Abstract

High-spatial-resolution imaging studies of the Pluto-Charon system at wavelengths J, H, K and two special band filters at 1.5 and 1.75 micrometers indicate the Charon-Pluto magnitude variation to be 1.8 micrometer at K, which is less than the value estimated by Bosh. The average magnitude variation at 1. 5 and 1.75 micrometer is 2.0 and 1.6, respectively. The large magnitude variation at 1.5 micrometer is caused by the water-frost absorption band on the surface of Charon.
