Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a debilitating autoimmune disease characterized by chronic joint inflammation and cartilage damage. Current therapeutic strategies often result in side effects, necessitating the development of targeted and safer treatment options. This study introduces a novel nanotherapeutic system, 2-APB@DGP-MM, which utilizes macrophage membrane (MM)-encapsulated nanoparticles (NPs) for the targeted delivery of 2-Aminoethyl diphenylborinate (2-APB) to inflamed joints more effectively. The NPs are designed with a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-cleavable peptide, allowing for MMP-responsive drug release within RA microenvironment. Comprehensive in vitro and in vivo assays confirmed the successful synthesis and loading of 2-APB into the DSPE-GPLGVRGC-PEG (DGP) NPs, as well as their ability to repolarize macrophages from a pro-inflammatory M1 to an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. The NPs demonstrated high biocompatibility, low cytotoxicity, and enhanced cellular uptake. In a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mouse model, intra-articular injection of 2-APB@DGP-MM significantly reduced synovial inflammation and cartilage destruction. Histological analysis corroborated these findings, demonstrating marked improvements in joint structure and delayed disease progression. Above all, the 2-APB@DGP-MM nanotherapeutic system offers a promising and safe approach for RA treatment by modulating macrophage polarization and delivering effective agents to inflamed joints. Abstract Background Deposition of amyloid β, which is produced by amyloidogenic cleavage of APP by β- and γ-secretase, is one of the primary hallmarks of AD pathology. APP can also be processed by α- and γ-secretase sequentially, to generate sAPPα, which has been shown to be neuroprotective by promoting neurite outgrowth and neuronal survival, etc. Methods The global expression profiles of miRNA in blood plasma samples taken from 11 AD patients as well as from 14 age and sex matched cognitively normal volunteers were analyzed using miRNA-seq. Then, overexpressed miR-140 and miR-122 both in vivo and in vitro, and knock-down of the endogenous expression of miR-140 and miR-122 in vitro. Used a combination of techniques, including molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, to detect the impact of miRNAs on AD pathology. Results In this study, we identified that two miRNAs, miR-140-3p and miR-122-5p, both targeting ADAM10, the main α-secretase in CNS, were upregulated in the blood plasma of AD patients. Overexpression of these two miRNAs in mouse brains induced cognitive decline in wild type C57BL/6J mice as well as exacerbated dyscognition in APP/PS1 mice. Although significant changes in APP and total Aβ were not detected, significantly downregulated ADAM10 and its non-amyloidogenic product, sAPPα, were observed in the mouse brains overexpressing miR-140/miR-122. Immunohistology analysis revealed increased neurite dystrophy that correlated with the reduced microglial chemotaxis in the hippocampi of these mice, independent of the other two ADAM10 substrates (neuronal CX3CL1 and microglial TREM2) that were involved in regulating the microglial immunoactivity. Further in vitro analysis demonstrated that both the reduced neuritic outgrowth of mouse embryonic neuronal cells overexpressing miR-140/miR-122 and the reduced Aβ phagocytosis in microglia cells co-cultured with HT22 cells overexpressing miR-140/miR-122 could be rescued by overexpressing the specific inhibitory sequence of miR-140/miR-122 TuD as well as by addition of sAPPα, rendering these miRNAs as potential therapeutic targets. Conclusions Our results suggested that neuroprotective sAPPα was a key player in the neuropathological progression induced by dysregulated expression of miR-140 and miR-122. Targeting these miRNAs might serve as a promising therapeutic strategy in AD treatment.

The self-organizing biological characteristics of vegetation and human activities lead to the disruption of the continuous spatial attributes of natural watersheds, which are significant factors affecting river wetland ecosystems. To clarify the landscape ecological flow characteristics of vegetation patch distribution and fragmentation, this study used the three-dimensional Reynolds stress turbulence model in ANSYS Fluent software. The model considered three vegetation patch coverages under two different submersion states and four fragmentation types of vegetation patches under the same coverage conditions within specific vegetation areas. The flow characteristics of longitudinally discontinuous rigid vegetation patches, occupying half of the width of the river channel, were numerically simulated. The model’s applicability was verified by indoor open-channel flume experiments. The results indicated that: (1) The streamwise velocity in vegetated areas is significantly lower than in non-vegetated areas, and the difference in flow capacity between vegetated and non-vegetated areas increases with patch coverage and fragmentation degree. (2) In the non-submerged state, the maximum Reynolds stress in the vegetated area is located at the bottom of the vegetation and is negatively correlated with patch coverage but positively correlated with fragmentation degree. In the submerged state, the maximum Reynolds stress is located near the top of the canopy and is positively correlated with both patch coverage and fragmentation degree. (3) The longitudinal turbulent kinetic energy in the vegetated area is significantly higher than in the non-vegetated area. In the non-submerged state, the turbulent kinetic energy in the vegetated area is negatively correlated with patch coverage but positively correlated with fragmentation degree. In the submerged state, the turbulent kinetic energy of the longitudinal distribution in the free layer of the vegetated area is positively correlated with patch coverage, negatively correlated with fragmentation degree, and is only reflected in the upstream vegetation area.

Abstract The ventilation rate of cigarettes is an important indicator that affects the internal quality of cigarettes. When producing cigarettes, the unit may experience unstable ventilation rates, which can lead to a decrease in cigarette quality and pose certain risks to smokers. By establishing the ventilation rate prediction model, guide the design of unit parameters in advance, to achieve the goal of stabilizing unit ventilation rate, improve the stability of cigarette ventilation rate, and enhance the quality of cigarettes. Articular cartilage damage and chondrocyte apoptosis are among the distinguishing features of osteoarthritis. (R)-N-(benzimidazol-2-yl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphtylamine (NS8593) is a transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 7 (TRPM7) channel inhibitor and was initially considered a potent inhibitor of small-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels(SK1-3 or KCa2.1–2.3 channels). Since SK is one of the targets for atrial fibrillation therapy, several studies have been conducted using NS8593 and it has been shown to be effective in improving atrial fibrillation in rats, dogs and horses. Recently, inhibition of TRPM7 has been reported to alleviate articular cartilage destruction. However, the role and mechanism of NS8593 on articular chondrocyte damage is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect and mechanism of NS8593 on sodium nitroprusside (SNP)-induced chondrocyte apoptosis in vitro. The results showed that SNP decreased cell viability and induced chondrocyte apoptosis. NS8593 dose-dependently inhibited the SNP-induced decrease in cell viability and reduced chondrocyte apoptosis. In addition, SNP stimulation significantly increased the phosphorylation level of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING), and NS8593 treatment partially reversed the alteration of STING phosphorylation level. Treatment with the STING inhibitor H-151 inhibited SNP-induced chondrocyte apoptosis. These results suggest that NS8593 may inhibit SNP-induced chondrocyte apoptosis by suppressing the STING signaling pathway.

Fusarium crown rot (FCR) is an important and devastating disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum) caused by the fungus Fusarium pseudograminearum and related pathogens. Using two distinct susceptible cultivars, we investigated the isolation frequencies of F. pseudograminearum and quantified its biomass accumulation and the levels of the associated toxins deoxynivalenol (DON) and DON-3-glucoside (D3G) in inoculated field-grown wheat plants. We detected F. pseudograminearum in stem, peduncle, rachis, and husk tissues, but not in grains, whereas DON and D3G accumulated in stem, rachis, husk, and grain tissues. Disease severity was positively correlated with the frequency of pathogen isolation, F. pseudograminearum biomass, and mycotoxin levels. The amount of F. pseudograminearum biomass and mycotoxin contents in asymptomatic tissue of diseased plants were associated with the distance of the tissue from the diseased internode and the disease severity of the plant. Thus, apparently healthy tissue may harbor F. pseudograminearum and contain associated mycotoxins. This research helps clarify the relationship between F. pseudograminearum occurrence, F. pseudograminearum biomass, and mycotoxin accumulation in tissues of susceptible wheat cultivars with or without disease symptoms, providing information that can lead to more effective control measures.

Background: Recurrent aphthous ulcer (RAU) had high prevalence and lacked widely recognized treatment. Total glucosides of paeony (TGP) was used in the treatment of RAU in recent years. This study was to summarize the efficacy and safety of TGP in the treatment of RAU.Methods: We searched eight commonly used databases for relevant studies that published before 1 November 2023. Primary outcome was visual analogue scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included overall response rate, significant response rate, ulcer healing time, interval, number of ulcers, and serum inflammatory factors. We conducted the meta-analysis, assessed risk of bias and the confidence of the evidence, by using Stata 15.0, Review Manager 5.4, and Gradepro.Results: Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) encompassing 883 patients with RAU were included in the final analysis. The VAS in the TGP group was lower than that in the control group (MD = −1.18, 95% CI = −1.58 to −0.78, p < 0.001, moderate-certainty evidence), subgroup analysis suggested longer (>8 weeks) medication and observation led to a more significant reduction in pain (p = 0.02). Moreover, TGP had higher overall response rate (RR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.04 to 1.33, p = 0.008, very low-certainty evidence) and significant response rate (RR = 1.72, 95% CI = 1.38 to 2.14, p < 0.001, very low-certainty evidence), accelerated ulcer healing (MD = −1.79, 95% CI = −2.67 to −0.91, p < 0.001, low-certainty evidence), and extended intervals (MD = 23.60, 95% CI = 14.17 to 33.03, p < 0.001, very low-certainty evidence). The efficacy of TGP in reducing the number of ulcers showed no significant difference compared to the control group (MD = −1.66, 95% CI = −3.60 to 0.28, p = 0.09, low-certainty evidence). Moreover, TGP treatment was associated with a higher incidence of abdominal symptoms (RR = 3.27, 95% CI = 1.62 to 6.60, p < 0.001).Conclusion: TGP appears to hold promise as a widely-used clinical therapeutic option for treating RAU. Polygeneration systems have significant potential for energy conservation and emission reduction and can effectively promote green and low-carbon development in energy-intensive industries, such as the iron and steel industry. However, its application faces the difficulty in technology selection under multiple objectives simultaneously, which is to determine the technology portfolio to achieve the synergy of energy conservation goals and air pollutant emission reduction goals, as well as ensure the economic benefits of the enterprises. This study investigated a case polygeneration system where the iron and steel plant are the core with four polygeneration paths and twenty polygeneration technologies. A multi-objective optimization model is developed to select the optimal technology combination of each polygeneration path under energy conservation, emission reduction, and cost control objectives, which is solved by the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The optimal results can reach significant energy conservation and emission reduction effects while obtaining economic benefits. However, synergistic and conflicting relationships among the objectives exist in both scales of iron and steel plants. The final decision scheme can achieve the mitigations equivalent to 15.9–27.1% and 16.3–42.6% of the energy consumption and air pollutant emissions of the steel enterprises with annual production of 3 Mt/a and 9 Mt/a, respectively. There are thirteen and twelve technologies that are selected as the final decision scheme in the polygeneration system in these two case enterprises. These findings demonstrate the significant roles the polygeneration system plays and provide critical insights and methodology in the technical selection of the polygeneration system.

Abstract Background COVID-19 is a global pandemic. Understanding the immune responses in pregnant women recovering from COVID-19 may suggest new therapeutic approaches. Methods We performed a cross-sectional study between March 1, 2020, and September 1, 2020. Participants were assigned into the convalescent COVID-19 group if they had a previous COVID-19 infection during pregnancy or the healthy control group. RNA-Seq was performed on human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUMSCs) and human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs). Immunohistochemical staining, cytokine testing, lymphocyte subset analysis, RNA-Seq, and functional analyses were performed on the placental and umbilical cord blood (UCB) and compared between the two groups. Results A total of 40 pregnant women were enrolled, with 13 in the convalescent group and 27 in the control group. There were 1024, 46, and 32 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified in the placental tissue, hUMSCs, and hAMSCs between the convalescent and control groups, respectively. Enrichment analysis showed those DEGs were associated with immune homeostasis, antiviral activity, cell proliferation, and tissue repair. Levels of IL-6, TNF-α, total lymphocyte counts, B lymphocytes, Tregs percentages, and IFN-γ expressing CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were statistically different between two groups (p ≤ 0.05). ACE2 and TMPRSS2 expressed on the placenta were not different between the two groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion Multiple changes in immune responses occurred in the placental tissue, hUMSCs, and hAMSCs after maternal recovery from COVID-19, which might imply their protective roles against COVID-19 infection.

Abstract Background Considering the essential roles that genetic factors play in azoospermia and oligospermia, this study aims to identify abnormal chromosomes using karyotyping and CNVs and elucidate the associated genes in patients. Methods A total of 1157 azoospermia and oligospermia patients were recruited, of whom, 769 and 674 underwent next-generation sequencing (NGS) to identify CNVs and routine G-band karyotyping, respectively. Results First, 286 patients were co-analyzed using CNV sequencing (CNV-seq) and karyotyping. Of the 725 and 432 patients with azoospermia and oligospermia, 33.8% and 48.9% had abnormal karyotypes and CNVs, respectively. In particular, 47,XXY accounted for 44.18% and 26.33% of abnormal karyotypes and CNVs, respectively, representing the most frequent genetic aberration in azoospermia and oligospermia patients. Nevertheless, big Y and small Y accounted for 7.46% and 16.67% of abnormal karyotypes, respectively. We also identified high-frequency CNVs-loci, such as Xp22.31 and 2p24.3, in azoospermia and oligospermia patients. Conclusion Sex chromosome and autosomal CNV loci, such as Xp22.31 and 2p24.3, as well as the associated genes, such as VCX and NACAP9, could be candidate spermatogenesis genes. The high-frequency abnormal karyotypes, CNV loci, and hot genes represent new targets for future research.

Appropriate soluble carbohydrate (SCHO)-to-NDF ratios in the diet are essential for rumen health. The effects of different SCHO-to-NDF ratios (1.0, 1.5, and 2.0) on rumen barrier function and inflammation in Dumont lambs (n = 18, 6 replicates per treatment) was investigated. The SCHO:NDF ratio was altered by replacing the forage (Leynus chinensis) with corn grain. With an increase in the proportion of SCHO, the final body weight (FBW), average daily gain (ADG), soluble carbohydrate intake (SCHOI), and LPS level increased; and the neutral detergent fiber intake (NDFI), ruminal papillae height, papillae area, and pH decreased (p < 0.05, plin < 0.05). The medium CHO:NDF group had increased claudin-1 mRNA (p < 0.05, plin = 0.005, pquad = 0.003) and protein (p < 0.05, pquad < 0.001) levels; the high CHO:NDF group had increased occludin mRNA and protein (p < 0.05, plin = 0.001) levels. The level of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 was significantly greater in the medium CHO:NDF group than in the high CHO:NDF group (p < 0.05, pquad < 0.001). With an increase in the ratio of SCHO, the mRNA level and concentration of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α linearly increased (p < 0.05, plin < 0.05), and those in the high CHO:NDF group were significantly greater than those in the low CHO:NDF group. The levels of phosphorylated p65 (plin = 0.003), IκB-α (plin < 0.001), and JNK (plin = 0.001) increased linearly, and those in the high CHO:NDF group were significantly greater than those in the other two groups (p < 0.05). Therefore, when the SCHO-to-NDF ratio was increased to 1.5, the rumen epithelium was not affected, but when the ratio was increased to 2.0, NF-κB and MAPK were activated in the rumen epithelium, leading to impaired barrier function and inflammation. The suitable NFC:NDF ratio for the short-term fattening of Dumont lambs was found to be 1.50.

Mechanical water detection is recognized as the most reliable and safe production technology for coal mines, mainly for the detection of water hazards in pre-mining operations. Intelligent water detectors are currently the main research direction in mechanical water detection, and the automatic installation of drilling bars is the key to achieving intelligent water detection. Improving the connection accuracy in the process of installing drilling bars is an important research topic for the improvement of control links. To improve the connection accuracy of the drilling bars at the time of supplying material, we used the modified Denavit–Hartenberg method to analyze the motion gestures of the supplied material device and the Lagrange equation to establish a dynamic analysis model. We aimed at better control precision by improving the sliding mode control algorithm and at increasing the convergence rate of tracking errors with a sliding controller based on an exponential approximation law and using saturated functions instead of the symbol functions in the reaching law to weaken the vibration in the control process. We then used particle swarm optimization (PSO) to find the optimum combination parameters of the sliding mode controllers and test the performance of the sliding mode controllers before and after PSO with MATLAB/Simulink. The results showed that the optimized controller has a strong resistance to parameter fluctuations, and the system responds quickly, achieves a good performance, and improves the convergence rate of tracking errors.

ObjectiveBy examining fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) levels and performing pulmonary function testing, this study explored whether the multicenter study on the normal range of FeNO in children in China can be used to evaluate standardized treatment efficacy in 6- to 12-year-old children with asthma.MethodsA total of 115 children aged 6–12 years old who were first diagnosed with asthma and received standardized asthma treatment from April 2018 to July 2022 were selected. According to the FeNO level at the first visit, the subjects were divided into different high- and low-FeNO groups according to the American Thoracic Society (ATS) guidelines and the Chinese multicenter study recommendations. The consistency of the two grouping methods and the differences between the high- and low-FeNO groups were compared after standardized treatment. The grouping method that was the most suitable for children in the cross group was discussed.Results(i) There was fair consistency between the Chinese multicenter study recommendations and the ATS guidelines regarding the classification of high- and low-FeNO groups (Kappa = 0.338). ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different doses of Sophora alopecuroides (SA) on the rumen fermentation and microbial diversity of sheep.MethodsA total of 32 healthy Dumont crossbred male lambs weighing 25.73 ± 2.17 kg were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups with 8 replicates each: a control group (CG) fed a basal diet with a concentrate-to-forage ratio of 7:3 and three experimental groups - the 0.1% group(TG1), 0.3% group (TG2), and 0.5% group (TG3), which were fed the same basal diet but supplemented with increasing doses of SA.Results(1) Increasing the SA dose led to a significant linear increase (p-< 0.05) in acetate, propionate, butyrate, and total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) concentrations in the rumen, as well as a significant quadratic effect (p-< 0.05) on the propionate concentration. In contrast, there was a significant linear decrease (p-< 0.05) in the NH3-N concentration in the rumen. (2) At the level of rumen bacterial phyla, the abundance of Bacteroidetes in the rumen increased, and that of Firmicutes decreased (p = 0.08). At the genus level, the rumen abundances of Ruminococcus and Phocaeicola of sheep in the three experimental groups were significantly higher than in the control group (p-< 0.05), and the abundances of Clostridiales and Candidatus-Hepatincola were significantly increased in the 0.1% and 0.3% groups (p < 0.05). (3) Regarding rumen anaerobic fungi, the differences between the control group and experimental groups at the phylum level and genus level were not significant (p > 0.05), but the relative abundances of Neocallimastigomycota and Piromyces in the 0.1% group were significantly higher than that in the control group.ConclusionSA addition to a high grain diet could increase the VFA concentration and pH in the sheep rumen, reduce the NH3-N concentration in the rumen and improve rumen fermentation function. Although there was no significant change in rumen bacterial or fungal diversity, SA addition increased the rumen abundances of Bacteroidetes, Ruminococcus, Phocaeicola, Clostridiales, Neocallimastigomycota and Piromyces, decreased the rumen abundance of Firmicutes, and had a positive effect on the rumen microbiota to improve sheep health.

Introduction: There has been a lack of treatments available to lower the frequency of recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAUs) until now. Total glucosides of paeony (TGP) is a botanical drug extracted from the dried roots of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. [Ranunculaceae; Paeoniae Radix Alba]. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TGP in the treatment of RAU.Methods: This study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1900025623). Patients were randomly assigned to the TGP or placebo group and treated with 1.8 g/day for 24 weeks. Participants were observed for a total of 36 weeks and were asked to record ulcer severity, medication, and adverse reactions in the form of diaries or apps every day. The primary outcome was the monthly ulcer-free interval.Results: A total of 79 individuals were enrolled, with 40 assigned to the TGP group and 39 to the placebo group. The dropout rate was 18.18%. In the TGP group, the monthly ulcer-free interval was significantly longer than baseline (median, 9.6 days) since weeks 13–24 (median, 18.5 days) (p < 0.05), and after discontinuation, it was further prolonged (median, 24.7 days) than in weeks 13–24 (p < 0.05). In addition, the monthly ulcer-free interval was longer in the TGP group than in the placebo group (median, 15.9 days) at weeks 25—36 (p < 0.001). There were better improvements in the monthly number of ulcers and monthly area of ulcers, and visual analog scoring in the TGP group at weeks 25—36 (p < 0.001).Conclusion: TGP had a good long-term therapeutic effect on RAU with frequent occurrence.Systematic Review Registration:www.chictr.org.cn, identifier ChiCTR1900025623.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of Sophora alopecuroides (SA) on liver function, liver inflammatory factor levels, antioxidant indexes and transcriptome in sheep. Twenty-four 3-month-old healthy Dumont hybrid lambs weighing 25.73 ± 2.17 kg were randomly divided into three groups: C1 (the control group), fed a concentrate-to-forage ratio of 50:50; H2 (the high-concentration group), fed a concentrate-to-forage ratio of 70:30; and S3 (the SA group), fed a concentrate-to-forage ratio of 70:30 + 0.1% SA. The results showed that the rumen pH values of the C1 and S3 groups were significant or significantly higher than that of the H2 group (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01). The serum ALT, AST and LDH activities and the LPS and LBP concentrations in the sheep serum and liver in the H2 group were significantly or extremely significantly higher than those in the C1 and S3 groups (p < 0.01), and the IL-10 content and SOD, GPX-PX and T-AOC activities showed the opposite trend (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01). KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the differentially expressed genes were significantly enriched in the ECM–receptor interaction and focal adhesion pathways, which are closely related to immune and antioxidant functions (p-adjust < 0.1). In summary, SA could improve the immune and antioxidant functions of lamb livers under high-concentrate conditions and regulate the mechanism of damage on sheep livers, which is caused by high-concentrate diets and through the expression of related genes in the ECM/FAs pathway.

Abstract Background miR-203 was first indicated in maintaining skin homeostasis and innate immunity. Aberrant expression of miR-203 was found associated with pathological progressions of immune disorders, cancers, as well as neurodegenerations. Recently, increasing data on miR-203 in regulating neuroinflammation and neuronal apoptosis has raised extensive concern about the biological function of this microRNA. Methods Mouse model with ectopic miR-203 expression in the hippocampus was constructed by stereotactic injection of lentiviral expression vector of pre-miR-203. Association of miR-203 and mRNA of Akirin2, as well as the competition for miR-203 targeting between Akirin2 3ʹUTR and another recently characterized miR-203 target, 14-3-3θ, was verified using Dual-Luciferase Reporter Gene Assay and western blot. Microglia activation and pro-inflammatory cytokines expression in the hippocampus of mice overexpressing miR-203 was evaluated using immunohistochemistry analysis and western blot. Neuronal cell death was monitored using anti-caspase 8 in immunohistochemistry as well as TUNEL assay. Cognition of mice was assessed with a behavior test battery consisting of nesting behavior test, Barnes maze and fear conditioning test. Results Akirin2, an activator of NF‐κB signaling, was identified as a direct target of miR-203. By also targeting 14-3-3θ, a negative regulator of NF‐κB signaling, miR-203 displayed an overall pro-inflammatory role both in vitro and in vivo. Promoted nuclear translocation of NF‐κB and increased expression of proinflammatory cytokines were observed in cultured BV2 cells transfected with miR-203 mimics. Microglia activation and upregulation of NF‐κB, IL-1β and IL-6 were observed in mouse hippocampus with overexpression of miR-203. In addition, promoted neuronal cell death in the hippocampus and impaired neuronal activities resulted in cognitive dysfunction of mice with ectopic miR-203 expression in the hippocampus. Conclusion A pro-inflammatory and neurodisruptive role of miR-203 was addressed based on our data in this study. Given the identification of Akirin2 as a direct target of miR-203 and the competition with 14-3-3θ for miR-203 targeting, together with the findings of other signaling molecules in NF‐κB pathway as targets of miR-203, we proposed that miR-203 was a master modulator, fine-tunning neuroinflammation by juggling different components of NF‐κB signaling.

This paper takes the supply chain alliance under the decoupling of the front and back of the all-for-one tourism as the research object. Considering the three behavior stimuli of self-benefit, altruism, and invariance, this article resets the attributes such as environmental stimuli and response threshold of ants based on the characteristics of the all-for-one tourism supply chain with shared services as the core under the decoupling of the front and back. Moreover, it introduces dual intervention factors to coordinate the benefit distribution process of different member companies, takes fairness as the main goal of benefit distribution, introduces relative deprivation as the measure index of fairness, and establishes a dynamic all-for-one tourism supply chain alliance benefit distribution model. The experimental results show that the extended model has good flexibility of benefit distribution and realizes the fair distribution of supply chain benefits.

Doxorubicin is the most effective anthracycline chemotherapy drug in the treatment of cancer, and it is an effective single agent in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). There is a lack of studies on the differentially expressed doxorubicin metabolism-related lncRNAs in NSCLC. In this study, we extracted related genes from the TCGA database and matched them with lncRNAs. Doxorubicin metabolism-related lncRNA-based gene signatures (DMLncSig) were gradually screened from univariate regression, LASSO regression, and multivariate regression analysis, and the risk score model was constructed. These DMLncSig were subjected to a GO/KEGG analysis. We then used the risk model to construct the TME model and analyze drug sensitivity. The IMvigor 210 immunotherapy model was cited for validation. Eventually, we performed tumor stemness index differences, survival, and clinical correlation analyses.

Uranium is a radioactive heavy metal and a significant public health concern; however, its associated underlying toxicological mechanisms remain largely unknown. In this work, the uptake and efflux processes of uranium in CHO-k1 cells were studied and the cytotoxicity effects were explored. It was found that both the uptake and efflux processes took place rapidly and half of the internalized uranium was expelled within 8 h. The uranium exposure caused a decrease of cell viability and adhesion ability in a dose-dependent manner and blocked the cell cycle at the G1 stage. In addition, gene expression analysis revealed relative changes in the transcription of metabolism related genes. Further studies revealed that the cytotoxicity of uranium could be alleviated by exposing cells to a lower temperature or by the addition of amantadine-HCl, an endocytosis inhibitor. Interestingly, after uranium exposure, needle-like precipitates were observed in both intracellular and extracellular regions. These findings collectively suggest that the cellular transport of uranium is a rapid process that disturbs cell metabolism and induces cytotoxicity, and this impact could be reduced by slowing down endocytic processes.

Hericium erinaceus (HE), a widely utilized natural remedy and dietary source, has garnered significant attention for its therapeutic potential in various diseases. In this study, we employed supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) technology to isolate the bioactive compounds from HE’s fruiting body. Comprehensive assessments of the antioxidant and antibacterial activities were conducted, along with in vitro investigations on the human colon cancer cell line (HCT-8). The SFE rate served as the evaluation metric, while the variables of extraction time, pressure, and temperature were systematically examined. By integrating the response surface center composite design, we successfully optimized the extraction process, yielding optimal parameters of 80 min, 30 MPa, and 35 °C, thus resulting in an extraction rate of 2.51%. These optimized conditions exhibited considerable antioxidant capacity, anticancer activity, and antibacterial potential. Furthermore, we employed graded alcohol extraction to refine the crude extracts, thereby confirming superior anticancer effects under a 70% alcohol precipitation. To elucidate the composition, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were employed to analyze the crude extracts and isolates of HE, facilitating a comparative analysis of six HE varieties. Our findings suggest that sterol derivatives hold promise as the active component against the colon cancer HCT-8 cell line. In conclusion, this study underscores the potential of HE SFE in the development of functional foods or alternative drugs for colon cancer treatment, thus opening new avenues for therapeutic interventions.

A role for ferroptosis in articular cartilage destruction associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has not been identified. We previously reported transient receptor potential melastatin 7 (TRPM7) expression was correlated with RA cartilage destruction. Herein, we further characterized a role for TRPM7 in chondrocyte ferroptosis. The expression of TRPM7 was found to be elevated in articular chondrocytes derived from adjuvant arthritis (AA) rats, human RA patients, and cultured chondrocytes treated with the ferroptosis inducer, erastin. TRPM7 knockdown or pharmacological inhibition protected primary rat articular chondrocytes and human chondrocytes (C28/I2 cells) from ferroptosis. Moreover, TRPM7 channel activity was demonstrated to contribute to chondrocyte ferroptosis by elevation of intracellular Ca2+. Mechanistically, the PKCα-NOX4 axis was found to respond to stimulation with erastin, which resulted in TRPM7-mediated chondrocyte ferroptosis. Meanwhile, PKCα was shown to directly bind to NOX4, which could be reduced by TRPM7 channel inhibition. Adeno-associated virus 9-mediated TRPM7 silencing or TRPM7 blockade with 2-APB alleviated articular cartilage destruction in AA rats and inhibited chondrocyte ferroptosis. Collectively, both genetic and pharmacological inhibitions of TRPM7 attenuated articular cartilage damage and chondrocyte ferroptosis via the PKCα-NOX4 axis, suggesting that TRPM7-mediated chondrocyte ferroptosis is a promising target for the prevention and treatment of RA.

Preimplantation genetic testing plays a critical role in enabling a balanced translocation carrier to obtain the normal embryo. Identifying the precise breakpoints for the carriers with phenotypic abnormity, allows us to reveal disrupted genes. In this study, a seemingly balanced translocation 46, XX, t (3; 6) (q29; q26) was first detected using conventional karyotype analysis. To locate the precise breakpoints, whole genomes of DNA were sequenced based on the nanopore GridION platform, and bioinformatic analyses were further confirmed by polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) and copy number variation (CNV). Nanopore sequencing results were consistent with the karyotype analysis. Meanwhile, two breakpoints were successfully validated using polymerase-chain-reaction and Sanger Sequencing. LOC105378102 and LMLN genes were disrupted at the breakpoint junctions. Notably, observations found that seemingly balanced translocation was unbalanced due to a cryptic 269 kilobases (Kb) microduplication and a 25 bp deletion at the breakpoints of chromosome (chr) 6 and chr 3, respectively. Furthermore, 269 Kb microduplication was also confirmed by copy number variation analyses. In summary, nanopore sequencing was a rapid and direct method for identifying the precise breakpoints of a balanced translocation despite low coverage (3.8×). In addition, cryptic deletion and duplication were able to be detected at the single-nucleotide level.

In this paper, we state and establish a new fixed point theorem for generalized Ćirić-type contraction in Kaleva-Seikkala’s type fuzzy b-metric space. Our results improve and extend some well-known results in the literature. Some examples are given to support our result. Finally, as an application, we show the existence and uniqueness of solution to Volterra integral equation formulated in Kaleva–Seikkala’s type fuzzy b-metric space.

Abstract Maize is China’s largest grain crop. Mechanical grain harvesting is the key technology in maize production, and the kernel moisture concentration (KMC) is the main controlling factor in mechanical maize harvesting in China. The kernel dehydration rate (KDR) is closely related to the KMC. Thus, it is important to conduct genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of the KMC and KDR in maize, detect relevant quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs), and mine relevant candidate genes. Here, 132 maize inbred lines were used to measure the KMC every 5 days from 10 to 40 days after pollination (DAP) in order to calculate the KDR. These lines were genotyped using a maize 55K single-nucleotide polymorphism array. QTNs for the KMC and KDR were detected based on five methods (mrMLM, FASTmrMLM, FASTmrEMMA, pLARmEB, and ISIS EM-BLASSO) in the package mrMLM. A total of 334 significant QTNs were found for both the KMC and KDR, including 175 QTNs unique to the KMC and 178 QTNs unique to the KDR; 116 and 58 QTNs were detected among the 334 QTNs by two and more than two methods, respectively; and 9 and 5 QTNs among 58 QTNs were detected in 2 and 3 years, respectively. A significant enrichment in cellular component was revealed by Gene Ontology enrichment analysis of candidate genes in the intervals adjacent to the 14 QTNs and this category contained five genes. The information provided in this study may be useful for further mining of genes associated with the KMC and KDR in maize.

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) generation based on metasurfaces has attracted tremendous interest due to its potential in capacity enhancement of high-speed wireless communication systems. Reconfigurability is one of the key desired characteristics for the design of future metasurfaces. In this paper, a metasurface taking advantage of vanadium dioxide (VO2) is proposed. The proposed design can generate a non-diffractive OAM beam and achieve the multiple reconfigurability of the topological charge, beam radius, beam deflection angle. The operation frequency can be adjusted by controlling the state of VO2 at terahertz (THz) region. Simulation results demonstrate that the designed metasurface can generate a non-diffractive OAM beam with tunable topological charge and beam radius, propagating along ±x or ±y directions with the controllable deflection angle between 6.74° and 44.77°, ranging from 0.69 THz to 0.79 THz.

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) requirements from cooperative autonomous driving can be characterized as ultra-reliable, low latency, high traffic, and high mobility. These requirements introduce great challenges in the air interface and protocol stack design, resource allocation, network deployment, and all the way up to mobile (or multi-access) edge computing (MEC), cloud and application layer. In this paper, we present a cooperative autonomous driving oriented MEC-aided 5G-V2X prototype system design and the rationale behind the design choices. The prototype system is developed based on a next-generation radio access network (NG-RAN) experimental platform, a cooperative driving vehicle platoon, and an MEC server providing high definition (HD) 3D dynamic map service. Field tests are conducted and the results demonstrate that the combination of 5G-V2X, MEC and cooperative autonomous driving can be pretty powerful. Considering the remaining challenges in the commercial deployment of 5G-V2X networks and future researches, we propose two artificial intelligence (AI) based optimization tools. The first is a deep-learning-based tool called deep spatio-temporal residual networks with a permutation operator (PST-ResNet). By providing city-wide user and network traffic prediction, PST-ResNet can help to reduce the capital expense (CAPEX) and operating expense (OPEX) costs of commercial 5G-V2X networks. The second is a swarm intelligence based optimization tool called subpopulation collaboration based dynamic self-adaption cuckoo Search (SC-DSCS), which can be widely used to solve complex optimization problems in future researches. The effectiveness of proposed optimization tools is verified by real-world data and benchmark functions.

This paper reports a dual-polarized graphene-based multi-functional device which could switch between rasorber and absorber flexibly. The only difference between rasorber and absorber is that rasorber has a transmission window with low loss. Therefore, a wideband absorber is proposed at the first step. Then, four split-ring resonators (SRRs) are introduced to the absorber, which makes the electromagnetic (EM) energy could be reflected at the certain frequency band. The state (on/off) of SRRs and absorber can be controlled by the chemical potential of graphene. To find a new pathway for this part of the reflected energy, metal ground of the absorber is replaced by a reconfigurable graphene-based frequency selective surface (FSS). The proposed FSS could be switched between FSS and metal plate by controlling the chemical potential of graphene ring embedded in the bottom metal layer. Therefore, the proposed multi-functional device could be obtained by combing the absorber with SRRs and reconfigurable FSS. When the proposed device serves as a rasorber, it has an absorption-transmission-absorption response with superior selectivity. When it performs as an absorber, it has wideband performance with high absorptive rate. It is an attractive candidate for stealth applications.

A novel bandpass frequency selective surface (FSS) working at 2.4 GHz is proposed in this paper based on metasurface with independent-polarization, wide rejection band and good angular stability. The 10-dB upper stopband could cover 3.35-9.4 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 94.9%. In addition, the filtering response could remain stable under different polarizations and incidence angles. Parameter analysis and equivalent circuit model are illustrated to explain the resonance behavior of the proposed FSS. It is demonstrated that the lower resonant point in the stopband could be tuned independently by changing the length of small rectangular patches in the top layer. While the higher resonant point could be changeable independently by adjusting the diameter of circular gap in the bottom layer. A prototype of the proposed FSS is fabricated and its simulated results are coincided with measurements.

Background: The identification of aortic dissection (AD) at baseline plays a crucial role in clinical practice. Non-contrast CT scans are widely available, convenient, and easy to perform. However, the detection of AD on non-contrast CT scans by radiologists currently lacks sensitivity and is suboptimal.Methods: A total of 452 patients who underwent aortic CT angiography (CTA) were enrolled retrospectively from two medical centers in China to form the internal cohort (341 patients, 139 patients with AD, 202 patients with non-AD) and the external testing cohort (111 patients, 46 patients with AD, 65 patients with non-AD). The internal cohort was divided into the training cohort (n = 238), validation cohort (n = 35), and internal testing cohort (n = 68). Morphological characteristics were extracted from the aortic segmentation. A deep-integrated model based on the Gaussian Naive Bayes algorithm was built to differentiate AD from non-AD, using the combination of the three-dimensional (3D) deep-learning model score and morphological characteristics. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs), accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were used to evaluate the model performance. The proposed model was also compared with the subjective assessment of radiologists.Results: After the combination of all the morphological characteristics, our proposed deep-integrated model significantly outperformed the 3D deep-learning model (AUC: 0.948 vs. 0.803 in the internal testing cohort and 0.969 vs. 0.814 in the external testing cohort, both p < 0.05). The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of our model reached 0.897, 0.862, and 0.923 in the internal testing cohort and 0.730, 0.978, and 0.554 in the external testing cohort, respectively. The accuracy for AD detection showed no significant difference between our model and the radiologists (p > 0.05).Conclusion: The proposed model presented good performance for AD detection on non-contrast CT scans; thus, early diagnosis and prompt treatment would be available.

The present study aimed to better understand the possibility of utilizing all-trans retinoic acids (ATRA) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We found that ATRA significantly suppressed global translation and protein synthesis in AML cells. The efficacy of ATRA in treating AML required its translational regulatory functions, as shown by the fact that the decrease in the universal eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) was essential to maintain the induction of cell growth arrest and differentiation by ATRA. By establishing a specific translational landscape, we suggested that transcripts with simple 5′UTR gained a translational advantage in AML cells during ATRA stress. Based on that, the genes translationally regulated by ATRA were mainly enriched in phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/Akt (PI3K/AKT) signaling; we subsequently revealed that PI3K/AKT activation was required for ATRA to effectively induce AML cell differentiation. However, PI3K/AKT has been reported to promote the stemness of AML cells. As such, we further suggested that sequential treatment including ATRA and PI3K/AKT inhibitor induced robust apoptosis, extremely inhibited the clonality of AML cells, and suppressed the FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3-internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD)-driven transformation of CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. Future clinical studies are warranted to further support the clinical application of the sequential strategy for the effective treatment of AML.

This paper reports a dual-polarized frequency-selective rasorber that has a transmission window with low insertion loss and two absorption bands at both sides of the passband. Equivalent circuit and simple design guidelines for rasorber design are further developed. First, the notch structure with high Q is used to make the absorber realize the notch characteristic. Then, a frequency selective surface is utilized to replace the ground of the absorber. Note that the center frequency of the passband is consistent with the notch frequency. Therefore, the incident power is allowed to penetrate the proposed rasorber with a low insertion loss and transmissive behavior of the proposed rasorber is realized by this way. In addition, it is found that the main transmission band and lower absorption bands almost maintain stable performances in the angular range of 0° to 35°, while the upper absorption bands get slightly worse as angular range increases for both the TE and TM incidences. A rasorber prototype has been fabricated to experimentally validate the principle and design approach. The measurements agree reasonably with the simulated ones. Finally, a broadband and high-selectivity rasorber is achieved simultaneously.

Triterpenoid saponins constitute a diverse class of bioactive compounds in medicinal plants. Salicylic acid (SA) is an efficient elicitor for secondary metabolite production, but a transcriptome-wide regulatory network of SA-promoted triterpenoid saponin biosynthesis remains little understood. In the current study, we described the establishment of the hairy root culture system for Psammosilene tunicoides, a triterpenoid saponin-producing medicinal herb in China, using genetic transformation by Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Compared to controls, we found that total saponin content was dramatically increased (up to 2.49-fold) by the addition of 5 mg/L SA in hairy roots for 1 day. A combination of single-molecule real-time (SMRT) and next-generation sequencing (Illumina RNA-seq) was generated to analyze the full-length transcriptome data for P. tunicoides, as well as the transcript profiles in treated (8 and 24 h) and non-treated (0 h) groups with 5 mg/L SA in hairy roots. A total of 430,117 circular consensus sequence (CCS) reads, 16,375 unigenes and 4,678 long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were obtained. The average length of unigenes (2,776 bp) was much higher in full-length transcriptome than that derived from single RNA-seq (1,457 bp). The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were mainly enriched in the metabolic process. SA up-regulated the unigenes encoding SA-binding proteins and antioxidant enzymes in comparison with controls. Additionally, we identified 89 full-length transcripts encoding enzymes putatively involved in saponin biosynthesis. The candidate transcription factors (WRKY, NAC) and structural genes (AACT, DXS, SE, CYP72A) might be the key regulators in SA-elicited saponin accumulation. Their expression was further validated by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). These findings preliminarily elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of SA on triterpenoid saponin biosynthesis in the transcriptomic level, laying a foundation for SA-elicited saponin augmentation in P. tunicoides.

Embryonic chromosomal abnormality is one of the significant causative factors of early pregnancy loss. Our goal was to evaluate the clinical utility of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology in identifying chromosomal anomalies associated with first-trimester pregnancy loss. In addition, we attempted to provide fertility guidance to couples anticipating a successful pregnancy. A total of 1,010 miscarriage specimens were collected between March 2016 and January 2019 from women who suffered first-trimester pregnancy loss. Total DNA was isolated from products of conception, and NGS analysis was carried out. We detected a total of 634 cases of chromosomal variants. Among the 634 cases, 462 (72.9%) displayed numerical variants including 383 (60.4%) aneuploidies, 44 (6.9%) polyploidies, and 34 (5.5%) mosaicisms. The other 172 (27.1%) cases showed structural variants including 19 (3.0%) benign copy number variations (CNVs), 52 (8.2%) pathogenic CNVs, and 101 (16%) variants of unknown significance (VOUS) CNVs. When maternal age was ≥ 35 years, the sporadic abortion (SA) group showed an increased frequency of chromosomal variants in comparison with the recurrent miscarriage (RM) group (90/121 vs. 64/104). It was evident that the groups with advanced maternal age had a sharply increased frequency of aneuploidy, whatever the frequency of pregnancy loss (71/121 vs. 155/432, 49/104 vs. 108/349). Our data suggest that NGS could be used for the successful detection of genetic anomalies in pregnancy loss. We recommend that fetal chromosome analysis be offered routinely for all pregnancy losses, regardless of their frequency.

Cardiotocography (CTG) is the basic method of monitoring foetal condition in the perinatal period. However, due to the limited insight into the CTG generation mechanism, some CTG recordings can be mistreated as a predictor of neonatal asphyxia, leading to a wrong assessment of the foetal status and improper obstetric intervention. Therefore, in case of suspicious CTG indications, a reliable verification of the true foetal status is vital for reducing the clinical diagnosis false-positive rate and avoiding the unnecessary obstetrician intervention. The paper presents the results obtained for 44 foetuses on the shares of three heart rate variation (HRV) ranges and quiet sleep cycles. This approach uses the parameters of the HRV range shares and quiet sleep cycles to analyse different types of foetuses. The results obtained show that most parameters reveal significant differences between normal and suspicious groups. This is quite lucrative for defining a set of coefficients, whose incorporation into a classifier will improve the accuracy of distinguishing the normal foetuses from suspicious ones.

A compact single-layer series-type feeding network is proposed by utilizing two dual-band frequency-independent couplers in this paper. The overall size of the feeding network is further reduced by meandering the transmission lines. The proposed feeding network is quite suitable in the design of wideband circularly polarized antenna due to its wideband performance, identical amplitude and flat 90° successive shifts between two arbitrary adjacent ports. Based this, a wideband circularly polarized antenna for satellite application (L band and S band) is presented, fabricated, and measured employing the proposed feeding network. Four feeding strips are introduced to enhance the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of the proposed antenna. The simulated AR bandwidth extends from 14.7% to 34.5% by loading the four feeding strips. The measured results indicate that the proposed antenna has numerous advantages, such as low-cost, low-profile (0.07λ0), wideband, high gain, wide AR bandwidth, and excellent circularly polarized feature. Note that the measurements agree reasonably well with the simulations.

A wideband and high gain cavity-backed 4 × 4 patch antenna array is proposed in this paper. Each patch antenna element of the array is enclosed by a rectangular cavity and differentially-fed by the slot underneath. By optimizing the geometry of the radiating patch and the cavity, a very uniform E-field distribution at the antenna aperture is achieved, leading to the high array aperture efficiency and thus the gain. Taking advantages of the higher-order substrate integrated cavity excitation, the elements of the array are efficiently fed with the same amplitude and phase in a simplified feeding mechanism instead of the conventional bulky and lossy power-splitter-based feeding network. Measured results show the antenna bandwidth is from 56 to 63.1-GHz (16.1%) with the peak gain reaching 21.4 dBi. The radiation patterns of the array are very stable over the entire frequency band and the cross-polarizations are as low as -30 dB. These good characteristics demonstrate that the proposed array can be a good candidate for the future 60-GHz communication system applications.

In this paper, a novel method for generating a circularly polarized (CP) quasi-non-diffractive vortex wave carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM), based on the microwave holographic metasurface integrated with a monopole, is proposed. This method is the combination of the non-diffraction theory and the principle of waveguide-fed-based holography and is equivalent to a superposition of two scalar impedance modulation surfaces. To verify the proposed method, a holographic metasurface generating a left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) quasi-non-diffractive vortex wave carrying −1 mode OAM at the normal direction, was simulated and analyzed. The metasurface consisted of inhomogeneous slot units on a grounded substrate and a monopole excitation. Moreover, the location distribution of slots was determined by a computed interferogram between the reference wave and the object wave with the non-diffractive feature. Compared with an ordinary vortex wave, the quasi-non-diffractive wave obtained by our proposed method possessed a smaller divergence radius and a stronger electric field strength in the 9 times wavelength range. It paved a new path for manipulating the non-diffractive vortex wave in medium distance without using an external feeding source, which holds great potential for the miniaturization devices applied in medium-distance high-capacity secure communication, high-resolution imaging and intelligent detection.

In this paper, a frequency-selective dual-polarization rasorber with absorption-transmission-absorption response is presented. The transmission window could be tunable when the chemical potentials of graphene loaded on the proposed rasorber are changed. An absorber is designed first, and then a graphene-based notch resonator is added, which causes the phase to change suddenly. Hence, part of the electromagnetic (EM) waves cannot be absorbed by the absorber but reflected. The notch frequency could be variable by changing the chemical potential of graphene ring embedded in the notch resonator. After that, a tunable bandpass frequency-selective surface (FSS) is designed to replace the ground of the absorber. Therefore, the proposed FSS could provide a new path for this part of the reflected EM waves. The operating frequency of FSS could be tuned by the chemical potential of graphene ring loaded on FSS, which should be consistent with notch frequency. The rasorber could be scalable to the infrared and visible frequencies, and could be used as tunable sensors, radome, cloaking, filters and photovoltaic devices. Fetal nerve maturation is a dynamic process, which is reflected in fetal movement and fetal heart rate (FHR) patterns. Classical FHR variability (fHRV) indices cannot fully reflect their complex interrelationship. This study aims to provide an alternative insight for fetal neural development by using the coupling analysis of uterine electromyography (UEMG) and FHR acceleration. We investigated 39 normal pregnancies with appropriate for gestational age (AGA) and 19 high-risk pregnancies with small for gestational age (SGA) at 28–39 weeks. The UEMG and FHR were recorded simultaneously by a trans-abdominal device during the night (10 p.m.−8 a.m.). Cross-wavelet analysis was used to characterize the dynamic relationship between FHR and UEMG. Subsequently, a UEMG-FHR coupling index (UFCI) was extracted from the multiscale coupling power spectrum. We examined the gestational-age dependency of UFCI by linear/quadratic regression models, and the ability to screen for SGA using binary logistic regression. Also, the performances of classical fHRV indices, including short-term variation (STV), averaged acceleration capacity (AAC), and averaged deceleration capacity (ADC), time- and frequency- domain indices, and multiscale entropy (MSE), were compared as references on the same recordings. The results showed that UFCI provided a stronger age predicting value with R2 = 0.480, in contrast to the best value among other fHRV indices with R2 = 0.335, by univariate regression models. Also, UFCI achieved superior performance for predicting SGA with the area under the curve (AUC) of 0.88, compared with 0.79 for best performance of other fHRV indices. The present results indicate that UFCI provides new information for early detection and comprehensive interpretation of intrauterine growth restriction in prenatal diagnosis, and helps improve the screening of SGA.

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a potential human carcinogen that poses a significant concern in food safety and public health. OTA has been found in a wide variety of agricultural commodities, including cereal grains. This study investigated the reduction of OTA during the preparation of rice- and oat-based porridge by a simulated indirect steam process. The effects of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and fructose on the reduction of OTA were also investigated. During the processing, OTA in rice- and oat-porridge was decreased by 59% and 14%, respectively, from initial OTA artificially added at 20 μg/kg (dry weight basis). When 0.5% and 1% of sodium bicarbonate were added to rice porridge, increased reduction of OTA was observed as 78% and 68%, respectively. The same amounts of added sodium bicarbonate also further reduced OTA in oat porridge to 58% and 72%, respectively. In addition, increased reduction of OTA in the presence of fructose was observed. A combination of the two, i.e., 0.5% sodium bicarbonate and 0.5% fructose, resulted in a 79% and 67% reduction in rice porridge and oat porridge, respectively. These results indicate that indirect steaming may effectively reduce OTA in preparation of porridge-type products, particularly when sodium bicarbonate and/or fructose are added.

To analyze the thermal response of building steel structure components in fire. The study stimulates indoor fire scene by the finite element software application, and designs the correlative parameters according to the possible steel structure reaction in the actual fire scene, and analyzes the thermal response of the steel structure members combined with the simulation results. The study found that steel structure components may be deformed or displaced because of fire heating, which will affect the overall performance and stability of building steel structure. The simulation of thermal response of building steel structure components does favor to prevent fire, so the study has applied research value.

In this paper, a graphene-based frequency selective surface (FSS) is proposed. The proposed FSS exhibits a tunable bandpass filtering characteristic due to the alterable conductivity of the graphene strips which is controlled by chemical potential. Based on the reconfigurable bandpass property of the proposed FSS, a cylindrical antenna radome is designed using the FSS unit cells. A conventional omnidirectional dipole can realize a two-beam directional pattern when it is placed into the proposed antenna radome. Forward and backward endfire radiations of the dipole loaded with the radome is realized by properly adjusting the chemical potential. The proposed antenna radome is extremely promising for beam-scanning in terahertz and mid-infrared plasmonic devices and systems when the gain of a conventional antenna needs to be enhanced.

Background and objective With development of modern medicine, eliminating patients’ pain and mental disorder and improving the quality of life has become an important problem in patients with cancer. The aim of this study is to observe the impact of chemotherapy on quality of life and influencing factor of quality of life among lung cancer patients. Methods Sixty-one lung cancer patients were assessed with clinical outcomes and the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaires before chemotherapy, one week after 2 cycles of chemotherapy, one week after 4 cycles of chemotherapy. Results After 2 cycles of chemotherapy, effective rate was 40.0%. Social function decreased. Nause and vomiting, insomnia and appetite loss deteriorated (P0.05). Grouped according to the plasma albumin level, the difference wasn’t statistically significant (P>0.05). In hypoproteinemia group, symptoms and economic difficulties score was higher; High protein group, function and general health scores was higher. Conclusion After the chemotherapy, patients’ the lesion of cancer became smaller and clinical symptoms relieved, but some patients, fatigue, appetite loss, nausea and vomiting symptom deteriorated, emotion became bad. Quality of life of lung cancer patients decrease. We should pay more attention to the adverse reactions of chemotherapy and cope with them, give positive psychological intervention and improve patients, nutrition to improve the quality of life.

A transformation-optics based method to design a conformal antenna array on an arbitrary polygon surface is proposed and demonstrated in this paper. This conformal antenna array can be adjusted to behave equivalently as a uniformly spaced linear array by applying an appropriate transformation medium. An typical example of general arbitrary polygon conformal arrays, not limited to circular array, is presented, verifying the proposed approach. In summary, the novel arbitrary polygon surface conformal array can be utilized in array synthesis and beam-forming, maintaining all benefits of linear array.

The molecular defects which lead to multistep incidences of human T-cell leukemia have yet to be identified. The DNA-binding protein Helios (known as IKZF2), a member of the Ikaros family of Krüppel-like zinc-finger proteins, functions pivotally in T-cell differentiation and activation. In this study, we identify three novel short Helios splice variants which are T-cell leukemic specific, and demonstrate their dominant-negative function. We then test the cellular localization of distinct Helios isoforms, as well as their capability to form heterodimer with Ikaros, and the association with complexes comprising histone deacetylase (HDAC). In addition, the ectopic expression of T-cell leukemic Helios isoforms interferes with T-cell proliferation and apoptosis. The gene expression profiling and pathway analysis indicated the enrichment of signaling pathways essential for gene expression, translation, cell cycle checkpoint, and response to DNA damage stimulus. These data indicate the molecular function of Helios to be involved in the leukemogenesis and phenotype of T-cell leukemia, and also reveal Helios deregulation as a novel marker for T-cell leukemia.

A novel circular polarized rectenna with out-of-band suppression is proposed in this paper. The circular polarization is realized by corner perturbation on a rectangular radiation patch and enhanced by a diagonal slim slot etched at the center of the patch. An open stub connecting to the quarter wavelength impedance transformer is used to suppress out-of-band wave through harmonics notching. The results of simulations and experiments agree very well, which show that the rectenna obtained −19 dB return loss at 2.4 GHz and −15.5 dB, −18.1 dB, and −11.4 dB suppression on second, third, and fourth harmonic frequency bands, respectively. The reflection coefficient in overall out-of-band, up to 10 GHz, is limited up to −3 dB. Integrated with a voltage doubling rectification circuit, the proposed rectenna can obtain 75.5% RF-to-DC conversion efficiency.

Background and objective This study aims to observe the changes in quality of life as well as the anxiety among lung cancer patients before and after chemotherapy. This work also aims to explore the effect of chemotherapy on quality of life and anxiety. Methods Fifty-eight lung cancer patients were evaluated based on clinical outcomes, EORTC QLQ-C30, and on SAS questionnaires before chemotherapy, one week after two courses of chemotherapy, and one week after four courses of chemotherapy.
