given to illustrate the obtained criteria.

The characteristics of moist static energy (MSE) and its budget in a simulated tropical cyclone (TC) are examined in this study. Results demonstrate that MSE in a TC system is enhanced as the storm strengthens, primarily because of two mechanisms: upward transfer of surface heat fluxes and subsequent warming of the upper troposphere. An inspection of the interchangeable approximation between MSE and equivalent potential temperature (θe) suggests that although MSE is capable of capturing overall structures of θe, some important features will still be distorted, specifically the low-MSE pool outside the eyewall. In this low-MSE region, from the budget analysis, the discharge of MSE in the boundary layer may even surpass the recharge of MSE from the ocean. Unlike the volume-averaged MSE, the mass-weighted MSE in a fixed volume following the TC shows no apparent increase as the TC intensifies, because the atmosphere becomes continually thinner accompanying the warming of the storm. By calculating a mass-weighted volume MSE budget, the TC system is found to export MSE throughout its lifetime, since the radial outflow overwhelms the radial inflow. Moreover, the more intensified the TC is, the more export of MSE there tends to be. The input of MSE by surface heat fluxes is roughly balanced by the combined effects of radiation and lateral export, wherein a great majority of the imported MSE is reduced by radiation, while the export of MSE from the TC system to the environment accounts for only a small portion.
