Introduction: There was limited research on the epidemiology of hyperphosphatemia in early-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. We aimed to explore the clinical characteristics and prognostic value of hyperphosphatemia in patients with CKD stages 1–2. Methods: We enrolled adult patients with CKD stages 1–2 from 24 regional central hospitals across China. Hyperphosphatemia was defined as a serum phosphate level exceeding 1.45 mmol/L. The study outcomes included all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality. Cox proportional hazard models were used to investigate the association of hyperphosphatemia with all-cause and CV mortality. Results: Among 99,266 patients with CKD stages 1–2 across China, the prevalence of hyperphosphatemia was 8.3%. The prevalence of hyperphosphatemia was increased with the level of urinary protein and was higher in younger and female patients. Among 63,121 patients with survival information, during a median of 5.2 years follow-up period, there were 436 (8.0%) and 4,695 (8.1%) deaths in those with and without hyperphosphatemia, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, compared with patients without hyperphosphatemia, patients with hyperphosphatemia were associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio: 1.28, 95% CI: 1.16–1.41). Although nearly 60.3% of hyperphosphatemia could be relieved without phosphate-lowering drug therapy among patients with CKD stages 1–2, transient hyperphosphatemia was also associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (p = 0.048). Conclusions: Hyperphosphatemia was not rare in patients with CKD stages 1–2 and was associated with an increased risk of mortality. Clinicians should closely monitor serum phosphorus levels in patients with CKD, even in those with normal kidney function.

Abstract Antiferromagnets have attracted significant attention in the field of magnonics, as promising candidates for ultralow-energy carriers for information transfer for future computing. The role of crystalline orientation distribution on magnon transport has received very little attention. In multiferroics such as BiFeO3 the coupling between antiferromagnetic and polar order imposes yet another boundary condition on spin transport. Thus, understanding the fundamentals of spin transport in such systems requires a single domain, a single crystal. We show that through Lanthanum (La) substitution, a single ferroelectric domain can be engineered with a stable, single-variant spin cycloid, controllable by an electric field. The spin transport in such a single domain displays a strong anisotropy, arising from the underlying spin cycloid lattice. Our work shows a pathway to understanding the fundamental origins of magnon transport in such a single domain multiferroic.

Hearing loss is a common disease. More than 100 genes have been reported to be associated with hereditary hearing loss. However, the distribution of these genes and their variants across diverse populations remains unclear. In this study, we gathered 347 hearing-impaired patients from four language families (Sinitic, Tibeto-Burman, Kra-Dai, and Hmong-Mien) in Southwestern China, excluding cases caused by common mutations in the GJB2 gene. By using next generation sequencing, 122 genes associated with hereditary hearing loss were analyzed on these patients. Rare candidate variants were identified in 71.93 % (264/347) of patients with hearing loss. The diagnostic rate varied around 10 % across different language families. The most frequently identified causative genes in successfully diagnosed cases were SLC26A4, MYO7A and TMPRSS3. Moreover, a substantial number of variants of unknown significance (VUS) were identified in our patient cohort. This underscores the critical need for establishing ethnicity-specific genomic databases for hearing loss. It will significantly improve the clinical diagnostic rate for hearing loss in this region.

The successful synthesis of the pentazolate anion (cyclo-N5−) has been a great breakthrough in the field of energetic materials. However, the detection methods for these energetic materials based on the pentazolate anion are quite rare. Herein, two fluorescent probes for cyclo-N5− anion were designed. Sensor 1 (TPE2N) was synthesized with a tetraphenylethylene functionalized by two cationic groups which can generate strong electrostatic interactions with pentazolate anion and result in specific fluorescent changes. Sensor 2 was designed based on sensor 1 and supramolecular cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]). The unique structural features of CB[7] provide sites for the interaction between the cations and N5− anion in its cavity, which would generate a platform for the detection and enhance the recognition performance. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) experiment and fluorescence titration experiment indicate the binding molar ratio between sensor 1 with CB[7] is 1:2. Both sensors display typical aggregation-induced emission (AIE) features and good water-solubility. The sensors demonstrate excellent sensitivity to pentazole hydrazine salt with high enhancement constant (sensor 1: 1.34 × 106; sensor 2: 3.78 × 106) and low limit of detection (LOD: sensor 1 = 4.33 μM; sensor 2 = 1.54 μM). The formation of an AIE-based supramolecular sensor effectively improves the sensitivity to N5− anion. In addition, the probes also have good selectivity of N5− anion salts. The research would shed some light on the design of novel fluorescent sensors to detect pentazolate-based molecules and provides an example of supramolecular chemistry combined with fluorescent probes.

Abstract Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) is a multiferroic material that exhibits both ferroelectricity and canted antiferromagnetism at room temperature, making it a unique candidate in the development of electric-field controllable magnetic devices. The magnetic moments in BiFeO3 are arranged into a spin cycloid, resulting in unique magnetic properties which are tied to the ferroelectric order. Previous understanding of this coupling has relied on average, mesoscale measurements. Using nitrogen vacancy-based diamond magnetometry, we observe the magnetic spin cycloid structure of BiFeO3 in real space. This structure is magnetoelectrically coupled through symmetry to the ferroelectric polarization and this relationship is maintained through electric field switching. Through a combination of in-plane and out-of-plane electrical switching, coupled with ab initio studies, we have discovered that the epitaxy from the substrate imposes a magnetoelastic anisotropy on the spin cycloid, which establishes preferred cycloid propagation directions. The energy landscape of the cycloid is shaped by both the ferroelectric degree of freedom and strain-induced anisotropy, restricting the spin spiral propagation vector to changes to specific switching events.

BackgroundMetabolic syndrome(MetS) and depression are independently associated with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) risk. However, little is known about the combined effect of MetS and depression on the risk of T2DM. The present study aims to prospectively explore the impact of MetS and depression on T2DM susceptibility among the Chinese general population.Methods6489 general population without T2DM adults in Southwest China were recruited from 2010 to 2012. Depression and MetS were prospectively assessed using a 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire(PHQ-9) and Guideline for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in China (2020 edition) (CDS2020) during 2016–2020, respectively. Modified Poisson regression models were conducted to estimate relative risk(RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) for independent and combined associations of MetS and depression with an incidence of T2DM.ResultsDuring a median follow-up of 6.6 years, 678 cases of T2DM were documented. Individuals with MetS were 1.33 times more likely to develop T2DM than those without MetS. The corresponding RR(95%CI) for depression with no depression was 1.45(1.22–1.72). Notably, compared with no MetS or depression, the multivariate-adjusted RR for a combined effect of MetS and depression on the risk of T2DM was 2.11(1.39–3.22). Moreover, an increased risk of T2DM was more apparent in those ≥ 60 years, males, and overweight.ConclusionsIndividuals with multimorbidity of MetS and depression are at a higher risk of T2DM compared with those with no MetS or depression.

A resilient innovation ecosystem is an important guarantee for enhancing industrial competitiveness. Knowledge spillover is the key driving force to enhance system resilience. Firstly, we use the MEREC-CoCoSo method to calculate the resilience level of the integrated circuit (IC) innovation ecosystem and analyze the evolution trajectory of the resilience before and after the emergence of the “stuck-neck” problem. Secondly, based on the panel data of 30 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government) in China from 2011 to 2021, this paper analyzes the mechanism of the impact of intra-regional knowledge spillovers on the resilience of IC innovation ecosystems using the fixed-effect model and analyzes the spatial effect of inter-regional knowledge spillovers on the resilience of innovation ecosystems using the spatial Durbin model under the human capital matrix. Finally, we analyze the regulating role of contractual and relational governance mechanisms and try to open the “black box” of governance. The result shows the following: (1) The polarization of innovative ecosystem resilience of integrated circuits is gradually increasing, with strong spatial agglomeration, high–high agglomeration, low–low agglomeration, and low–high dispersion, and there is an obvious “matthew effect” and “siphon effect”. (2) Both intra- and inter-regional knowledge spillovers contribute significantly to the resilience of IC innovation ecosystems. The contractual governance mechanism can effectively enhance the impact of knowledge spillovers on the resilience of innovation ecosystems in the region, and the relational governance mechanism has a positive impact on the resilience of innovation ecosystems in neighboring regions. (3) Heterogeneity results show that knowledge spillovers within the Pan-PRD region have a significant positive impact on innovation ecosystem resilience. Knowledge spillovers between regions with low innovation capacity have a double effect on innovation ecosystem resilience, and knowledge spillovers between regions with “talent highlands” have a facilitating effect on innovation ecosystem resilience. Accordingly, policy recommendations are put forward to open up channels for innovation knowledge spillover, realize effective allocation of innovation resources, and optimize the system of innovation talents.

Prosocial behavior is fundamental for healthcare students, shaped by their traits and the external environment. Online information seeking is the most commonly used way for healthcare students to access pandemics; however, it is unclear whether the willingness of healthcare students to help others will be affected by pandemic information via the Internet environment. The current study takes the COVID-19 pandemic as an example, investigating how 81 healthcare students with varying prosocial tendencies behaved helpfully after being exposed to pandemic-related pictures online. Study 1 measured the influence of emotional contagion (positive emotion/negative emotion) from online information on students’ prosocial behavior; Study 2 examined online information’s influence on prosocial behavior by controlling individuals’ epistemic motivation (goal-directed task/no-goal-directed task) to gain pandemic information. The results indicated that negative pandemic information was more likely to influence students with low prosocial tendencies, which would then lead to a decrease in prosocial actions (F = 7.842, p = 0.005). Further, students with low prosocial tendencies were more likely to engage in prosocial behavior when they did not aim goal-directed attention to the pandemic-related information, compared to those with goal-directed attention (F = 9.159, p = 0.003). Participants with high prosocial tendencies did not differ much in helping others (p > 0.05). The results indicated that only healthcare students with limited prosocial tendencies were less inclined to assist others after receiving negative information about the pandemic. Thus, reducing their deliberate approach to online information related to the pandemic will increase their chances of taking prosocial behavior.

Beam-driven plasma wakefield acceleration (PWFA) is a promising technique to generate high-energy electron bunches for future electron-positron colliders. Longitudinal shaping of high-charge drive beam is highly desired for achieving high-transformer ratio and loading high-charge witness beam. However, the existing shaping schemes either focused on relatively low-charge bunch shaping or accompanied with significant charge-loss rate (typically over 50%). In this paper, a coherent-synchrotron-radiation-free shaping scheme based on velocity modulation is proposed to generate a high-charge beam with a linearly ramped profile. A >10 kA-peak-current shaped beam containing >50 nC charge with a low charge-loss rate is demonstrated by a start-to-end simulation, and the tunabilities of the beam charge and the peak current, and the robustness of the proposed shaping scheme are also discussed. When loaded by a 3 nC witness beam, a >GV/m accelerating electric field with a transformer ratio larger than 4 can be achieved in a uniform plasma for the shaped drive beam, providing the possibility of high-transformer-ratio PWFA for a high-charge beam.

Photovoltaic double-skin glass is a low-carbon energy-saving curtain wall system that uses ventilation heat exchange and airflow regulation to reduce heat gain and generate a portion of electricity. By developing a theoretical model of the ventilated photovoltaic curtain wall system and conducting numerical simulations, this study analyzes the variation patterns of the power generation efficiency of photovoltaic glass for different inclination angles, seasons, thermal ventilation spacing, and glass transmittance in the photovoltaic double-skin curtain wall system. The results indicate a positive correlation between the surface temperature of photovoltaic glass and both ground temperature and solar radiation intensity. Additionally, photovoltaic power generation efficiency is generally higher in spring and autumn than in summer and winter, with enhanced power generation performance observed. At an inclination angle of 40°, photovoltaic panels receive optimal solar radiation and, consequently, produce the maximum electricity. Furthermore, as the ventilation spacing increases, the efficiency of power generation initially rises, reaching a peak at approximately 0.4 m, where it is 0.4% greater than at a spacing of 0.012 m. For a photovoltaic glass transmittance of 40%, the highest photovoltaic power generation efficiency is 63%, while the average efficiency is 35.3%. This has significant implications for the application and promotion of photovoltaic double-skin glass curtain walls.

Hybrid wheel–track systems have found extensive applications due to the advantages a combination of wheels and tracks. However, the coupling influence between the wheeled and tracked mechanisms poses a challenge to stable and efficient controller design and implementation. This paper focuses on the lateral dynamic control of a vehicle in scenarios where both tracks and wheels are in contact with the ground. A dynamic model of a vehicle is first established based on the tire brush model and linearized general track model. Based on the dynamic model, a novel adaptive model predictive control (AMPC) method is designed considering the coupling and nonlinearity of the wheels and tracks to simultaneously regulate both mechanisms. Compared with traditional model predictive control approaches, the AMPC controller takes the side-slip angle and slip ratio as constraints to prevent the vehicle from reaching unstable states. Simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the controller, and the results indicate that the controller has the capacity to optimize the objective’s yaw-rate response while maintaining lateral vehicle stability and preventing slip by imposing constraints.

To address the question of which posture trailing-arm vehicles (TAVs) should be adopted while driving, this study introduces an innovative active posture controller (APC) to improve both path-following and handling stability performance. Leveraging a nonlinear tire model that considers corner load variation and wheel camber, alongside the kinematics and double-track model of TAVs, the impact of vehicle body posture on handling performance has been investigated. To fully utilize the four-wheel independent drive and posture adjustable characteristics of the TAV mechanisms, an integrated nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) combining APC and tire forces distribution is devised. Through simulations conducted using Simulink-Multibody (2023a), the effectiveness of the proposed controller is demonstrated, particularly when compared to the scheme that does not account for the unique posture adjustment mechanisms of TAVs.

Machine learning algorithms have proven to be practical in a wide range of applications. Many studies have been conducted on the operational energy consumption and thermal comfort of radiant floor systems. This paper conducts a case study in a self-designed experimental setup that combines radiant floor and fan coil cooling (RFCFC) and develops a data monitoring system as a source of historical operational data. Seven machine learning algorithms (extreme learning machine (ELM), convolutional neural network (CNN), genetic algorithm-back propagation (GA-BP), radial basis function (RBF), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and long short-term memory (LSTM)) were employed to predict the behavior of the RFCFC system. Corresponding prediction models were then developed to evaluate operative temperature (Top) and energy consumption (Eh). The performance of the model was evaluated using five error metrics. The obtained results showed that the RF model had very high performance in predicting Top and Eh, with high correlation coefficients (>0.9915) and low error metrics. Compared with other models, it also demonstrated high accuracy in Eh prediction, yielding maximum reductions of 68.1, 82.4, and 43.2% in the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), mean squared error (MSE), and mean absolute error (MAE), respectively. A sensitivity ranking algorithm analysis was also conducted. The obtained results demonstrated the importance of adjusting parameters, such as the radiant floor supply water temperature, to enhance the indoor comfort. This study provides a novel and effective method for evaluating the energy efficiency and thermal comfort of radiant cooling systems. It also provides insights for optimizing the efficiency and thermal comfort of RFCFC systems, and lays a theoretical foundation for future studies integrating machine learning algorithms in this field.

Abstract This paper studies the tracking control problem for a climate chamber control system used for determining volatile organic compounds. A new nonlinear controller, for the first time, is designed for the temperature and humidity control of a 30m3$30 ext{ m}^3$ climate chamber. For one thing, based on the backstepping technology, an improved control method is proposed with the help of the implicit function theorem instead of employing system linearization. In this way, simplification of the controlled system can be avoidable so that the control accuracy is promoted. For another, without approximations by fuzzy logics or neural networks, the number of complex computations are reduced a lot so that the control rate is improved considerably. In the end, simulation is conducted by Matlab to validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control method.

The emergence of multi-petawatt laser facilities is expected to push forward the maximum energy gain that can be achieved in a single stage of a laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) to tens of giga-electron volts, which begs the question—is it likely to impact particle physics by providing a truly compact particle collider? Colliders have very stringent requirements on beam energy, acceleration efficiency, and beam quality. In this article, we propose an LWFA scheme that can for the first time simultaneously achieve hitherto unrealized acceleration efficiency from the laser to the electron beam of >20% and a sub-1% energy spread using a stepwise plasma structure and a nonlinearly chirped laser pulse. Three-dimensional high-fidelity simulations show that the nonlinear chirp can effectively mitigate the laser waveform distortion and lengthen the acceleration distance. This, combined with an interstage rephasing process in the stepwise plasma, can triple the beam energy gain compared to that in a uniform plasma for a fixed laser energy, thereby dramatically increasing the efficiency. A dynamic beam loading effect can almost perfectly cancel the energy chirp that arises during the acceleration, leading to the sub-percent energy spread. This scheme is highly scalable and can be applied to petawatt LWFA scenarios. Scaling laws are obtained, which suggest that electron beams with parameters relevant for a Higgs factory could be reached with the proposed high-efficiency, low-energy-spread scheme.

A Hot Disk thermal constant analyzer was used to obtain the thermal parameters of composite boards, solid wood floor, and ceramic tiles (CT). FLUENT software was used for the model establishment and the temperature field simulation, and the effects caused by different surface materials were analyzed. A 2D unsteady model was constructed to analyze floor surface temperature and indoor temperature fields in an enclosure space. Comparison of temperature fields caused by different materials showed that both steady indoor temperature and surface temperature of CTwerethe highest, which is due to its good thermal properties. Thermal conductivity and thermal capacity are the two main factors affecting floor thermal performance in the initial hours, while thermal conductivity is the key factor in the steady period. For the compared floor materials, CT and Sindora glabra (SG) are the optimal choices from the perspective of thermal performance, while composite boards are almost the same in thermal performance.

BackgroundEmerging evidence has indicated that remnant cholesterol (RC) could predict cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence. Nevertheless, the relationship between RC and CVD risk, especially within the general Chinese population, remains scarce.ObjectiveThe present research aimed to assess whether RC concentrations and CVD outcomes in general Chinese adults are related.MethodsThe Cox proportional hazard model was established to explore the relationship between RC and the outcomes of CVD and CVD subgroups. A restricted cubic spline (RCS) was utilized to investigate the dose–response connection between RC and the risk of CVD outcomes, and the ROC curve was used to calculate the corresponding cutoff values. Moreover, stratified analysis was conducted to investigate the potential effect modification in the association between RC and CVD outcomes.ResultsSignificant positive associations were found between elevated categorical RC and increased risk of CVD (HR Q4, 1.80; 95% CI 1.15–2.79; P-value = 0.008), atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (HR Q4, 2.00; 95% CI 1.22–3.27; P-value = 0.007), stroke (HR Q4, 1.66; 95% CI 1.02–2.69; P-value = 0.040), and ischemic stroke (HR Q4, 1.87, 95% CI 1.08–3.25; P-value = 0.034), respectively. Our study suggested that the incidence of CVD outcomes increased when RC levels were above 0.75 mmol/L. Importantly, the CVD risks related to RC were more likely to be those found in subjects aged above 60 years, women, subjects with BMI

Background and aims Esmolol is a common short-acting drug to control ventricular rate. This study aimed to evaluate the association between use of esmolol and mortality in critically ill patients. Methods This is a retrospective cohort study from MIMIC-IV database containing adult patients with a heart rate of over 100 beats/min during the intensive care unit (ICU) stay. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard models and logistic regression were used to explore the association between esmolol and mortality and adjust confounders. A 1:1 nearest neighbor propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to minimize potential cofounding bias. The comparison for secondary outcomes was performed at different points of time using an independent t -test. Results A total of 30,332 patients were reviewed and identified as critically ill. There was no significant difference in 28-day mortality between two groups before (HR = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.73-1.12, p = 0.343) and after PSM (HR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.65-1.08, p = 0.167). Similar results were shown in 90-day mortality before (HR = 0.93, 95% CI = 0.75-1.14, p = 0.484) and after PSM (HR = 0.85, 95% CI = 0.67-1.09, p = 0.193). However, esmolol treatment was associated with higher requirement of vasopressor use before (HR = 2.89, 95% CI = 2.18-3.82, p 0.05). Conclusion Esmolol treatment was associated with reduced heart rate and lowered DBP and MAP, which may increase vasopressor use and fluid balance at the timepoint of 24 hours in critically ill patients during ICU stay. However, after adjusting for confounders, esmolol treatment was not associated with 28-day and 90-day mortality.

To overcome the limitations of long-term prediction of PM2.5 concentration, a multi-factor information flow causality analysis method is used to screen suitable meteorological and air pollutant-related factors and concatenate them with a PM2.5 sequence as the dataset. A modal decomposition algorithm is used as a module to be integrated into the autoformer (transformer improved with autocorrelation mechanism) model to improve it, and the modal autoformer (empirical modal decomposition combined with autoformer) is proposed. The constructed model decomposes the sequence into several components by using the modal decomposition module and uses the self-correlation mechanism and decomposition structure to decompose and extract features of different components at the time-feature level. Based on the matching method, the model is adjusted for different component features to improve the long-term prediction effect. The model is applied to three cities in Henan Province, Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Zhumadian, as examples for experiments, and gated neural unit (GRU), informer, autoformer, and modal GRU (empirical modal decomposition combined with GRU model) are constructed for comparative verification. The results show that the modal autoformer can better cope with the complex characteristics of long-term prediction of the PM2.5 time series, has strong spatial adaptability and that its various indicators are optimal for the three cities, with R2 values being all above 0.96, where the highest is 0.987 in Zhengzhou; MAPE (Mean absolute percentage error) values all being less than 10, where the best is 7.602 in Zhumadian; and MAE (Mean absolute error) values all being less than 4. The prediction effect is stable enough, showing its feasibility and adaptability in long-term prediction.

Abstract Background Inflammatory parameters and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) DNA status have been confirmed to be associated with prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients. However, there are few in-depth studies on the prognosis of NPC patients with negative EBV DNA. Our study aimed to look for inflammatory biomarkers that can identify disease progression in NPC patients with negative EBV DNA. Methods A total of 795 NPC patients were recruited, and ultimately 325 NPC patients with negative EBV DNA were included in this study (170 in training cohort and 155 in validation cohort). Kaplan–Meier method and log-rank test were used to analyze progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). The multivariate analysis of Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to determine the independent prognostic factors. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess prognostic value. The logistic regression was used to evaluate the relationship between EBV DNA status and inflammatory parameters. The correlation between clinical characteristics was analyzed by the chi-squared test or the Fisher’s exact test. Results The optimal cutoff point for the SIRI was 1.12. The main topic of population genetics and evolutionary biology is the influence of the ecological environment, geographical isolation, and climatic factors on population structure and history. Here, we estimated the genetic diversity, genetic structure, and population history of two subspecies of Tolai hares (Lepus tolai Pallas, 1778), L. t. lehmanni inhabiting Northern and Northwest Xinjiang and L. t. centrasiaticus inhabiting Central and Eastern Xinjiang using SNP of specific-length amplified fragment sequencing (SLAF-seq) and four mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Our results showed a relatively high degree of genetic diversity for Tolai hares, and the diversity of L. t. lehmanni was slightly higher than that of L. t. centrasiaticus, likely due to the more favorable ecological environment, such as woodlands and plains. Phylogenetic analysis from SNP and mtDNA indicated a rough phylogeographical distribution pattern among Tolai hares. Strong differentiation was found between the two subspecies and the two geographical groups in L. t. centrasiaticus, possibly due to the geographical isolation of mountains, basins, and deserts. However, gene flow was also detected between the two subspecies, which might be attributed to the Tianshan Corridor and the strong migration ability of hares. Tolai hare population differentiation occurred at approximately 1.2377 MYA. Population history analysis based on SNP and mtDNA showed that the Tolai hare population has a complex history and L. t. lehmanni was less affected by the glacial event, possibly because its geographic location and terrain conditions weaken the drastic climate fluctuations. In conclusion, our results indicated that the joint effect of ecological environment, geographic events, and climatic factors might play important roles in the evolutionary process of L. t. lehmanni and L. t. centrasiaticus, thus resulting in differentiation, gene exchange, and different population history.

Recent advances in programmable quantum devices brought to the fore the intriguing possibility of using them to realise and investigate topological quantum spin liquid phases. This new and exciting direction brings about important research questions on how to probe and determine the presence of such exotic, highly entangled phases in a noisy quantum environment. One of the most promising tools is investigating the behaviour of the topological excitations, and in particular their fractional statistics. In this work we put forward a generic route to achieve this, and we illustrate it in the specific case of $\mathbb{Z}_2$ topological spin liquids implemented with the aid of combinatorial gauge symmetry. We design a convenient architecture to study signatures of fractional statistics via quasiparticle interferometry, and we assess its robustness to diagonal and off-diagonal disorder, as well as to dephasing - effects that are generally pervasive in current quantum programmable devices. Interestingly, when turned on its head, our scheme provides a remarkably clear test of the "quantumness" of these devices, with robust signatures that crucially hinge on quantum coherence and quantum interference effects, and cannot be mimicked by classical stochastic processes.

Abstract Background To develop a reliable model to predict rapid kidney function decline (RKFD) among population at risk of cardiovascular disease. Methods In this retrospective study, key monitoring residents including the elderly, and patients with hypertension or diabetes of China National Basic Public Health Service who underwent community annual physical examinations from January 2015 to December 2020 were included. Healthy records were extracted from regional chronic disease management platform. RKFD was defined as the reduction of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥ 40% during follow-up period. The entire cohort were randomly assigned to a development cohort and a validation cohort in a 2:1 ratio. Cox regression analysis was used to identify the independent predictors. A nomogram was established based on the development cohort. The concordance index (C-index) and calibration plots were calculated. Decision curve analysis was applied to evaluate the clinical utility. Results A total of 8455 subjects were included. During the median follow-up period of 3.72 years, the incidence of RKFD was 11.96% (n = 1011), 11.98% (n = 676) and 11.92% (n = 335) in the entire cohort, development cohort and validation cohort, respectively. Age, eGFR, hemoglobin, systolic blood pressure, and diabetes were identified as predictors for RKFD. Good discriminating performance was observed in both the development (C-index, 0.73) and the validation (C-index, 0.71) cohorts, and the AUCs for predicting 5-years RKFD was 0.763 and 0.740 in the development and the validation cohort, respectively. Decision curve analysis further confirmed the clinical utility of the nomogram. Conclusions Our nomogram based on five readily accessible variables (age, eGFR, hemoglobin, systolic blood pressure, and diabetes) is a useful tool to identify high risk patients for RKFD among population at risk of cardiovascular disease in primary care. Whereas, further external validations are needed before clinical generalization.

BackgroundPrevious studies have shown that dexmedetomidine (DEX) may be associated with reduced vasopressor requirements in septic shock patients, however, long-term DEX-only sedation in reducing vasopressor requirements is still controversial.MethodsA retrospective study was conducted among patients with septic shock on mechanical ventilation using the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database. The primary outcome was the ratio of norepinephrine equivalent dose to mean arterial pressure (NEq/MAP) in the first 72 h after DEX or other sedatives for sedation. The secondary outcomes were key organ function parameters, 28-day mortality, and 90-day mortality. Univariate, propensity score matching (PSM), and generalized linear mixed model (GLMM) analyses were performed.ResultsDEX was associated with decreased NEq/MAP in the first 72 h (difference = 0.05, 95% CI = –0.02–0.08, p = 0.002) after adjusting for confounders in the GLMM analysis. In this work, novel (1 [Formula: see text])(0.75Na[Formula: see text]Bi[Formula: see text]TiO3)-0.25Sr(Zr[Formula: see text]Sn[Formula: see text]Hf[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text]Nb[Formula: see text])O3-[Formula: see text]NaNbO3 (NBT-SZSHTN-[Formula: see text]NN, [Formula: see text] = 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25) ceramics were fabricated. The influence of co-doping of NN and high entropy perovskite oxide (SZSHTN) on the phase structure, microstructure and dielectric properties of NBT-based lead-free ceramics was investigated. Dense microstructure with a grain size of [Formula: see text]5 [Formula: see text]m is observed. When [Formula: see text] = 0.25, a wide dielectric temperature stable range of −35.4–224.3[Formula: see text]C with a low temperature coefficient of capacitance of [Formula: see text] 10% is achieved, fulfilling the industry standard of Y9P specification. Furthermore, excellent energy storage performance with recoverable energy density of 2.4 J/cm3, discharge efficiency of 71%, power density of 25.495 MW/cm3 and discharge rate [Formula: see text] 200 ns are simultaneously obtained, which shows great potential for high temperature capacitor applications.

Abstract The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity of single‐atom catalysts (SACs) is closely related to the coordination environment of the active site. Oxygen‐coordinated atomic metal species bring about unique features beyond nitrogen‐coordinated atomic metal species due to the fact that the M–O bond is weaker than the M–N bond. Herein, a series of metal–oxygen–carbon structured low‐nucleus clusters (LNCs) are successfully anchored on the surface of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (M‐MWCNTs, M = Ni, Co, or Fe) through a foolproof low‐temperature gas transfer (300°C) method without any further treatment. The morphology and coordination configuration of the LNCs at the atomic level were confirmed by comprehensive characterizations. The synthetic Ni‐MWCNTs electrocatalyst features excellent OER activity and stability under alkaline conditions, transcending the performances of Co‐MWCNTs, Fe‐MWCNTs and RuO2. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the moderate oxidation of low‐nucleus Ni clusters changes the unoccupied orbital of Ni atoms, thereby lowering the energy barrier of the OER rate‐limiting step and making the OER process more energy‐efficient. This study demonstrates a novel versatile platform for large‐scale manufacturing of oxygen‐coordinated LNC catalysts.

Abstract Background As a hot method in machine learning field, the forests approach is an attractive alternative approach to Cox model. Random survival forests (RSF) methodology is the most popular survival forests method, whereas its drawbacks exist such as a selection bias towards covariates with many possible split points. Conditional inference forests (CIF) methodology is known to reduce the selection bias via a two-step split procedure implementing hypothesis tests as it separates the variable selection and splitting, but its computation costs too much time. Random forests with maximally selected rank statistics (MSR-RF) methodology proposed recently seems to be a great improvement on RSF and CIF. Methods In this paper we used simulation study and real data application to compare prediction performances and variable selection performances among three survival forests methods, including RSF, CIF and MSR-RF. To evaluate the performance of variable selection, we combined all simulations to calculate the frequency of ranking top of the variable importance measures of the correct variables, where higher frequency means better selection ability. We used Integrated Brier Score (IBS) and c-index to measure the prediction accuracy of all three methods. The smaller IBS value, the greater the prediction. Results Simulations show that three forests methods differ slightly in prediction performance. MSR-RF and RSF might perform better than CIF when there are only continuous or binary variables in the datasets. For variable selection performance, When there are multiple categorical variables in the datasets, the selection frequency of RSF seems to be lowest in most cases. MSR-RF and CIF have higher selection rates, and CIF perform well especially with the interaction term. The fact that correlation degree of the variables has little effect on the selection frequency indicates that three forest methods can handle data with correlation. When there are only continuous variables in the datasets, MSR-RF perform better. When there are only binary variables in the datasets, RSF and MSR-RF have more advantages than CIF. When the variable dimension increases, MSR-RF and RSF seem to be more robustthan CIF Conclusions All three methods show advantages in prediction performances and variable selection performances under different situations. The recent proposed methodology MSR-RF possess practical value and is well worth popularizing. It is important to identify the appropriate method in real use according to the research aim and the nature of covariates.

The trend of the feminization of the aging population in China is accelerating, and the differences in the subjective well-being of older adults are becoming more and more obvious. This study combines gender theory with gender differences as an entry point, based on 436 survey data, and examines effects and differences between learning engagement on the subjective well-being of older Chinese learners by gender. The study found the following: learning can enhance the subjective well-being of older people; there were significant differences in the subjective well-being of older adult learners by gender in two dimensions, namely, physical and mental health experience and adaptation satisfaction experience; and the positive effect of learning engagement on subjective well-being of female older adults was more pronounced and thus had a stronger effect on their subjective well-being. In addition, the gender equality of older adults’ learning participation and gender differences in learning needs are further explored based on the gender theory perspective, and this gives suggestions for enhancing older adult learners’ subjective well-being.

PurposePatients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) require self-management, yet current self-management compliance is low. Taking patients’ preferences into account can improve the self-management situation. The purpose of this study is to look into MCI patients’ preferences for self-management in China.MethodsA qualitative research was conducted using semi-structured in-depth interviews with 21 patients recently diagnosed with MCI who were chosen by purposive sampling. These interviews were analyzed through thematic analysis and identified emerging themes.ResultsFive themes of self-management preference were identified: (1) Preference for acquiring disease knowledge; (2) Preference for participating in drug therapy; (3) Preference for participating in exercise; (4) Preference for applying memory compensation strategy; (5) Preferences for emotional expression and response.ConclusionOur study identified the specific preferences of MCI patients in China for the main self-management items. The findings are valuable insights for knowing MCI patients’ self-management content and preferences and provide better guidance for health practitioners to improve self-management compliance.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have become one of the most competitive energy storage technologies. However, the “thermal runaway” of LIBs leads to serious safety issues. Early safety warning of LIBs is a prerequisite for the widely applications of power battery and large-scale energy storage systems. As reported, hydrogen (H2) could be generated due to the reaction of lithium metal and polymers inside the battery. The generation of H2 is some time earlier than the “thermal runaway”. Therefore, the rapid detection of trace hydrogen is the most effective method for early safety warning of LIBs. Resistive hydrogen sensors have attracted attention in recent years. In addition, they could be placed inside the LIB package for the initial hydrogen detection. Here, we overview the recent key advances of resistive room temperature (RT) H2 sensors, and explore possible applications inside LIB. We explored the underlying sensing mechanisms for each type of H2 sensor. Additionally, we highlight the approaches to develop the H2 sensors in large scale. Finally, the present review presents a brief conclusion and perspectives about the resistive RT H2 sensors for early safety warning of LIBs.

Abstract This paper concerns the problem of formation‐containment control for general‐linear multi‐agent systems (MASs) with both communication delays and switching interaction topologies. On the one hand, the leaders can communicate with each other to form the desired formation and on the other, the followers need to enter the convex envelope spanned by the multiple leaders. Firstly, by using the neighbouring relative information, formation‐containment protocols are designed for each leader and follower, where an edge‐based state observer is incorporated into the formation‐containment controller to evaluate the whole leaders' state. Secondly, according to the linear matrix inequality technology, an algorithm is given to determine the unknown feedback matrixes in the protocol. Then, based on Lyapunov theory, the formation‐containment error is proved to be convergent and formation feasibility conditions are also presented for the MASs to achieve formation‐containment. Finally, a simulation on several MASs is provided to demonstrate the theoretical results.

Copper has been used as an antimicrobial agent long time ago. Nowadays, copper-containing nanoparticles (NPs) with antimicrobial properties have been widely used in all aspects of our daily life. Copper-containing NPs may also be incorporated or coated on the surface of dental materials to inhibit oral pathogenic microorganisms. This review aims to detail copper-containing NPs’ antimicrobial mechanism, cytotoxic effect and their application in dentistry.

Hypoxia is a major regulator of tumor aggressiveness and metastasis in cancer progression. Exosomes (exos) play an important role in the communication between lung cancer and hypoxic microenvironment. However, the underlying mechanisms are largely undefined. Exos were isolated from A549 cells under hypoxia conditions. Transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis were carried out to characterize exos. CCK-8 assay, flow cytometry, Western blot, wound healing, and transwell assays were performed to assess the proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion of A549 cells, respectively. The M2 polarization of macrophages was evaluated by RT-qPCR and Western blot analysis. In vivo nude mice model was established to determine the regulatory effect of hypoxia/exos on the progression of lung cancer. Hypoxic A549 cell-derived exos (hypoxia/exos) promoted the proliferation and migration, and inhibited the apoptosis in A549 cells. The expression of PKM2 was significantly upregulated in hypoxia/exos. Hypoxic exosomal PKM2 induced M2 polarization of macrophages by activating AMPK pathway. Co-culture with hypoxia/exos-treated macrophages enhanced the migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in A549 cells. Moreover, treatment with hypoxia/exos facilitated the tumor growth and lung metastasis of A549 cells. Our findings reveal that hypoxic exosomal PKM2 induces M2 macrophage polarization via AMPK pathway, and thus exerts a simulative effect on the growth and metastasis of lung carcinoma.

Abstract Introduction Behavior management of children during dental treatment is an important but challenging issue. As a new technique, VR has been applied in pediatric dental anxiety. But there is no final conclusion whether VR reduces children's dental anxiety. Methods The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of a digital intervention using virtual reality (VR) helmets on dental anxiety, pain perception, and behavior triggered for children, as well as occurrence of simulator sickness in local anesthesia and primary teeth extraction. A total of 128 children, who needed primary teeth extraction under local anesthesia, were randomly allocated into two groups: use VR helmets and traditional behavior guidance procedures (control). Modified Child Fear Survey Schedule Dental Subscale (CFSS‐DS), Wong‐Baker FACES Pain Scale, Houpt Scale, and Simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ) were used to assess children's dental anxiety, pain perception, and behavior triggered and occurrence of simulator sickness. Results CFSS‐DS score in the VR group was significantly decreased after dental treatment (34.58±6.90 before operation and 32.32±15.58 after operation, p = .02). The score of Wong Baker Scale in the VR group (3.47±0.76) was significantly lower than that in the control group (5.56±1.13, p = .015). There was no significant difference in the Houpt Behavior Scale score and the SSQ score between the VR group and the control group (p = .35, p = .305). Conclusion The use of VR helmets in primary teeth extraction can significantly reduce dental anxiety and pain perception in children without occurrence of simulator sickness.

Abstract Background Fluid therapy is a cornerstone in the treatment of sepsis. Recently, the guidelines have recommended the combined administration that using crystalloids plus albumin for septic patients, but the optimal timing for albumin combined is still unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the association of timing of albumin combined with 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis. Methods We involved septic patients from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database, and these patients were categorized into crystalloids group (crystalloids alone) and early combination group (crystalloids combined albumin at 0–24 h). The primary outcome was 28-day mortality. We used propensity score matching (PSM) to adjust confounding and restricted mean survival time (RMST) analysis was conducted to quantify the beneficial effect on survival due to the combination group. Results We categorized 6597 and 920 patients in the “crystalloids alone” and “early combination”, respectively. After PSM, compared to the crystalloids group, the combination group was associated with the increased survival among 28-day (increased survival: 3.39 days, 95% CI 2.53–4.25; P

Lepus yarkandensis is a national second-class protected animal endemic to China and distributed only in the hot and arid Tarim Basin in Xinjiang. We sequenced and described the complete mitogenome of L. yarkandensis to analyze its characteristics and phylogeny. The species’ DNA is a 17,047 bp circular molecule that includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and one control region. The overall base composition was as follows: A, 31.50%; T, 29.40%; G, 13.30% and C, 25.80%, with a high A+T bias of 60.9%. In the PCGs, ND6 had deviation ranges for AT skew (–0.303) and GC skew (0.636). The Ka/Ks values of ND1 (1.067) and ND6 (1.352) genes were >1, indicating positive selection, which might play an important role in the adaptation of L. yarkandensis to arid and hot environments. The conserved sequence block, the central conserved domain, and the extended termination-associated sequences of the control region and their features were identified and described. The phylogenetic tree based on the complete mitogenome showed that L. yarkandensis was closely related to the sympatric Lepus tibetanus pamirensis. These novel datasets of L. yarkandensis can supply basic data for phylogenetic studies of Lepus spp., apart from providing essential and important resource for further genetic research and the protection of this species.

An integrated hog futures price forecasting model based on whale optimization algorithm (WOA), LightGBM, and Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN) is proposed to overcome the limitations of a single machine learning model with low prediction accuracy and insufficient model stability. The simulation process begins with a grey correlation analysis of the hog futures price index system in order to identify influencing factors; after that, the WOA-LightGBM model is developed, and the WOA algorithm is used to optimize the LightGBM model parameters; and, finally, the residual sequence is decomposed and corrected by using the CEEMDAN method to build a combined WOA-LightGBM-CEEMDAN model. Furthermore, it is used for comparison experiments to check the validity of the model by using data from CSI 300 stock index futures. Based on all experimental results, the proposed combined model shows the highest prediction accuracy, surpassing the comparative model. The model proposed in this study is accurate enough to meet the forecasting accuracy requirements and provides an effective method for forecasting future prices.

Aims To develop a nomogram for incident chronic kidney disease (CKD) risk evaluation among community residents with high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.Methods In this retrospective cohort study, 5730 non-CKD residents with high CVD risk participating the National Basic Public Health Service between January 2015 and December 2020 in Guangzhou were included. Endpoint was incident CKD defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 during the follow-up period. The entire cohorts were randomly (2:1) assigned to a development cohort and a validation cohort. Predictors of incident CKD were selected by multivariable Cox regression and stepwise approach. A nomogram based on these predictors was developed and evaluated with concordance index (C-index) and area under curve (AUC).Results During the median follow-up period of 4.22 years, the incidence of CKD was 19.09% (n=1094) in the entire cohort, 19.03% (727 patients) in the development cohort and 19.21% (367 patients) in the validation cohort. Age, body mass index, eGFR 60–89 mL/min/1.73 m2, diabetes and hypertension were selected as predictors. The nomogram demonstrated a good discriminative power with C-index of 0.778 and 0.785 in the development and validation cohort. The 3-year, 4-year and 5-year AUCs were 0.817, 0.814 and 0.834 in the development cohort, and 0.830, 0.847 and 0.839 in the validation cohort.Conclusion Our nomogram based on five readily available predictors is a reliable tool to identify high-CVD risk patients at risk of incident CKD. This prediction model may help improving the healthcare strategies in primary care.

This paper focuses on the time-varying output formation (TVOF) tracking control of heterogeneous linear multi-agent systems (HL-MASs) with both delays and switching topologies, where the followers’ outputs can move along the reference trajectory generated by the leaders and maintain the desired time-varying formation. First, a distributed observer is proposed for each follower, aiming to estimate the convex combination of leaders’ state with both communication delays and switching graphs. The observer’s error for heterogeneous MASs is analyzed based on Lyapunov theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Second, the observer is incorporated into the output formation tracking protocol. Then, an algorithm is put forward to calculate the control feedback gains and the formation tracking feasibility constraint is also provided. Furthermore, the convergence of the formation tracking error is proved. At last, the effectiveness of this proposed method is validated through a numerical simulation.

Summary: Interfacial solar steam generation is emerging as a promising technique for efficient desalination. Although increasing efforts have been made, challenges exist for achieving a balance among a plethora of performance indicators—for example, rapid evaporation, durability, low-cost deployment, and salt rejection. Here, we demonstrate that carbonized manure can convert 98% of sunlight into heat, and the strong capillarity of porous carbon fibers networks pumps sufficient water to evaporation interfaces. Salt diffusion within microchannels enables quick salt drainage to the bulk seawater to prevent salt accumulation. With these advantages, this biomass-derived evaporator is demonstrated to feature a high evaporation rate of 2.81 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun with broad robustness to acidity and alkalinity. These advantages, together with facial deployment, offer an approach for converting farm waste to energy with high efficiency and easy implementation, which is particularly well suited for developing regions.

Humidity effects on resistive gas sensors operating at room temperature remain a serious bottleneck. In this work, we introduce a resistive gas sensor based on a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8/carbon nanotube (ZIF-8/CNT) composite for the detection of ammonia gas at room temperature. The composite was prepared using a facile solution method. In this sensor, the basic mechanism was the charge transfer between ammonia molecules and CNTs; meanwhile, the ZIF-8 facilitated the adsorption of ammonia molecules as a preconcentrator, and prevented the adsorption of H2O molecules due to its hydrophobicity; CNTs were threaded through the ZIF-8 to form a great conductive network for charge transfer. The obtained sensor showed good ammonia sensing, especially at room temperature, with great selectivity and immunity to humidity under moderately humid conditions (45–70 % RH). However, the ammonia response was reduced at very high humidity (90% RH) due to the competitive adsorption of H2O molecules. This proved that the NH3 sensor based on ZIF-8/CNT could be suitable for practical applications under moderately humid conditions.

We propose a novel positron beam loading regime in a hollow plasma channel that can efficiently accelerate e^{+} beam with a high gradient and narrow energy spread. In this regime, the e^{+} beam coincides with the drive e^{-} beam in time and space and their net current distribution determines the plasma wakefields. By precisely shaping the beam current profile and loading phase according to explicit expressions, three-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations show that the acceleration for e^{+} beam of ∼nC charge with ∼ GV/m gradient, ≲0.5% induced energy spread, and ∼50% energy transfer efficiency can be achieved simultaneously. Besides, only tailoring the current profile of the more tunable e^{-} beam instead of the e^{+} beam is enough to obtain such favorable results. A theoretical analysis considering both linear and nonlinear plasma responses in hollow plasma channels is proposed to quantify the beam loading effects. This theory agrees very well with the simulation results and verifies the robustness of this beam loading regime over a wide range of parameters.

Maidong, the root tuber of Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker Gawl., is a commonly used herbal medicine in China. There are three quality grades of Maidong according to traditional opinion and modern research studies: superior quality (Zhe-Maidong), medium quality (Chuan-Maidong), and poorest quality (Chuan-Maidong with paclobutrazol, which is a kind of plant growth regulator). However, no efficient way to distinguish the three quality grades of Maidong exists; thus, the herbal markets and botanical pharmacies are flooded with Chuan-Maidong with paclobutrazol. To ensure the safety and quality of Maidong, a comparative microscopic study was performed on three quality grades of Maidong. The result was to establish a microscopic quantification method based on the area ratio between xylem and pith to distinguish the three quality grades of Maidong. Subsequently, Maidong from regional markets was evaluated by this method. In this study, we developed a novel quantification method to identify the three quality grades of Maidong, which could in turn make efforts on the quality improvement of Maidong. Our study is the first to demonstrate that microscopic technology could be used to distinguish different quality grades of a specific herbal medicine.

OBJECTIVES: Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the parkinsonian variant of multiple system atrophy (MSA-P) are distinct neurodegenerative disorders that share similar clinical features of parkinsonism. The morphological alterations of these diseases have yet to be understood. The purpose of this study was to evaluate gray matter atrophy in PD and MSA-P using regions of interest (ROI)-based measurements and voxel-based morphometry (VBM). METHODS: We studied 41 patients with PD, 20 patients with MSA-P, and 39 controls matched for age, sex, and handedness using an improved T1-weighted sequence that eased gray matter segmentation. The gray matter volumes were measured using ROI and VBM. The shuttle effect hinders the practical application of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries due to the poor affinity between a substrate and Li polysulfides (LiPSs) and the sluggish transition of soluble LiPSs to insoluble Li2S or elemental S. Here, we report that Ni hexatomic clusters embedded in a nitrogen-doped three-dimensional (3D) graphene framework (Ni-N/G) possess stronger interaction with soluble polysulfides than that with insoluble polysulfides. The synthetic electrocatalyst deployed in the sulfur cathode plays a multifunctional role: (i) selectively adsorbing the polysulfides dissolved in the electrolyte, (ii) expediting the sluggish liquid-solid phase transformations at the active sites as electrocatalysts, and (iii) accelerating the kinetics of the electrochemical reaction of multielectron sulfur, thereby inhibiting the dissolution of LiPSs. The constructed S@Ni-N/G cathode delivers an areal capacity of 9.43 mAh cm-2 at 0.1 C at S loading of 6.8 mg cm-2, and it exhibits a gravimetric capacity of 1104 mAh g-1 with a capacity fading rate of 0.045% per cycle over 50 cycles at 0.2 C at S loading of 2.0 mg cm-2. This work opens a rational approach to achieve the selective adsorption and expediting of polysulfide transition for the performance enhancement of Li-S batteries.

The current situation of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) prevention and control coupled with the need to work in high-temperature harsh environments makes it necessary to ensure the health and efficiency of medical staff. An experimental outdoor work tent was set up and university students were used to study the thermal comfort of personnel wearing protective clothing in hot and humid environments. The experiment was carried out simultaneously through subjective and objective field tests and physiological tests of personnel. The wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) index was investigated to divide the outdoor thermal environment into four working conditions: 21–23 °C, 23–25 °C, 25–27 °C and 27–29 °C. Under the different thermal environment intensities, the variations of physiological parameters of test personnel were monitored. The results showed that when WBGT was increased to 27–29 °C, 100% of the participants expected the external temperature to become cooler and the humidity to decrease after one hour. When the temperature was close to 30 °C and the relative humidity was close to 60%, it was necessary to take cooling measures to reduce the thermal stress of the participants. Moreover, relationships between subjective feelings and physiological parameters of the nucleic acid sampling personnel were obtained. Results also found that the forehead, chest and back were the highest skin temperature parts, so it is most effective to give priority to improving the thermal comfort of these three locations. As an early attempt to conduct the real outdoor experimental study on the thermal comfort of COVID-19 nucleic acid sampling staff, this study provided a theoretical basis for follow-up research to develop cooling strategies for protective clothing in hot and humid outdoor environments.

Abstract Background A hallmark of systemic lupus erythematosus is high titers of circulating autoantibodies. Recently, a novel CD11c+ B-cell subset has been identified that is critical for the development of autoimmunity. However, the role of CD11c+ B cells in the development of lupus is unclear. Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) is a lupus-like syndrome with high autoantibody production. The purpose of this study was to explore the role of CD11c+ B cells in the pathogenesis of lupus in cGVHD mice. Methods cGVHD was induced by an intraperitoneal injection of 5 × 107 Bm12 splenocytes into B6 mice. Flow cytometry was used to analyze mice splenocytes and human samples. Magnetic beads were used to isolate mice B cells. Gene expression was determined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect antibodies in serum and supernatants. Results The percentage and absolute number of CD11c+ B cells was increased in cGVHD-induced lupus, with elevated levels of antichromatin immunoglobulin (Ig)G and IgG2a in sera. CD11c+ plasma cells from cGVHD mice produced large amounts of antichromatin IgG2a upon stimulation. Depletion of CD11c+ B cells reduced antichromatin IgG and IgG2a production. T-bet was upregulated in CD11c+ B cells. Knockout of T-bet in B cells alleviated cGVHD-induced lupus. Importantly, the percentage of T-bet+CD11c+ B cells increased in lupus patients and positively correlated with serum antichromatin levels. Conclusion T-bet+CD11c+ B cells promoted high antichromatin IgG production in the lupus-like disease model cGVHD. In lupus patients, the percentage of T-bet+CD11c+ B cells was elevated and positively correlated with antichromatin antibodies. The findings provide potential therapeutic insight into lupus disease treatment.
