Abstract The microRNA156 (miR156) has been widely studied in plants, however, the characterization of the miR156 family of genes in wheat and their expression patterns under abiotic stress are not completely clear. In this study, a total of 20 miR156 family members, referred to as tae-miR156a to tae-miR156t, were identified in wheat with their loci mapped to various chromosomes. These members were divided into five subgroups: miR156a/b/c/d/e/f, miR156g/h/i, miR156j/k, miR156l/m/n/o/p/q, and miR156r/s/t. They were highly conserved during evolution. The prediction of cis-elements in the tae-MIR156(s) promoter region revealed that the tae-MIR156(s) had diverse cis-acting elements; of these, 15 tae-MIR156(s) and 6 tae-MIR156(s) were found to be drought-responsive elements and cold-responsive elements, respectively. And the prediction target genes of tae-miR156(s) are mainly SPL transcription factor genes. Expression analysis based on quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‒PCR) showed that miR156(s) have different expression levels in the various wheat tissues, and the subgroups’ response to abiotic stress varied. Among them, miR156g/h/i were strongly induced in the root of cold and heat stress, and miR156a/b/c/d/e/f were significantly increased in roots after drought stress, whereas miR156r/s/t were highly inhibited in leaves and roots after salt stress. These findings imply that tae-miR156(s) are involved in stress response in wheat, and they provide new fundamental knowledge for further analysis of the function of miR156 and its regulatory mechanism in response to abiotic stress.

Abstract In this comprehensive genome-wide study, we identified and classified 83 Xylanase Inhibitor Protein (XIP) genes in wheat, grouped into five distinct categories, to enhance understanding of wheat's resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB), a significant fungal threat to global wheat production. Our analysis reveals the unique distribution of XIP genes across wheat chromosomes, particularly at terminal regions, suggesting their role in the evolutionary expansion of the gene family. Several XIP genes lack signal peptides, indicating potential alternative secretion pathways that could be pivotal in plant defense against FHB. The study also uncovers the sequence homology between XIPs and chitinases, hinting at a functional diversification within the XIP gene family. Additionally, the research explores the association of XIP genes with plant immune mechanisms, particularly their linkage with plant hormone signaling pathways like abscisic acid and jasmonic acid. XIP-7A3, in particular, demonstrates a significant increase in expression upon FHB infection, highlighting its potential as a key candidate gene for enhancing wheat's resistance to this disease. This research not only enriches our understanding of the XIP gene family in wheat but also provides a foundation for future investigations into their role in developing FHB-resistant wheat cultivars. The findings offer significant implications for wheat genomics and breeding, contributing to the development of more resilient crops against fungal diseases.

A dynamic model is established to investigate the shimmy instability of a landing gear system, considering the influence of nonlinear damping. The stability criterion is utilized to determine the critical speed at which the landing gear system becomes unstable. The central manifold theorem and canonical method are employed to simplify the dynamic model of the landing gear. The first Lyapunov coefficient of the system is theoretically derived and verified using numerical simulation. Further investigation on the Hopf bifurcation characteristics and stability of the shimmy in the landing gear system is conducted. The results indicate that above a certain threshold speed, with a tire stability distance greater than half the tire length in contact with the ground plus the slack length, the aircraft remains stable during taxiing. At critical speeds, a shimmy system with higher-order nonlinear damping will undergo supercritical Hopf bifurcation. Quantitative analysis suggests an increase in the linear damping coefficient within a range that ensures a stability margin to mitigate undesired oscillation, while the nonlinear damping coefficient should be designed within a reasonable range to decrease the amplitude of the limit cycle.

Despite the ubiquity of the Boston naming test (BNT) in clinical practice and research, concerns have been expressed about its poor quality pictures, insufficient psychometric properties, and cultural bias in non-English language backgrounds. We modified the black-and-white BNT with a set of color pictures since color effects have been suggested to improve naming accuracy in the visual naming test. This study aimed to examine and compare the reliability and validity of the color-picture version of BNT (CP-BNT) and the black-and-white version of BNT (BW-BNT) to differentiate amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) or mild Alzheimer's disease (AD) from the cognitive normals. This study included two subgroups, and each subgroup had 101 normal controls, 51 aMCI, and 52 mild AD. One subgroup undertook BW-BNT and the other conducted CP-BNT. The reliability, convergent and discriminant validity, and the diagnostic accuracy of two versions of BNT were evaluated. The CP-BNT showed a greater area under the curve (AUC) than the BW-BNT for aMCI (80.3 vs.s 69.4%) and mild AD (93.5 vs. 77.6%). The CP-BNT also demonstrated better convergent validity with CDR global scores and better reliability (Cronbach's coefficient 0.66 for the CP-BNT vs. 0.55 for the BW-BNT). At the optimal cutoff value of spontaneous naming, the CP-BNT demonstrated improved sensitivity and specificity for differentiating mild AD from NC with a higher positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and lower false-positive rate. Compared with BW-BNT, CP-BNT is a more reliable and valid test to assess cognitive and naming impairment.

Aircraft are subject to small disturbances during taxiing, many of which are accidental and difficult to explain. Although nonlinear factors are considered in traditional analysis, Coulomb friction is generally ignored, and the interaction and common effects of nonlinear factors are mostly not discussed. In this paper, the dynamic model of shimmy is established, and the influence of Coulomb friction on shimmy is studied by using bifurcation theory and the structural mechanics analysis method. The results show that the system with Coulomb friction has subcritical Hopf bifurcation and that the system with square damping has supercritical Hopf bifurcation. Although the two do not change the stability of the system, their cooperation can improve the stability of the system. The Coulomb friction torque of the system has a complex piecewise functional relationship with the stability distance, rake angle, and acceleration. Some combinations will lead to very low Coulomb friction and deteriorate the anti-interference ability of the landing gear. This paper provides theoretical basis and support for the rational design of structural parameter collocation, enhancing the antidisturbance ability of the system during constant-speed or variable-speed taxis and explaining the shimmy phenomenon in the process of variable-speed taxis of some aircraft. A combination of electron cooling and rf system is an effective method to compress the beam bunch length in storage rings. A simulation code based on multiparticle tracking was developed to calculate the bunched ion beam cooling process, in which the electron cooling, intrabeam scattering (IBS), ion beam space-charge field, transverse and synchrotron motion are considered. Meanwhile, bunched ion beam cooling experiments have been carried out in the main cooling storage ring (CSRm) of the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou, to investigate the minimum bunch length obtained by the cooling method, and study the dependence of the minimum bunch length on beam and machine parameters. The experiments show comparable results to those from simulation. Based on these simulations and experiments, we established an analytical model to describe the limitation of the bunch length of the cooled ion beam. It is observed that the IBS effect is dominant for low intensity beams, and the space-charge effect is much more important for high intensity beams. Moreover, the particles will not be bunched for much higher intensity beam. The experimental results in CSRm show a good agreement with the analytical model in the IBS dominated regime. The simulation work offers us comparable results to those from the analytical model both in IBS dominated and space-charge dominated regimes.

We report a cladding-pumped Tm3+-doped domestic silica fiber laser operated at 2um and actively Q-switched with an acousto-optic modulator. Pulse trains are obtained as pumped by a 785 nm laser diode. The maximum average output power is 1.27W. Peak power up to 4.2kW and pulse energy up to 840 uJ are obtained with the pulse duration of 200 ns produced at a repetition rate of 1 kHz.
