Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) is a form of primary immunodeficiency disorder characterised by hypogammaglobulinemia and recurrent sino-pulmonary infections. Its diagnosis is based on the presence of low serum IgG (< 2 SD below normal for age) with or without low IgA/ IgM levels and presentation beyond two years of age. These children also have disorders of autoimmunity with majority of them presenting as autoimmune cytopenias, predominantly thrombocytopenia and some having anaemia and neutropenias. Here we report a nine years old boy with past history of recurrent pneumonia, presenting this episode with fungal pneumonia, thrombocytopenia and anaemia eventually diagnosed as CVID. Despite remarkable developments in the nanoscience, relatively little is known about the physical (electrostatic) interactions of nanoparticles with bio macromolecules. These interactions can influence the properties of both nanoparticles and the bio-macromolecules. Understanding this biointerface is a prerequisite to utilize both nanoparticles and biomolecules for bioengineering. In this study, luminescent, water soluble CdTe quantum dots (QDs) capped with mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) were synthesized by organometallic method and then interaction between nanoparticles (QDs) and three different types of proteins (BSA, Lysozyme and Hemoglobin) were investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy at pH = 7.4. Based on fluorescence quenching results, Stern-Volmer quenching constant (Ksv), binding constant (Kq) and binding sites (n) for proteins were calculated. The results show that protein structure (e.g., globular, metalloprotein, etc.) has a significant role in Protein-Quantum dots interactions and each type of protein influence physicochemical properties of Quantum dots differently. In his Ph.D. Thesis of 1897, Dickson introduced certain permutation polynomials whose Galois groups are essentially the dihedral groups. These are now called Dickson polynomials of the first kind, to distinguish them from their variations introduced by Schur in 1923, which are now called Dickson polynomials of the second kind. In the last few decades there have been extensive investigations of both of these types, which are related to the classical Chebyshev polynomials. We give new bivariate factorizations involving both types of Dickson polynomials. These factorizations demonstrate certain isomorphisms between dihedral groups and orthogonal groups, and lead to the construction of explicit equations with orthogonal groups as Galois groups. There is increasing evidence for the role of wild-type p53 induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1) phosphatase in the regulation of tumorigenesis. To evaluate Wip1 as a breast cancer oncogene, we generated a mouse strain with targeted expression of Wip1 to the breast epithelium. We found that these mice are prone to cancer when intercrossed with transgenics expressing the ErbB2 oncogene but not conditional knockouts for Brca2. This tumor-prone phenotype of Wip1 is fully eliminated through attenuation of proliferation by activating the MKK6/p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) cascade in mice bearing a constitutively active form of MKK6. The DNA replication (or origin) licensing system ensures precise duplication of the genome in each cell cycle and is a powerful regulator of cell proliferation in metazoa. Studies in yeast, Drosophila melanogaster and Xenopus laevis have characterised the molecular machinery that constitutes the licensing system, but it remains to be determined how this important evolutionary conserved pathway is regulated in Homo sapiens. We have investigated regulation of the origin licensing factors Cdc6, Cdt1, Mcm2 and Geminin in human somatic and germ cells. Cdc6 and Cdt1 play an essential role in DNA replication initiation by loading the Mcm2-7 complex, which is required for unwinding the DNA helix, onto chromosomal origins. Geminin is a repressor of origin licensing that blocks Mcm2-7 loading onto origins. Our studies demonstrate that Cdc6, Cdt1 and Mcm2 play a central role in coordinating growth during the proliferation-differentiation switch in somatic self-renewing systems and that Cdc6 expression is rate-limiting for acquisition of replication competence in primary oocytes. In striking contrast, we show that proliferation control during male gametogenesis is not linked to Cdc6 or Mcm2, but appears to be coordinated by the negative regulator Geminin with Cdt1 becoming rate-limiting in late prophase. Our data demonstrate a striking sexual dimorphism in the mechanisms repressing origin licensing and preventing untimely DNA synthesis during meiosis I, implicating a pivotal role for Geminin in maintaining integrity of the male germline genome.
