A review on charge transporting molecular materials for use in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic photovoltaic devices (OPVs), and organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) is presented. Devices such as OLEDs, OPVs, and OFETs involve charge transport as a main process in their operation processes, and therefore it requires high-performance charge-transporting materials.

Electroluminescent (EL) properties of a low-molecular-weight liquid crystal (LC), which is composed of an oxadiazole moiety as an electron-transporting unit and an amine moiety as a hole-transporting unit, were investigated. These results indicate that the origin of polarized emission in the LC phase is the anisotropic arrangement of the mesogenic units.

A study was conducted to analyze the effects of the hole-transporting layer on the performance of bilayer vapor-deposited organic light-emitting diodes. The current density voltage and the luminance-voltage properties of the devices were determined and compared against each other. Experimental results indicated that current flow in bilayer devices can be characterized effectively by hole and electron currents.

A starburst molecule 1,3,5-tris[N-(4-diphenylaminophenyl)phenylamino]benzene was used as a hole-transport material and tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum as an emitting material to fabricate a double-layer organic electroluminescent (EL) device. The findings indicate that p-DBA-TDAB acts as a good hole-transport material. Furthermore, the EL device was found to be stable when operating at a temperature of 120 degrees Celsius.

CW and pulsed ESR spetroscopy were used to investigate the polycationic high-spin states of 1,3-bis(diarylamino)benzene and 1,3,5-tris(diarylamino) benzene as prototypical model units for organic ferromagnetic metals. The 2D electron spin transient nutation spectroscopy was found to be a powerful and facile method for spin identification and discrimination between different spin multiplicities in nonoriented systems. An analytical expression for the nutational notion was formulated.

A novel family of electron-transporting amorphous molecular materials with high glass-transition temperatures, BMB-2T and BMB-3T, was created by the reaction of dimesitylboron fluoride with lithiated oligothiophenes in tetrahydrofuran under a nitrogen atmosphere in 40 and 30% yields. These compounds functioned as electron-transporting materials in organic LEDs. They differed in molecular architecture from electron-transporting materials based on heteroaromatic rings such as oxadiazole and triazole.
