Aim The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of lentinan on regulatory T cells (Tregs) in sepsis, especially on the generation of interleukin (IL)-10 via regulation of Erk–FoxO1 signaling. Methods BalB/c mice were randomized into five groups: sham group, the group with burns plus Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, and the groups with burns plus P. aeruginosa infection administered 40, 100, and 250mg/kg of lentinan. The mice were sacrificed on postburn days 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively, with eight animals per group at each time point. The peripheral blood CD4 + CD25 + Tregs and CD4 + T cells were isolated using magnetic microbeads. The phenotypes were analyzed by flow cytometry. The cytokine levels were determined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Signal transduction was studied by Western blot, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), and luciferase assay. Results The IL-10-producing capacity of CD4 + CD25 + Tregs was significantly enhanced in the group with burns plus P. aeruginosa infection, compared with the sham group. Administration of lentinan significantly decreased IL-10 production and FoxP3 expression of CD4 + CD25 + Tregs. The proliferative activities of CD4 + T cells, however, were restored. Lentinan decreased lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced IL-10 production in the Tregs isolated from burned mice. In addition, lentinan attenuated LPS-stimulated Erk–FoxO1 activation. Conclusions Lentinan may improve the outcome of postburn sepsis by suppressing LPS-triggered Erk–FoxO1 activation. Consequently, the hyperfunction of CD4 + CD25 + Tregs is inhibited, leading to a shift in the inflammatory status from Th2 to Th1 in postburn sepsis.

To study the impacts of structural change of SiO2 aerogel on its insulating properties, the samples were treated in long time (0-12h) at 500°C, 600°C, 700°C and 800°C. The results show that with the time increased, the shrink extends in thickness, the weight loss and the density is basically unchanged under the 500°Cand 600°C. As for 700°C and 800°C, the results were treated with 0-12h, the shrink extends in thickness, the weight loss and density increases considerably. Besides, the structure and composition of SiO2 aerogel after the different temperature treaded with 0.5h were tested. The results show that when the heat treatment temperature is between 200-800°C, the small pores in SiO2 aerogel collapses and large pores increase, and the density is stil1 able to maintain the 1ow value due to the unbroken skeleton. When the heat temperature is between 800-1000°C, the secondary particle size increases and the rnutual integration of the secondary particles occurs, the density will be significantly increased.

The title polymers PNIPzS4 and PCuPzS4 were synthesized by reaction of phthalonitrile and 2,3,5,6-tetracyano-1,4-dithiin with corresponding metal salt. Their structures and properties were characterized by associating the experimental results with MO and Cl calculations of the dimer molecule as model polymer in the ZINDO method. It has been found that the PNiPzS4 (or PCuPzS4) shows the semiconductivity at T 278 K (or 286 K) and the conductivity increase with a hoist of temperature at 253 K (or 260 K) < T < 278 K (or 286 K). The conductivity σ of the PNiPzS4 and PCuPzS4 under pressure 13.73 MPa is 1.56×10−4 and 9.33×10−5 S/cm, respectively.

The complete IR spectra of the title complex Ni(mnt)(bpy) (mnt=maleonitriledithiolate, bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) and a new method to analyze vibrational spectra for such a complicated metal complex are reported in this paper. The molecular geometry, binding, electronic structure and spectroscopic property of it have been studied in detail by theoretical calculations. The geometry optimization from PM3 calculations give that this molecule is of a planar structure with the symmetry point group C2v and its ground state is the spin triplet state. The vibrational and electronic spectra were calculated by PM3 and ZINDO/S methods, respectively. The scientific method of analyzing vibrational spectra is established herein by giving main fixed points and pivotal vibrational units. Besides the regular symbols, the new defined symbols η and M play an important role in describing the vibration modes accurately and vividly.

In the title compound, [ZnCl2(C12H17N3O3)], a mononuclear Schiff base zinc(II) complex, the Zn atom is tetrahedrally coordinated by one imine N atom and one phenolate O-atom of the Schiff base ligand and by two terminal chloride anions. In the crystal structure, symmetry-related molecules are linked through intermolecular N—H...Cl, N—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, forming chains running parallel to the b axis.

In the title compound, [Co(NCS)(2)(C(11)H(13)NO(2))(2)], a mononuclear Schiff base cobalt(II) complex, the Co atom is six-coordinated by four O atoms from two Schiff base ligands, and by two N atoms from two thio-cyanate ligands, forming a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The central Co atom lies on a twofold rotation axis. An intramolecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond is present.

In the title compound, [Ni(C14H19N2O)(NCS)], a mononuclear Schiff base nickel(II) complex, the Ni atom is four-coordinated by one imine N atom, one amine N atom and one phenolate O atom of the Schiff base ligand, and by one terminal N atom of the thio­cyanate ligand, forming a square-planar geometry. The piperidine ring adopts a chair conformation. No significant hydrogen bonding or π–π inter­actions are observed in the crystal structure.
