As an anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene translocation was identified, the therapy was changed to crizotinib. However, the patient’s blood creatinine level increased, and her physical status worsened. Alectinib also induced exacerbation of renal dysfunction but was controlled by dose reduction of 140 mg twice daily for 2 weeks treatment and 2 weeks break were repeated, and exhibited a partial response for 16 months. Here, we describe the case in which alectinib treatment had beneficial clinical effects on ALK-positive lung adenocarcinoma, which controlled the adverse renal effects by dose reduction and drug breaks. The dose of nedaplatin is determined by body surface area, not by the area under the curve (AUC). The recommended therapeutic dose is 80–100 mg/m2, although the pharmacokinetic profile of nedaplatin is similar to that of carboplatin. In our preliminary study, there was a favorable correlation between AUC and creatinine clearance (CL), suggesting that renal function should be considered when nedaplatin is administered. Ishibashi’s formula, ie, DoseNDP = AUC × CLNDP, where CLNDP = 0.0738 × creatinine clearance + 4.47, would be predictable and useful for estimating the individual dose of nedaplatin. Several Phase II studies have suggested that nedaplatin might be a useful second analog, especially for patients with non-small cell lung cancer, esophageal cancer, uterine cervical cancer, head and neck cancer, or urothelial cancer. Further, nedaplatin was reported to be a useful chemotherapeutic agent with radiosensitizing properties; however, there is no Phase III study of nedaplatin, neither with chemotherapy nor with concurrent chemoradiotherapy, because nedaplatin is not commonly used throughout the world. Reaction cross sections (σR) for 24–38Mg on C targets at the energies of around 240 MeV/nucleon have been measured precisely at RIBF, RIKEN for the purpose of obtaining the crucial information on the changes of nuclear structure in unstable nuclei, especially around the so-called “island of inversion” region. In the island of inversion region, which includes neutron-rich Ne, Na, and Mg isotopes, the vanishing of the N = 20 magic number for neutrons have been discussed along with nuclear deformation. The present result suggest deformation features of Mg isotopes and shows a large cross section of weakly-bound nucleus 37Mg, which could be caused by a neutron halo formation.

The total reaction cross sections of Mg isotopes on a 12C target at 240 MeV/nucleon have been analyzed with a fully microscopic framework, i.e., the double folding model with the density calculated by antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. Our results well reproduce the latest experimental data except 37Mg as a new candidate for a deformed halo nucleus.

Co content (x) dependences of cationic distribution and local fields at the tetrahedral A-site and octahedral B-site nuclei in Co ferrites, CoxFe3−xO4 (x = 0–1.0), were investigated by means of hyperfine interaction techniques. A combined investigation by 57Fe transmission and 57Co emission Mössbauer spectroscopies revealed that about 6% of Co2+ ions occupy the A sites for the sample with Co contents of x = 0 and 1.0. This observation evidently suggests that the site selectivity of Co2+ ions is independent of x for samples prepared on the same heat treatment condition. For hyperfine interaction parameters, obvious x dependence was observed for the B-site Fe nuclei, reflecting variation of the atomic ratio of Fe3+/Fe2+ changing with x, whereas for the A-site Fe nuclei, the parameters hardly change along with x. Contrary to the x-independence for the A-site Fe nuclei, however, it was demonstrated by perturbed angular correlation spectroscopy with the nonmagnetic probe 111Cd(←111In) that the hyperfine field at the A site significantly changes along with x. These contradictory results on the A-site fields verify that the nonmagnetic probe can distinguish a subtle change in the local fields with higher sensitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aging of concrete structures has become a serious problem in Japan, and periodic maintenance is essential for preventing accidents caused by structural aging. In this study, a method for estimating defects in concrete using data from hammering tests on a concrete plate using machine learning was developed. A neural network based on self-attention (SAN) to estimate the three-dimensional position and size of the defects was constructed. Moreover, a dataset was created from the topology of the internal defects and the acceleration response waveform when a concrete plate was struck. The entire plate was represented as a non-dimensional density matrix. The SAN used scalograms of the acceleration responses as the input. Furthermore, two types of data augmentation ('Flip' and 'Rotate') were proposed. The use of both data augmentation techniques achieved the highest accuracy. By setting an appropriate number of rotations, the model was able to estimate all defects in the dataset. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
