A new \textsuperscript{3}He-driven IGISOL production station and mass separator have been designed to produce neutron-deficient low-mass isotopes at the Cyclotron Institute for the TAMUTRAP facility. Using TRIUMF's neutral atom trap, TRINAT, for nuclear $\beta$ decay, we have measured the $\beta$ asymmetry with respect to the initial nuclear spin in $^{37}\mathrm{K}$ to be $A_\beta=-0.5707(13)_\mathrm{syst}(13)_\mathrm{stat}(5)_\mathrm{pol}$, a 0.3% measurement. This is the best relative accuracy of any $\beta$-asymmetry measurement in a nucleus or the neutron, and is in agreement with the standard model prediction $-0.5706(7)$. We compare constraints on physics beyond the standard model with other $\beta$-decay measurements, and improve the value of $V_\mathrm{ud}$ measured in this mirror nucleus by a factor of 4.

The correlations of the decay products following the beta decay of nuclei have a long history of providing a low-energy probe of the fundamental symmetries of our universe. Over half a century ago, the correlation of the electrons following the decay of polarized 60Co demonstrated that parity is not conserved in weak interactions. Today, the same basic idea continues to be applied to search for physics beyond the standard model: make precision measurements of correlation parameters and look for deviations compared to their standard model predictions. The half-life of \tsups{37}K has been measured to be $1.23651(94)~\mathrm{s}$, a value nearly an order of magnitude more precise than the best previously reported. The $\beta^+$ decay of \tsups{37}K occurs mainly via a superallowed branch to the ground-state of its $T=1/2$ mirror, \tsups{37}Ar. This transition has been used recently, together with similar transitions from four other nuclei, as an alternative test of CVC and method for determining $V_{ud}$, but the precision of its $ft$ value was limited by the relatively large half-life uncertainty. Our result corrects that situation. Another motivation for improving the $ft$ value was to determine the standard-model prediction for the $\beta$-decay correlation parameters, which will be compared to those currently being measured by the \trinat{} collaboration at \triumf. The new $ft$ value, $4605(8)~\mathrm{s}$, is now limited in precision by the $97.99(14)\%$ ground-state branching ratio.

The $\frac{1}{2}^+ \rightarrow \frac{1}{2}^+$ superallowed mixed mirror decay of $^{19}$Ne to $^{19}$F is excellently suited for high precision studies of the weak interaction. However, there is some disagreement on the value of the half-life. In a new measurement we have determined this quantity to be $T_{1/2}$ = $17.2832 \pm 0.0051_{(stat)}$ $\pm 0.0066_{(sys)}$ s, which differs from the previous world average by 3 standard deviations. The Texas A&M University Penning Trap facility is an upcoming ion trap that will be used to search for possible scalar currents in T=2 superallowed $\beta$-delayed proton decays, which, if found, would be an indication of physics beyond the standard model. In addition, TAMUTRAP will provide a low-energy, point-like source of ions for various other applications at the Cyclotron Institute. The experiment is centered around a unique, compensated cylindrical Penning trap that employs a specially optimized $\mathrm{length}/\mathrm{radius}$ ratio in the electrode structure that is not used by any other facility. This allows the geometry to exhibit an unprecedented 90 mm free radius, which is larger than in any existing trap, while at the same time remaining a tractable overall length. The trap geometry was designed from first principles to be suitable for a wide range of nuclear physics experiments. In particular, the electrode structure is both "tunable" and "orthogonalized", which allows for a near quadrupole electric field at the trap center, a feature necessary for performing precision mass measurements.

A tandem Penning trap facility has been designed and is under construction at the Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute (TAMU-TRAP). The initial experimental program will be the study of correlation parameters for T=2 superallowed beta-delayed proton emitters. The measurement trap is a unique large-bore optimized 5-electrode cylindrical Penning trap, which features a 90 mm free radius, larger than in any existing Penning trap. This novel geometry allows for full radial containment of decay products of interest. As an important step towards an atomic parity violation experiment in one single trapped Ra$^+$ ion, laser spectroscopy experiments were performed with on-line produced short-lived $^{212,213,214}$Ra$^+$ ions. The isotope shift of the $6\,^2$D$_{3/2}$\,-\,$7\,^2$P$_{1/2}$ and $6\,^2$D$_{3/2}$\,-\,$7\,^2$P$_{3/2}$ transitions and the hyperfine structure constant of the $7\,^2$S$_{1/2}$ and $6\,^2$D$_{3/2}$ states in $^{213}$Ra$^+$ were measured. These values provide a benchmark for the required atomic theory. A lower limit of $232(4)$ ms for the lifetime of the metastable $6\,^2$D$_{5/2}$ state was measured by optical shelving., Comment: 4.2 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables.

Short lived $^{212,213,214}$Ra isotopes have been produced at the TRI$\mu$P facility in inverse kinematics via the fusion-evaporation reaction $^{206}$Pb+$^{12}$C at 8 MeV/u. Isotopes are separated from other reaction products online using the TRI$\mu$P magnetic separator. The energetic radium (Ra) isotopes at the exit of the separator were converted into low energy ions with a thermal ionizer.
